Just a guess but with Vardys injuries last year, his goals scoring record per minute is probably better than Ronaldo's 🤷♂️

Vardy 15 goals, 2 assists
This season both have only got 2 assists yet Welbeck is playing in an overachieving Brighton where Vardy is playing in a struggling Leicester.
If we’re talking out and out striker which is primarily what a number 9 is, then Vardy is clear regardless of the slow start this season.

@sae I wouldn't say Welbeck is 'still doing it'. He hasn't been 'doing it' for a while if you're looking at goals. The job of a striker, is to score goals. Yes you have strikers that can track back and be more involved with link up play etc but their primary job is to put the ball in the back of the net. If we're talking about here and now then both are probably on par with each other due to having 0 goals in 7 games, but Vardy is playing in a struggling side atm whereas Welbeck is in a flying Brighton team like people have already mentioned. If we look back at each season and even their premier league totals, Vardy is miles clear of Welbeck.
Overall totals:
Welbeck: 56 goals & 28 assists in 280 games
Vardy: 133 goals & 42 assists in 277 games
Also remember that Welbeck has had so much more time in the premier league than Vardy has. Welbeck started regularly playing games in the premier league in the 2010/11 season when he was 19/20 years old. Vardy didn't even hit the premier league until 2014/15 when he was 27 years old, and that was when Leicester just survived being relegated.
Welbeck has NEVER hit double figures in any season he has played in the premier league. He played 30 games for Man Utd in the 2011/12 season and scored 9. The following season he scored 1 goal in 27 games (although 14 of those were off the bench - for a striker you should still expect more).
Vardy has hit double figures in every season since 2015/16. In every season since 2015/16, he's scored 15+ goals in the premier league except for one season which he scored 13 (in the 2016/17 season which we struggled battling relegation again).
Vardy also has 4 POTM awards, 1 Golden Boot (which he got at the age of 33), 1 POTS award, 1 GOTM award.
If you look at Welbeck and look at the teams he's played in... Man Utd & Arsenal for majority of his career, you'd expect him to have so many more goals than he has.
Even if you use the argument of Welbeck links play up more than Vardy does and doesn't always stay in and around the box etc. Vardy's assists compared to Welbeck's is still better. Even big chances created... Welbeck has 33 big chances created compared to Vardy's 62.
I don't think it's even a debate... Vardy is extremely underrated and under-appreciated by anyone who isn't a Leicester fan and has seen him play. Even for England he was under-utilised, not saying he would've gotten us further in tournaments because at that time the whole team wasn't great but at that time, it gave us a different option to attack and at the time, Vardy was arguably the best player in the world at doing what he did (sitting on shoulders, running in behind, pushing defenders back to create space for everyone else etc).

No one claims Welbeck is a goal scorer because he simply isn’t. Watch him at Brighton and just look at the numbers for the other attacking players there. Trossard on 5, MacAllister on 4 and Groß on 3. He was a key point in the build up for a majority of their goals. Wether it be assists, key passes or splitting defences with runs. He is Brightons most talented attacker and it shows on the pitch. Stats are a poor reflection of his raw ability

As a Utd fan i have a soft spot for Welbeck but C is absolutely his level. Maybe even lower considering some of the picks these two made. Welbeck has never managed double figures in the prem, he's injured too often and has never been a particularly clinical striker. How rory think he belongs in the B tier is beggars belief.
There's absolutely NO WAY Welbeck should even be a "D" let alone a C! He should be in "E"!! He has yet to score from 7 starts he's only scored 6 last season and 6 the season before in 25+ games per season. It's the same person that put Solanke in D with 5 goals in 69 matches in the PL. With Welbeck in C (7 matches - 0 goals. He does have 3 assists, so D for me).
And Rory wanted to put Núñez IN E. Darwin would slide into any team, except City because they have Haaland, Arsenal because of Gabriel Jesus's form and Liverpool's because of Firmino's current form.
And one of Rory's complaints was that he lost his head against Andersen (Andersen was targeting him all match and playing dirty, even though that's not an excuse as he still lost his head) and that puts him down possibly 4 tiers? All the players in this list have experience in the PL with one exception, Haaland. Darwin is fresh from a different league, is very young and doesn't have game time enough to actually show (England) how good he is. Time will tell.
Haaland is in the same boat, but he is a monster. Can't compare him to anybody.
