This video is fantastic if only from the standpoint that you have shown how the bags look on a person and from different angles. Even the manufacturers don't do this in their promo ads and product descriptions. The rest of the video is of good quality and has useful educational value. Well worth the view. Thank you.
I did not use slings because I’m a guy in my 20’s and they do not look “cool.” However, we were taking a trip to Mexico with several flights. I started looking so that I could keep all of my boarding passes, wallets, headphone, etc… easy to reach while moving through airports. I purchased the TomToc for our trip and it was phenomenal. I now use it every day. One day I may upgrade to something made by Alpaka because the quality is top notch, but for the price you cannot beat the TomToc. Zero quality defects and the zippers are STOUT. I love it! Thank you Maurice!
First-time viewer and instant subscriber. I devour both travel and product comparison videos and this is the BEST ever. Factual and to the point and I love the way you compare a specific feature in various bags instead of going thru all the features of each bag separately. Makes the comparison so much easier. Can’t wait to binge the rest of your library.
When I travel I like to have everything in order, even preparing to have everything configured from my phone or laptop in case I lose a folder or wallet with important documents.
FINALLY GOT INTO THE RIGHT VIDEO🤯 I was looking for the perfect slingback so I can put my things in there for daily, even tho I got not that many but the necessary. My favorite so far is the tomtoc one, which is yours fave?
Dude, you have influenced me more than any other influencer. I just discovered you yesterday and I just bought a tomtoc sling bag. My next purchase will be a pakt traveling backpack. Your organized approach to packing gives me life. Thank you.
This is the best product review I've seen. I really like the side-by-side comparison and simple explanations. You use good lighting and camera angles. Bravo!
This is the most perfect and thorough comparison of sling bags ever! So much good information and many disclaimers. I hate when product videos lack basic qualities like price info, practicality info, and PASSION.
Great review! To add onto the split screen portion: I’ve had this Alpaca bag for a year now and I’ve taken it on two international trips. I’ve been able to fit: my passport, cash, coins, my wallet, my iPhone 14 pro max, my kindle, sunglasses, chapstick, hand sanitizer, an umbrella, a portable fan, and sunscreen. It was pretty full at this size, but still had room for little things like receipts, random trash, or tissues.
I’m just randomly watching bags review videos on TH-cam and came across this channel. I love how clear the explanations and how he explains what does it mean by “the best” in his opinion. I love there is a lower to higher price point options. I’ve watched some other videos were just mumbling the entire time and kept calling some bags “entry level” and I have no bloody clue what did they meant. Keep up with your good work!
This video editing and all the choices you made to clearly consider your different viewers is amazing. Loved the side by side reel of all three bags so you can visually compare! Amazing, wow.
Yep. There are certain factors we just can't ignore when buying a new bag. For the past 14 years, I've traveled about and lived in Peru, Chile, and Mexico. And I've gone through a few bags in that time. I've also gotten older (76) and now I "favor" a heart with a small malady. Sooo, no more trudging all over a city and carrying laptops and chargers to coffeehouses, though coffee itself is still IN! LOL (And I'll plug both Fix and Original Green Roasters while I'm here--both in Santiago, Chile!!! 'WAY beyond wonderful.) At the top of my list, though, in considering a new bag are notebooks: 8 1/2 X 11 inch (or similar size). 'A MUST. Sooo, simply looking at dimensions is always the very first and biggest hurdle for me. 'Certainly makes shopping easy, though! "Nope. Nope, Nope. Nope. Maybe!" Sooo, I can appreciate setting certain limits and relying on certain categories when shopping for a bag. 😁 After sizing, I'd say I lean distinctly toward "Less is more." But that's just me. (Kudos on making and presenting such helpful videos. I thank you--and so does Aer!)
As a Traveler’s Notebook lover I appreciated seeing this in the mock setup 😀 “Will it fit my notebook?” Is always my number one concern. Thank you for sharing.
You are an excellent product reviewer. I’ve been trying to decide between a number of different sling bags and your review clinched it for me. Thanks for your efforts!
I have the Tomtoc and am generally happy with it. Their sizing has to do with the size of the screen of a device that fits inside. So the 8" Tomtoc fits my Kindle, and I'm told that it fits a Nintendo switch. If I wanted to bring my Tablet, I'd have to move up to their 11" size. Confusing at first, but actually pretty useful once you understand it. I can fit a water bottle inside the 8" sling, but when I do, there isn't much room for anything else. I haven't tried hanging one off of a carabiner.
Just watched this as I'm planning a trip soon. Just wanted to thank you for such an informative and well made video. Really impressed, and that's coming from someone who never leaves comments on TH-cam.
I agree, having an extra zippered which partly hidden & closest to you is nice to have & can be used for passports & other important papers for travel. I just came back from 15 days London trip & I used sling bag for the first time & I’m completely satisfied with it. From now on, slings will be my go-to travel bag
Love this sling breakdown Maurice! Very methodical as always, and I enjoyed the feature-by-feature comparison rather than going through the entirety of one sling before moving onto the next. Looking forward to the next!
A fan of your prrsentation style. I had been watching this video fews times now and other product reviews, yours truly gives the best insight coming from travelling and safety mindset. Pragmatic approach. I would go for AER Day sling 3 for the look, size though it's not ideal with fidlock when travelling abroad or seating on motorcycle 😉 that could be accidentally come undone. I would go for X-Pax fabric for lightness and better water resistance. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks.
I picked up the tomtoc recently, with a heroclip on top. Its been my work companion for the past few months. I have the same disappointment in the lack of a high vis interior, but elsewise love it. The only thing I think its missing would be a cable passthrough from the main to the front compartment (or even back) for charing my phone on the go.
I'm not even thinking about buying a new travel bag or wear a sling but the finesse of these review videos are so impressive. Thank you for such a detailed, well thought out review. I think I have some shopping to do, as my mum will enjoy a nice bag for her trip 😅
I would agree with this selection but I would also add Tomtoc 5.5L sling. Meets all the same requirements and works great to carry a 16 oz. Zojirushi thermos, an iPad Mini, and all my EDC for home and when traveling. It meets all of your requirements too.
Hi Maurice, You mentioned the interior color of the Tomtoc being black (dark) as a downside but I noticed that that is not always the case. The interior color changes depending on the color you chose for the exterior. As a result the tan colored bag has a black interior but the Navy has a light interior
YOU, are amazing. Thank you for all that you share with this community. And you do it with class, style and an artistic vibe. Glad I found you and your channel.
This video was exceptionally helpful. I love the way you think of things like epipens and tissues. I hadn't considered external loops before, but that would free up a bunch of internal pocket space with my Owala FreeSip bottle that I always carry. Thanks!
Thanks to your quality videos--I chose the tomtoc. I took with me to travel and it was the best thing I have. It continues to carry all my necessary items every day. That key lanyard is incredibly useful. Keep on making em videos!
You can also use the s-biner to secure the zippers closed. You can clip right through the metal zipper pull, but it’s small and finicky. I added a zip tie to the zipper pull to make it easier to clip it to the s-biner and keeps everything extra secure
Thank you so much Maurice for the fair and balanced reviews of the three EDC Sling options. I went with the Tom Toc that was $36 after the coupon, I also went with the 7.5 L 11 inch version which came to $56 after the discount coupon. I now own well constructed bags with different capacities for the price of one. I’ve been wanting to purchase an EDC sling for over a year but could not make up my mind looking at the various models. Your review made it very clear while offering an extremely affordable option with the Tom Toc. Keep up the great content. PS I Also order the carabiner ✌🏼
Instant subscribe AND one of the first comparison-related videos that got me to comment on this site. Your humor shines through in the way that you edit, while your charisma and attitude make the entire video a seamless, fitting watch. As for the content, it somehow touches on all of the aspects of reviewing that I have always wanted when making informed purchasing decisions--namely, informative comparison of specific features ACROSS items and a real-time simulation of how they would be used day-to-day. Thank you for showing me something new.
Your video is the best I have seen bar none Maurice! The 3 way split-screen is wonderful and allows the best comparison. I will be getting the Aer 3 or 6L, still deciding! THANK YOU!
Arc’teryx Mantis is my go to. I like how the straps actually turn at the connectors instead of sticking straight out of the bag in a single direction. This makes it waaaay more comfortable. I don’t care too much for their clothing, but the bags are nice.
Very helpful - searching for just the right bag for a daypack for travel. Want one that I could carry a few art supplies, sketchbook, watercolors & brushes….looks like the AER might work well for me. Thank you so much - I love the split screen comparisons and concise reviewing!
I haven't tried all of these. But I have the tomato. And I can say it served me well on a trip to vegas. I felt secure having the sling close to my body especially when carrying my winnings. Which were stored in the pocket closest to my my posket. Highly recommended. As a big guy it also keeps my pockets free. Wallets and phones can be heavy n pull down your shirts or pants. So that's another unspoken plus of any sling.
In my small bag I usually include a lightweight packable/foldable backpack in case I acquire something en route or need to carry a jacket if the weather warms up after I venture out.
Hi Maurice! First, your video presentation and communication over products are second to none. I bought the TomToc bag back when you had covered it previously. Thanks for that. It may not be your niche but I would love to see the process of how you put together a video from story boarding, shot process, and editing phase with the transitions and animations used. I'm sure that your note-taking skills with journaling translate over to the digital front. Heck, I'd even be happy to pay to see this because if more people reviewed like you, the bottom line for product coverage would improve as a whole. Thanks again for your videos and I'm looking forward in continuing my digestion of all previously made content you have done in the past. Cheers.
@@jordan.h6821 I'm thinking you were meaning to ask Maurice about the bag but since I own it as well, I'll weigh in my opinion additionally. The straps in my opinion never got in the way when wearing the bag as they are the same feel and width of a car seat belt. It naturally contours to your body. As far as the fairly hidden aspect, I would not expect to be able to wear this bag under a jacket or under any clothing as it will surely show a lump on your back or front. Because the TomToc bag doesn't have compression straps on the side, it can bulge out depending on what you are wearing. Hope this helps!
first time viewer here and i'm instantly subscribed. I like the no bs approach and very informative format of your vids. As a newbie traveler there's so many options out there for carry ons and slings and I stumbled upon your video and it tremendously helped narrow down my options. You know exactly what a traveler needs and I'm here for more of these content. The split screen is a genius idea to save time watching and it's also very informative since you see the comparison in real time.
I would recommend to try out the Osprey Daylite Sling. I use it for basically everything, from going to the supermarket to photoshootings with my Sony a6700 + Tamron 18-300mm.
I've been looking for sling bags that works for me as well, the back compartment as the video showed is really important, security, ease of use and the ability for it to compress and expand when needed is important for me as well, since there are days I carry more stuff than usual, but don't necessarily need a bag pack. The best one that works for me is from urban nature niid , R1 radiant urban sling. Been using it for a year now, has been worn out a little bit since I use it daily and so far so good. Would buy it again, hope you guys would search it out as well
Excellent review and information. I really appreciated the splitscreen overview. Thank you for including not only the manufacturer dimensions but also your build, dimension and actually putting a good mix of items into the bag. I dont need them but a pill bottle and a epipen stand-in were a class touch. Its always great to see a fellow 6er producing such great content. Subscribed!
I can see how much thought and effort was put into this video. I really love your videos. I always get all the answers I am looking for when I search for a particular video of yours. Thanks for the effort. We see it, keep it up, mate.
Sling/ bum bags are targets for pick pockets and snatchers. I never put all my important items into one bag that I hang outside my clothes for every stranger to see. Personal experience taught me that. A long time ago, while on vacation in Rome with my parents, my father with a bum bag around his waist was pick pocketed by three girls right in front of my eyes. It was very quick, very professional, and he lost 700 USD in cash. They didn’t touch his passport or anything else, and just took the cash which was in an envelope. It was a very expensive show. Bravo!! From then on, I have NEVER EVER put all my eggs into one basket. I don’t put my wallet in my back pocket, I divide up my cash and found a way to keep passport and most of the cash on me but not around my waist area. I also like to wear cargo pants/ shorts to keep pick pockets guessing. If I was to carry a sling/ bum bag, it will be a decoy where I will keep my umbrella, eye glasses, and tissue paper in it. Also, after you finish shopping, don’t hurry out of the store while trying to put money into your wallet. Stay inside the store until the money is in the wallet, and the wallet is back in a safe place (not the back pocket), then leave the store. Be aware of your surroundings as you leave the store. I won’t share with you my ideas for keeping my belongings safe, you will just have to make up your own. It’s better that way… I am sure many house keepers/ hotel staff will be checking room curtains more often. Stay safe people!
I am going to get a sling! Which one and what size? Maurice you have been the one to get me thinking about this! Thanks! ( I think?! Lol). Your vid’s are most insightful and so well done. THANK YOU SIR‼️🐾👍🏼
This fella was one of the tomtoc reviews I watched before purchasing mine; and I’m enjoying it. Soldier, sturdy bag with enough organization and room for fanny pack/sling bag things and keeps you honest with what you bring.
Your videos are so dope. Honestly next level stuff. And you made me fall in love with Alpaka! Haven‘t heard of them before and I am amazed by their products now. Thanks!
I totally agree about the three main compartments, and the options you picked are honestly the best picks if you are thinking of EDC and travel, don't waste your time looking up other options, these have you covered. However, I think the TomToc is the clear winner. The Alpaca has the buckle on the back and while that might help with left and right shoulder carry it could be a nuisance if you had a travel backpack. But one thing I have seen is that the zippers are really loud. They jingle and clank when you move and are annoying. You would have to paracord it or replace them. Then the Aer Day has what I have seen to be a bad choice for the magnetic buckle, it can come undone on rare occasions, but even in general it seems like a poor quality choice compared to the Alpaca magnetic buckle. The funny thing is that the TomToc actually has the cheaper manual buckle, but it wins over the Aer Day because you won't have to worry about it becoming undone since it's not the poorly picked magnetic buckle, and it still has the similar strap positions that are good for travel. Also, the TomToc has very quiet zippers compared to the Alpaca. And to the comment about the interior being dark, we'll just say that's an anti-theft feature. Oh, and did we not go over the price point again? You're paying less and getting something that functionally is still designed better in other ways compared to the other two. But if I haven't sold you yet, the TomToc is the obvious choice because I think with another version of the Aer Day and Alpaca Mini we will see all these little design flaws fixed, so that means the TomToc is the perfect choice to not blow the bank and buy another sling in a year or two when these newer versions become available. That's what I'm doing!
Nice... I'm just discovering these high end bags and for my sling bag I use alpaka Air Sling v2... When just carrying minimal item I have the peak design field pouch as my goto...
Nice video. What would you prefer? Aer day sling 3 (not max version) or Alpaka Go Sling Mini for carrying mirrorless camera that use a large space? Thanks dude!
Thanks for the detailed review Maurice. Loved the side by side comparison of each bag. I was able to narrow my decision and plan on purchasing the TomToc sling. It'll be a nice upgrade from my Lululemon Everyday Belt Bag.

When I travel I like to have everything in order, even preparing to have everything configured from my phone or laptop in case I lose a folder or wallet with important documents.
What do you use to track that kind of thing? I travel a lot and I am always aware of those details.
For folders and those kinds of things I use Apple applications and for the wallet I got a Vionentus V100 with an airtag slot
Ok ok, yes I have read about that man, I will find out

I have the blue and white Tomtoc 8" sling, which has a light gray/beige interior, so that solves the visibility at night issue!
Maurice! I’ve watched four of your vids in a row. Thank you.
Cheers.
how do you find the bag now after months of using it, also does the messy straps bother you or is it fairly hidden
Love it, so far my favorite has been the new Grayl Sling , but not the biggest fan of cammo
Your product review (the Pakt bag video, too) is very clear and your packing strategies are quite helpful as well.
Would buy it again, hope you guys would search it out as well
Quality content, sir. Detailed, practical, and to the point.
true!
Thank you, Maurice. Your clip helped me decide what type of sling is for me. I got two from Alpaka.😀 🎉🙏
it's not just a review. a lot of things to note as well (ie the color of the interior). subscribed!
Subscribed!
Same as BlueGumbo below... your video quality is superb (chef's kiss)!
I am impressed. Instant subscriber. your video is factual, concise, to the point, helpful and visually exceptional. Excellent presentation 👍🏻
I can see how much thought and effort was put into this video. I really love your videos. I always get all the answers I am looking for when I search for a particular video of yours. Thanks for the effort. We see it, keep it up, mate.
All 3 are nice options but I miss 2 essential things I look for: RFID protection, and 'slash proof' material.
Aer has a X-Pac collection, where all products are waterproof. Have a look at their Day Sling or City Sling.
THANK YOU SIR‼️🐾👍🏼
on your recommendation, I got one of the TomTocs a few months ago as extra pockets and I am constantly delighted by it. Thank you
This fella was one of the tomtoc reviews I watched before purchasing mine; and I’m enjoying it.
Thanks!
Ha ha I AM a Travelers Co Notebook geek! And multi pens. I really like the second one! I love your channel and how sleek your life is! Cheers Maurice🎉
I've just discovered slings. I have 2 Foldies and love them ❤
Dude I don't even travel that much but you've convinced my that I need a sling bag... excellent in-depth review!
You are so good at this. You really are.
Well I guess I’ll be bringing my flashlight with me when traveling from now on. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that!
I used my Baggu fanny pack while traveling recently and it was the best!
started traveling more this past year, you're channel is awesome!
Bro your videos are real concise and effective in delivering information. Subscribed.
Thanks for the detailed review Maurice. Loved the side by side comparison of each bag. I was able to narrow my decision and plan on purchasing the TomToc sling. It'll be a nice upgrade from my Lululemon Everyday Belt Bag.
Bro, your camera, editing and content skills are awesome!! You know how to make good videos!!
Just discovered your channel today and already watching 3rd video. Great stuff. Keep up the great work!
