@@bobowon5450 macstudio m2 max is one of the most powerfull machines existing, of course anything runs on ultra settings on it. The crashes disappeared btw after the pacth5 of bg3.
I think Larian's timing was also spot on. They released a feature complete AAA game at a time when most AAA game comes out unfinished and unplayable with MTX. All this while gamers are already sick of modern AAA dev practices, Larian shows how it is done properly.
kinda wish the game spent a little more time in the oven to make act 3 work better tho, i found so many bugs when you break the order of events a little bit lol
Most is an exaggeration. Most single player games that released in 2023 were just as complete and polished as BG3 if not more cause let's not forget that even BG3 had some very noticable problems at its 3rd act.
The CEO of Larian is a real G and we are lucky that this guy exist. As long as he is in charge, Larian will keep feeding us with great, and most of all honest entertainment I can only hope for them that they keep it in the family and that someone from inside take the lead when the question arise, and not some external big company money guy who will try to "restructure" the studio to "improve product quality" and "make the studio more appealing to the market"
As for the name "Divine Divinity" it is because the protagonist says that to the antagonist as sarcasm when they finally meet. "Good to meet you your Divine Divinity!" sarcastically because the antagonist says he's trying to become Godlike.
More like they make a good game, then fall down the same trap the rest of the studios make when they get popular…..don’t get your hopes up. Money kills all creativity in the end
@@user-pc5qj2ix2c What days of eurojank? The US has always made worse and less polished games than European and Japanese studios on a level playing field. The difference is that European studios started out making computer games, which were always more complex and harder to design than the arcade and home console games that took off in the US.
unfortunately they just laid off a ton of employees (including the writer who was behind varris), not to mention all the people who have left during production. it'd be very surprising if it still turns out good @@theobell2002
@@theobell2002 nah, inquisition was good but compared to origins and Bg3, you can see it's a fetch quest galore. Sure, it has great visuals and set pieces with all the dragons and open world but that killed the game. Dragon age was always about quality over quantity. They went for quantity over quality in inquisition.
@@theobell2002 and most if not all the bioware staffs that used work on origins upto inquisition have all left the company. It's bioware in name only now. Won't be long before they get the viceral treatment.
Yes. What they did to Mass Effect was criminal. Mass Effect will always in my heart be my favorite trilogy. Such an amazing universe and story just flushed down the toilet.
I just love that Larian has stayed true to what Larian is. A small passion project studio that wont compromise on their vision. They are unicorns nowadays. Im definitely going to keep supporting them in the future.
I wish there would be another game playing after Divinity II ends. Like... exploring more of Rivellon, as the map and the places where very limited, killing the black ring overall, maybe forming new dragon knights with the dragon stone and the patriarch... and in third person. not isometric like all the others, i really dislike that a lot. real fighting and not round based fighting.
@@deusvult6164 What do you mean you can't use your character and gear? The dlc starts right after the main game ends and you just continue on with the same Character.
agreed. While BG3 is absolutely breathtaking, DoS2 still has better combat (not DnD 5E based) and the completely unique and original world and story was next level, not only for it's time, but even today it far exceeds the scope of mostly all AAA studio releases. Absolute masterpiece of a game. Hoping that the success of BG3 will be able to fund a DoS3 game that overshadows even the scope of BG3
Absolutely agree. BG3 is a masterpiece and deserve all the praise, but DoS2 is divine. Obviously BG3 improves a lot, but combat, story and music is better in DoS2 imo. I like the world more as well. DoS2 has a special place in my heart and I really hope they are working on an even more awesome DoS3.
Dnd has a lot of unnecessary bloat, stuff that maybe isn’t too intrusive with a good DM, but is otherwise clunky and unintuitive. BG3 made me want to replay DoS:1, and it’s better than I remember.
Divine Divinity has a cool mechanics I haven't seen in any review: you can craft items by dragging and dropping one item on top of another. This was mind blowing for me when I discovered that by accident. I love this game, its box is proudly standing next to Planescape Torment on my shelf.
agree, first i wasnt to keen but as ive started playing it back when, man, its great, they need to make something similar DOSandDOS2 arent bad, or even BG3 (as ive heard) but id like a game like Divinity 2 from them again and now even more so have the man power to make something really amazing
Would be nice if they finished the story, cause didn't the main bad guy escape at the end? Heard rumors he appeared in another game where he could be killed finally, but still, not the same. Divinity II and the expansion was amazing, sure hope they make another one and take a break from the tactical games for awhile.
@@everx7Dude the Divinity Ego Draconis series is one of my all time favorite series, Divinity II being my favorite! Dos and Dos 2 are amazing games in there own respect, but I miss the old Larian style of games :(
@@pawsomelabrastead9244no, he did not. The last time we see him, is when He ressurects his love. Then they dissapear from the Divinity timeline. Always found it odd, that he wasnt in original sin 2. Lucian the dvine was, so it would have made sense to conclude the story. And yes I really would like to have a second Divinity Action Rpg
Corrections: the publisher at the time forced Larian to use the reGarded name Divine divinity against Larian's will. And Divinity fallen heroes was outsourced to another studio not made by Larian.
I bought the first Divine Divinity game a very long time ago thinking it was a poor man's rpg, boy was I wrong. Very impressed by how good it was and how much thought went into it.
I loved Divinity 2. To me it was as memorable and outstanding as Gothic 1 & 2. I actually liked the dragon form stuff. It reminded me of Drakan, another gem of a game that never god a sequel, unfortunately.
@@xormak3935 I think he meant nothing within the last 20 years, ancients gate was a sequel sure, but from the same era as the original, there has been nothing since 2002.
@@xormak3935 I agree. Developers seem to forget that an overwhelming proportion of us enjoyed the way games used to be, and not this modern new wave of shortcuts, streamlining and garbage gameplay loops. They try to appeal to the masses with whatever is 'hot' right now but fail to realise if they made games like these used to, or sequels to games that were amazing, they would cash in even more, from the hardcore fans that crave these games to those who grew up on the predecessors and just because we liked them doesn't mean the newer generations wont either. I've been so disappointed with so many games within the last 5-10 years.. so many let downs and overhypes and streamlined bullshit, they really don't make them like they used to.. unless you're Larian or GGG, taking the genre's we love and pushing them to the next level, making them deeper and giving them a facelift, this is what gaming needs, if it aint broke, don't fix it just improve on it!
In 2004 Larian also released a very ambitious kids game called "Ketnet Kick". I think it was funded by the state broadcast (VRT), who owned the kids channel "KetNet". You where able to customize your own kid character and could play a lot of mini games and do a lot of platforming. You where able to create art and send it to the channel. If you where very lucky you could see your own art on tv.
Wait... I own that game and I never knew it. I just checked and yeah I can see their company name on the back of the box. That's actually really interesting!
@hyvenia6157 As I remember after Beyond Divinity failure, Sven had two options. Go full under publisher by selling rights and studio, or close the studio. He had third option in which he started localize games and make games for kids.
Larian made my dream back in 2009, after finishing ego draconis i (at the time 7 years old) wanted more, and so had a dream of becoming a game designer, and i followed that path ever since. Im proud of the studio that got me into gaming, and sometimes i get tears of joy when i see the drama on the onternet surrounding BG3 specifically because everyone knows its good and not many, if any studios have the freedom to make such a thing. Aside from that, the reason they went independant is kinda forshadowed in the video "hatching of a dragon" a documentary about ego draconis, where i think it was raze who had made many more features, maps and missions for the game (which i managed to find in the files, but cant implement due to lack of engine for moding), and their publisher had them release the game much earlier, so they had to scrap most of it, which made raze almost cry, and furthermore, a lot of features had to be scrapped to fit the xbox console at the time, which wad just crap compared to pc, so even more had to be scrapped. Its sad, we were supposed to have elves and those lizards from original sin 2 and dragon commander, but it was all scrapped because of the publisher. Im glad they are independant now.
That story checks out, given that they quickly released flames of vengeance which is an alternate version of ego draconis that adds a DLC thats almost an extra game by itself. The ending of base ego draconis was also really random, most people hated it at the time, and then we got a proper ending with the DLc.
@@skillo6399 yeah, i get that a lot of people didnt like the ending but i loved it, as i was really young and it told me that the good does not always win. I loved it actually, but from what i remember it was supposed to be waaaay different, even the story itself was changed, you can find arhus stats and models in files (altho not finished, i couldnt find textures and animations and model is kinda bad), but arhu was supposed to show up, lizards were planned and i think i saw screenshots of their town map that devs released, and then there were random stuff like aleroth outskirts and whatnot. If they got the propper time and if they didnt have to deliver it to xbox as well i think it would have easily been the goty for 2009. But no use crying over spilled milk, we can only hope we get another masterpiece in the divinity series, im just trying out divine divinity (their first game) and i absolutely love it, cant wait to see where they take the story.
@@stojadin3284 Divine divinity is an awesome game, i'm sure you will love it! For me its a perfect mix between isometric diablo style gameplay but good writing and quests ^_^
@@skillo6399 yeah, im just finishing it now with 28 hours on the clock, maybe ill do another playthrough with a mage, so far i love it. Is there a mod for more hot keys, thats my only real problem, only one ability slot is kind of restricting.
Same it also was my first turn based game. I always thought i turn based combat wasnt my cup of tea. But BG3 made me fall i love with it. I played DOS 2 right after finishing BG3. Atm i'm playing Solasta, another CRPG with D&D mechanics. I really recommend it, even if it is from a way smaller studio. After that i consider playing DOS 1.
I like Divinity: Original Sin 2 more than I like Baldur's Gate 3. Having played DOS2 and afterward hearing Larian is making BG3, I knew it's going to be a banger. Now, with all the funds they received from BG3, I sincerely hope their next game is DOS3 - and, if that really is the case, I feel it's going to blow everything else out of water even harder than BG3 did.
100% People who love BG3 clearly never played DoS2. It's like how people who love D&D 5e haven't played many other TTRPGs. D&D 5e's rules suck in tabletop and they're even worse in a videogame. DoS2 has a better action system, spell system, level and class system, feat/trait system, movement system, damage type system, and so-on. They don't even fulfill the idea of having a decent videogame version of D&D 5e by having a very mediocre character creator which is basically a graphically improved version of DoS2, but with less interesting races. The graphics are pretty shit too for a game with a 100 million dollar budget too.
Nah man, idk. I played DOS2 and fucking loved it but we have to admit that Baldur's Gate 3 is awesome and even better than DOS2. This doesnt take away the pros in Divinity, just shows that Larian has improved their team and production with more funding and time. And when talking about combat, altough the combination of different elements in DOS2 is really fun, sometimes it actually makes the battleground a real mess lmao I think both games should be aprecciated and comparing them makes no sense, cause the difference is just the system they are based
@@lucasanatolio5858 How much is Larian paying you to say this? I don't see how having environmental hazards build up and interacting with each other is a bad thing.
@@youcantbeatk7006 Paying anything lol Just what I think. See, environmental interaction isnt bad, its just that sometimes in DOS2 it just gets kinda tiring becausa the whole battlefield turns a firefloor. I still think DOS2 is a great game and one of my favorites of all time
This is EXACTLY the video I was looking for! after loving Baldurs gate 3 I wanted a video that quickly went over all the other games Larian has made so I can see their background, thank you for making this
It really is! I was obsessed with it when I was 10. I got it as a freebie from a PC Gamer magazine and it came with like 6 different CD roms. I still have it ❤
The background music that is played during the "Beyond Divinity" part is called Broken Valley Wakes. It's my favorite track from Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, which is a great game and a hidden gem.
As a massive lover of Larian work for the last, well whenever Divinity II came out, it's really made me feel great seeing them finally get the real attention and respect they deserve. Very few companies feel like they truly love the games they make like Larian does. They really do feel like an old school company before the gaming world got massively corporatized.
I always love it when ppl talk about Larian's humble beginning. Their journey and how they almost went bankrupt making Dos1 is such an inspiring story. --- On the note about DnD dice roll: The thing about dice rolling is that, nothing is ever set in stone. There's no guaranteed success (rolling a 1 is an automatic fail) and there's no guaranteed failure (rolling a 20 automatically succeeds) either. This means that you'll run into some unexpected moments, and just like in real life, sometimes there are certain things that are simply out of your control and you'd be forced to adapt. The dice rolling in DnD simulated that kind of adaptive game plan. Understandably, this is not for everything and some may find it frustrating and resort to save scum, but there are a lot of ways to influence dice roll probability in your favour. it ultimately comes down to the knowledge of the game's system, knowing what bonuses can work in what situation and how to stack the bonuses to increase your chance of success is a huge part of the game. Larian even included the whole inspiration system for rerolling without having to resort to save scum. Compare this to, say Dos2's dialogue check system, there's a lot more uncertainty, and that's what keeps ppl guessing. Whereas in Dos2, if you have a very high persuasion skill for example, then you know you'll succeed in dialogue checks. It becomes predictable, especially on multiple playthroughs and thus, there is no room for tension. But in BG3, you can never be sure, so it makes important moments very tense, and has the potential of seeing alternative outcomes if you got super lucky/unlucky. Ultimately it wouldn't be for everyone but imo, there's a huge benefit to DnD's dice rolling system that I'm glad to see something different after having personally sunk more than 500 hours into Dos2.
"There's no guaranteed success (rolling a 1 is an automatic fail) and there's no guaranteed failure (rolling a 20 automatically succeeds) either." Not on skill checks, though. That is the one change to the D&D rules that I'm not down with. Some checks you simply can't fail in D&D if you are proficient enough, and others you simply can't make.
Finally I have a good video I can show people to show them history of Larian games! Been a fan of the studio for a long time and Swen is a person I am looking up to - an example of person who never gave up in face of difficulty!
I would love to see Larian take another shot at a game like Divine Divinity. I would love to see more ARPGs that involve more than just killing everything on screen as fast as possible and filling up your inventory with gear. An ARPG that includes the storytelling and player expression of a DOS2 or BG3, especially with the immersive sim-esque interactions they've been perfecting over the years, could be incredible.
The soundtrack of divinity 2 ego draconis is one of the best ever made for a game. I love this game to this day. It’s a big part of my childhood nostalgia. I hope Larian will make another third person rpg in the future.
BG3 was always going to be one of this years big games purely from the nostalgia of the original and larian seem to have pulled out the stops for it and found some that bioware have probably forgotten about
Bioware have not forgotten. They sold themselves to an all controlling publisher. Their downfall was foreseeable from the start when they did that. So by the time Dragon Age 2 was in production, they had been shackled so hard, that all what made them great before was being surpressed.
One thing that I've taken away from this video is that Larian seems to understand what works well in their past games, and carries them forward, while improving or changing other parts. It shows that they're paying attention to the community response to their games. That's surprisingly rare given that the studios behind some larger IPs in the industry don't seem to understand *why* people like their past games, leading them to ditch core defining features and/or carrying forward stuff that people didn't like. I think Bethesda is the best example of this, with Starfield and Fallout 76, it's like the didn't realize they were ripping the core gameplay loop of Fallout/TES out of their most recent games.
@@altoid3453 I've been playing it for a month now and have had like 3 crashes thus far. Am on pc with it 3470, 8gb ram, gtx 960 4gb. What's your system?

Larian Devs " But we already have Divine Divinity " Sven " I wonder what's diviner than divine divinity? " Larian Devs " How about Divinest Divine Divinity " Sven " I LOVE IT!"
Divine Divinity's name had been changed because the publisher insisted so, Larian was not happy with it but had to comply. Btw I played Divine Divinity earlier this year and I was really surprised how much fun lies in that old and under the radar game. I started a second playthrough right after finishing it, which took me about 60hrs IIRC.
I hope so hard for another Ego Draconis. Just am on another playthrough! I play almost every AAA but this is the only game i come back to again and again!
Ego Draconis is the first game I ever bought on Steam and no one I've ever talked to played it. I felt crazy for so many years talking to people about this amazing rpg where you could turn into a dragon and had a badass tower for yourself and everyone was like "divinity? nah m8 original sin is not like that"
Oh man, I spent so many hours exploring every corner of Divine Divinity. It was pretty awesome, and along with the Gothic series, one of the game that marked my gaming during childhood. Even got it last year on Steam hehe
Btw in Divine Divinity, there's a part where you have to move a bed to access something, well, you can drag that bed in your inventory and rest whenever you want
I'm pretty sure you can do the same in that first prototype I mentioned in the beginning. Those point & click adventure type mechanics are really cool to see, in an isometric aRPG.
I think you're being overly harsh on skunk catapulters. I've been catapulting skunks for 86 years and it has been the most fulfilling hobby that I could imagine.
I remember playing Beyond Divinity off of a disk included in one of my gaming magazines. I remember when Ego Draconis came out. And I remember Original Sin 1 and 2, obviously. It's awesome to see how far the studio has come over the years.
larian are gamers that make games for gamers, their CEO is literaly the embodiment for that concept. Truly gonna miss swen when he's not here anymore, can see the company going the same trajectory volition did after their main guy died 😥
I remember how in awe I was back in the ego draconis times, loved that game on release, played it multiple times over the years. It's been a wild ride, and it's so crazy to see how far they've come. Played all of their rpgs since Ego Draconis, and BG3 feels like a climax of their rpg path.
I have yet to find another traversal mechanic as cool as jumping from a 100 m cliff and transforming into a f**g dragon mid-air, even if the dragon combat wasn't that great afterwards
Divinity 2 ego draconis is such a gem im currently playing everything is so fun in that game it has adorable enviroment people are so nice to you and you are FREAKING DRAGON
6:45 This exact thing happens again in Divinity 2: Ergo Draconis, when you talk to a friendly skeleton about the absurdity of being able to talk and breath without flesh and lungs!
And it repeats again in DOS2, you can dig up a skeleton in a graveyard, and if you're playing as an undead character - you can have a pretty similar conversation there as well. Seems like a running gag for Larian.
Looking back at DOS1 & 2, it's crazy to think that BG3 wasn't just some crazy perfect storm: Larian have been making games like this for a while, it's just that only now people are starting to notice
original sin 2 had a fly ability that did pretty much the same thing as jumping in BG3 they also had some nifty teleport abilities by using the pyramid things so you could explore a lot more fluidly than in bg3.
well BG3 actually lets you properly jump which is way more valuable in exploring while also having teleportation. more importantly BG3 is alot better designed exploring areas with lots of differences in elevation, example being baldurs gate itself letting you explore in ways that are impossible in Arx
@@joedatius I'd hope so right? If the did BG3 and made it worse than an older game that would be sad. I think fly does pretty much everything jump does but better though and honestly I think the combat and spells in Divinity 2 just work better together. But yes there are more areas and it's a lot more flushed out in BG3
You forgot to mention that DoS2 first introduced 4 player coop which I've never seen as realized before in such a large story driven rpg, which make the games come closest to a virtual shared Tabletop experience in my opinion.
I just wish that Swen the CEO of Larian and his wife maintain the majority owner of the shares of Larian Studio, For anyone who doesn't know, 70% of the shares are from Swen and his wife, 30% are from Tencent, yup the Tencent who like in previous month acquired the majority shares of Techland, and after that acquisition, Techland introduce a Microtransaction of Dying Light 2.
DOS 1/2 needs greater recognition. They are masterpieces on their own rights. I remember playing DOS1 because it was on sale on steam and I was not really serious about it, just want to try some indie game for fun. But i was flabbergasted! I didn’t expect such level of quality from an unknown studio back then! So DOS1 will always hold a special place for me ❤
Divine Divinity was the first game i ever played. I was 9, had no idea what to do, but i remember very clearly spamming the double item glitch for almost infinite potions (you could just spam them for unlimited health) and just running around until i find someone to talk to, or to fight.
I got my Original Sin 1 platinum trophy yesterday and I'll be revisiting the sequel with a friend who's a newcomer to the series soon, so it's safe to say I have Larian on the brain at the moment. Realistically I won't be getting around to Baldur's Gate 3 any time soon, so maybe I should play Divinity 2 and Dragon Commander in the meantime to complete my Divinity experience.
You know, the thing about the dice roll, it's really just making the RNG that's in most games visible. Any game that has chance of failure especially for dialogue options technically speaking has that same mechanic just not a visible animated dice roll
Divinity 2 was first Larian game I played. I remember I stubled upon it by complete accident, and I had no idea what to expect. Then for some reason game really sucked me in. As you said, their games have this feel of being made by someone who want fun game, and not just another product. Quirky dialogues and characters, plot twists - it's all in Divinity series.
Words can't express how happy I am to see Larian getting the attention and respect they deserve. Played Original Sin 2 years back and it quickly became my favorite CRPG of all time. I always thought Larian would just be a niche developer who put out really good under the radar RPGs. Even after finding out they were doing Baldur's Gate 3 I had no clue it would get as big as it did. Now that they're done with D&D and going back to their original IPs I'm hoping we'll get an Original Sin 3 with BG3's budget and quality. Can't wait to see what the future holds for these guys, they may actually be my favorite developers right now (it's a close race with Supergiant)
the really fun thing is, i got recommended Beyond Divinity before any of the other games, and I got SO invested in the premise that I couldn't care a crumb about how bad the gameplay was haha. I found the voice acting very charming and the back and forth banter with the Death Knight funny, it was really dragging me deep in immersion wise, even if it was silly. I think the only reason why I dropped it back in the day was because I have massive ADHD, and saw that Larian released a brand new game in the same universe (that would be Divinity: Original Sin 2) and the moment i booted that one up, i was immediately neck deep in it and I promptly forgot about everything else in my life for several months. I still need to finish Beyond Divinity. maybe once i'm done with BG3, I'll find it in myself to go back a lil. I also need to finish Ego Draconis, that also sits unfinished on my shelf. Great video, thank you for talking about these games! Larian has been very close to my heart for a good few years now, and I am beyond extatic that they're getting the attention they deserve!
Divinity II Ego Draconis is one of the few games I completed twice or more. The tower, the story, the soundtrack, the humor, the dragon form and the feeling of becoming more and more powerful made a great game. Sure it felt a bit cheap and not that refined gameplay wise but all the above made it great. I wish they come back to ARPG, I’m not fond of cRPG
I fell in love with Larian Studios when I first tried Divinity Original Sin 2, the game blew me away and gripped me from start to finish. I was already a fan of DnD but it was the fact it was Larien Studios that got me excited for Baldur's Gate 3. They are such a passionate team dedicated to making the best CRPGs they possibly can and I'm so happy they are getting the global recognition and praise that they deserve. Here's to hoping their next game is even more exciting!
I played divinity 2 ego draconisnso much as a kid. I never got into any other rpg for a long time but that one somehow stuck the landing and managed to keep me interested
Larian nailed it where most if not all modern RPG's fail ... and that's the companion characters.. It's not just having companion characters alone but fleshing out their backstory's through side quests ..... It really hooks you into a game and the anticipation to see how their story's end makes the drive to the ending that much more satisfying ... and with how other studios are reacting to BG3 shows they are no where close to incorporating this winning formula ... (BG3 does have its flaws ... especially trying to make a homoerotic experience with every character )
When BG3 was announced, some of my friends were ecstatic to hear the name of the developer, meanwhile I was like "who? eh, I don't care". And then I played Divinity Original Sin 2 with my friend and fell in love with it, and bought BG3 the first chance that I got (it was still in early access). One of the best things that ever happened to me!
Sorry for the late reaction, but I fully agree Larian Studio's games are really enjoyable. The only game I could not get "into" was Dragon Commander. I have played Divinity II; Ego Draconis several times before Divinity Original Sin was released, and it was at that time one of my favorite games. I have played all the Divinity games, and completely agree with your analysis. It's even more weird if you consider I am mainly a big JRPG fan. Especially the games from the Nihom Falcom "stable" are amongst my most loved games (Ys series and Trails series). Nevertheless Larian is one of those developers that managed to carve out that special place that made me a true lover of their games.
awesome vid, very well said. BG3 was my first larian studios game and is phenomenal. I recently bought DOS2 based on soo many overwhelmingly good reviews and im so glad i did. Both games have their give and takes and yet, both are masterpieces in their own right. For a guy whose always disliked turnbased games, Larian makes theirs truly worth playing.
Divine Divinity is my fav game of all time. While everyone was playing Diablo, I was playing Divine Divinity at that time. The atmosphere in the game is amazing, I dont know why, and can't describe it how, but it just resonates with me. And majority of that is the awesome work of Kirill Pokrovsky (R.I.P.). Its because of this game and Kirill, I got into game development.
I remember Divinity 2 big issue was leveling. Since enemies didn’t respawn you had to search around and kill every single enemy on the map just to level up. If you didn’t you’d be severely outmatched moving on in the game.
I played DoS2 to prepare for BG3 and so glad I did! Would like to see DoS3 with BG3’s masterful cinematic presentation (also Isometric and 3rd person camera)
one of my favorite games of all time is Divinity 2 Ego Draconis/Dragon Knigh Saga/Developers cut its just so good, so nostalgic to me, i really wish Larian makes another 3rd person, they did soooo good w ego draconis im craving for another lmao
I played BG3 first and then went back and played their older titles because I loved BG3 so much. Now I'm in love with the Divinity series. I hope their next game is a sequel to it! Imagine the amazing Red Prince in full next gen glory!
Even on low graphics, BG3 looks amazing. The only settings I have higher are V-sync (triple buffer, screen sync) and anti-aliasing (fixed hard edges). Everything else is on low or off, and it still looks breathtaking. The light looks like the ray-tracing light from those vids on youtube
I remember I just couldn't get into Baldur's Gate. I don't really get on with real time with pause RPG games like that. Then I remember my friend sending me the trailer for BG3 and I saw Larian was making it and I was optimistic because I hadn't long finished Divinity: Original Sin and absolutely loved it. I still haven't finished DOS2 and I have some minor quibbles with it but I do really like it. Likewise I haven't finished BG3 yet but I love that game as well. I think Larian's timing was also spot on. They released a feature complete AAA game at a time when most AAA game comes out unfinished and unplayable with MTX. All this while gamers are already sick of modern AAA dev practices, Larian shows how it is done properly.

Most is an exaggeration. Most single player games that released in 2023 were just as complete and polished as BG3 if not more cause let's not forget that even BG3 had some very noticable problems at its 3rd act.
Most first party Sony (and Nintendo if you’re into that sort of things) games are complete and have no MTX

I absolutely loved Divinity II (Developer's Cut). I loved just the 'fuck it you can turn into a dragon almost anywhere' aspect

DoS2 is my absolute favorite game of all time, even after playing through the masterpiece that is Bg3. I'm hoping DoS3 is their next project
agreed. While BG3 is absolutely breathtaking, DoS2 still has better combat (not DnD 5E based) and the completely unique and original world and story was next level, not only for it's time, but even today it far exceeds the scope of mostly all AAA studio releases. Absolute masterpiece of a game. Hoping that the success of BG3 will be able to fund a DoS3 game that overshadows even the scope of BG3
my favourite theme song is the main DoS2 main theme. could sit in the menu for hours xD

Interesting, I didn't know about that game.
You must play Divinity 2 Original Sin... Its a fantastic CRPG. ❤
And when talking about combat, altough the combination of different elements in DOS2 is really fun, sometimes it actually makes the battleground a real mess lmao
I think both games should be aprecciated and comparing them makes no sense, cause the difference is just the system they are based

---
On the note about DnD dice roll:
The thing about dice rolling is that, nothing is ever set in stone.
"There's no guaranteed success (rolling a 1 is an automatic fail) and there's no guaranteed failure (rolling a 20 automatically succeeds) either."
Not on skill checks, though.
BG3 was always going to be one of this years big games purely from the nostalgia of the original and larian seem to have pulled out the stops for it and found some that bioware have probably forgotten about
Exactly, It'z a big hit !!
Divinity 2 was so ahead of its time.
That's what you get when you've people in charge that actually give a fuck about the genre

Ego Draconis' OST was a nostalgia hammer hit right into my brain.
what do you mean original sin 2 is "close" to a masterpiece

but yeah larian is finally getting recognition they deserve
original sin 2 had a fly ability that did pretty much the same thing as jumping in BG3 they also had some nifty teleport abilities by using the pyramid things so you could explore a lot more fluidly than in bg3.
well BG3 actually lets you properly jump which is way more valuable in exploring while also having teleportation. more importantly BG3 is alot better designed exploring areas with lots of differences in elevation, example being baldurs gate itself letting you explore in ways that are impossible in Arx
@@joedatius I'd hope so right? If the did BG3 and made it worse than an older game that would be sad. Realistically I won't be getting around to Baldur's Gate 3 any time soon, so maybe I should play Divinity 2 and Dragon Commander in the meantime to complete my Divinity experience.
Divinity OS2 is one of the best games buddy. You are going to have one of the best gaming experience in your life. Mark my words… 🤟💪🎉 enjoy buddy
You know, the thing about the dice roll, it's really just making the RNG that's in most games visible. Any game that has chance of failure especially for dialogue options technically speaking has that same mechanic just not a visible animated dice roll
Ego Draconis was awesome. And that ending is just...
You gotta play the rest of it. You get out of the hall of echos and deal with the person who put you there.
The one that you play as a dragon was pretty amazing.
the really fun thing is, i got recommended Beyond Divinity before any of the other games, and I got SO invested in the premise that I couldn't care a crumb about how bad the gameplay was haha.
D2 Dragon Knight Saga was my entry point in Larian and it was a cracking game that fed straight into my fantasies
9:15 this damn axe XD. I never used it because of those crazy requirements haha
I loved divinity 2 : ego draconis one of my favorite games ❤️
I played divinity 2 ego draconisnso much as a kid. I never got into any other rpg for a long time but that one somehow stuck the landing and managed to keep me interested
thanks for making this video. it was interesting to see the progression of each larian game!
Love your videos!
I was looking for a good video to listen to while cleaning and this came out just at the right time ❤
When BG3 was announced, some of my friends were ecstatic to hear the name of the developer, meanwhile I was like "who? eh, I don't care". And then I played Divinity Original Sin 2 with my friend and fell in love with it, and bought BG3 the first chance that I got (it was still in early access). One of the best things that ever happened to me!
You are right. Baldur isnt AAA. Its fucking AAAA.
Larian truly deserves it. They are a great studio who listens to their players and doesn't compromises on features
OH damn I remember playing divinity 2 ego draconis, that was so fun as a kid
awesome vid, very well said.
Two skeletons remind me of a cemetery ghost philosopher inf DOS2
The one reason why i love Divinity over BG 3 is the mixing of elements to create new effects Really missing that big time
it be nice once Larian hits AAA they make their own RPG books, so much can be done with that universe.
It blew my mind the first time I fused 2 scrolls to make a hybrid skill. Blood Rain was so OP
in ego draconis, i was so pumped when the character morphs into a dragon, the music was sick
I played DoS2 to prepare for BG3 and so glad I did! Would like to see DoS3 with BG3’s masterful cinematic presentation (also Isometric and 3rd person camera)
one of my favorite games of all time is Divinity 2 Ego Draconis/Dragon Knigh Saga/Developers cut
its just so good, so nostalgic to me, i really wish Larian makes another 3rd person, they did soooo good w ego draconis im craving for another lmao
I know larian doesnt want do to D&D anymore because it's been awkward, but PLEASE DO PLANESCAPE TORMENT OR ICEWIND DALE
38:14 the bard-specific dialogue choice is awesome here, and avoids combat. Its the little things like that which made me fall in love with BG3
I just really hope Larian stay in touch with themselves and don't lose their way
Started playing Larian games at Divinity 2, hope they keep doing what they do best for a long time.
Proud to be a patreon of this channel :)
Thank you for this video. Skipped over most of it (sorry), but I like your very pragmatic assessment of the games, and now I know which ones I missed out one (OGS1/2) and which ones not.
Larian is the best example of people that I am ultra glad to have found success
I've been a fan for almost a decade with Original Sin and on one hand, am surprised by how they found success with such a niche genre (CRPGs are so small relative to shooters or action games) and on the other, surprised that it took the world this long to recognize their greatness
Larian games are a bit clunky but the storytelling is fantastic. The maturity is more than just "she has big tits lol"
