I think he does explain a portion of that with his Why Noone Plays. In certain videos like the one for Taliyah, he specifies all the strong aspects of her throughout the video, which I can validate because I main her. But I think some things can still be said about certain characters...
Morgana probably would be on this list since she's not really mained by many people, and is instead used as pocket/flez pick for both mid and supp in niche counter matchups

He hits you with all his free stats, if he's winning he chases you with spin and kills you, if he's losing he spins away and heals back to full. Riot has lost their design principles over the years, they used to talk a lot about hidden power, now they release crap like Akshan that has a million things going in the background while in game you are just right clicking people.

Ive been playing him consistently since he was released and I have about 115k points on him and I can agree that needing knowledge of every champ's abilities is something that made me want to play him. If you can play everyone average, you can play viego well, and when you get your main possessed, it's extra fun
What I loved was I never could’ve find a main, I was good at almost every champ in the game (as far as the ones I played) but I never settled down on one, but when Viego came out I loved that he allowed me to essentially play any champ I wanted and show off my versatile skills on different champs which is super fun
Same here, i was going around playing literally everything because i got bored of each champ so fast, so i never went above 35 games with a single champ. But then i played viego and for the first time ever i actually played 50 games where 80% was with the same champ. Hes also just the right mix of expressive and easy, not to mention all the times i could cheese someone in toplane before he became popular as a laner. Good times haha
I *think* I can handle playing any champion, but Viego lets me do a kinda makeshift combo then I can switch back If I were to describe it, for a few seconds you just pretend you know what you’re doing, then switch back to what you’re certain you know
Viego would be fine... except he embodies the feast or famine playstyle to the max. Not only is the enemy viego much better than the viego on your team, he also plays your own Champs better than you.
I honestly picked him up and forced myself to learn him because hes The Ruined King. That alone made me feel powerful, and now because of the event i feel bad about what they did to him (and all other champs who were featured, but thats not the point).
Here is what I've noticed: Ever since Kayn, the core reason a champion is 200 years, is adaptability. Their kits let them adapt far better to any team, and Viego exemplifies this.
I don't follow the pools or the community here, so to see this series back after a while whas a surprise to be sure, but a really welcome one :^) looking forward to more :^D
I played a lot of viego when I didn't know who to play. And honestly viego is the perfect guy for that scenario. If you don't know what champion to play? Play viego, and the enemy picks the champions for you to play as
I would like Viego and his kit....if he wasn't Ruined King. When somebody says Ruined King I would imagine ''Raid boss''' type of champion and not hot e-boy Assassin champion.
I think everyone expected the Ruined King to be a WoW Lich King/Diablo Skeleton King type, I was very surprised with what we ended up getting. I think it's cool, personally. He's a very different kind of villain.

@@egor6946 I still play him in lane, you have to play him differently from what he used to though, I don't go for aggressive runes, I go with Doran Shield and Second Wind etc, it really allows you to power through the early game and gets you to your vamp scepter and life is good. Just have to be patient early, can't just trade over and over and regen like he used to

I’m a grandmasters viego main mid, I’ve stuck with him even when they shifted him to jungle .3% pick rate mid now, he had a lot of difficult lanes but that’s kinda what’s so fun about him! I’m learning new stuff a lot of games perfecting my mechanics and have to try really hard macro wise since Viegos laning generally is bad
I'm a silver viego main mid, can you give me some tips? Right now, with the current meta I just can't seem to win against mages who just poke me to oblivion and can't reach them because of a spammable cc
T1 Oner's Viego vs 4 members of G2 demonstrates the crazy and overloaded potential that Viego really has. He pretty much solo killed 3 of their members through resetting with their non-ultimate abilities and forced their top lane to flash away.
Damn, I can remember the videos on his release "Highest Skill Cap in the Game" etc. I was flamed and personally attacked to death when I picked him up but lemme tell you, release Viego, I never had such a high WR in my life. I was one of the first to reach lvl 7 on him as well
Viego is the exact opossite of Yi (for example). Yi has Q and W to get him self a kill first so he can reset after and it all over. Kata is the same her base kit is really good for killing people. Viego is different. He has low mobility compaired to champs like him and has no means other than his R to dodge CC. His only CC is really slow to cast and predictable. Viego's whole idea is he need one enemy to die in order to take over. If he gets focused down (somethis far easyer to do than focusing down a Yi or Kata that can become untargetable or blink all over) he then becomes very simple to counter
One thing I like about Viego is, he can actually be fun to play against too. It really adds some spice to the game, when you have to play around your own teammates, except they're trying to kill you. You need some decent knowledge to play correctly against a good Viego.
After the nerfs he became one of the only balanced champs in the game lol, he's really really squishy and you have to pick the right champions to transform, and his early game is complete dogcrap, you invade him and there's no game If you become the 0/54 caitlyn with 6 rejuvenation beads you'll just be exploded
I really like Viego, but not for his possession mechanic, I just think his base kit is really fun. The double-auto mechanic feels great. His ult is also cool, and the reset is satisfying, but you could give him like Wukong's passive and ult and I'd still play him
Maybe I'm bias but, I always thought the steal your champ mechanic should've gone to a dark support, especially since they can make the base kit weak as a dual lane
Better, make him an adc. They already want him to work with bork, bork is a DPS item. Put it on a class intended to do DPS. You could use the exact same passive and reset mechanic on ult, just make him ranged, remove the double-hit part of his q, and give him a different w

he is fine as he is, theres an incredible long list of champs that counters him, also with the meta focusingg more on tanks is getting more difficult to get the pasive going if you are behind because is more likely that you will be dead before them
@@Waxotoo actually he is, he cant do anything while untargetable, and more often than not you can time his transformation to get him ungarded, his winrate says everything, just le ARN to play against him
I swear I'm getting fizz flashbacks where the people complaining about a "broken champ" legit just don't know how to play against them. Viego is so insanely situational and his untargetability makes it super obvious where he'll be once it's over. As long as you don't ignore him and let him do what he wants he's pretty managable which is the case with over half the champions in the game.

Regardless of any nerfs will find every way to remove any weakness as his kit is just that overloaded in terms of scaling, effects and conditions.
A good nerf will be first to his damage and second giving him either a cooldown on his passive or giving him some kind of "fury" or anger meter like shyvana and tryndamere since he doesn't use mana OR energy. There are ways to nerf him, yes he'll always be overloaded but not broken
I play league since seasson 2 and for all those years the only champs i wish where never released are : Kayn, Yuumi and viego in no particular order. I just feel these champions make the game worst without adding much in return
I would go all the way back to Ezreal since he kickstarted the mobility creep in the game. Now released champions have to have dashes and move speed and wall jumps just to stay relevant.
What I hate the most about viego is how a mediocre one can just use the souls he posses as a heal and ult reset mechanic, yes he loses a ton of power but even doing so he is a good champion. I really dislike him but I agree he is fun to play, ever since he got released I called him "Katarina with more steps but really safe" and I think it still holds on to that.
His issues are none of that. If anything, he needs to be forced into building crit assassin builds instead of this current bullshit divine sunderer meta.

10:38 I would say it's not optimal By hitting 2 autos after W, u "lose cooldown" on Q. By doing just 1 auto after W, You guarantee your Q land from stun, and get the Q cooldown to start faster.
I’m honestly curious as to why everyone plays graves, his kit doesn’t feel that special or like “complicated” like Viego. He certainly feels like a simple champion, like he doesn’t have the empowered mechanic of kha zix or the execute and taking over bodies of viego, he seems to be a champion that is just pure damage and maybe that’s why ?
because he can literally 1 shot champs with his auto attack with a few items, have you never played him? mess around on him next time he comes up on free rotation in a custom game or something, it's INSANE you can solo baron way before 20mins with a little bit of life steal lol and if you can hit people with all the bullets with a decent amount of crit& AD(esp if you've got lethality/armor pen) it's like a guarenteed 1 shot.

Okay. Using the Darkus arena theme was a masterful idea! Holy fucking shit it suits him so good! Aside the me fanboying bakugan music, even i gave in to the power of Viego. And even to this day i still play him. Though now i might as well use him with the Darkus arena theme.
I think a good way to fix his 200 years while also keeping his identity is to force him to be that champion when he possesses for a period of time, let's say 4 seconds That way, he cannot just use vessels for heals since he'd be stuck for some time, so he has to utilise all the tools in that champs kit before he could jump out and continue
@@LomboLombinho I think he means the lockout should be longer. Basically forcing him to choose the right target for the right moment or completely int. It's a good idea. Right now picking a soul is never bad really, but by forcing him to stay longer, picking a bad possession could instathrow a fight.
I actually think Viego is a farely balanced champion. He balances the game, where, if you play an op champion, he can turn that against you. And he also has disadvantages, like you said, he is terrible at defense. Playing with Viego is a lot of fun, but playing against him isnt that bad either. You can outplay him if you engage first.
I wish he was *actually* high risk high reward but these days he just builds bruiser items which removes half the risk in playing him; that being how he's supposedly a squishy assassin but as we can see he doesn't really live up to that. All he has to do is do enough damage with an ally or two to get one reset and the fight is pretty much over.
I think Viego is like Darius in the sense that if the enemy team consistently spaces well and doesn’t give Viego a chance to go in then he’s not very strong, but if one person fucks up then the ball rolls hard with Viego getting his souls and Darius getting Noxian might. Before that all of his abilities are really lack luster and any cc stops him instantly. His camo does make up for it, but you know the general area where is is unlike Ev or Akshan. If there’s a good Morgana or Thresh or a Malz Viego is done for 90% of the time.
I've started trying jungle in bot games and it's way different compared to Smite jungle. I picked Viego as the first jungle character I want to somewhat master. His playstyle is fun and I love his kit. The transform mechanic is super fun lol.
I don’t agree that junglers have the worst game knowledge. I believe it’s the other way around. Playing a laning role only makes you focus on farming and lane management, whereas junglers have to know when to take objectives effectively, and on top of that know where to go and when. It definitely requires a lot of knowledge of how the game works to manage all this seamlessly. And I’m even saying this as a top laner , who is least appreciative of their junglers 😅
I picked up viego on launch, decided to learn other champion to play him even better, I haven't played him in a month, but I can play almost every top and mid laner pretty decently
I just love to enter the jungle and starts to chat "I'LL SEARCH FOR ISOLDE", and everytime someone kills some jungle mob or "steal" my kill i just chat "GIVE MY ISOLDE BACK" I play bad... very bad... but you can't say i dont enter the character mindset.
Onestly, I believe the cd you have to wait before using your ultimate when you take a corpse should be higher, at least 1/1.5 second higher This would really increase his skill level, as one should be more cautious before taking an enemy corpse if that champion is 1/12, as you would be a 1/12 yourself for a long enough time for the enemy team to blow you up That way, you also increase his identity as "a champion that steals others corpses" and not just that of an ult reset-champion

@Keshuel the way you're saying it, it looks like any squishy can't even teamfight because of the damage in the game at the moment The problem would incure if you take the body of an enemy who is far behind (which should theoretically be an easy task), but if you take the body of an enemy who's even or ahead you would be more stimulated to use their body (which is an harder task, but that's the main theme of the champion, using your stronger opponents against their own ally)

I feel like Viego would still be viable even if he didn't get the enemy abilities and items on takedown. Still getting untargetability and heal on takedown and ulti reset
They should make Viego deal the killing blow in order for him to get the soul and all the 200 years bs that comes from it. It's not an incredibly difficult task given his ult is an execution. Giving him free heals and untargetability just for the lulz is bonkers. That way players would actually have to think and save their ults instead of diving head first waiting for their teammates to finish the job. If they want to close the gap with ult, then it's gonna be a little harder to deal the killing blow because someone on your team might accidentally kill the enemy. It feels more interactive that way imo. Right now it's a total mess.
maybe going forward you could shift "why everyone plays" from a focus on popular champs to a form of Q&A style video? Like if someone in the comments or a poll asks 'why are so many people playing [x]' you could talk about them..? This is a good start for that, I genuinely had no idea Viego was a popular champ, he always struck me as too situational, and last thing I had heard his mist camo was pure meme and made the champ undesirable as a jungler...

I recently started practicing JG with him, had a game where one fight I felt absolutely amazing, and yeah playing Viego does kinda discredit it, but it felt cool nonetheless
I just wish he pushed the mist mechanic harder. Maybe make him more Kingly. Lissandra’s “possession” feels more regal to me, and is less problematic as well.
I like the series. It clarifies why the champion are fun to play, but how broken it is. Does fun need to mean overpower always? I hope Riot tries to find a good balance.

I’m a grandmasters viego main mid, I’ve stuck with him even when they shifted him to jungle .3% pick rate mid now, he had a lot of difficult lanes but that’s kinda what’s so fun about him! I’m learning new stuff a lot of games perfecting my mechanics and have to try really hard macro wise since Viegos laning generally is bad

T1 Oner's Viego vs 4 members of G2 demonstrates the crazy and overloaded potential that Viego really has. He pretty much solo killed 3 of their members through resetting with their non-ultimate abilities and forced their top lane to flash away.

Damn, I can remember the videos on his release "Highest Skill Cap in the Game" etc. I was flamed and personally attacked to death when I picked him up but lemme tell you, release Viego, I never had such a high WR in my life. I was one of the first to reach lvl 7 on him as well

Viego is the exact opossite of Yi (for example). Yi has Q and W to get him self a kill first so he can reset after and it all over. Kata is the same her base kit is really good for killing people. Viego is different. He has low mobility compaired to champs like him and has no means other than his R to dodge CC. His only CC is really slow to cast and predictable.
Viego's whole idea is he need one enemy to die in order to take over. If he gets focused down (somethis far easyer to do than focusing down a Yi or Kata that can become untargetable or blink all over) he then becomes very simple to counter
One thing I like about Viego is, he can actually be fun to play against too.
It really adds some spice to the game, when you have to play around your own teammates, except they're trying to kill you.
You need some decent knowledge to play correctly against a good Viego.

I really like Viego, but not for his possession mechanic, I just think his base kit is really fun. The double-auto mechanic feels great. His ult is also cool, and the reset is satisfying, but you could give him like Wukong's passive and ult and I'd still play him
Maybe I'm bias but, I always thought the steal your champ mechanic should've gone to a dark support, especially since they can make the base kit weak as a dual lane

he is fine as he is, theres an incredible long list of champs that counters him, also with the meta focusingg more on tanks is getting more difficult to get the pasive going if you are behind because is more likely that you will be dead before them

@@Waxotoo actually he is, he cant do anything while untargetable, and more often than not you can time his transformation to get him ungarded, his winrate says everything, just le ARN to play against him
I swear I'm getting fizz flashbacks where the people complaining about a "broken champ" legit just don't know how to play against them. Viego is so insanely situational and his untargetability makes it super obvious where he'll be once it's over. As long as you don't ignore him and let him do what he wants he's pretty managable which is the case with over half the champions in the game.

Edit: He can't be nerfed, like you said his weakness will always be nullified by his passive. Regardless of any nerfs will find every way to remove any weakness as his kit is just that overloaded in terms of scaling, effects and conditions.

A good nerf will be first to his damage and second giving him either a cooldown on his passive or giving him some kind of "fury" or anger meter like shyvana and tryndamere since he doesn't use mana OR energy. There are ways to nerf him, yes he'll always be overloaded but not broken
I play league since seasson 2 and for all those years the only champs i wish where never released are : Kayn, Yuumi and viego in no particular order. I just feel these champions make the game worst without adding much in return

I would go all the way back to Ezreal since he kickstarted the mobility creep in the game.
Now released champions have to have dashes and move speed and wall jumps just to stay relevant.

What I hate the most about viego is how a mediocre one can just use the souls he posses as a heal and ult reset mechanic, yes he loses a ton of power but even doing so he is a good champion. I really dislike him but I agree he is fun to play, ever since he got released I called him "Katarina with more steps but really safe" and I think it still holds on to that.

By hitting 2 autos after W, u "lose cooldown" on Q. By doing just 1 auto after W, You guarantee your Q land from stun, and get the Q cooldown to start faster.
I’m honestly curious as to why everyone plays graves, his kit doesn’t feel that special or like “complicated” like Viego. He certainly feels like a simple champion, like he doesn’t have the empowered mechanic of kha zix or the execute and taking over bodies of viego, he seems to be a champion that is just pure damage and maybe that’s why ?
he is a marksman who has 1000 armor from his e he kills you with 1 shot but you can't do the same
because he can literally 1 shot champs with his auto attack with a few items, have you never played him? mess around on him next time he comes up on free rotation in a custom game or something, it's INSANE you can solo baron way before 20mins with a little bit of life steal lol and if you can hit people with all the bullets with a decent amount of crit& AD(esp if you've got lethality/armor pen) it's like a guarenteed 1 shot.
oh yeah like mart said forgot he gets massive armor buffs with his almost 0 cooldown dash at max lvl with a little ability haste

I think a good way to fix his 200 years while also keeping his identity is to force him to be that champion when he possesses for a period of time, let's say 4 seconds
That way, he cannot just use vessels for heals since he'd be stuck for some time, so he has to utilise all the tools in that champs kit before he could jump out and continue
But he is forced to, he has a while to ult after transforming

It's a good idea. Right now picking a soul is never bad really, but by forcing him to stay longer, picking a bad possession could instathrow a fight.

I actually think Viego is a farely balanced champion. He balances the game, where, if you play an op champion, he can turn that against you. And he also has disadvantages, like you said, he is terrible at defense. Playing with Viego is a lot of fun, but playing against him isnt that bad either. You can outplay him if you engage first.

I wish he was *actually* high risk high reward but these days he just builds bruiser items which removes half the risk in playing him; that being how he's supposedly a squishy assassin but as we can see he doesn't really live up to that. All he has to do is do enough damage with an ally or two to get one reset and the fight is pretty much over.
I think Viego is like Darius in the sense that if the enemy team consistently spaces well and doesn’t give Viego a chance to go in then he’s not very strong, but if one person fucks up then the ball rolls hard with Viego getting his souls and Darius getting Noxian might. Before that all of his abilities are really lack luster and any cc stops him instantly. His camo does make up for it, but you know the general area where is is unlike Ev or Akshan. If there’s a good Morgana or Thresh or a Malz Viego is done for 90% of the time.

I've started trying jungle in bot games and it's way different compared to Smite jungle. I picked Viego as the first jungle character I want to somewhat master. His playstyle is fun and I love his kit. The transform mechanic is super fun lol.
I don’t agree that junglers have the worst game knowledge. I believe it’s the other way around. Playing a laning role only makes you focus on farming and lane management, whereas junglers have to know when to take objectives effectively, and on top of that know where to go and when. It definitely requires a lot of knowledge of how the game works to manage all this seamlessly. And I’m even saying this as a top laner , who is least appreciative of their junglers 😅
I picked up viego on launch, decided to learn other champion to play him even better, I haven't played him in a month, but I can play almost every top and mid laner pretty decently
I just love to enter the jungle and starts to chat "I'LL SEARCH FOR ISOLDE", and everytime someone kills some jungle mob or "steal" my kill i just chat "GIVE MY ISOLDE BACK"

Onestly, I believe the cd you have to wait before using your ultimate when you take a corpse should be higher, at least 1/1.5 second higher
This would really increase his skill level, as one should be more cautious before taking an enemy corpse if that champion is 1/12, as you would be a 1/12 yourself for a long enough time for the enemy team to blow you up
That way, you also increase his identity as "a champion that steals others corpses" and not just that of an ult reset-champion

You just have to understand what to do during that time, if picking up a certain champ would be worth it considering the heal, the spells that champ have and the ult reset
If you're not able to do it, it just means you have bad macros/the champ is not made for you
But he's supposed to be hard to play, so it's only right that not everyone can pick him up
@Keshuel the way you're saying it, it looks like any squishy can't even teamfight because of the damage in the game at the moment
The problem would incure if you take the body of an enemy who is far behind (which should theoretically be an easy task), but if you take the body of an enemy who's even or ahead you would be more stimulated to use their body (which is an harder task, but that's the main theme of the champion, using your stronger opponents against their own ally)

I think the main problem is actually that he gains movement speed after he ults, allowing him to close gaps way too much

I think you forgot about tristana her reset is also really forgiving and leads to pentakilles a lot

They should make Viego deal the killing blow in order for him to get the soul and all the 200 years bs that comes from it. It's not an incredibly difficult task given his ult is an execution. Giving him free heals and untargetability just for the lulz is bonkers. That way players would actually have to think and save their ults instead of diving head first waiting for their teammates to finish the job. If they want to close the gap with ult, then it's gonna be a little harder to deal the killing blow because someone on your team might accidentally kill the enemy. It feels more interactive that way imo. Right now it's a total mess.
