    Mine's still sitting at the bottom of the lake somewhere. All hands went down, no survivors.

      Oh god you too!?
      Standing at the lake shore with the top section still in my hand while the rest disappeared into the murky, muddy waters was not my finest hour. Barracuda was one of the only two GI Joe vehicles I ever had and was definitely the better of the two.
      I'm not a Joe collector but I might just buy another one on ebay and treat it better.

    I loved the Barracuda as a kid. It was the only aquatic vehicle I had. And for some reason, I always used Deep Six V2 as the driver. I love that the boy would rather play with a 25 year old G.I Joe toy than whatever he brought with him!

  • @DREADNOK_RYAN
    @DREADNOK_RYAN 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    You guys rock. Your reviews are always awesome and remind me how fun it is to play with your toys. Also seeing that kid play with the Barracuda shows that Joe is timeless and maybe they need to think about how they market to young kids.

      Good point Ryan. Yeah man, great toys; universally fun and very appealing to kids. They don't make em like they used to! We were a lucky generation.

    Just watching this again for the umpteenth time & I keep finding cool little things to love about your productions. Everything from you guys actually handling the toys to accomplish the action to details like using a Sludge Viper on the Sled a' la DIC cartoon, and sound FX that always put a grin on my face. Hope that GoPro gets worked hard!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so very much! What inspiration to do more of these. In a world of endless TH-cam content, you chose to watch our vid more than once? That's a massive compliment. And I'm stoked you saw the aquatic Sludge Viper! I have a pair of V2 Eels but right before we set figures on the Hammerhead I was all like: "wait a minute..."

    I remember when I was a kid and it first came out, I saved up my allowance and sold off some other toys to friends to make the money to buy my own barracuda sub, I had a great love of the aquatic G.I.Joe toys but only ever had the Devilfish and the Barracuda sub. Still it was an awesome toy. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

    Great review! I joined the US Navy in '92 and volunteered for submarine duty. It is so awesome to be on a boat designed and built to sink. Sadly, I never found the effervescent tablet system on either of my submarines, but I know I had to be there. Great job!

    Had this when I was a kid! I loved underwater stuff and this got a lot of use... For living on a dry mountainside, I had to really use imagination to picture the bushes and scrubs as giant underwater plants and corals, and the patio bricks as a lost underwater civilization.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Us too! I live near the beach but it was prohibitive to try and play out full adventures in the rock pools so any bit of blue carpet doubled as an ocean. We used to use the “No Signal” blue screen of the television to light the lounge blue and play underwater wars out in the glow! There was a treacherous trench behind the couch only the most daring sub drivers would attempt!

  • @thatbigjawguy325

    Being late into the Joes and poverty stricken parents, this was the only GI Joe vehicle toy I had. With no other relevant toy, it struggled to fit in my GI Joe stories. Though still fond of it!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw man, I thought this would be the perfect solitary vehicle! I used to draw the curtains and make the TV set display a solid blue “no signal” screen in the lounge and use mine to navigate a treacherous underwater cave system. Looked so atmospheric in that murky blue glow!

    Haha! Yep many an undersea battle between my Barracuda and Hammerhead! That boy at the end reminds me of the other day when I pulled out the Joes Mobile Battle Bunker and my two year old son was just enamored by it. Sometimes he'd call it a truck and other times a choo choo. Even he couldn't figure that crazy vehicle out lol. Awesome vid! Really love the effort and storytelling you guys put into them!

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This was badass to 10 year old me. Unfortunately even with a string tied to it, the upper and lower halves do have a tendency to seperate. Usually due to the soft soot on the bed, it acts as a suction cup, a light tug at the string and you lost the bottom half and figure inside.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I loved the Barracuda as a kid. One of a handful of Joe toys I got new in the box. Most of my Joe toys were hand me downs or came from yard sales. Not much left of my original but I was able to replaced it with a decent one a few years back and recently an even better one. I also picked up the re-colored Cobra counterpart the Man O War that was released in 2000. I honestly didn't even know it existed until a few years back. Granted I spent that year training as a Marine so I wasn't up to speed on toy releases in 2000.

    • @nickynostalgia6493
      @nickynostalgia6493 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gijoburg Other then the grey black and red color scheme of the Man-O-War they are identical. As much as I love the Cobra color scheme I would take the original blue and yellow Barracuda over the Man-O-War. After all it is the original and that's what childhood me took into battle. On a side note I would buy boxes of alka-seltzer to power the diving action. A $5 box would last many missions into the deep and back. I will put some pictures of my Barracudas and Man-O-War on twitter tommorow. This video has ended the debate between myself and I on what to showcase for tomorrows post.

      Can't argue with you there. And it totally slipped my mind that Paul owns one! Whoops. I should have grabbed it for a comparison. But I guess I'm a sucker for original releases. And I had a ton of nostalgia for this lil (Joe) sub.

  • @Mundane05
    @Mundane05 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was never a fan of the barracuda, partly because I never had it as a kid which made me jelly, and partly because it falls into the group of unipersonal vehicles that look like shrunken down version of much larger real-life vehicles. Which includes many vehicles but off the top of my head the Cobra Hydra stands out.

    The movie Thunderball (James Bond) was a big deal to me and it influenced my Aquatic Joe/cobra items. Large scale underwater battles in a plastic wading pool were not uncommon in my backyard. I never had this sub but now I wish I had!!

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was always more of a “Hunt For Red October” man, myself. My underwater scenarios were very slow but tense! But I’ll say Thunderball really informed the way I play with the Cobra Hydro Sled... see Blazing Sand Part V if you don’t know what I mean!

      There was just always something about it's simple hull design, jagged, edges, and bright yellow tech that made it feel special. As a kid I would imagine Wetsuit isolated in that tiny enclosed cockpit deep in dark deep ocean handling a special assignment alone.
      It may sound like a stretch, but this vehicle always gave me the same "no-support necessary, situation handled" feeling I got from the V2. (Wolf) or V4 (Orange Katanas) Snake-Eyes figures.
      The Barracuda transformed Wet-Suit from an underwater diving specialist into a venerable one man sea-wolf. I always felt the team could be confident that when his sub resurfaced that meant a job was done.

      It's very skippable. But therein lies the charm! I had absolutely no problem letting it go into rockpools and being bashed about by the surf. I probably would have been a bit sheepish about doing the same with a BUGG. So in at least one respect it is a superior toy! i.e. rough play!

    • @gijoburg

      I used to take measures to dry them by blowing, dabbing with tissue paper, leaving them in strong winds to dry... then I decided on a new tactic. All my aquatic figures with clean screws had their screws swapped out for rusty ones. Now I play with them underwater to my heart's content! I don't mind a blemished screw, I've never treated my Collection as museum quality. They're treasured toys, don't get me wrong. But at the end of the day they're still toys!
