Homeowner Returns From Hospital To Find Her TALL GRASS Mowed

- In this video, I will be showing you some tall grass mowing. This lawn was in desperate need of some mowing and edging, and so while the homeowner was in the hospital, I mowed her tall grass before she returned!
This client's tall grass was soaking wet upon arrival. It also didn't benefit us that it had rained the night before, and also her sprinklers came on this morning as well. I knew this overgrown lawn was going to be a challenge to put back into shape. My lawn mowing skills would definitely be put to the test!
Instead of writing a long description like I usually do, I will keep it short and sweet. To follow along during this tall grass mowing video, I have added chapters to simplify what I am doing in each section. That way, fewer questions will be asked and less typing will be done by me.

That is the way tall grass should be handled, and the clean up was the only way to go. That many grass clippings if left would have killed the grass over time.Super job.

What disgusts me is her neighbors knew, KNEW, this woman was in the hospital. And you can't tell me that they couldn't have at the very least mowed her front lawn. My honest opinion, you use the push mowers for cutting the outline of property and the house three times for the easy turn around then cut from left to right, then edge and use the blower. Using a chopper on wet grass is crazy unless you do the work of recutting it, he did a good job.
I usually cut my own grass, but after a week in the hospital, I found the yard man who takes care of the other houses had cut mine for free. It was a couple of months before I could cut mine again, but a friend cut it for me until winter. I let both of them know how much I appreciated it.
You do nice work. I was in the lawn business for 25 years and I can appreciate how tough that job was. You really went above and beyond.

He does it the hard way though. If he mowed a couple passes, in from the edges of the yard with his lawnmower first and then edged and trimmed with his string trimmer, he would save a lot of time cleaning up and save wear and tear on his edger and string trimmer.
At least when he got on the lawnmower, he didn’t blow grass onto the sidewalk, or into the street like a lot of morons do. If you mow the edges first, then trim, then blow the grass on the sidewalk and street into the area you haven’t mowed yet, then complete your mowing, you then only have to blow once.
30:57 use a tarp and rake the grass onto the tarp. Again, easier, faster, and you can get a lot more on the tarp, than you can in the trash can. What I used to do with tall grass is, I would take about three passes down the middle of an area and if necessary, mow the three strips a second time, then blow all grass around it, into that initial three pass area. Then, to avoid raking or blowing the grass, if you have a bag for your lawnmower, put it on and go down that three-pass area, collecting all the clippings. Empty the clippings onto your tarp and keep going until they’re all collected. Again, it’s smarter, you don’t have to mow over and over and over in area, trying to chop up the grass. You’ll be done a hell of a lot faster.
You can do this with leaves, too, in the fall. I see so many lawn care companies blowing leaves from one end of the yard to another, it drives me crazy. Just chop them with the lawnmower, collect them in a bag and be done with it, FAST! Work smart, not hard.
The edging alone made a big difference. It's also nice to see someone remove the grass. Great Job!

Hi. We bought a house 2 years ago with a canal in our back yard. Yesterday when I was getting out of my car I noticed snake #18 on my driveqay. My husband keeps our grass cut low because I am terried of snakes. Please keep cutting for anybody that you see who needs their grass cut and needs help. I am 67 years old. I am also disabled and I appreciate him as the people you help out do appreciate you too. Keep up the good work!!

Good job on going the extra mile with everything. From prep, cut, to post cut clean up, you wouldn't see half of the lawn guys tackle such a job. He does get some ad revenue, but the client gets free help. His tools take wear and tear, use gas, and his time, so some ad revenue to keep him going helps.

I've seen most of the USA, Europe & other foreign countries for over 30 years & as I was checking out these homes, they remind me of military housing. My Dad was a Vietnam veteran as well as my spouse in the Air Force. Both sides of our family have served in all branches of the military. Five generations of military. The world would be a lot nicer place if it were filled with people like you. Always enjoy watching a professional work. It is a good way to learn useful knowledge.
I understand the reason for parking on the wrong side of the street but it does open you to some serious liability if a careless person runs into you pickup or trailer.
Also, while I am not a professional, I have found that running the lawnmower as close to the house and fence as possible first removes most of the tall grass and makes edging a lot easier with a string trimmer. It also gives you a height to work from when you taper the grass down to the foundation or fence which makes it look a lot nicer, in my opinion.
Also, I knew a guy who bought a kit that allowed him to put two blades on his mowers. It was harder to get them moving but it was also harder to bog them down or stop the mower from running. It also created a lot more air flow which helped raise the grass up when it was wet or taller than ideal and blow it out the discharge chute a lot better.

Thanks for sharing this video. I found it quite educational. I have a 27 year old lawn tractor with a 44” 3-blade deck. At this point I can no longer find repair parts and my mower repair technician only rolls his eyes, shaking his head. I am using this video as technique on using a zero-turn mower for my next acquisition. Thanks for your educational insight.
