  • In the Philippines, Typhoon Gaemi brought Manila to a standstill on Wednesday as heavy rain triggered severe flooding and landslides.
Regional authorities have cancelled most work in government offices and shut schools.
Gaemi merged with another tropical storm last week in the southern Philippines, leaving seven people dead.
The storm is now heading towards Taiwan, where 21 cities and counties have already announced school and office closures.

Manila is very ready in fact not all places in Manila are flooded fyi..and the govt put BIG drainage under the roads canal so the infact is minimal from heavy floods and Phillippines govt is continuously clean and upgrade the sewage system and canals in all national Roads.anyways the flood is subsided now..it's normal that in 3 days of rain make heavy floods but in ordinary rain there's no heavy floods in Manila, it's happening in other countries

I just got back from a visit to the Philippines recently. And I was disappointed with what I saw after coming back since 20 yrs ago…nothing has changed since, matter of fact, things got really bad and worse than before. It killed me seeing garbage everywhere, literally! Even the business establishments, ie restaurants and such, I saw workers from the restaurants just dumping their garbage in one corner. There was no trash bins and dumpsters. So sad, this is one major concern for this country. Poor garbage disposal, thus trash is everywhere, people just throw their garbage and trash wherever they like. And if it rains, it clogs up all drainage, thus the flooding. With that said, only the people themselves can blame themselves for this. The government needs to focus on proper garbage disposal which also concerns public health at the same time. People have no respect and integrity to clean up after themselves, facts!

There are also bus passengers who are stuck on the roof of the bus they are riding because the flood rose up and it submerged 90% of the bus. There are also pictures that shows a house's ground floor is submerged in the flood. Good thing they have a 2nd floor, if not, they will be stranded on the roof of their house while it's raining hard.

    HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
Philippines will be building the SKY MANILA, they would put Metro Manila's 100 km x 100 km land area up by 50 meters using 500,000 posts.
There will be three levels, the ground level is the existing land, all vehicles would use the ground level,
hundreds of MRT and LRT would use the second level and therefore reducing massive amount of vehicles using the ground level and less traffic,
the third level would be vehicle less area, yes no cars, trucks, jeepneys.
SKY MANILA is walking , jogging, biking, scooting area. It will be full of skyscrapers no less than 300 meters tall, condo, hotels and offices.
Hundreds of parks, huge malls, millions of restaurants, thousands of hotels, several thousands of factories using all electric.
All vehicles will be full electric, non-electric vehicle are not allowed.
Many swimming pools, basketball, tennis, football courts, and many sports venues.
    Hundreds of entertainment arenas.
It will have airport for helicopters or any vertical take off planes. This will be finished in 2035. Flood will be the thing in the past.

@@YeenMageThat's because everything is worse in the Philippines. Never mind the courruption, I don't have much idea in Taiwanese politics. We have less access to high quality construction materials, we're lesser techologically advanced, we have more affected islands to cover, worse population control, and we receive the one most number of calamities per year in the world. Most news and documentaries will only focus on infrastructure and efficiency, but not the other factors affecting these 2 things.

The president can't help the people's suffering right now coz he just used 20 million peso last Monday during his SONA speech, just for one day. Such a shame!

stupid comment. obviously the SONA is an annual thing that has it's own budget. I mean, it's not like they predicted this calamity to happen years ago, right? wag nga kayong mangmang.

Imagine with me for a moment if PH had a government that actually fixed the infrastructure. But instead Filipinos do nothing to fix this problem that happens every single year. How’s that “resilience” working out for you Filipinos?

Imagine with me, for a moment, that you are intelligent enough to realize how difficult and complicated it is to fix an entire nation's infrastructure. If we could do it overnight, we would. But since that's not possible yet, resilience is the next best thing.
