That was definitely a rumor. I can neither confirm nor deny that it is. I guess I should get out a micrometer and see. I do know the 91 hoods were a one year hood design. The hood guides on the 92 and 93’s were different.
@skidoojunky6230 definitely true for the Plus X. Years ago I had a plus and ran across an x hood and the front fox shocks for sale. I bought them and lifting each hood x hood was definitely lighter.
My Plus 500, that Dustin coached me when buying it had been stripped of anything that made it look different from a regular Plus. The big 500 decals etc. were gone, but the Vin was correct as well as the engine, air box etc. Story is the guy bought it in Quebec, went to a dealer show and it was there, and the guy asked for the fastest sled they could give him and thats what he got. He asked for everything special be removed and lake raced it making quite a bit of money till he eventually got cought. I still need to talk to the original owner if he is still alive, to get all the details. First thing I did was order the 500 decals, they look very cool. The Plus 500 motor went into the 91 Plus X, but I am sure Skidoojunky will be doing a video on both the Plus 500 (when he gets one or both into the showroom) and the 91 Plus X.
I remember the story Pete! I would say that based on production numbers and mortality rate of the race sleds the 1990 Plus 500's and the 1991 Plus X's are most definitely among the rarest left in existence. I will say of all of my X sleds the only two that I have never ridden are my 1990 Plus 500's and the 1991 PLus X. I would never be able to replace them if something were to happen.
Amazing collection. Real nice pan out to reveal that you are actually up on another level that houses even more snow machines. Is it an illusion or does this engine have all loose head bolts and spark plugs that are not fully threaded into the head?

I have a friend who was a tech guy for various sanctioning bodies in that era, and bringing up these OG "X" sleds still gets his blood pressure up to this day. As I understand it, they suspected - pretty much knew - that Ski-Doo was playing games with the production numbers, but had issues proving it back in the day.
@@skidoojunky6230 I can remember talking about this to somone years ago, I think someone affiliated with the company or had been, subject got changed pretty quickly, you could tell it was a sore subject.
I have one of these things it used to be a race sled when my uncle had it it’s just been sitting in the garage. It has no oil so I’m just wondering what it takes.

I had an 88 Plus with a Decker 580 motor in it. It got about 3mpg. lol

Another great video! Love the look of the prs sleds as well. I believe the Mach 1x also had a thinner hood material making it a bit lighter.
