It is sad Drogon will be alone but he can lay eggs. So there can be a way for him to still live once the eggs hatch and he flies around with his children.

Dragons are most likely unisex. Drogon will lay new eggs. Plus, there have been rumors of dragons stirring again in the shadows of the far east, past Asshai.
Agree, even if they did want to kill 2 dragons in the ending, it should've been done to greater affect, they're the last dragons for fuck's sake!! Honestly season 8 is a mess, season 6 and 7 were starting to not make sense and if they could at least redo season 8 it would make everything better.

Once they were rode by two brothers, a husband and wife, traveled to essos together, and ends up killing each other.
So sad for both of them both are my favorite Dragons of the Targaryens

Does anyone else think it's freaking awesome that the Dragons breathe fire that's the same color as their scales? Thats awesome. Also does anyone else wish that this book talked about the Targaryen family pre conquest just a little bit more? What was Aegon Vesina and Rhaynes family life like? When did Aegon and Oros become close? What was their father like? Did any slaves from Valyria accompany the Targaryens?
Larkin Hancock orys was a bastard brother of aegon known as a dragon seed. Aegon married visenya out of duty and rhaenys out of love. They dont talk about the father really. Read the book lol
What made Gaemon so glorious? Why did a younger of 3 brothers inherit b4 Aegon's father? What treasures exactly where brought from Valyria and where are they now?... so many questions

Oddly, Rhaena Targaryen and Morning seem like some of the unnoticed complex characters in the Dance of the Dragons. She was the only Targaryen without a dragon in the beginning of the story, and by the end she was the last one. The Dragonless became the Only Dragon-Rider
It's insane to think about. She was the only non-dragon Targaryen (Not including Maelor or Viserys since they had eggs), while literally everyone around her: her grandparents, her siblings, her cousins, her aunts and uncles as well as her parents, who also rode the most powerful and biggest dragons at the time just to add salt to the wound, while she remained on the ground. And in the span of two years, either dragon or rider or both were dead, and she with her hatchling was the only one left.
You know emilia clarke has been persuing hbo to make the dragons story spin off, still no update on that... but maybe one day lol
that would be great...but i lost it when two of her babies died and then to see this story as a spin off...i couldn;t handle none of these dragon deaths at all...first one to die...I'm through..lol..

Dance of the Dragons would be so beautiful on screen! Imagine dragons breathing fire colored like their skin. Imagine SUNFYRE in its golden glory and fire with a shade of pink.
I agree about the Dance, but Balerion died of old age over thirty years before it began, so we wouldn't see him unless there's a short prologue showing the youth of Viserys I.
Dance of dragons was House Targaryen's start of downfall. The Dragons served as nuclear heads. That is why other houses small and major didn't bother to rise and start a coup de' ta. House Targaryen didn't had the riches but they had the most destructive power that is why they rose up.
But because of this battle of ego's. They lost their power that kept them on the Iron Throne.
Guess what?!?! You most likely know already but WE GETTING THAT SHOW!GOT spin off "The House of the Dragon " is about Dance of the Dragons!

Balerion, Meraxes, Vhagar, and Cannibal are absolute legends. What these dragons did is incredible, especially the first three. I've always had a soft spot for Vhagar. She fought during Aegon's Conquest, the First Dornish War, the reign of Aenys I and Maegor I, and she burned much of the Riverlands during the Dance of the Dragons. It's quite possible Balerion was Vhagar and Meraxes father. He came from old Valyria with four female dragons. Meraxes and Vhagar hatched on Dragonstone.

Sometimes, i try to Imagine how westeros and house targaryen would look like if the dance of dragons didn't happened.
With that many Dragons around, I think they would have tried to take Dorne again and succeeded this time. Maybe with more time, set their eyes on the free cities as well.
Dragons inspires the Targaryen to be conquerors, and Rule all. It also inspires fear in their subjects and enemies alike. I don't believe fear is power.

@@chodeoriki4113 Jaehaerys The Conciliator ruled the longest of any other Targaryen king and he ruled over an era when there were more dragons and Targaryens then before or after.
The whole realm loved him and even in Dorne people cried because he died.
By the time of the Dance the family ruled for about 129 years, the only people who had a problem in that time were religious fanatics and that was near 88 years before. I don't think they would have a problem.
Obviously there would be some people who wouldn't like them, but why would they suddenly change their opinion without the Dance?

I think she didn't. Because she actually never rode Viserion or Rhaegal. Jon bonded with Rhaegal and the Nightking with Viserion.
@@NiroLesi Going off the books, Daenerys only bonds with Drogon. Viserion and Rhaegal are unbonded but I think Martin is building up to a reveal of two other Targaryen riders (one might be Jon and another might be the missing Aegon/Aemon (I can't remember his name) travelling with the Second Suns. I refuse to take the final season as fact because it was so damn painful and contradictory to everything we've learned from the TV show building up to it.

@@NiroLesi The Show isnt canon. Rhaegal and Viserion are riderless for now. Plus, in the show The Nightking and Rhaegal never bonded, the NK just controlled him.
I don’t know if you remember at one point in the Fire & Blood book, there was a woman named Elissa Farman who was close to Jaehaerys I older sister Rhaena. She apparently stole three dragon eggs. Do you think these three dragon eggs are the same ones Daenerys acquires almost three hundred years later?

That was the implication. Elissa sold the Eggs in Bravos and they were never recovered. It is entirely plausible that Illyrio Mopatis bought them to give to Dany. He certainly was wealthy enough.

@@magentamomo7150 they did try to settle amicably at first. There was the war of ravens before the war of fire and blood, Aegon and Rhaenyra were trying to gather support for their factions. That went up in smoke when Aemond killed Lucerys.
Otto Hightower was pissed and shouted at Aemond for what he did while Aegon was happy with it till his son paid with his life.
With the two princes dead, there could be no peace meetings anymore
After House Targaryen lost their Dragons, I am surprised nobody and the Seven Kingdoms never started a rebellious or war for independence from the Dragons kings?
Several rebellions happened and they all failed.
Yet none of them decided to start all alliance and theb rebellion like Robert's Rebellions.

@@jeffreysamson5938 Grey Ghost was killed by Sunfyre for an unknown reason, but the Cannibal just disappeared during the time of the Dance of Dragons. It is the only dragon in the world besides ones living in the shadow lands who is not known to be dead or alive, or where exactly it is. Sheep Stealer lived out its days being worshipped in the Vale.
Although, I get the feeling the Cannibal is either no longer wild and someone is ensuring it remains hidden, or it travelled to Essos. A wild dragon probably wouldn't have existed without notice in Westeros for so long.

Yeah it was grey ghost that got killed. Cannibal may have died . Hope we get to hear about that dragon. And there's also another dragon that survived. Its alysannes dragon the one in the second battle of tumbleton.

I always wished the show would try and make the dragon fire match the books, but I guess the budget for animating black fire and the other colors would be an extra they wanted to avoid.
Yea plus i think the show wants to keep it easy w red and now viserions blue flame for fans to be able to see whats actually going on in their final battle.

I also thought the dragon's fire matching their scales was one of the coolest characteristics of the dragons
They use real fire for the dragons, they showed it in the behind the scenes that the fire the dragons breath is real fire which is most likely why they do not have it colored.

I still think it’s so sweet of daenerys to name her dragons after 3 people she loved, even though viserys was a mad man and had a foul temper she still loved him and that’s just so heartwarming to me

There were many Joffrey Lannisters and Joffrey Velaryon was named in honor of Joffrey Lonmouth (his father's boyfriend)

To all those who did not read the book, I'll try explain shortly, but in more detail.
Rhaenyra Targaryen was forced to marry her cousin Laenor Velaryon. He was super gay. She had three sons with him... well, possibly not with him, since all three boys had brown hair and looked nothing like their family members whatsoever, but that is not really the point. Laenor loved some Joffrey Lonmouth. Joffrey died and Laenor wanted to name "his" first born son after him, but was denied. Twice. His ambitious father Corlys Valeryon clearly did not want his grandchild to be named after his son's lover.
There is also Duncan Targaryen, named after famous knight ser Duncan the Tall. But yeah, most of the time, Targaryens have Valyrian names.
Joffrey is quite common name among Andals, though. Like Myrcella and Tommen.
There was also something about Lucerys and Jacarys having Valerian names upon insistence by their Grandfather and then Joffrey was the third child and their Grandfather gave in to naming him Joffrey, either because he was out of favor at the time or was away adventuring and had no say in the matter.
It's definitely never going to happen but I always had this thought in the back of mind thinking how badass it would be if Cannibal was still alive and helped turn the tides in the war that's about to happen. I always had a soft spot in my heart for Cannibal 😂

I miss the Ser Jorah (Ian Glenn) narration but the full story is now so flushed out. You should make a video about your take on the various accounts of that tragic event known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The Cannibal probably got really really close or even bigger than Balerion, since it had the chance to live longer and had a better free-growth factor, since it definitly never got locked up! And since it dissapeared after while knowone could tell how big it got!

Fire and Blood ended with the end of the regency, we still don’t know what happened during the reign of Aegon III. We do know that Aegon brings in some magicians to try to help hatching eggs. That could’ve been what subdued the family’s ability to bond and hatch dragons. The magicians could’ve tricked him, hatched one deformed dragon and made the family barren thereafter. Until Miri’s blood magic and her burning alive, throws off the old curse.

Watching this after seeing House of the dragon thank you for all the videos and all the explanations cuz we all know with game of thrones no one explains anyting and it's hard to keep track of all the families and the fights to be honest I feel like they can totally made this into a multiple series kind of thing with each family and each history and then did like nmcu thing where we all see the prequels leading up to game of thrones it would have so been nice to see all the stuff before the song of ice and fire it totally would have made more sense to me as of yore to be honest I only watched it because I love dungeons & dragons the game lol

Well I think that dragons grow as quickly and as largely as their environment allows them. Since they're the first dragons in hundreds of years, they're the Apex predators in any environment they're in. So it's safe to assume they can eat as much as they want and grow as much as they can

Maybe the parasites that infected Aerea attacked him. It could have been like this:
Aerea rode Balerion onwards. The old black dragon flew on and soon landed in a ruined, abandoned city. Aerea whipped him. "Really? You want to land here?!" Balerion responded by shaking her off his back. She grunted. She never thought dragons were so stubborn. "If you think you can defy me, where do we go now?" she prompted her dragon. Balerion shrieked loudly. He turned his head towards a nearby mine. "There?" Aerea shrugged and decided to follow the old dragon into the mine. She grabbed an unlit torch. Balerion instantly shot a burst of black and red flame and ignited the torch. She held it and approached closer. Balerion roared and screeched. "What now?" She groaned. Then, Aerea saw them. Worm-like creatures, with faces and arms, approached. Instantly they rushed towards her and began to burrow into her body before she could run. She screamed but could do nothing. Everything went black. Balerion was also wounded. He had fought them off successfully, but more kept coming. The dragon gently grabbed Aerea's unconscious body in his jaws and dropped her onto his back, and exited the mine, with the pests in hot pursuit. With a flap of his enormous wings, he was off.
@@chariahs36 The thing is that Balerion wasn't bothered at all by the parasites. So it was probably another dragon.
Possibly an adult fire wyrm, they where said to live within the volcanoes of Valyria, when the Doom happened they must have sensed something was wrong and tried to flee, most probably died in the attempt but some must have survived.

I’m so glad GRRM included one of the 3 dragons from the conquest into the story of Dance of the Dragons! Although old it’s pretty epic seeing the last of the legendary dragons still alive and still fighting during this timeline! Can’t wait to see Caraxes face off against Vhagar like in the novel! I feel like GRRM created the story of Dance of the Dragons mainly because he wanted to write more about the different type of Dragons and the bonds they had with the respective riders plus pitting them against each other in a war! It makes perfect sense to show the downfall of the most powerful house in Westeros and how it’s events destroyed the thing that made the Targaryens so powerful in the first place!

Fire and Blood is fantastic. Absolutely loved reading this . I’ve heard a review of episode 1 of HOTD from a TH-camr who saw an advance screening of it and he said it was out of this world . It was easily as good as GOT when that was on form , if not better .
Having said all that I would still have loved it if George had finished the WOW and maybe ADOS first .

Daenerys would be SHOOK if she met him. But I kinda want it to happen. Imagine! Mother of Dragons meets the Bane of Dragons, who also happens to BE a dragon.
Humans were always the problem. Look at the Dance of Dragons era, so many dragons died for what? So someone can still on a damn chair. The hunger of power that destroyed the dragons. Like Daenerys said in season 7 "They were extraordinarily, filled with wonder, beautiful creatures." And yet our desires created their downfall.
Lucky for Daenerys herself, her hunger for the throne nearly killed all of her children (even though one was killed by the Night King) it's what gotten herself killed (only in the show). With Drogon living on without his brothers & mother, there could be a way the Dragons can live on after him. Drogon can now lay eggs which is something he probably already done back in season 5. If those eggs hatch, which is highly likely, he can live on with his children and they can lay eggs and so on and so on.
There's also hints that magic is not as potent and is nullified in the western lands. Or in general as magic just became lost as an art overall through the ages it used to be widely practiced and more potent. The Targaryens never really viewed the dragons beyond for their militant potential, that's the type of arrogance that got the valyrians fucked it also got the Targaryens fucked.

@@nidohime6233 i believe dragons dont have a specific gender like aemon said dragons are neither male or female and can switch when needed like snails and other creatures so theirs a chance that drogon can lay eggs but theirs a chance their wouldnt be a dragon rider since they would all be dead unless jon survives the series and marrys a lys woman with descendants from house targaryen and have kids and they inbred with each other than maybe their can be dragon riders since i believe that not an valyrian can ride dragons, only blood if the dragon can.

I currently read this book, Fire and Blood, and I just finished the Dance of the Dragons part. This is what happen when you don't have a clear law of succession. Either Aegon the Conqueror or the Old King Jaeheris could have made a law about it but they didn't. Didn't foreseen this very important thing so didn't do anything. King Jaeheris convened a Great Council but the enforcement was weak so it wasn't honored by the next generation.
Now, after all the war and misery that the Seven Kingdoms was plunged into, they are now being ruled by a sad and broken king. I pity him and I couldn't blame the way he is. He is really a broken person. I hope the next generation would be more prosperous. I partly wish that the Old King and the Good Queen never died. They really ruled well.
Even if Jahaerys had made a law on top of convening the great council, the people of westeros, or anywhere, have a hard time getting past their old ways and beliefs. They wanted a male heir, even if he was younger or less legitimate than the female heir. A king making a law on issues like this is rarely enough, and so you are usually waiting for the people who knew the old way to die off, assuming they didn't hammer the old way into the heads of their children.
Those fire parasite things sounds like something i would expect to find in Sothoryos. They also say that she was suffering from something the maesters had never seem before. That sounds like one of the many fatal diseases from Sothoryos. Also the wounds that Balerion had? Probably a wyvern.

Cannibal and Sheepstealer are the wild dragons that disappear from the history. In the books it says that Dany's dragon are the first born in the last 100 years so I believe these last dragons are dead.
