Read the court case and just to be fair.... The girl sent him a friend request. They began to chat everyday and for months on social media before they met. She lied and told him she was 16. The first caller is apparently in favour of "Christian" values...
That in and of itself is problematic... Whereas (perhaps) not all Christians can be viewed as suspect, their thinking is skewed already by the avid belief in some man-made deity, let alone thinking that paedophilia is something to be ignored, considering the _minor_ prison term served, which _should be and is_ considered by most, as completely inadequate.
His post-prison work-life (to save our taxes being squandered to aid his foul existence), needs to be monitored carefully and exactly to avoid any further access to children...
(Perhaps mining under the sea*...?!) Apologies* for that seemingly flippant remark but, _where and what_ ought he be allowed to do to maintain his existence where his contact with any under-age children will be denied to him?
I have not been in the workforce for awhile due to my disabilities and retirement, so am not au fait with current work practices, but clearly representing any country in competition is abhorrent to most (if not the majority, surely?) sports fans, and wherever _he_ is _must not be_ where _children may also be_ eg. in the Olympic Village etc.
Let him play volleyball - or whatever _proper sport_ he plays - in his own back yard, with his own adult companions, if he has any, but not on the world stage trying to ingratiate himself with the attempt to win medals and prestige amongst those who might view his fervour for his sport as admirable and / or worth following, by those too young to know his history or his fantasies and his true nature.
_If_ he can be changed from what he _is_ and what he did, into a 'normal' decent person (by whichever means?) then let that happen where he will not succumb to backwards thinking and / or actions.
If he cannot be rehabilitated into 'normal decent living standards' he ought:
      a) _not_ be allowed to compete, as I said earlier, and
      b) just not be allowed any job where he could repeat his foul behaviours.

That first caller needs to be behind bars himself. He's a threat to civilised society. The girl has indefinite suffering, why shouldn't he? The crime being discussed is worthy of death penalty in my book. A society that gives 1 year prison time for that kind of horror is animalistic.

He was a volleyball player before his horrendous crime. He was convicted in Britain, BUT under the Dutch law they asked the British if he could continue his sentence in the country he was born in. So instead of ra** charges it was changed to "fornication" in his country! CRAZY but that is what was decided. He is now married with a two year old son.

Sport is a type of entertainment. Athletes are celebrities. The Dutch declared that a 20 year old (6 days removed) sleeping with a 12 year old is fine. The French likely don't mind either. I mean they have been harboring Roman Polanski all these decades so...

The Dutch Olympic Committee is to blame. That they thought this was ok just proves how disgustingly corrupt the Olympic Games are. And the ceremony yesterday, the worst I have ever seen. Boooooring. I am sure these are the last Olympic Games we’ll see.

    1st caller says:
    1. "That we have to presume that the guy had learned his lesson. And if truly has not learned his lesson, then he doesn't belong out of prison, clearly"....So, how does the caller suggest that we find out if he has learned his lesson? How many offenders have been released out of prison to go and commit the exact same offense?
    2. "He may have kids, of his own, I don't know..."...How is having kids of your own an indication that you have learned your lesson? Frankly, I'd be more concerned for the kids

That first caller was so disturbing to listen to. Yes, he has paid his debt to justice. That’s gone, fair or unfair that was already decided by our justice system. As the moderator said, this is a moral question, even philosophical. Representing your country at the most important sports event is a privilege, not a right. Is that right not withdrawn from someone who committed such a heinous act? Even if they have the talent, can they represent the country? This is about the symbolism, the message being sent!

"Putting children at risk" is not a valid argument.
Yes, he will do that in the olympic village, sure. But he will do that whereever he is. If he stays at home, he will be putting the neighbours' kids at risk.
The man has to be somewhere.
"He has served his time" arguments are not valid.
Just because you are no longer in prison, you can still face repercussions of your actions. Every person in a place to make a decision on the matter, can make the decision to exclude him from anything, if they believe his actions warrant it.
Actions have consequences, legally and socially.
Role model arguments are absolutely valid.
