Thanks for starting this channel. It’s hard finding people who love Xenoblade and the Trails series in “real life.” Looking forward to your future content. 👍
Thank you! I'm really enjoying all the pleasant interactions and discussions around these games so far. I find that it's been really enriching my overall hobby experience :)
I love SMT4. Probably my favorite game on the 3DS. Playing that back in 2013 along with Soul Hackers pretty much began my obsession with the franchise as well as my re-entry into games after being away for several years. I'll end it thus lol
Oh nice! Soul Hackers is on my list to get to eventually. All the SMT games on the 3DS have really interesting premises and I look forward to eventually get to them all haha
Your videos made me want to break my habit of the regular type of games I play. I bought Monark for switch completely on a whim and I'm actually enjoying it. Can't wait till your next video.
Oh I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Monark, that was a game I was on the fence with after hearing some mixed reviews. I really liked a lot of the character designs and the battle systems looked pretty neat so I may have to pick it up at some point. And thanks, hoping to release a video within the next couple of days before I leave for a work trip :)
I've been playing SMT 4 as my first SMT game (outside of persona 3 and 5) and so far I'm absolutely LOVING it. Well I say "so far" but I am quite LITERALLY at the very end of the neutral route which I'm very happy I ended up getting as it was what I wanted to get (I didn't use a guide but I've heard it's very difficult to get neutral without one so that's cool) but yeah would love to hear more about your thoughts when you get further in. truly truly a special game and I cannot wait to play more from the series
Oh very cool! Glad to hear you've been enjoying your time & got the route you were aiming for. I'm really looking forward to getting farther along & hopefully I'll have lots more to share for next month's video :)
@@orbalology I do just want to mention that the beginning of the game is for some reason INSANELY difficult and also really not all that good. once you clear the first dungeon (assuming you haven't yet) the game becomes WAY better. it goes from a 6/10 to a 9/10 immediately. hope you enjoy :)
@@R04D3X I recently made it out of the first dungeon - you're right it is quite brutal. I had to do some soft resets when I was initially forming my team 😂
Oooh good to hear that you’re starting SMT 4! It’d be interesting to hear your thoughts about it after you’ve beaten it, especially about what path you took. I’ve been playing the RE 2 and 3 remakes for PS5 and have been really enjoying my time with it.
The RE games are classic for this time of year, glad to hear you're enjoying the remakes. And I'll be sure to share how my time with SMT IV goes - I'll hopefully be able to make good progress for this month's wrap up :)
I started XB3 this month. I’m 20 hours in (chapter 4) and I’m really digging it. I’ve not played any other Xenoblade game, but I’m finding the combat to be pretty decent. Though it is fairly automatic at times I like that you have so much freedom with building your party. And there’s a good deal of optimization you can do with chain attacks and positioning. I’m definitely looking forward to playing the other games at some point!
Oh nice! Glad to hear you've been enjoying XC3, especially as your first entry in the series!! And I hope you get to try out the previous games, despite their flaws they are still some of my favorite games available on the Switch :)
Cool titles! I'm still somewhat disappointed Alliance Alive never had a physical release in Europe and by the time I found out about the game it had been de-listed off the 3DS eShop. Currently playing through Stella Glow and 7th Dragon III Code VFD (just rolls off the tongue that one) on the 3DS, as well as Shining Resonance Refrain on the Switch and having a blast with all three. Then I intend to finish Monster Hunter Stories 2 and start Radiant Historia, probably some time during Christmas. I have a sizeable backlog to go through, SMT IV, Yokai Watch 3, Dragon Quest VIII, Etrian Odyssey Nexus, Liberation Maiden, Tales of Vesperia, Digimon Cyber Sleuth (and Hacker Memories), Ara Fell and more.
I never realized the Alliance Alive 3DS never got a physical in Europe, I guess it's similar to the SMT IV situation :( But it looks like it got a PEGI physical Switch release so you can maybe try it on there. And your backlog looks awfully like mine 😂 I have a lot of work commitments these next couple months but hoping to get through a lot of games in my backlog during December too.
Yeah, I've seen it and it's on my wishlist, so I'll definitely get it at some point on the Switch. I've noticed you have covered a lot of games that I either really liked or am interested in, which is one of the reasons I like your channel. I'm the same, these next few months at work will be really busy with everything that I need to write, so I'm hoping during Christmas and New Year's holidays to be able to take my time and enjoy all this stuff that is just sitting in my shelves collecting dust.
During the summer I really like playing Yoshi's Island and Boktai 1/2. Yoshi because it's got a nice summer feel and boktai because of the irl benefits to playing in the sun with the s sensor.
I always thought the concept for Botai was really cool. I'm sure finding the original carts are difficult nowadays but I remember the ads or whatnot as a kid and wanting to try out that game. I actually never played a Yoshi game before so I'll need to rectify that in the future.
@@orbalology For boktai there's always carts on ebay but prices are ridiculous these days unfortunately. If you're interested in Yoshi games I'm pretty sure the first one is on NSO. Do you think you'll play a more traditional horror game like RE for October?
I don't own many horror games apart from some survival horror games like Bioshock & RE4. I may try to pull those out closer to Halloween but I'm thinking my month's lineup may be already too full 😅
I really enjoyed The Alliance Alive - I was kind of surprised I did, actually, mostly because the battle system initially did NOT seem like it would be my thing. It's reminiscent of the SaGa series to me, and that has been one I've always struggled to get into. But surprisingly, I ended up loving it! You're right about the lack of voice acting being kind of a bummer... I had a shred of hope that maybe they'd add it for the console remaster, but alas. Great video, looking forward to your collabs and everything else you're working on!
It was really disappointing that they didn't add voice acting for the Alliance Alive HD version. I haven't tried the SaGa games yet but you have me intrigued by the combat comparison. And thank you :)
Really enjoying your content, thanks Emily! The expression of your passion comes across as very genuine & unpretentious. Hope you enjoy making videos as much as i enjoy watching. Looking forward to your Switch JRPG retrospective.

Great video! Mostly, I've been playing Trails From Zero since it's release. Fun game with a very immersive storyline. I've also been playing through Luigi's Mansion 3 and SMT IV Apocalypse for the spooky October vibes!
I really like the idea you mentioned at the end for the jrpgs on switch video. Very much looking forward to it (and other consoles too if you end up doing more!). I love JRPGs but I havent played nearly enough of them so it’ll be great for recommendations!
I definitely just play what’s new release mixed with my backlog. I finished XC3 recently and have been chugging away at Persona 5 Royal, both outstanding games.
Glad to hear you also enjoyed XC3! I really want to try the Persona games at some point and will probably end up grabbing P5R on the Switch eventually 😅
I think you will really enjoy the modern Persona trilogy after seeing your interests in JRPGs as well as visual novels. They are all really good and utilize a version of the SMT press turn battle system, so since you enjoyed Devil Survivor I'm betting you'll love them.
@@thedecembomber I'm really looking forward to trying out the Persona games! I have P4G ready to go on my Vita so I'm thinking of starting that one soon after I complete the games I currently have on my plate.
I beat XBC 3 too and felt the first half was a pilgrimage and the second half really got deep into the story. Monolith Soft one of my favorite developers and it was another hit for me. Playing Luigi's Mansion 2 now for my halloween game.
Monolith Soft has worked on so many great titles, I'm excited for their next projects. And nice - Luigi's Mansion games are prefect for this time of the year.
I am always playing many games at a time but that does not seem to work in the end for me. I am trying to get more organized with games and stick to one until finished. It has given me some results in the last few months. I still try other games to see what I'll be playing next (I think I will focues on Tails of Arise now). Though these games are so time consuming that I am lucky to beat one in a month. With that said, I went crazy last week and beat Zero no Kiseki in 8 days :). Speaking of SMT, I geat TMS on WiiU a couple of weeks back and I am quite far into Nocturne. Need to get back on track. Another game I "undested" from the vault is Ni No Kuni on PS3, was finally able to make some progress.
I hope your strategy continues to help with your progression! I found focusing on a single game or two at a time helps me finish games as well. And nice about Zero! I have a feeling I'll have a similar engrossment when my Switch copy arrives haha.
@@orbalology I got quite hooked with Zero. In 2021, I played like 20 hours of the chinese version but got stuck. Then I decided to wait for the translated version.
Soul Hackers 2 is on my radar! I'm hoping to pick it up on the cheap - I saw it recently got a price drop & was hoping to snag it on the PS5 for a little bit lower 😅 I also have the 3DS Soul Hackers game so I was wanting to go through that before trying out the new one (even though I hear there aren't too many similarities between the games).
Depends on what you mean by rare. I try to look out for good deals on games I'm interested in but most of the expensive rare games are out of my price range. For those I hope for a future remaster/port some day 😅
@@orbalology i get you like for the 3ds phoenix wright games i believe are pretty expensive and also dragon quest but im really glad theyre are getting remastered for the switch!
This is a tough question. I guess I would recommend XC3 because there are a lot of quality of life improvements & it's easy to get into. But if you appreciate great stories in your JRPGs the first game is a must, or if you prefer having complex but satisfying battle mechanics then the second game. The third game is the happy medium of both of those extremes, so if you're somewhere in the middle the third is the one to go with.
Great video. Lots of RPG goodness. I finishex Bravely Default last month. It was decent but had a lot missed opportunities. For October, I'm trying to do Halloween themed games. I finished Resident Evil Revealtions on 3DS. Great game but absolute awful controls. I'm playing the sequel on the Vita and hopefully I will get one more Halloween themed game after RE:R 2. Maybe Halloween Forever on Vita or Death Mark on Switch. Looking forward to your collab videos. 😁
Oh Bravely Default's on my list! I'll be curious to see how that series evolves over time. One of these days I'll get to them 😂 Oh and lots of spooky games for the month! They remastered RE Revelations on other consoles right? Hopefully they fixed the controls on those systems. The 3DS does a lot of great and unique things, but it still has plenty of limitations 😅
Yeah its on ps4 and switch. The Switch version doesnt have both games on the cart cause capcom is cheap. The new 3DS was an awful way to play it but I got the Japanese version for around $7 so it was kind of a nobrainer. Despite limitations it was still a fun game.
Hey Emily! I found your channel recently and I just wanted to say that I've really been enjoying your videos! We seem to have really similar taste in games and you have such a lovely personality ☺ (also, off topic but I love your style! haha)
Hey Em sorry I missed a couple of your videos my work schedule has been hectic haha 😅 but I hope you’re doing well my friend, good luck on the pickups 😁👍🏽
I've mainly been playing Overwatch 2, Gran Turismo 7(have my issues with this game though), Smash Bros and some Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Looking to get Kirby and Pokemon new gen in November. Would buy Kirby now but I have the Mai Shiranui figure pre-ordered for late this month lol. But I'm looking forward to the new Pokemon and Kirby Forgotten Land :D I should replay some Pokemon Ultra Moon to get my Pokemon fix before then
Oh I'm looking forward to the new Pokemon as well - it'll be interesting to see how the new series direction will translate from what we've seen teased so far. I'm still on the fence whether to buy at launch or not, but I'll get to it eventually. I still need to play Ultra Moon and Sword so maybe it'll be best to wait until I get to those lol
Yeah one of the other reasons why I hesitate getting the new Pokemon at launch is because of the possibility that they'll release a physical with the DLC on the cart next year, similar to what they did for Sword/Shield. Those are totally overpriced but if I wanted to pick up the physical I would prefer having the full game instead of part of the game.
It's great to hear that you are enjoying Shin Megami Tensei IV, it's one of my favorite games of all time and it's nice when others discover it as well. Are you planning on playing Nocturne or Shin Megami Tensei V in the near future? I have yet to play the Xenoblade Chronicles games, but they look very promising and I plan on eventually purchasing all of the games in the series and playing them in chronological order. Last month I obtained the PC version of The Alliance Alive when it was on sale but I still have yet to play it. The game has been recommended to me multiple times before though I have also seen a lot of mixed opinions regarding it online. I'll eventually find out what kind of game it is once I get around to playing it. My backlog is starting to loom over me in a sinister way and I need to work on decreasing its size.
I'm not sure when I'll fit in Nocturne/ SMT V. Probably won't be until sometime next year. I'm also considering trying out Strange Journey Redux after finishing Devil Survivor 2 Overclocked to get a taste of first person dungeon crawler gameplay. I hope you end up enjoying the Xenoblade games & The Alliance Alive!
I bought XC3 on release, but I’m still waiting to play it. I don’t like that the story dlc is not coming out for another year so I want to just wait until everything is out to enjoy the the whole experience at once
Yeah I don't really like how some games drag out the DLC either. However with Xenoblade 2 I ended up playing the DLC and Torna story a few months after completing the main XC2 game. It's a long game so I needed a break and not burn out. Having now finished Xenoblade 3's main story I don't mind waiting for the 4th wave DLC, it's giving me a nice break to play some other games before diving back into the Xenoblade world. But all that said I don't blame you for wanting to wait for it all to release before you start.
@@orbalology I was late to the Xenoblade party. I actually bought a Switch last December specifically for that series. Due to my work schedule, I hadn’t really been gaming much..I think the last game I played prior to getting a Switch was SO First Departure R. Since then, I’ve played XCDE, XC2+Torna, FE3H, DQ11, P5R, P5Strikers (all amazing games), now I’m currently playing Ys 8. XC2/Torna was my favorite out of all of them. The XC games are so long, I’d rather play through story and dlc all at once. If I played through XC3 now, I don’t think I would even be interested in going back for the dlc a year from now
I don’t know how you do to play some many games! I barely finished DQXIS and currently playing samus returns! And my wallet is fear shaking due to persons 5 Royale and Pokémon SV coming 😅 and still doubting about buying bayoneta as I feel like I’ve spent too much September/October (Temtem, new Pokémon snap, DQ8, Pokémon super mistery dungeon, super Mario 3D land and phantom hourglass) plus the two I mentioned before that I’ll buy 😢
Oh that's a lot of games! If you don't think you'll be able to play any of them around release it should be fine to wait. I have a feeling Persona 5 royal will get discounted in December or early next year, since that's been the case with all the recent atlus titles on the switch. And I don't think Bayonetta 3 will be going out of stock any time soon so you should be ok there too.
@@orbalology Im afraid of not getting the steelbook edition, since it says “launch” do you think they’ll have stock for the next months? Regarding bayoneta. I meant bayoneta 1, which was released recently.
@@ernestomorales6091 for smt5 they had the steelbook edition months after release. So I wouldn't be too worried. I'm sure atlus produced a bunch of the launch editions. Oh Bayonetta 1 is apparently going to be limited and I have no idea if Nintendo plans to reprint. I'm seeing that it's out of stock on most retail sites rn. You may want to prioritize that one in that case.
Speaking of mastering combat in XB, I’ve yet to play a XB game where I don’t have to watch a video explaining the nuances of combat 😂 I have LoH trails in the sky and The LoH trilogy for PSP but I’m not familiar with the trails series at all so I have yet to jump into it. Should I get trails from zero and play that first?
So the original Legend of Heroes Trilogy is sort of it's own separate thing from the Trails games. Trails in the Sky FC is a good place to jump in because it kicks off the huge Trails epic, though I haven't played the PSP version myself so I'm not sure if there are some quality of life issues or whatnot. If you want to test out the series starting there should be fine or Zero on the Switch/PC. Zero will have some of those quality of life features & will suck you into the plot a bit quicker than Sky, but you honestly can't go wrong with either imo.
@@psdude5868 The three arcs that have been localized so far (Sky, Crossbell, and Cold Steel) are all interconnected in the same world but you often follow different characters at different time periods. So events that happen in the earlier games greatly influence the events in the later games. There are also a lot of character appearances from the earlier games in the later arcs. But all that said IMO it's ok to start with the first game in any of these arcs, I would just hold off playing Cold Steel 3 & 4 until after you beat the Sky & Crossbell games.
Good question 😂 Tbh I've felt rather slow these past few months, especially since I've been working on three of these particular games since early August. But I guess I try to make a lot of time over the weekends when I don't have as many other commitments that need my attention. It's all a balancing act, the more you spend with one thing it takes away from others😅
Shin Megami... that game make me suffer the first hours, it is unforgiven. I haven't finished it so I provably forgot all I've learnt :( I check look for A Short Hike and it's sold out :(
Constructive criticism.. it really doesn’t take much effort to make yourself a nice background to sit in front of. It’s really hard to take you and that shelf serious. Put some effort in.

I’ve been playing the first Yomawari. Jump scares galore.
If you only had time for one Xenoblade experience, which would it be?
One of these days I'll get to them 😂
Oh and lots of spooky games for the month!
We seem to have really similar taste in games and you have such a lovely personality ☺ (also, off topic but I love your style! haha)
Oh thank you! I'm really glad you found my little corner of the internet - it's always great to find others who share similar tastes hehe 😄
Hey Em sorry I missed a couple of your videos my work schedule has been hectic haha 😅 but I hope you’re doing well my friend, good luck on the pickups 😁👍🏽
Thank you! And no worries! I hope all is going well with you - my work schedule has been crazy as well lately.
But I'm looking forward to the new Pokemon and Kirby Forgotten Land :D
I should replay some Pokemon Ultra Moon to get my Pokemon fix before then
Oh I'm looking forward to the new Pokemon as well - it'll be interesting to see how the new series direction will translate from what we've seen teased so far. I'm still on the fence whether to buy at launch or not, but I'll get to it eventually. I still need to play Ultra Moon and Sword so maybe it'll be best to wait until I get to those lol
I love Ultra Moon! Sword/Shield were decent but it's DLC was really overpriced and should've been in the base game.
@@orbalology I very much hope they don't do what they did with the new games as they did with Scarlet/Violet. The DLC was just not worth it to me.
Alliance Alive has a great music and visuals. Much better on 3dsd I think.
@@orbalology How do trails from zero and trails in the sky relate to the trails from cold steel series (if at all)?
@@psdude5868 The three arcs that have been localized so far (Sky, Crossbell, and Cold Steel) are all interconnected in the same world but you often follow different characters at different time periods. So events that happen in the earlier games greatly influence the events in the later games. There are also a lot of character appearances from the earlier games in the later arcs. But all that said IMO it's ok to start with the first game in any of these arcs, I would just hold off playing Cold Steel 3 & 4 until after you beat the Sky & Crossbell games.
how do you manage your time playing all those games?
Good question 😂 Tbh I've felt rather slow these past few months, especially since I've been working on three of these particular games since early August. But I guess I try to make a lot of time over the weekends when I don't have as many other commitments that need my attention. It's all a balancing act, the more you spend with one thing it takes away from others😅
@@orbalology And also... any updates on your Instagram account?
lol I keep procrastinating/forgetting to post, I'm really not that great with the social media thing 😅
Shin Megami... that game make me suffer the first hours, it is unforgiven. I haven't finished it so I provably forgot all I've learnt :( I check look for A Short Hike and it's sold out :(
SMTIV is pretty brutal in the beginning! I'll admit that I did a couple soft resets when initially forming my party in the first dungeon 😅
Constructive criticism.. it really doesn’t take much effort to make yourself a nice background to sit in front of. It’s really hard to take you and that shelf serious. Put some effort in.
