    I bought my son an ambulance that had dirt bikes and an atv that he used along with the Joe vehicles I bought at a yard sale for $20.00. It was used as an undercover vehicle or troop transport depending on what he was doing.

    Your enthusiasm for childhood toys is infectious! It really brings me back to the days when using your imagination was key in making great vehicles that you just didn't have. Keep up the great videos and your love for GI Joe!

    Me and my friend use to use Adventure People vehicles and of course adventure people themselves as civilian fodder.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wish I had had more Adventure People for that exact reason! Tough to play out hostage situations when you have like five of them and no females. You start looking at the PlayMobil figures thinking: "well those could be teenagers..."

    • @kevinoswald4136
      @kevinoswald4136 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      we did the same ,I had so many adventure people and vehicles, when gi joe came out is was a slaughter of adventure people unprepared to face soldiers.

      I used Adventure People as Zartan and the disguised Dreadnoks. Then they could fit in all of the narrow five POA seats, lol.

    I forgot how I used to use my Fisher-Price vehicles with my GI Joes (and their figures too). Thanks for reminding me of the good old days playing with my joes splayed out and all dumped over the floor of my TV room as a kid. Before I got my Mobile command center for Hanuka, I made do with fortresses made out of simple wooden blocks or tinker toys as well.
    A final thought, As amazing as all those sets and figures were from 83-89 (roughly) I would have been boxed in (no flag points included) by what product put out and you helped me appreciate and recall how i needed to nudge my imagination a bit further so that I could broaden my fun with some commandeered civilian boats or motorcycles( Man, I wanted the R.A.M.) for the dreadnoks .

    Great concept for a video! My 9 year old and I mix and match all kinds of vehicles and action figures when we play war. We make up creative excuses for why things aren't always quite on scale with each other, like radiation or mutation or aliens.... the only limit is our imagination.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Now that is something I'm going to need a nine year old of my own in order to do. Because I am a true blue slave to scale! I. Can't. Mix. Can't. Do. It.

    my favorite is a recent purchase, the True Heroes Sentinel1 Submarine. Ive set it up with the cobra forces and it looks amazing.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man, Cobra's been going begging for a decent sub for forever. Thank goodness for the imitation brands! It's amazing how they can deliver a slew of massive vehicles in the current economic climate.

  • @AzraelThanatos
    @AzraelThanatos 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There was a rather great plastic "bathtub" boat that was in black and silver that had a transparent red canopy that held a single seat perfect for GIJoe.
    Of course, when the bigger figures came out (same as even older sized ones) there was a great spaceship/playset from the Apollo 13 line that fit them...mainly because the Apollo 13 Astronauts they released for the line used the base bodies from some of the cheaper large Joes (The most noticeable used the, I believe, Grunt one where they even included the facial scar he had on his cheek without even trying to disguise the look).

    Awesome video. Like you, my brother and I would often use other vehicles and playsets with our Joes. AS you mentioned, Star Wars was a big part of that. We also used the Dukes of Hazard, the A-Team, and Buck Rogers as well.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw the A-Team van, but was there a General Lee in scale with GI Joe?! Awesome.

  • @bobastu
    @bobastu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great vehicles man!!! The thing you complained about of the Dragonfly was what I loved about it, the droopy rotors. The rotors droop like that IRL. When MH-60, SH-60, UH-60, AH-6, AH-1Z, and most other helicopters have their rotors strapped to the ground when on a flight line or amphibious vessel deck.
    I love that Chap-Mei helicopter. Time for me to look for it; I love your matte black paint job with haze grey interior, great job. When I was younger, I am older than you, born in '71, I had Fisher Price Adventure People toys. Boats, jeeps, motorcycles, a six wheeled offroad vehicle, a news van, a twin hulled boat that attached to an airplane, a submarine, etc. Zartan would frequently utilize the Fisher Price vehicles, and I could use the Fisher Price action figures as Zartan and the disguised Dreadnoks. Kids play with what they got man!!!!!!!! Great vid!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment Boba! I inherited a few Fisher Price vehicles from my siblings and they saw a lot of use before I started getting actual Joe vehicles. I would strap Joe weapons to them for offensive capabilities.
      And you are spot on about the rotor droop. Very authentic!

    I had the same playmobil spaceship when I was a kid, and I also used it with my gijoe figures. A lot of playmobil stuff works great with the vintage figures!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... and it's heartbreaking when they don't fit! I spent so much time last weekend carving out a Playmobil plane just to get figures to fit!!! Rrrr! And don't get me started on the seats in the space station!

    Hi I'm just watching your old videos on a very sunny afternoon here in England. Your video has reminded me of just how much imagination we had as kids. I used to make base's for my Joe's that were 5ft tall out of cardboard boxes. I promise that is not an exaggeration!! Each box was another level that could be accessed through ladders and hatches. Your totally right about there being loads of generic vehicles that could be incorporated into Joe or Cobra rides!! Anyway as always lots of support from me.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Matt! You reminded my of something - to this day I STILL have these enormous polystyrene shapes I used to use as structures and buildings. I even went as far as to paint them grey! Had ladders and steps too! Ah, to be a child again...

    Steve, you GOTTA paint that Chinook/Tomahawk chopper Cobra Blue, give it some Cobra sigils, and park a HISS in it. That is absolutely a Cobra transport which was regularly featured in the Marvel comic. I always wished they'd make one, and you have it mate!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aw man! I only wish! I fear the HiSS is just a little too tall to fit! And what's wrong with the Helo being Cobra Black? All I need are the sigils! And a duster. Cos that thing is dirrrrrrrrty!

  • @colemcnabb7097
    @colemcnabb7097 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a kid I had some knock off brand police chopper, it was blue so I had Cobra use it, but it had a real light under it so you could make it a search chopper, it also had a clear hooked handle that you connect to a knob above center portion of the blades that made them spin & activated the light. That made using it easy & realistic seeming flight & hover! Also had a cable! That thing was the bomb! The crappy figures it came with looked terrible but they were the same size as Joes so it worked!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man oh man... while we still have lines that share Joe scale today; I feel gems like your chopper are all but extinct. The playing field is a lot narrower. I’d love to see pics of yours!

      GI Joburg. Wish I had pics, sadly I don’t. I also sold all my stuff in a yard sale once I was too old to really play with them, your channel brings lots of good memories back. Thanks for doing it. Kids today don’t know what they missed!

    Fisher Price stuff was great back in the day with the Joes and I could remember using the Tron cycle which provided a lot of fun.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man, I loved using Tron bikes with Joes! And of course I pretended that they projected those walls of light AND they could even travel vertically up walls. Awesome times.

      You should do a Top 10 Non-GI Joe figures that were fun to play with the Joes. Here are a few I can think of: Captain Power(Soaron), Star Wars(Boba Fet), Remco(Hidden Force Ninja), D&D (WarDuke), Crystar(Moltar), and so many more!

    I was thinking on how I used to use the playmospace set for my joes. That one you showed as #2 came with an octagon shaped space ship that had two airlocks and multiple stations inside. I used to use it for a command center since I never got a joe base or any other large playset.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had that space station! It’s featured in one of our vids dealing with non-GI Joe playsets. As a kid I too had none of the official playsets and stuff like Playmobil inherited from my big bro filled the gap. What a legendary toy that was?! Awesome.

  • @Smintjes
    @Smintjes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow! I also used those two exact same Playmobile vehicles for GI Joe! :)

    • @gijoburg

    I use to do similar things with Transformers when I was a kid. (An "Orguss" toy I had as a kid used to be my substitute for Arcee. I'd never seen the Orguss animé so I never felt any sentimentality to the original Mecha.)
    As for vehicles that could carry G.I. Joes, I used to use a 1:18 scale General Lee from 2000. To drive the General, I got Mego's Bo and Luke -- who for some reason, unlike the rest of their toy line, were built like 1982 G.I. Joes -- unscrewed the bottom from the car body, sat them in the seats, and carefully reassembled the car.

    • @mattelder1971
      @mattelder1971 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gijoburg It probably is. The easy way to tell the difference is that the Sea Knight has a single forward landing gear under the nose and two rear ones on short pods while the Chinook has 4 landing gear sets on long side pods. Of course a lot of media misidentifies the Sea Knight as well, I'm sure. I guess I'm just picky about the difference since I served on a Navy ship that had Sea Knights and I rode in them a few times. Hmm for me my go too truck as a kid that I used was the Joker van from the 89 Batman movie. It had a back you could load a few guys in the back. Then it had in the front for two guys. Plus a plastic window in the front which Snake-Eyes or Roadblock would always crash into or throw a Cobra Trooper to take out the driver. I also used Trypitcon from Transformers (his tank mode) as a royal carrier for Serpentor or Destro with HISS or Demon tanks to surround them. And if things got serious to transform him in dinosaur mode to take out Joes (there's a stop on his back which was always perfect for a figure of Joe size. I mean come on. IG Destro on the back of a robot Dinosaur? There was also some a cruiser I owned. I don't know what it was other than a toy my dad had which he passed on to me. I used it for the Joes since I didn't really own any Joe watercraft until later on (Tiger Force forgot the name of it).

      Now I want a Trypticon to try that out. Fascinating. I could never mix Joe and TF's because I just had mundane TF's that would transform into undersized vehicles. But a mechanical beast TF? Yes, that could work very nicely. Awesome!

I will let you in on an update to that when I deal with the sticker sheet first (or I give into secondary temptation and get the Reprolabels of him). Takara re-released the original version two or three years ago (I think). Trypticon was the only TF I mixed with my Joes just because of his size. That's probably your best way to go with the same old style. TFsource might still have him in stock. And yes THEY STILL DO. tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/12497/

      The current release isn't friction powered sadly. It's a thumb wheel. Boooo.

    As a kid, I had this wacky generic Grim Reaper looking guy that I used for Emperor Palpatine.

      Ah, I wish I knew. ^^;; It's been some years. All I remember is a skeleton looking bloke in like grey robes.

    Great video. And great idea not including star wars. Tonka and fisher price had some good offerings too.

      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True that! I had quite a bit of FP; but you know what tore it for me was that Adventure People had narrower hips than Joes and as a result the vehicles were too often a heartbreaking near-fit!

      This is my first time seeing the M.U.L.E. and the playschool spaceship, both are pretty awesome. Will be on the lookout to add to my collection. The line I most regret not being aware of is Tonka Steel Monsters. I outgrew Joe by the time it came out but the kenner aliens powerlifter would have gotten some good playtime in too.

      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw man, I wanted the power lifter too, never saw the toy in the flesh sadly. And you're not the first to mention Steel Monsters to me. I think I may have to track those bad boys down!

    Bionic six, nice choice.

      We got em in abundance back home, right as the cartoon aired. Toy Galaxy did a great vid on Bionic 6 and why it failed in the US market. Timing of product and toon is essential! By the time they reached Africa, LJN had learned that lesson.

      PTE stuff is great. They'd dominate the list if I was being objective. But I let nostalgia take the wheel!

    speaking of playmobile, but did you see the new mars rover from them? it looks perfect for a mission where gi joes have to travel to outer space and fight a colony on another planet whose politics had turned against the people on earth.

      @gijoburg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I occasionally keep tabs on what Playmobil is doing. That is a slippery slope- there is so much stuff that could be integrated. But I’d hate to have to carve out such gorgeous toys to get my figures to fit well. That said, I bought the Playmobil time machine from Back to the Future and it is INCREDIBLE.

    The osprey does it hold a Jeep like the vamp have the chinook and it’s great

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly not. The Osprey can manage a pair of Ferrets, or some troops but that's about it. The Chinook takes first prize for space. You can drive a Thunder Machine into her.
