    I bought a grip strengthener, used it for two weeks, and it has helped immensely. I have not yet tried shrugging or hanging, but I will. I found this video to be super helpful!

      @@LONGLIVEPOU they’re better. I have to stay consistent. I stopped using the grips the last month because I transitioned to a bench press. When I’m using the grips consistently I know my wrists are more stable and hurt less. Wearing a wrist guard while typing also reduced my symptoms dramatically. Overall my wrists hurt less and I’m less worried about it. I just needed to be stronger

    Finally, a positive video about strengthening muscles to avoid symptoms. All the videos I have seen up until now have been about stretching and inevitably having to get surgery. I did 3 hours of aggressive hand hewing with an ax and my hands went numb for 2 days. 5 days later, most of the soreness is gone, but my left index and thumb are still numb. I am starting these exercises now.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy

      Hey Jeffery, we’re so sorry to hear that you’ve been struggling with numbness in your hands after your work! That must be frustrating since you are used to doing a lot.
      Thank you for your kind words about our video. We’re glad you found the focus on strengthening muscles helpful. It’s great to hear that most of the soreness has calmed down, and we hope the exercises help with the remaining numbness in your index and thumb.
      Stay positive and keep up with the exercises-you’ve got this! 💪🏽🙌🏽 Keep us posted on your progress!

    I have to say.. You are awesome!! The doctor I saw for my carpal tunnel. Didn’t say anything about strengthening these muscles. He told me to get the nerve test, and we’ll do surgery. You must be one of the only ones giving out that information.

    Now I know why ice packs on my neck to shoulder area helped relieve my hand pain. You've put together all the pieces so they make sense. I've seen a spine doctor, Orthopedic doctor, and my regular GP. IT's like three blind people all touching an elephant in different spots and having different opinions of what they "see". Funny really. I'm still the responsible one deciding what is right for me. Keep up the wonderful work that you do!

    Thank you for giving clear explanations! You are one of the few that talks about finding the all important root cause. I knew there had to be something at that level to address the problem. I’ve been to three different hand specialists and they all said surgery. My PC suggested not as he’s seen a lot of people that were worse off after the surgery. You offer the best solution. Yes, I have bad nerve conduction study, but one steroid shot has almost cleared it up. Adding the “correct” exercises will only improve my chances of not needing a harsh surgery. Thank you!

    After seeing this video I think I understand why I have occasional arm weakness. Occasionally when I'm very busy in the kitchen I feel sudden onset of weakness in both arms, as if there's a wave of numbness that starts in the shoulders and travels quickly to my wrists. It lasts no more than a minute or so, but is disconcerting. I thought it might be postural, but this helps confirm. Bending over the sink and countertops for long periods is what always triggers it. I will now be more aware of my posture and will take mini breaks to stretch and lift.
    Thanks also for exercises, as my dominant left hand, which has been prone to numbness, has recently gotten much worse.

Its just smth like do an exercise then shake it off or smth with your hands quickly, well not just the hands the shaking begins even with arms ---(hope u understand what i mean, like if smth nasty lands on u and u want to get it off as quick as possible). does it really got any effect on what we r doing here please?

    How long should we do it for? Does it really have to be hourly?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lama, No it doesn't have to be hourly but if you can try to it would be helpful. Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.

  • @onepartyroule
    @onepartyroule 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I figured out pretty quickly that the wrist stretching was not helping, and that having my hand rest flat on my torso during the night helped (not curled inwards or streched outwards). I'm also finding that massage helps, and I usually let the hand and wrist go a bit limp as I massage the palm, knuckle joints and wrist.

I was doing physical therapy and was told if i had carpal tunnel i would not have been able to do have the exercises. And most of htem really do not cause pain and I never have numbness. More like dull aching and it radiates if its bad. Bottom right of palm below thumb. Finkelstein test causes no pain

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey there! So, a stress ball is good for keeping your hand muscles moving, but if you're looking to get stronger, a grip strength trainer is your go-to. It's like leveling up - you can adjust the resistance as your muscles get mightier. So, both are good, but the grip strength trainer gives you that extra oomph to build serious strength! 🏋️‍♂️🤲

      Hey Julia! We are so grateful for your feedback and we hope that the exercises make a difference in improving your carpal tunnel. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing lightheadedness when hanging for a few seconds, We can't really say what is causing that but we would suggest spending time on the exercises that you do find to be beneficial and safe. 😄

    Thank you again for these great videos! I have ordered the grip strengthener which will be here shortly. In the mean time, can I use a Yoga therapy ball or is it just better to wait a few days?

      Hi P.P.G Szendi, were so sorry that you are experiencing such pain. We would recommend doing, if you are able, to do the grip strengthening, but aside from that shoulder shrugs will also help!

      Hi Hadia, That's a good question. It can be but it can also be due to osteoporosis arthritis in the wrist.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Is carpal tunnel pain developing a ball like bone on the side of the wrist when over using hand/arm??
    Do you have a program for this? Or will these exercises be enough???

    I’ve been using the grip strengthener for about a week now. Wrist pain and hand strength is getting better, but now my hand muscles are tightening up. Getting so tight I can’t make a fist. Any thoughts?

      Hi Sportsboy, we're so sorry that you've been dealing with carpal tunnel issues. What you're describing is very common with carpal tunnel. However, we couldn't say for certain what is causing your limited range of motion in the hand without performing a proper consultation. There are various reasons why this could be happening.
      Tightening of hand muscles in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can occur due to compression of the median nerve, leading to symptoms like pain, tingling, and weakness. Muscle spasms, compensatory movements, reduced blood flow, inflammation, and chronic stress can all contribute to muscle tightness.
      We do have a carpal tunnel help playlist that could be beneficial. You can access it here:

      Just a little update. Been upping the tension slightly as the first setting was starting to get easy. Wrist not in pain but finding it sore. Depending how I move my hand, grip something, push or pull, I feel the soreness over the back and front of wrist. Sometimes along the side of forearm by the thumb. Top of wrist through forearm getting a little tight. I do find that right after using grip strengthener my palm tightness goes away but slowly returns.
      Big golfer so just trying to swing a club my wrists feel too weak to hold it at the top of my swing

    Did some nerve flossing yesterday and got a flare up. Pretty confusing that people are recomending such different things. 😢 I wonder why is it that a nerve feels tight? Is it just due to compression somewhere along the nerve ? Since every body is saying that nerves dont strech very well.

      Hey Axel! We are so sorry to hear that you had a flare-up after doing some nerve flossing for your carpal tunnel. We understand how frustrating it can be with all the information that is out there. It can be overwhelming and oftentimes contradictory. One thing to consider is that at El Paso Manual Physical Therapy we specialize in helping people avoid unnecessary injections & surgery. Also, everyone's body composition is different so what works for one person may not work for another. What's important is finding options that work for you as you know your body better than anyone. In order to find a solution you may need to try different techniques and exercises that you find beneficial.
      Here is a video that we strongly believe that you are likely to find beneficial:

    Hello,
    thank you so much for this video, it was really helpful ... I have just one question.
    Q: I have RING Grip Strengthener and I would like to ask you If it does the same effect as yours that you recommended.
    (to strengthen muscles to lift ligament at carpal area, etc.)
    Thank you.
