I first read the book and then listened to it. There were moments where clarity came to me and I cried. The hardest thing to realize is that your mind automatically goes to a negative place and creates things in your head even when you don't have all of the facts. Reading this book gave me the courage to step outside my comfort zone and do something that totally scares me. It also taught me to open my heart. Game changer!
Singer's simple message is that we are not our thoughts and emotions but we are the one who is aware of them or "the observer". What we tend to do is judge outside events by a filter of our own prejudices, fears, desires etc. This causes constant inner turmoil as life will never consistently match our flawed expectations. When you learn to consistently access conscious awareness you by pass the neurotic mind and erratic human emotion and instead operate from a higher level of consciousness and energy. Simply, you learn to not take events personally (it is a hard concept to grasp, I know). It's what the Power of Now is all about i.e. living in the present moment free of attachment to thought and emotion. Singer's main influence is Kriya Yoga. Tolle's is Zen Buddhism. Most religions at their core are about accessing this higher state of consciousness and energy.
This book is incredible. I struggle with anxiety and this spoke to me in ways I never imagined. Even if you don't have anxiety, you need to read this book. I have owned it for 3 years and read it periodically, usually when I feel I am going through a hard time and need some guidance. It helps. I cry every timeI read it too as it all resonates with me so much. I feel like I know myself better now even. I never really understood why I avoid doing all these different things in my life. Now I know it's because of my deep fear of rejection and my overwhelming desire to 'protect' myself for no real reason. It really helps you find a strength within you you didn't know existed. Everyone needs this book.
Started this book at around 4am and it is now noon and I’ve finished the book. An incredible eye opening book. I plan to read it again later on down the road
Thank you Charles for being so articulate I'm going to share your video with my friends who I've been trying to get to read Michael Singers books. You're articulate way of speaking Supersedes any Attempt at explaining I could ever do.
Have had exactly the same experience as Charles. I was so blown away by the book and his second book I organised a weekly study / practice group which has been going over a year. Only a small way into the journey but the concepts are literally game changing. Charles is right when he says you have to be ready. Unfortunately, most people are not. Many will never be.
I agree best most helpful book I’ve ever read. You do have to be ready to be open to the concepts. It did change my life. I finally was able to let go of my fear thoughts and judgements of my self and others that was driven by fear. I stopped identifying with my thoughts and feelings.
I love you....lol. So much energy and enthusiasm. Reminds me of when I was a young adult. Miss that. And the message is amazing. Haven’t seen the Oprah/Singer episodes. Watching today
I totally agree with you. BEST BOOK EVER. And you are spot on with having to be ready. I had the exact same thought when I was reading this as well. My favorite parts were unconditional happiness and keeping your heart open and watching the energies inside. Also the fire and of the heart. Its like all my pain and suffering is dissipating before my eyes. Its not that I don't feel pain; its that the pain is not a problem. Its hard for me to not buy copies for, like, everyone I know. Thanks for the great review. You should also check ut Michael Singer's videos on living mindfully.
Thanks for the review! I’m currently listening to this book and I’m amazed at all the information and can’t stop listening! Have you tried his journaling book with this ? I would like to see a review on that too!
This book changed my life in a day! I totally embodied its practice. So was ready, now a week in and I just observe. Amazing, it's my new natural. I see my thoughts as another person and I allow feelings to pass through me. Everyday I'm feeling my chakras clear, I've also nailed not needing to understand what's being felt or passed. I've surrendered and accepted😊 I am not my experiences. I am awareness! The audio book is on TH-cam.
I have been saying the same thing -- this is the most important book I have ever read. Period .If the whole world read this book, the world would be a better place. Also, don't get the idea that all you have to read this book and shazam, you're better. I'm on my seventh reading, have watched all Michael Singers pod cast, including the one with Oprah and I will continue until I can finally say "I got it". SO, if you would like to get your shit together (for the first time in your life, btw), give it a whack. You will be giving yourself the greatest gift of your lifetime.
Charles, great review. Total agreement... best book ever. As a real estate practitioner, what other books have helped you prospect for business? I've recommended this book to friends.
You have giving me confirmation on ordering this book.... It's been on my heart since I just recently came across his & Oprah's interview. Excited about this new chapter in my life. I feel GOD him self is about to do things beyond my own expectations. & I have no idea what they will be? But I SURRENDER with a open heart and GOD WILLING an BETTER MIND🙏.
This book uses a blacked statement of our thoughts and emotions are not our own- well if they are not ours who’s are they- and where do I go when I try to remove myself from them. This concept doesn’t support identity theory; according to identity theory, we are made up of many things as well as our thoughts and emotions the point here could be to rationally assess our thoughts and emotions to choose health thoughts vs unhealthy. I don’t want to loose my mind/ emotions-I want to stay sane and aware.
brandnew new I agree... like what? I think because people’s lives have an immense impact whether good or bad, a person learns from those years because it’s in us! The experience is the reality, that reality plays out in our actions and perceptions of our adult life. It’s the fortunate person who can know they are bigger than the negative thoughts etc. I have not read the book but I have personally worked on what has kept me “ stuck”. If it’s helpful as people seem to imply, that’s great. But my feelings and emotions with insightfulness is my best gauge. Basically, I have a real good radar for negative crap in this universe and plan accordingly by removing myself. Yes, I’m superwoman 😂😂👏
Just ordered his book and cannot wait to read it and review it. xx themavenlifestyle.com/ordering-from-the-cosmic-kitchen-by-dr-patricia-crane-book-recommendations-series/
