This is really great info. As for needing to zoom way in to eliminate the black margins... it could be planned for ahead of time. If the specific clip was recorded from a farther away, it would build in extra room to zoom in during post. Extra "real estate" is a great way of putting it. Thanks for the tutorial! ❤
Wow! How did I miss this? Anyways, here I am now :) Glad to finally see a new full length Ben Espanto Shotcut tutorial. It's been a while ;-) And that's an awesome one! VERY well explained. That filter isn't easy to figure out without instructions. So your video will help a LOT of people, I'm sure. Good job Ben.
Finally! I have been doing that manually for over a year! I record presentations and sometimes speakers will walk around a bit instead of standing at a podium. So I track their face and zoom in so I don't have the black lines. This is so awesome!
@@BenEspanto No worries, I did subscribe to your channel while I was writing my first comment above with all notifications on ☺ Please have an absolute fantastic day.
great, btw do u know how to move multiple clips at once. for example when ur almost finished with ur video and want to add something in the middle and u have to create space for it. Thx ; )
just subscribed, thanks. i need this feature to film motorbikes on racetracks. i think it is very useful to focus the bike, then crop the video later from 16:9 to 9:16 for reels. with a tele and the fast bikes its almost impossible to shoot 9:16 right away. is it possible to lock the motion tracker vertically? because if i follow the bike and it is sometimes a bit higher or lower in the frame it doesnt matter. it just should not leave the frame left or right…i hope you get what in mean 😄
Ive already watched this video a couple weeks ago, now editing another video and using this effect, and it worked just fine for my last video. I was following everything step by step again since i didnt remember everything from last time, then when it got to the part where you go to the keyframes and see the screen move around showing black borders, it doesnt do that for me. Im not sure what went wrong this time
Just awesome! Yeah, I saw it on dance videos on Tiktok and TH-cam. I'm doing shorts from my Twitch-Streams and some times I run out of the frame. I'm checking now, if I can have a nice video with the frame following me 😏
@@BenEspanto Hi, I think your content is really great, interesting and could be beneficial for me. But I'm a musician. I just do as less as I need to make good videos. My focus is on music. I wish you all the best with your channel 🙏
prob too late for some help since this was a year ago but i followed exactly what you did but the keyframes refuse to show up, shotcut doesnt freese or anything and the effect didnt apply. what do i do about this?
@@BenEspanto I eventually figured it out, apparently all I had to do is apply the tracking and then save and reload the app. I think maybe the reload is what fixed it but I can't be too certain
Thanks for the tutorial! I tried using it with a 45 min long video (keeping a speaker centered), but loading the keyframes from the motion tracker never completed. Do you have an idea how to resolve that? I had similar problems in Kdenlive, where I could resolve it by enlarging the keyframe spacing of the motion tracking to bring down the amount of keyframes to about 3000, which worked with long delays where the app was blocked. In Shotcut I didn't see any controls for fine-tuning the motion tracking, do you happen to have an idea how to resolve this?
@@BenEspanto I've tried dissolving out text by placing it on a transparent foreground layer. It leaves black where the text is until its gone... How do I dissolve out text??? SO MANY TEXT QUESTIONS 🤷♂️🥵

when i select "load keyframes from motion tracker", no keyframes are loaded into the filter and the clip will not track. the green preview is accurate, but the size filter is not. the gray stopwatch beside the position settings also does not turn blue to indicate that keyframes are being used for the filter
i have a problem: when i click on load keyframes from motion tracker i can not click on the name of my motion tracker i analyzed before. There is no Choice option... please help me
Im trying to do this right now but whenever I try to load in my saved motion. It just shows a blank space where the save should be. I already tried restarting and ive got like 5 saves but they still wont show.
The project im working on has a LOT of edits, probably more than 100 modifications to the original footage but they're just simply cuts. No added effects or anything fancy. Im just cutting out blank space from the footage. Im guessing its not working because it cant send enough resources.
this comment bugs me - at what point are things not working? Are options not available? Are buttons failing to do anything when clicked? Are results not the same as expected? If you don't give details, we can safely assume you're a child trying to poison the guy's TH-cam traffic because software is too hard for you.
Motion tracker is great, but the lack of panning available makes it useless :( I wish it would retain it's tracking capabilities, but when rendering, act like VD's Deshaker (which, as name says, supports random shakes, not object tracking, like in your case) - with configurable, adaptive zoom, using close frames to fill in blanks. I tried the latter, but again, why make something easy, when it can be hard, so you can't make easily these borders transparent, so copying original video and blurring it slightly to use as background won't work. You can make borders #f0f and then chroma key it, but the effects are awful.

45 mins is a long time for Shotcut to process. Try cutting the clips

You have to place the text on the top layer another way using Open Other, then drag into the timeline. Once there add the opacity filter
