Just found your video. I am an original owner of a 1973 Javelin AMX that I ordered new in March of 73. You might be interested that It took 7 weeks to build and then ship to Art Post Rambler in Michigan. Mine is Cordoba Brown (Met.) with gold fade to black hood T stripe, all black vinyl interiour. 401 Go pac with 4-speed, dealer install 3.73 rear gears, all tint windows, under front bumper air dam, console, inside hood release, power steering, light group. Am/ Fm stereo, Insulation Group, Protection Group, Viny body side scuff molding. My AMX stickered at, $4,571.90, of which the rare Go Pac option cost $476.25. Only 1,027 of the 5,707 AMX's built in 1973 were ordered with the rare cowl induction, or just18% that were built. That cowl induction worked so good, that some have said that it would add another 18 to 20 more horse power when in use. Only changes that I have made to the AMX are, replaced intake manifold with the rare 1970 Rebel Machine and larger Carter 9625 carburetor. Replaced stock front sway bar with a larger 1 in. dia. sway bar, added a 1/2 in. dia. rear sway bar. Today I use 90 octane non ethanol gas, with the addition of 6 ounces or, 177 CC's of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, for every 10 gallons of gas. This I've learned is to protect the valve seats. This AMX is an awesome performer with superior handling. Thank you for the awesome video and the much hard work you have put into this rare AMX.
John Dodson thanks for this video, I am getting ready to put my 71 back together. What makes it worse is I got it already torn apart so talk about finding and getting all the right pieces back in the right place after a year, just imagine if you didn't take it apart. Your video will help a lot!
I'm the original owner of a 1972 Javelin AMX. Noticed your '71 AMX has the front valence, not a front spoiler, should it? Of the four years of the second generation ('71-''72) I think the '71 and '72 were the best of those four years and the rarest. They have better styling features, and better performance items such as the functional cowl induction hood. True "Go" rather than "Show" '73-''74 cars. As you know, about 3000 Jav AMX's were built per model year, while companies like Ford pumped out 150,000 Mustangs per year.
Dot5 is not recommended ever to the best of my knowledge. It is not hydroscopic and any moisture that enters the system will not be absorbed and will cause corrosion and fade(boil). If incorrect please let me know, getting a bit punchy.

FYI, all DOT 3 & 4 brake fluid is synthetic made from Polyethylene Glycol. DOT 5 is Silicone based.
