Your Hasselblad reviews are like the perfect lens-sharp, colorful, and full of depth :-) And those Japan shots are stunning. One day, I hope to get my hands on a Hasselblad, but until then, I’m living vicariously through your videos. Keep em coming!
Definitely more lens reviews like this. Showing how you use a lens artistically is far more useful and important than if it's sharp corner to corner etc. The images are fantastic in this.
Wow, the colors and composition are absolutely amazing! It really makes me want to print everything out because it’s so beautiful, but I’m sure you’ve already done that! 😊 I also love shooting wide-format photos with my GFX. I’d love to have a Hasselblad, even just for that minimalist design.
In an era of people shooting wide open, it's refreshing to see you pushing the practice of stopping down and using the proper aperture for the right situation. Reminds me of your lesson videos from the early days of the channel. Much love and Happy New Year Ted.
It's great that you ask what we're interested in, but I'm happy to see where your curiosity takes you (and us). I learn a lot from your presentations, and I don't expect that to change. I'm a new owner of an x2d and the 38 (and 90). So you exploring the 38 is very helpful to me. I'm also loving the xpan crop mode, but I usually forget to play with the crops until I'm back at my computer. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these videos. These are wonderfully educational and delightful.
Crops are nice options , and what to say about the result of the lens " Just. Perfect " crop factor gives you different vision as well as your identity . Thanks for sharing this video . looking forward to the next one .
Among my Hasselblad lenses, the 38V is my go-to lens for most things. it’s truly versatile and not too wide. The sensor allows for a lot of cropping, so it works well for most of the time.
Yes - love to see more of these long term reviews of lenses you actually use and not just evaluating or testing. A big difference. BTW - I also recently got the 75P and was pleased it was one of the lenses you took with you rather than the 90V. I have been more than pleased with the 75P and it is the best of the P series in my opinion.
Really enjoyed the photographs you took with that camera. Out of other TH-cam vids showcasing this camera I enjoyed this one the most. Colors were insane 🫡
Great pics. Years ago I was sent to Japan to shoot a story. I would have loved having that camera with me back then--I shot with film at the time. Now I shoot with the Fujifilm GFX 100ii which I like. I loved the x-pan format you used. That crop is what a lot of clients would ask for when they needed imagery for their websites...Long and narrow.
Hi Ted Been following you for sometime, actually today started to listen to you chat with Neale James on the Photowalk podcast. Although I cannot afford an X2D 😊 this video was really good, your review approach was great and the photos were awesome. I like this style of review Thanks Andrew in Ottawa Canada 🇨🇦
As much as I love the colors on the x2d I find the Leica sl3 with 35mm apo sl lens to be somewhat as good as the Hasselblad. Nice photos love the xpan look
This was very good. I keep going back and forth with picking up the Hassy, because honestly I've heard horrors of DJI's professional support. The images from Kyoto were amazing. I went to the same isurary garden and my images back from 2018 were not nearly as good at capturing the awe and wonder of the location.
I like those Hassys, but the lack of a mechanical shutter is a deal breaker for me. I adapt tons of old lenses, so I went with the GFX. It also has the xpan crop mode (since the xpan was also the fuji tx-1, I feel like I'm still technically shooting an official digial xpan :) ).
Sorry to miss the workshop, and glad it went well Ted. I have the 38V and the 55V, with the X2D. I have come very close to buying the 90V, but wonder if it's size and weight (though a big improvement on the original 90) might mean it gets under-utilised. Enter the 75P, but then my focal lengths are a little bunched up. I'm hoping there will be a 105ish P lens, f4 or even f5.6 - or in Hasselblad tradition, maybe that would be 110 or 120mm? Both longer and lighter than the 90V - that's what my fingers are crossed for. Very good reminder here from you on DOF with this larger sensor, combined with the ease to which in vs out of focus can be seen in the image. Your Japan images look great btw.
Great video and review of the 38V. To me it’s the perfect lens for the X2D for the sort of work I do for all the reasons you highlighted. 80% of my shots with the X2D over the last 18 months were with the 38V despite having the 55, 90 and 25 in my bag.
Hello, Two of my favorate thing with the Hasselblad X system, are the lenses and the usability of the cameras. I only have the X1d and X2D C100 and 5 of there XCD lenses. I do love shooting with the xpan crop. Have a super 2025.
I am contemplating on the 907x 100c, and wondering if a 28p or 38v is a better option as a first lens. For context, I am primarily shooting with my Leica Q3 and want the Hassy for shooting nature at camping out and travel.
Wonderful content and photography as always. Interesting comments re Xpan reflecting a format used in Japanese art. Re lens reviews (build, resolution, etc can be touched on) - many less profound or gear focused YT"s doing this already -so where to pitch your niche to protect your brand value? Re Xpan format - it's a source of frustration that more camera manufacturers haven't offered it as a format option on +40M cameras - given Panasonic's offering on S5, etc, still, all manageable in post. Happy New Year, all the best for '25. PS Enjoyed hearing you on Photowalk.
Excellent video, and what an amazing workshop! I hope to join you for one in the future. I definitely want more of this style of video and would love a similar one dedicated to the 75P. I have the 25V, 45P and 75P for my 907X, and I am on the fence about the 38V or the 55V. Ideally, I would buy both, but realistically I need to decide upon one. Now that you have a lot of experience with the 38V, which would you recommend?
I received my autographed copy of your book on December 27th. I love everything about it! I can only assume that because I purchased the autographed copy vs buying from a retail book store inside was a postcard size picture wishing me a Happy New Year. It was from you and your wife. The picture was from Japan. I can’t thank you enough for the book and picture! Here’s wishing you and your wife a prosperous and Happy New Year! Oh yes one more thing, Go BUCKEYES beat the longhorns!!!!
@@theartofphotography I should hope so. But to return to the original question, have you noticed any image degradation when/if you use filters? Seems like a sensor of this size would be more likely to reveal that if it's there at all. PS - Thanks for all the great content!
I haven’t used any filters on this particular lens, but I have on the system in the past. I’ve not tested it with “cheap” filters. I would imagine a slight loss in light transmission is possible, but that’s not something you’d necessarily be able to “see” in the final image. Color shifts are certainly possible with things like poorly made ND filters. Pro-mist and satin filters are designed to alter the image somewhat so I guess its possible, but I’ve no evidence that you’d be able to see the difference in any decent UV filter. I never use UV filters so I can’t really tell you.
I recently sold my whole Hasselblad kit because after owning it since the launch of the X1Dii, because they refused to make any fast primes lenses apart from the 80mm f1.9, and the absolute garbage low light performance of it. the 3 new 2.8s were not enough to keep me in the eco system, and couldn't save the focus. Unfortunate because I liked the system, when it could focus or see anything in less than studio lighting or high noon.
Unlikely. DJI already owns Hasselblad and are not going to sell, and Sony is very unlikely to pay the massive premium it would cost to buy Leica - even if the Kaufmans were interested in selling - which they are not.
Your Hasselblad reviews are like the perfect lens-sharp, colorful, and full of depth :-) And those Japan shots are stunning. One day, I hope to get my hands on a Hasselblad, but until then, I’m living vicariously through your videos. Keep em coming!
These images are stunning. I love that you went with that format and the tie into Japanese art. Lots of portfolio images!!
Definitely more lens reviews like this. Showing how you use a lens artistically is far more useful and important than if it's sharp corner to corner etc. The images are fantastic in this.
I love how you balance technical insight with personal experience in your reviews! Thank you for sharing your expertise! 💯
Love the blur on the broom in the picture at 06:32 . This detail gives the picture a movement and a depth.
Please review the 75P! Thank you, ted. As always, you are a treasure to the photography community.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE STUNNING!
I love watching your channel. You're great at sharing information in a clear and enthusiastic manner, showing your love for this wonderful art form!
This format works great! I'd love to see more in-depth reviews on specific lenses, especially these fantastic Hasselblad optics.
In an era of people shooting wide open, it's refreshing to see you pushing the practice of stopping down and using the proper aperture for the right situation. Reminds me of your lesson videos from the early days of the channel. Much love and Happy New Year Ted.
Thank you Ted. Happy new year.
Loved the Japan images.
Beautiful!

Great video. I'm invested in the X2D system as well and would love to see more images from the 75P before I pull the trigger.
Outstanding material! Kudos on Japanese trip, I rediscovered wide 35mm with your diverse stunning images.
YES. Please follow-up with the 75P and compare against the 90V as I'm stuck on which to buy between the two. I already have a 38V and love it.
Nice to be able to used one camera and lens, done so well 👍
Ted: You are one of the best at loading a ton of useful and interesting information into 11:06 minutes. Yes please, more reviews. Thanks..
Crops are nice options , and what to say about the result of the lens " Just. Perfect " crop factor gives you different vision as well as your identity . Thanks for sharing this video . looking forward to the next one .
I think I need to pull out my 38v. Been enjoying my 25v recently. I hope to be traveling to Japan later this year. Good video.
Completely agree with your comments on the X2D and the 38mm. Love mine!!

nice to see again some of these shots ^^ amazing camera and really dreaming format
As much as I love the colors on the x2d I find the Leica sl3 with 35mm apo sl lens to be somewhat as good as the Hasselblad. Nice photos love the xpan look
My exact set up Ted, I’m so pleased with this camera and I to love the xpan crop. I’m so pleased I chose the 38v instead of the 55v.
Thanks!

I would appreciate more long term reviews. Thank you.
I use the X2D mainly for Landscape. The 38V is my favourite lens also, so is the Xpan format.
my god! your photos in this video is amazing!! and the talk about xpan format makes me want to try it out myself.
Sorry to miss the workshop, and glad it went well Ted.

Wonderful images. Hope I get the chance to say hi the next time you're here.
Loved this! Thanks. I’m headed to Tokyo next week with my 907x, 38v & 75p. Would love to hear more about your experience there with the 75p
Hi Ted. Was in Japan with my X2D pretty similar time to you - a gorgeous time to be there. Definitely, please do a video on the 75P!
Yes, also show the 75P.
Thanks a lot ! you provide the most useful information for a new comer of medium format like me!
The shot at 0:25 is stunning, which lens was that?
It's slightly out of focus, so must be Leica
@ you see out of focus. I see art. Tech heads vs artist.
Boom!
Ordered your book from my local bookstore. Eagerly awaiting waiting its arrival.

The X1D is still a great camera. I use it and enjoy it. The Hasselblad colours are unmatched.
I just got my 38v in and love it!

I thought this review was excellent. I would appreciate more like this. And your pictures were stunning. Thanks for sharing them in this way.
Great video as always! Just got my X2D and 55V. Sold my 907x 50c. I would love to see a 75p video 😃
Talking fast is teaching fast. Very true with you.
I was thinking the Book will be HardCover In the video it seems to be hardcover, but the description on Amazon says PaperBack.
that my next camera to get for portraits only and still will use my Z9 and Z6 for sports.
Stunning images and narrative. By the way, had you just drank a lot of coffee?
Love the image at 5:32. 👍🏼
Which is the best lens to use for XPAN mode?
Ted, nice video but beautiful photos make it even better.
Genuinely would love to see your take on the Mitakon 65 1.4 and 80 1.6 for GFX/X-system!
gorgeous shots!
Do you recommend 38 or 55?

38v you say. hmmm now you've made me change my mind, incredibly nice pictures from Japan.
Maybe it will be 38v instead of 25v
Do you ever use a lens filter when shooting with the X2D? Curious if a sensor that size is more prone to reveal IQ degradation from a filter.
Hasselblad will also sell you a Hasselblad branded UV filter. According to the marketing blurb, it enhances the lens. Also it costs 4x
@@jkspepper05 "Enhances the lens." They're funny.
It actually doesn't say that at all.
@@theartofphotography I should hope so. But to return to the original question, have you noticed any image degradation when/if you use filters? Seems like a sensor of this size would be more likely to reveal that if it's there at all. PS - Thanks for all the great content!

Wow you got grey 😅 When did that happen? Ok i did too go grey. Time flies 😢
Great pictures 🤘📷🤘
Awesome & Thanks :)
I have fuji gfx and xpan mode is the best
Wonderful images Ted! 👏 Those Hasselblad colours are hard to beat.
75 v 90 video would be great
The most painful way to take pictures. I sold x2d and got sony a7cr. X2d is crazy slow and 100mp is an overkill very few people need

en fait une fois imprimée personne

😊😊❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Owned by DJI, Vorndran Mannheims Capital, so where is Hasselblad's cameras made - still in Sweden - or is it China now?
Still Gothenburg
So sad Hasslblad is a Chinese owned company now. Sad panda.
Who cares who owns it. As long as the quality is still good that’s all that matters
Sony are about to take control of large format cameras. It’s coming ! . They will probably buy Hasselblad and Leica very soon.
Unlikely. DJI already owns Hasselblad and are not going to sell, and Sony is very unlikely to pay the massive premium it would cost to buy Leica - even if the Kaufmans were interested in selling - which they are not.
