I broke my ankle (bimalleolar fracture) two weeks ago. I completely understand what you mean. It's so hard to not be frustrated and depressed about it.
But ultimately, it was just a bad thing that happened to me, I guess. The only thing I can do about it is to move forward and work to become better.
I really hope your recovery is also going well. ❤

@@tamaradixon3280 the “emotional” part is not discussed by Doctors. That’s why real people with real experiences have helped me SO much. My head space when I wrote that comment to now 6 weeks later is drastically different. Hope you have a speedy recovery ❤️

@@indescribablelove3846 I totally agree. About a week after surgery, my husband managed to borrow a wheelchair and took me to see him perform in a local play. I got chatting to some of the other performers, and several of them had their own stories of broken bones and screws and plates (it's amazing how many people have gone through it!).
Hearing other people tell their stories really helped.

@@tamaradixon3280the two of you in this comment section made me feel better. I have an isolated lateral malleolus fracture and they’re not sure whether it’s displaced enough to do surgery yet (it’s been one week) so I go in for followup X-rays in three days. It’s frustrating being in limbo. Once I know it’ll be better but mannnn I hope I don’t need surgery. Just stepped wrong and heard a loud pop. Such a stupid injury :/ I go in and out of sadness versus taking it in stride.
Anyway… enough about me. I hope you both are doing better now :)

Hope all u guys are doing well Frl ur not alone I broke my ankle on Christmas night Dec 25th 2022 and it was the worse thing ever. I had surgery the day after I currently have a plate and 7 screws I broke my fibula and tore my ligament. All this because I was doing pull ups on a doorway and I only fell from a short height but I still managed to break it. 7 months later and im pretty much 100% i am living life like normal before and even feeling great doing sports and the sport I love. Don’t give up guys I was totally depressed but u gotta fight in life. Physical therapy was painful as well but it’ll only make u stronger believe me❤️

I am going through a broken ankle right now but I didn't need surgery, I was a orthopaedic nurse for 2 years, I never had a broken bone in my life and I never realised how hard life is, just simple things like going to the toilet is so hard, the pain is so unbearable, I am no where as bad as yourself but as a ex-orthopaedic nurse I can finally understand the suffering of my patients, I had no idea how bad it is to get a break.

I was in your position last year. I crashed on a moped and broke my ankle in three different places . First time breaking any bones in my body. Just relax, read, and stay off that leg until you go through your therapy. It is hard because the emotions are real because you can’t do anything without help. I did not do the crutches but I got a bike that I placed my leg on to wheel myself around. I live in America so I do not know what they have to offer where you live. But happy recovery. I known how you feel but you will be back to normal again.😊

Mr. Parkes, I’m very sorry to hear the news of your injury. I wish you the speediest of recoveries! I’ve been watching your channel for about a year and learned a lot from you. As I trained for my first marathon, your advice helped me remember to keep proper perspective and, most importantly, make it fun. I know your hard work and planning will pull you through this tough time. Your efforts have taught many of us about running and life. I hope you can find some inspiration in knowing the positive influence you’ve been to many of us. To support the channel, I’ll be shopping the site for merchandise. Best wishes to you and Sarah.

I just had surgery yesterday. I feel while on retreat at a horse ranch. I finished the retreat thinking it was a bad sprain. A week layer at my doctors request I had an x-ray and was devastated to find out it was broken.
I felt incredibly grateful through this whole process. The level of short I've received is miraculous from family ( who are across the country, friends from the country and wonderful neighbors). I know the healing journey will take time.
And, I feel incredibly fortunate to receive support. I too was emotional before surgery but, I wanted not feel any physical pain.
I do live alone with my two pups. My neighbors are the ABSOLUTE best.

I too live alone. My mom came yesterday. Before that I was all alone and I sat for two weeks before I was able to get to have surgery with a trimalleor fracture of my ankle and 14 broken pieces of bones sitting in my ankle. I had my surgery yesterday morning. I had a nerve block and am afraid to fall asleep bc I don’t want to wake up in excruciating pain from the block wearing off. I definitely took my health for granted. God bless you in your journey to get back to normal 😢

Really feel for you Ben and wish you a speedy recovery. I discovered your channel at a time when my own running wasn't going so well, but little by little with the help of your form and strength videos and general positivity I rediscovered my love for running. Hopefully now you can draw strength and comfort in the knowledge that whilst you're not currently able to run you will continue to help and inspire others.

I'm a super slow runner since an injury last year and have recently started following your beginners half marathon plan which I'm repeating each week twice for a slow progression. I'm really looking forward to seeing your journey and watching your fitness return. You can do this!

I am in a similar situation. I am currently not allowed to bear any weight on my left foot. I am counting the days until my next appointment in 3 weeks time when I hope I will receive the green light to starting putting weight. You need to remain positive. I know it sucks all the healing process. But only by following the doctor advice and being patient we can make it!

I just went through ORIF surgery last week. Have just completed 10 days. The surgeon took off my dressing yesterday. I did a spinal anaesthesia. I did not want to stay awake. No weight on my leg for 6 weeks now. Next 6 weeks partial weight. I have been using my right knee on a stool and standing on my left leg to help in the bathroom. Looks like we are in the same boat. Reading, self healing meditation, movies, wordle, and some online work is keeping me sane.

    Thank you Ben,
We are not alone... I have just sustained a similar injury and Im waiting for the surgery. I live alone in Spain ( up 2 flights of stairs) . I am lucky enough to have many friends here but I am managing to get around ok without intervention so far. One thing that I find vital to my mental welbeing is to go outside once a day for coffee and a little socialising. Hiring a mobility scooter makes this possible. I trust you found little tricks and techniques to help make life a little easier.... (I had a very serious accident 6 years ago, both legs, open femur and tib/fib) Just try things safely, push yourself and watch how your upper body becomes toned.
I know its a devastating setback but to anybody reading this, things will be ok.
You will be amazed at what you can do if you have to! This gives you greater confidence as your autonomy returns.
    We got this 👍👊
    Good luck everyone

You've got this Ben! I like to think of this as something to make you mentally stronger in the long run. Also to make you appreciate your capabilities! (That's my mindset anyways, I work physio in a nursing home, so when I go running I appreciate it because I know there are individuals who want to, but can't).
Can't imagine the mental torture you went through when you found out it was broken!!
Take care and speedy healing! From across the pond in Ontario. -Erin!
