My set of 2008 turtles are the clamshell versions. I ordered them from an online toy site that's long gone at this point. I remember the clamshells being $15 each with extra accessories and hands, and each came with a piece of a diorama. The tube versions were $10 each and just came with their signature weapons and nothing extra.

Honestly, I jumped on the Shredder clones. I absolutely love the color scheme used for those three. I agree with you about not going back to the original Mirage turtles. Neca reuses sculpts all the time with new articulation or additional parts, so why would the tmnt be any different?
@butchersblade7068 I don't even have a problem with the colors themselves and this is what an exclusive should be. Every company reuses parts and does redecos which I don't mind either. @FoxDumbSeriesMaker there's very few instances where the turtles don't sell out immediately. I know that Toon line is damn near impossible to get in other countries, that does suck. Fortunately, the Mirage figures you can get off of stores like BBTS and you will be able to get the Lawson bro's there eventually as well.
I hope that will be the case. It’s been months and BBTS still haven’t put the Mirage/Lawson Turtles 4 Pack on their store. Everything else comic related goes there, and many have said the Target exclusivity for comic figures is temporary, so I have hope yet. Don’t want to buy the other characters from Mirage until I know for certain that I can obtain the Turtles themselves!
The Splinter that is getting released right now has a red robe - not the brown one that was shown at Comic Con/Toyfair. It is not the original color sceme but the IDW Classics colors.
@michaelmuth6770 dude you're totally right I never even put that together. So that one was actually shown in classic Mirage and switched to the Color Classics, that's concerning.
@IAMTHESTARMAN I'm just not feeling them and now we're at the point where we have so many options for TMNT I'm not going to get things just because it's TMNT and it exists.
I agree with you on not re releasing the first turtles but I ended up just grabbing the KOs and they look great! I also think that 4 pack is a target exclusive so good luck lol. They are a lot easier to get since neca reps aren't putting them out themselves anymore!
@olddirtydave22 the KO's are pretty good I have three of them (still missing leo) and I don't even mind. I would clearly much rather have the originals, but these do look good. The 4-pack is a wide release target just had "timed exclusivity" but it will go to BBTS, EE, and comics shops. I already snagged mine but I'll get a second once they are widely available.
The Mirage Comics line is really the only TMNT line I am collecting (and I just started...missed out on the blue Renet, for example). I want a Shredder Claw Clone, but I also want a Shredder and Foot Soldiers that are burgundy. I don't think the intention was to ever make them blue, and I don't go by any IDW reprint, as I'm a fan of the original books. I'm not paying double or triple for that Shedder/Foot pack, either. I'm already starting to get frustrated with a line I'm just starting out with.
@supersquad7 yeah jumping into this line late puts you in a weird spot. Luckily, you can get the turtles but I don't know if we'll ever get the Foot Soldiers or Shredder in original colors again which is a huge bummer.
Wait… the mirage turtle 4 pack is not an exclusive? I haven’t seen it at any online store, or brick and mortar store minus Amazon at an up charged rate because it’s sold by a third party.
@BeLikeSound target gets “timed exclusives” so there’s like a 2-3 month window where only they can sell or silicate them. It was the same situation with Zog and the Shredders. Target had them first, then 3-4 months later everyone did.
@jamesoblivion not going to lie kind of a shady move for NECA to just put them up on their own site for an open preorder and not give the other retailers a crack at them. Turtles always move I feel like they should be on shelves regularly. If you're patient you can probably find a set for retail plus shipping.
Sucks when business gets in the way of art. That being said, the ultimate footsoldier is one of my favorites, I am army building them, and they look amazing surrounding the turtles and the blue shredder just looks like the leader in darker blue.😅
@wetalktv3020 it absolutely does dude... people seem to be loving them. Again, I don't think these figures are bad by any stretch, I just would much more prefer the regular colors myself. I'd trade my blue shredder for the regular one all day.
The knockoffs are beautiful. Great figures, very nice quality, and a shitload cheaper to buy than the legit ones. And honestly other than having character accurate mask colors, I couldn't tell the difference.
@edwardjohson6744 I have the ones that do have the red masks too. I think they're pretty damn good as well If didn't know they were KO's I wouldn't even know, ya know?
I'm not involved in this topic, and I still found it very interesting. But I had a hard time understanding what was happening throughout the video. It would be helpful if there had been more images showing and illustrating the examples for those who are not familiar with the lines and figures. Regardless, I loved all those figures on the background and the name of the channel!
@ERey55 noted dude! Glad you're digging the overall vibe of the channel. I actually had the name figured out like 6 months before I posted my first video haha.
The Triceraton has color problems too. I started to make a review of him, but I got busy so I haven’t finished it yet. The Triceratons left arm with the triangle tattoo on the shoulder is incorrect. That arm is actually completely covered with a sleeve in the comics, but IDW decided to color the arm like that. They actually did a pretty inconsistent job and the sleeves change all throughout the color classic issue, but you can clearly still see the uniform shading on the arm even when they color it the skin tone. Plus worst of all they colored on top of the ink lines to make the eyeball red. They should have just left them black. Some one at Nickelodeon or IDW has to be forcing them to color them these colors. The three Shredder clones looked stupid in the comic all monochrome. I’ll be passing on the 3 pack.
@razrentals I didn't even realize how much was actually off on the figures that I thought were on point. I've never actually read a color classics book but from all that I'm gathering it is sounding like it was just getting things in color the laziest way possible. I definitely feel like someone is pulling strings from somewhere. These seem like decisions being made for company reasons and not collector reasons which has Viacom/Nickelodeon written all over it.
Having stopped collecting TMNT Playmates figures in the mid-90s (I have over 400 carded), I've only been coaxed back on the odd occasion (those being the original Neca turtle sculpts and the movie figures). However, these Mirage figures are really starting to tug at those long sealed wallet strings (I've just scored the Zog figure which is amazing)!. Whilst I appreciate your collective comments regarding accuracy, I'm just chuffed that these figures are even being made at all. It's just a shame it took nearly 40 years......
Not feeling the mirage line but I never really got into the comic books so I'm sure people that did will be more into them. I am also disappointed they gave up on the video game line since those games were such a huge part of my childhood, the toons, super7, movie line and video game and really hit that nostalgia for me bigtime and why I love them so much. Mirage doesn't do that for me nor does the last ronin.
@chrisdolinish4845 I think you might be one of the few people more guided by nostalgia than I am haha. I definitely love the comic stuff both Mirage and IDW but there is just something special about getting figures you wanted as a kid that never existed. My biggest want for the video game line is a new Slash with the Archie mold. That would have a very high chance of being my favorite figure ever.
It never ends with some people “wha wha wha wha we don’t get comic based figures the X is wrong”..we get them?…”wha wha wha whaaaaaaa I don’t like them….but still will get all of them”
You’re the only one pointing this out. 👍 The colors are all over the place. Confusing the crap outta everyone. I’m not buying the “color classics” versions. I’m waiting patiently for a red shirt Casey. Didn’t bother to get that blue Renet with the way you had to buy it, but I do want that figure. Good video 👍
@WedeSkates707 Thanks dude! It seemed to be catching peoples attention at first but once the hype train went off the rails no one cared anymore haha. People have also brought to my attention that the Triceraton and Splinter colors are also off too which I honestly didn't even realized until they said something. Those don't really bother my honestly but the solid color variants just aren't doing it for me.
It took me a while watching what was coming out before I committed to a line. I passed on super 7 ultimates, passed neca mirage, but stuck with neca cartoon. Since I have all of them, I'll probably just get a few mirage that I like. As a full group they just don't like they belong together
@pixelsncreatures exactly it's not like these are bad figures or a bad line, it's just not cohesive which was the point I was trying to make, which you got haha. If you were only in on one line, the toon is the way to go. I think it will be the deepest TMNT line that ever gets done.
@@noyougrowup69 ya 👍 it's also why I haven't stuck with any line who made street fighter 2 figures. They never finish the roster. (besides Gi Joe lol) So im looking at what Jada Toys is doing now. I can't remember the company but I was collecting one line, they didn't finish Sf2 characters, started making sf3 and went back to Sf2 with "player 2" repaints instead of new characters! They didn't even finish sf3 lol
I feel that Neca should've just focused on one line finish the line. Move on to the next line. So on and so on. But like you said it's probably the decision of the company that owns Neca.
@patrickmcgavin2245 I don't mind them running multiple lines but I wish they would have done more with the arcade line before they abandoned it. The Movie line doesn't really get a lot of figures any more but the toon line is pretty much never ending.
I’d just like to know how Neca decides which version should be the main version in their figure line. I know the comics had multiple artists and color reissues with weird color choices, but you’d think the easiest choice for Neca would be to choose whichever design that character originally appeared as. We’re they drawn in color for the cover of the original b/w comics? That’s your main figure design. We’re they never seen in color until a color reissue? Go with that then. Stuff like the Renet and Casey having the wrong colors is disappointing, but I still actually really like the line so far. Im glad the mirage stuff is finally getting some love! And I think most of the figures look great together! I’ll just save my money and skip any figures that I personally don’t think work in my mirage collection
@Packeralien86 the Renet and Casey thing is the most perplexing because it's so weird to make the main original version the exclusives and not the other way around. I think they do still work just fine but things like the color classics don't really work with these. I feel like Casey, Fugatoid, Renet, the Utrom, the Triceraton, the regualar clones, and now the turtles and splinter are the ones that work as the "mainline" and fit well together.
I think they all fit together well. But Im not exactly picking apart the color choices either. Im ok with it overall. Especially all the clan figs. I have them displayed with a multicolored light and underneath blacklight, blue, or magenta they look AMAZING! The contrast from the blue bodies to the red eyes and/or headband is super dope. Again, underneath a different light selection. With 2 of my top 5 characters Rat King and Leatherhead coming soon, oooh man! Not to mention Savanti and beyond. Im pretty much all in on the mirage. Could the color selection be better, probably. But the love and attention that Neca puts into the accuracy of sculpt, accessories, and final product, I don't let small misses here and there deter me. These are the types of products I wish all toy companies would strive for. I am curious to see how much more they pull from the 1st half of the mirage run tho. I think they might be done with the mirage sooner than later and start straining our pockets with the endless amount of characters from the Archie comics. We will see.
@redknockronson I definitely don't think the IDW colored figures look bad, it was just weird to me that they were going into variants before the regular releases were put out. With the foot soldiers, the regular colored ones are on the "to be continued" part of the the packaging so I know they're coming soon. The Rat King is probably my most anticipated NECA figure right now, that thing looks amazing. The Savanti Romero figure looks dope too but like you mentioned, mirage isn't super deep so maybe that's why they're already padding the line with variants to make it last longer.
Renet should have been Blue for her regular release but instead they made it an Auto T exclusive. I wonder how many figures they are going to do this with in the Mirage Line? I am not buying every figure twice! No way!
@DerrickAntonio85 totally agree the red one should be the exclusive not the other way around. Luckily these figures are probably going to sit on BBTS for a while so we can play the long game on this one to see what happens.
The Renet coloring on the regular release bugged the heck out of me. The Casey one is fine though and Mirage accurate. If you look at the cover of the Raphael Micro Series 2nd printing he was colored that same way by Mirage in 1987 (he had a LOT of guns on that cover though unlike this figure, lol). I imagine he didn’t wear the same shirt every day either, so that one is fine to me.
@ryanfearing I like how you're making such a realistic argument for the shirt haha. I've never even thought about that but you're right about the second printing cover, good point.
Nice video man! This is an interesting topic to tackle. A complete resculpt of the old 4 issue comic turtles is a great idea. I wouldn't overrule it yet. They only said no to a reissue. For multiple reasons. I believe one of them being the molds were stolen. To answer the question of why not start with the turtles, I think they must've looked at their own track record and discovered that had they started with the turtles, that line would die quicker and had they placed them last ppl would lose interest...I'm sure it's something concrete. That being said, I agree with the all over the place idea. It's still a great line. And I will get the turtles and a few other characters. The mirage line is just as tumultuous as the comic itself. So there's that lol.
@carlwoolley17 Thanks dude! I honestly wouldn't rule them completey out either. Someone just mentioned in an FB group that next year is the 40th anniversary so I wouldn't be surprised if they have something in store for that. The stretching out the line theory makes sense. Once you burn up your A-list, interest does typically fall off on things. But as a collector, that doesn't meant I have to like it haha.
100% agree. I have a set of the bootleg Mirage Turtles and when i heard they were re-releasing Shredder, I was really excited. But seeing the blue battle damaged Shredder coming to retail is disappointing, why is it so hard to give us the red version? If I can't get Shredder, or Foot Soldiers, then why would I bother buying Casey, Renet or Zog? When the Shredder clones are easier fo find than an actual regular Shredder, you're failing at giving the consumer what they want in my opinion.
@stevenfraser81 the shredder things is an excellent point. The fact that you can get a million shredder variants but not an actual shredder is just ass-backwards. Someone in a group did make a good point though. Next year is the 40th anniversary, so it would be a great time to release the original designs.
@@noyougrowup69 I hope so! Id love to see Neca reissue the red Shredder and the Foot Soldiers/Elite Foot Ninja from the 2016 SDCC 4 pack. I'm glad they've made Splinter and that a new Mirage April is on the way though.
@robledoeugene1975 agreed I think he's one of the best looking figures. Although I have been corrected, I think his OG robe was actually grey, but I don't mind the red.
I'm a huge Mirage fan but overall this line has been rubbing me the wrong way. I have the OG figures and Blue Shredder then I bought Casey, Zog, and now two Renets. After the Auto-T stuff I'm not even going to play the game with them anymore, I bought the 4-pack and Splinter from AliExpress and I'm definitely not even going to bother with anything that's a weird color.
@maskofjustice I think I'm with you on sticking to the main Mirage looking stuff. A few people have pointed out the the colors/designs are actually still off on some of those as well, but it's not enough to make me disinterested. I never realized Splinters actual robe color was grey for the example but I don't mind the red. I'll see what else comes out for black and white stuff but I think that might be as far as I stray.
@@noyougrowup69 Exactly, it's like Zog is a great figure but he's not exactly page accurate. So why bother about little things like Splinter's robe (which looks good anyway) and Casey's shirt. Renet was the only one that I personally had to get in the "correct" colors. As far as black and white, I think they're cool but definitely not for me as I'm trying to avoid buying dupes even if they look cool.
Nice review. I love love love the music. But it's a bit distracting while listening to you talk. Again I listen to metal constantly and have heard the song. Just figured a bit of constructive criticism. Mirage line is very annoying. Now there coming out with single pack turtles that have more accessories then the 4 pack. Mousers and shit. Am I the only one bummed a bit I got the 4 pack?
@gilmo5994 Thanks dude! I'm honestly glad I got the 4-pack. While is does have a few less accessories it was still cheaper in the end and if I didn't have the bros for this line by now, I probably would have bailed on it.
I feel like I could easily pass on these Lawson Mirage Turtles because I didn't read the comics as much as I watched the cartoon and movies. But if NECA were to release those Wrasslin Turtles Im picking those up with the swiftness. These Lawson Turts would be cool to grab, tho, only after I get the Samurai Turtles preorder out of the way. That Wanderer Mike looks almost like a must-have, mostly for the Ronin-tease. But I want the Ronin bros before any other Ronin variant.
@KootenaiKing dude I'm so damn stoked for the Samurai bros. I feel like that will possibly be one of their best sets of all time I can't wait to see that armor. I did preorder the Wanderer Mike and the Sinja but I'm passing on all the other foot stuff.
Yeah I agree this election has been kind of weird, and not in a good way. This is why I’ve always been a particular collector. Some I will collect from different series others I will not. Once again I love your channel name. Like you’re pretty much telling people what your channel name is. Let us men enjoy our cool figures in peace
Unpopular opinion but I’m super happy neca isn’t going to reissue the original mirage turtles. I don’t want my clamshell 2008 mirage turtles to drop in value. I love the exclusivity. I also love they’re starting with the idw color classics versions first too. Absolutely love the color classics comics. Neca already stated they’re doing the idw color classics versions first then the original mirage colors next so no worries my friends. I’m a big fan of the new Eastman/Lawson style turtles those are the ones I’ve been wanting since 2008. I have a feeling they’re gonna do another set of first appearance turtles with new sculpts eventually. One thing I don’t understand is the red shirt mirage Casey. An authentic mirage first appearance Casey jones should have a light blue shirt, grey sweats, no gloves and white high tops.
@TurtleC0mic I would say that is unpopular among those of us who don't have them and popular among those who do haha. I mean they are pretty much the collector figures to have at this point, so I get it. I didn't see that they said they were going to follow up the Color Classics with the OG stuff but that is good news to me. I think you're right they will give us new sculpts down the road there's no way they would miss out on that opportunity. When they do turtle sets it's basically a guaranteed sellout. Someone in a group mentioned something about them being a good idea for the 40th anniversary next year and honestly that made a lot of sense to me. Also, I didn't even realize that about the Mirage Casey I always thought his red shirt was the original but after only ever reading that book in black and white has me all sorts of confused haha.
@@noyougrowup69 I’d love to see neca do the original first appearance comic versions again but ultimate style with multiple head sculpts ect.. and a better diorama…someone may have to pitch that idea to Trevor get in his head lol. The first color version of Casey that I’ve seen has that blue shirt color scheme. I think it was on the raph vs Casey cover I can’t remember I’ll have to go back do research and check it out.
I will never understand why NECA feels compelled to make the IDW Color Classics their main retail versions and then hiding the Mirage-accurate colors as store exclusives.
This line being so weird is the reason I pick and choose with it which I normally never do
@briarshinn4449 same I'm in on everything from the toon and movie lines but not this one.
Same, I’ve been very selective on the Mirage. I’m at a point on the toon line where I also am selective. Due primarily to space

@supersquad7 yeah jumping into this line late puts you in a weird spot. Luckily, you can get the turtles but I don't know if we'll ever get the Foot Soldiers or Shredder in original colors again which is a huge bummer.
@@noyougrowup69 Yeah for real.
You absolutely jinxed the availability of the 4-pack. 😆 it's the only NECA Mirage product I haven't been able to find. 😭
@jamesoblivion not going to lie kind of a shady move for NECA to just put them up on their own site for an open preorder and not give the other retailers a crack at them. Turtles always move I feel like they should be on shelves regularly. If you're patient you can probably find a set for retail plus shipping.
The mirage was never in retail
Those colors are the idw color classics not the first comics graphic novel collection and the cover colors
@tyronleung5276 the IDW Color Classics are what I was referring too if I wasn't clear.
is neca saving money with the use of less paint?
@nextorperena8629 I doubt it I think this is just a move to be able to use the mold multiple times, which does save them a ton of money on tooling.
I am looking forward to that review.
Same. I always pass on the ronin figures. I did get Casey from the mirage line.
I kinda like how we have mirage/ comics and movie releases come out around the same time
@patrickmcgavin2245 I don't mind them running multiple lines but I wish they would have done more with the arcade line before they abandoned it. The Movie line doesn't really get a lot of figures any more but the toon line is pretty much never ending.
@@noyougrowup69 yeah I agree with that
I’d just like to know how Neca decides which version should be the main version in their figure line.
Which color is the correct one for Renet? I’ve seen a blue one and red I think. I want to get one but not sure which is the correct color.
The ko's are excellent quality, I own a set.
@impossiblepie they're literally the only KO's I own and they are surprisingly good figures.
Ya bro I'm with you its getting a bit much but I am excited about the Splinter. Its gonna go well with my original 2008 neca turtles.
@robledoeugene1975 agreed I think he's one of the best looking figures. Although I have been corrected, I think his OG robe was actually grey, but I don't mind the red.
@@noyougrowup69 eventually we probably will get that version Neca nows what there doing.
@@noyougrowup69 I have an extra 4 pack of anyone is interested.
@Symphonia30 the name was the first thing I came up with, 6 months before I even posted my first video haha. Glad you appreciate it.
I agree it’s getting pretty messy. And speaking of auto t?!?! Haven’t heard a word about since that first drop.
@eccollecting I actually haven't heard anything about a second round. I'm sure they're rethinking it haha.
@Adamwinters it's definitely an interesting choice and I don't really get it myself.
Yep the mirage 4 pack has been really easy to get and definitely isn’t doubling in price on the second market 👍
100%
@reversetriangle glad you felt it.
Turtle fuckin power beardo
@scoutz1510 haha damn straight.
