Rest in Peace Randy Rhoads, 42 years ago today. Rest in Peace Delores Rhoads. Thank you again for being so kind to us teenagers that ditched school to be there with you at Randy's gravesite, March 19th 1985.

I've played that piano many, many times. I was one of Delores Rhoads' student for several years.

Yes, I was indeed her student. After a while I stopped asking her Randy questions because I remember several times i asked her a Randy related question, her 'allergies' would flare up and she went through several tissues to wipe her eyes. I got the hint. She never got over his death. As a teacher she was very, very strict. If you didn't play it right, she stopped you and you started again. One time I was playing a Bach minuet and totally butchered it. I turned around and told her that, "I played the jazz version". She was not amused. As far as that piano goes, it has one key missing. It has only 87 keys not 88. The action is also very light and it sounds really pristine.

I’ve been a guitar instructor on the side for over 30 years and while there was a 15 year period where I thought the guitar was dead, it’s slowly coming back.
Social media and phones hurt the guitar but because of those things the kids are discovering people like Randy Rhoads.
The golden age of guitar is gone but it will get better than what it has been.

Randy's family should've inherited his Publishing Royalties. Perhaps the Osbournes f'ck'd Randy out of his money like they did everyone else.
People should boycott the Osbournes. ...evil nasty people.

@the English gentleman 001 They do it for him because without him,Ozzy would have been a fat lounge singer in Vegas in the 80's ! If they had any decency, they would provide the funding for restoring Musonia as a fitting tribute to Randy since they screwed the family out of everything else. Without that guitar sound, those albums are nothing!

I had the privilege of seeing Randy live just a few months before he passed. His death was substantial to me. Not because of his musicianship, but because a talented young life was tragically cut short. The world saw his skill like a shooting star. Had he survived, we would have witnessed his constellation.

I visited Musonia many years ago - early nineties - during a holiday to California (from Canada). I was worried that we might be interrupting a lesson or something, but Mrs. Rhoads spent time with us, showed us around and gave me a note from a Musonia notepad with her number on it and said "... if I was ever in the Los Angeles area again to give her a call." I was amazed at her grace and kindness. I've kept it and will always treasure it. Kelle and Kathy, you do your Mom and Randy such great honour. I can't imagine what you've had to deal with. God bless you both.

When i was 15, i knew i wanted to be a drum instructor when i got older. I started playing when i was 10, in 1977. I had my own teaching studio for 19 years until the pandemic shut me down.
His picture was on the studio wall all that time.
Be mindful of how you treat and influence people. If you do right, you'll be a source of encouragement for someone. It's all Randy's fault that I became an instructor. 😊🎉

Kathy is a spitting image of Randy - she could easily pass as his twin sister!! And, it's so sweet, yet so sad that she put the guitar down after his death. Such a loving sister...and wife! You hardly hear of marriages lasting as long as her's anymore! Well, except for my parents, LOL!!! If I lived in CA, I would drop by and enroll in Musonia in a heartbeat (even though I already know how to play, _but learning never ends)!!_
I absolutely had to come back and amend my comment, because when Kelle said that Kathy has "RRSIS" as her license plate, my eyes watered up. What a sweet, beautiful and loving sister she is for her to, not only maintain his memory, but to show her undying love for him that goes down to her core!! I wish I had such a wonderful sister. I have two, but for idiotically spiteful and petty reasons (on their part, not mine) we haven't talked much, maybe two or three times, in the past 17 - 20 years!! And one was at a friggin' funeral!! I have to admit, I'm envious of Randy in that regard!! God bless your family, Kelle and Kathy!!❤️

Sadly, there are not any high quality live video recordings of Randy with Ozzy. There are some out there and it still sounds good but it's just sad that back in the early 80s, you just didn't get things recorded like you do now.

    • @mbass718
      @mbass718 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@saltykrug Actually what's the saddest part of all this and how little there is to see of Randy is this... It's a freakin FACT that Sharon had parts of the Diary tour with Randy professionally filmed. A bunch of shows. Yet after all these years Sharon still hasn't done Jack shit to put even just one show out. If it wasn't for Randy let's face it... Ozzy's career would have been Dead... along with Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake. I'm not gonna go all on about it but it's disgusting and despicable that they just sit on clear footage of Randy. Bob has a lot of stuff too ..The Holy Grail.. great recordings and films of Randy writing the songs, composing, jamming, in concert and joking around....but Sharon literally offered him peanuts for the entire treasure trove of material..real historical stuff that'll be a miracle if we ever see. Bob turned her down rightfully but it's sad cause he has a goldmine. Sharon hates Bob Daisley more than she cares about putting out a film, recordings, and concerts with Randy. It's such BS and shameful... unfortunately Sharon has no shame though...or morals and values.

I was able to go to Musonia a couple of times. Had a very nice talk with Mrs. Rhoads who was amazing, and the second time I kind of showed up and Kelle couldn't have been nicer. He gave me a tour and talked to me and answered all kinds of questions. I do get that at some point it must be tiring to just have people show up or call and ask alot of the same questions. But it comes from a good place. It would be nice to have Musonia, if financially possible, be set up as a Museum and school and have paid tours or something. not just Randy but so many big names have been thru there and it has to be an iconic building at 71 years.

Randy was a musical genius and his legacy should’ve continued with this music school. Sad Ozzy who is worth millions can’t donate to keep this school a float.

WOW, what a great documentary! Thank you to all involved! I had the privelege of seeing the initial 'Blizzard Of Ozz' tour at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey 'back in the day', and being 3 rows back from Randy was a treat I will always remember!

Thank you Kelle and Kathy, for sharing such private memories about your brother Randy and your Mom, Delores.
Classical music certainly is a common bond I have with you and your family. And yes, there are many great lesser known composers. My CD collection has many of them!
I loved Randy's playing. I think Kelle is a wonderful musician and I look forward to checking out the recordings by him that were mentioned in this clip.
Kathy, you remind me so much of Randy! I too, would think that Randy would love to see you playing an instrument and enjoying it. However, I also understand the way you feel in regards to your brother. I'm sure that he would just want the both of you to be happy and enjoy life.
    Respect and regards,
    Ken M.

When I first heard Rany Rhoads, it was in the summer of 90 or 91. I heard Tribute for the first time and was blown away by his live songs. I bought Blizzard and Diary but Loved Randy's live songs even more. I wish I could have seen him live. I don't like live albums but Randy was the only guitarist I loved hearing live and that's rare. Now as I'm older, it's a shame how such beautiful music is fading away along with our morals and values in this country. It is our duty to preserve those things. Look at our current generation, and I have kids, but todays kids are just morons glued to their phones, Xboxes. Todays music is so horrible with this garbage rap music dominating the airwaves. It makes me sad and nostalgic to see this video and hear Kelle talk about how many students that house once taught, only to walk through it and see pictures of an era long passed by, if only those walls could talk. This video was very haunting. I still love Randy Rhoads and I'm glad to hear his songs still being played from time to time.

Pretty ignorant of you to suggest younger people don't care about his music because of video games. I'm 27 and had my first video game system before hearing rock, but when I heard his two albums (and Bark At The Moon) at 6 they stuck with me to such an extent that I'm still to this day learning songs of his that I've always loved.
Even evaluating my own writing, I've realized recently that I got a lot of things I do from Randy, the memories of how cool his sounds were staying with me from being a little boy.

Great interview and many thanks for sharing, I considered Randy Rhoades a true American guitar hero as well as a absolutely brilliant classical trained guitarist, It is not that I considered him being the greatest but I loved his style of playing and I couldn't hardly believe it when news of his tragic death was confirmed so many years ago, I was at work when I heard and I was just instantly depressed hearing that news, taken far too soon, One can only imagine how much success he would have gained in his career if he would have lived, I respected him so very much. I have always felt before his death there was never that much interest even after he joined Ozzy, at least that is how I saw it at the time and of course his death turned him into a icon but his playing always had that subtle iconic thing about it, I remember thinking, wow this guy is a guitarist's guitarist, I mean I really like Eddie VH but Randy was in my opinion so much more and yet he seemed so modest.

I love the guys at the Metal Voice are respectful of the Rhoads legacy and towards the family. I got to meet Kelle last August, I had booked a tour at Musonia, I get there and he is sitting out front, all cut up, he had fallen the night before and could barely walk. i offered to cancel, and he absolutely refused to let me cancel, He used a cane to get around. It was an incredible experience, it is surreal being there. He gave me an hour and probably more if I did not have to leave. I highly recommend people visit the Musoni and of course the Rhoads crypt at Mt VIew Cemetary.
I wonder what they will do for the 40th anniversary of that horrible day.
