Great document! Love the amount of focus on classical music. Funny how we think of the early “bebop” era as history, but so did they in the 50s, only 10-15 years on. 10-15 years prior to now was only 2008-2013 ish. Wow!!
Such a great interview. Keen to listen to so much more. And crazy to think Charlie is 33 here, the same age I am now - can't really imagine having gained that much musical experience in such a short time. And he'd be gone from this world just two years later.
"I like Dixieland - I like good Dixieland. It's alright, you know? But i just don't play it because I most likely wouldn't make a good job at it anyway. I just think it should go another way."

and its crazy because our music has also changed so much in our era from 2013- 2024
I hear wisdom and dignity. Great to hear the master speak. Great insight. This is a gem.
He is so positive with the other musicians! ❤

Short time?
Not if you know how to practice
@@Zxx459 I feel like I've learned quite a lot as a musician and teacher these past 26 years or so, but not a fraction of what Charlie knew.

❤ This is a wonderful interview. Very telling
In the Clint Eastwood movie, ' Bird ; Eastwood Has Charlie Parker being portrayed as a bafoon. He never showed mr. Parker's genius.
Strong defense of Kenton!
Thanks for doing this
KUDOS ❤❤❤
OUT TO
CHARLIE PARKER 🎉
Does anyone know the whereabouts of the session Parker mentions at the end with woodwind quintet and rhythm section.
I'm almost sure he's referring to the Dave Lambert Singers session he did that year. Look up Parker 'In The Still Of The Night'...
Rare interview,CP always sounds stoned.
Should have more views.
HOW DOES HE SOUND STONED?
DID YOU EVEN, KNOW THE MAN OR DID YOU JUST READ ABOUT THE LEGEND OF THE MAN?
Sabio !! ❤
Why are all of the music examples cut out???!!! 😡
Dont forget. That in parkers tome segregation, racism was at it is peack..meaning MO OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLORED PEOPLE..
With eighteen months to live, he sounds like 70 at 32...
U mean ahead of his time a real true legend
