Thanks Nigel for sharing your advice about wide angle lenses. Like you mentioned it’s not easy, but I´m trying to shoot more and more at wide angle (I prefer long focals, so it’s a total opposite for me). Beside, I don’t get it why there is so much angry reactions in the comments, just because he is toying with an Hasselblad? As long as the 25min of video, I didn’t noticed it was about a sponsoring. He could use any other camera brands, the subject was « wide angle shot ». And that’s precisely what was coverded in this video. It the only reason I follow photograpers like him: they talk about their passion for photography first, and camera gear in second.
The fist shot is perfect! I think we can overthink shots too much. It would be great on any media advertising the Lake District. So many wide-angle shots overemphasise the foreground and look weird, your first shot looks ‘normal’ - just as you almost might see it with your eyes. But overall the video makes us focus on composition, which is the most important thing in a pleasing photo. And as another comment has said, “please, no more Hasselblads”!
Thanks Nigel. I just got a super wide lens for my apsc nikon and I'm off to Snowdonia in a week or so! Your timing is perfect and your tips really well explained. 👍
Hi Nigel, the right moment to get good tips from you in handling foregrounds using a wide angle lens. A few months ago I bought a Z6III and a Z 6 17-28 mm F2.8 lens. This lens was a real discovery of experimenting with perspectives, as I normally use the Z6 and the Z 24-70 f4, and the Z 24-200 f 4-6.3. Your story now confirms my interest in widening perspectives by going closer to the foreground and telling othere stories with my landscape images. Bert.
Always like when you cover wide lenses - recently shot some coastal sea scape stuff and the two final images I chose I really thought about the foreground, middle and background from your previous compositional episodes - one is clearly stronger due to having a really decent set of leading lines where as the other one that’s not as strong isn’t quite there, super simple tips to improve your landscape photography explained well

It’s unlikely I’ll ever be splashing out on a Z8 never mind a Hasselblad but I haven’t heard too many complaints about photographers using high end full frame cameras, it’s just what you’d expect a pro to be using. Sad story alert. Your use of the phrase "without dying" is not misplaced. I worked with a guy who worked his entire life up until his retirement day, which he was very much looking forward to. He retired on the Friday and went for a stroll along a rocky beach on the Saturday. Slipped on wet rocks, banged his head and passed away. 😢 There are a lot of lessons to be learned in that short story.

@@paulbarnard5267It’s completely fair that you only want to watch photographers with the same level of gear as you own, but don’t blame the photographers - who in their right mind would say no to that offer, especially someone who lives of photography? 😅 I feel both fototripper, Thomas Heaton, etc. have been extremely humble about the situation and that none of them have implied that you need the same camera to go out and find joy shooting (quite the opposite actually) - rather I find that they talk about general principles like aperture, composition, etc. Personally I watch them all for their personalities and not the gear they use, but again it’s fair that you don’t- I just don’t like that you’re putting it on them. I mean, I like wearing green jackets, but I don’t shame anyone for wearing red ones. 🤷🏼♂️
I’m not in that lucky position, but I know plenty of professionals in the music industry that turn down a lot of high end “gifts”/advert gifts for socials.
It wasn’t long ago it was yellow bags and how absolutely fantastic they were, funny how you don’t see them anymore.
Goodbye Nigel......
I guess (hope) at least you had heard of "F8 and be there" (something I knew about in my teens when starting photography) unlike another "Free Hassey" muppet! Hasselblad sales must be in serious trouble with so many cameras being gifted to influencers.
There are a lot of lessons to be learned in that short story.
Another one... Funny how the identity of a whole channel is defaced by the temptation of a freebee!
Lol, so many haters on here.
Did you sell your IT business for a large sum or perhaps an inheritance. Now like other youtubers, the X2D for validation. All a bit pretentious and boring
Too bad we can see the "Dislikes" on TH-cam anymore?
