Are you experiencing slow sd card write speeds? It seems to be a common issue. I have some A2 cards that worked fine in my steam deck but then I put them in the ally and the write speeds are painfully slow. Capping at 7MB/s but really hovering between 1-3. I manually reinstalled the sd card drivers and also reformatted the card to ntfs from exfat but no luck. It’s making me lean toward upgrading to a 2tb ssd and being done with this nonsense.
@@ramontrevino3170 I tried a different sd card from my steam deck and it’s working fine. I think maybe that card is having issues. You somewhat glossed over NTFS versus exFAT. Any thoughts on that? My understanding is that exFAT can be faster for external drives. Not sure how that related to the SD slot on the Ally.
With this being a Windows device, NTFS is preferred. But exFAT can be used as well and I actually just looked into it and it seems exFAT is better for power and memory management. I think either will work fine, but I usually stick with NTFS.
exFAT allows the storage device to be used across many different platforms such as linux/android/mac - as of late many devices can read NTFS but cannot write to it. That is why external drives come preformatted as exFAT. NTFS is more reliable then exFAT but requires slightly more overhead to use as well.
Can you make a video on how to map out the buttons for steam games I’m new to pc gaming and I don’t know how to change the the layout on them, for example I booted up new Vegas and the left joystick wasn’t letting me move I had the Xbox controller turned on the settings
I believe it is always on when gaming while plugged in. From the Asus website: The ROG Ally supports bypass charging, so when you play plugged into the wall, the battery will be completely bypassed to protect its lifespan. However, there’s one other thing you can do to retain the battery’s long-term health.
@@RypperGaming so for example,, if i have a 32% battery, and plugged it in the wall while playing, it will just remain at 32% and not charge anymore? Because as you said, it is always turn on while playing game? Am i right?
@chadigerard My understanding is it will charge to your preset level. If you limit the charge to 80% in MyAsus then it will charge there and charge no more. Otherwise it goes to 100 and stops providing juice to the battery.

You are getting into another video lol. Basically there are countless ways. When you install and it asks you where, point it to the new drive letter you setup for the SD Card. Steam has an option to make another library on a separate location. Once setup you can choose which device (internal or microsd) to install to.
Same as I stated on another comment - I am following discussion that there may be an issue with the MicroSD cards on the Ally. I haven't seen them myself, but many others have. No official confirmation from Asus yet.
You’re good to play with a USH-I Micro SD. The only thing is the download is not going to be the fastest it can be, and the load times are slower. Not so slow where you’ll really tell, but side by like if 1 had USH-II and 1 had USH-I you would see the download for USH-II is faster and load the game maybe 1-5% difference. I formatted my SD Card to NTFS and all that. But, once it comes to selecting external storage on Steam or Xbox it acts like there is no external storage to select to drop games into it. HELP lol
Yes you are. Some cards may come already formatted and will work immediately. Other may need to be added to the system and formatted like in my video. If your is showing up with a drive letter and you can put games on it you are good to go!
U3 cards are rated about 3x the transfer speed of U1 cards. A2 cards have about 3-4x the read/write operations of A1 cards. Some games MAY run on a slower card. But many may have stuttering or extremely slow downloads for games. Some may have trouble even playing. You can technically use any, but dont judge the performance of the Ally based on using a slow MicroSD card. It's kind of like putting a motorcycle engine in a Ferrari.
@@RypperGaming hmm, I belive your incorrect about game performance and stuttering. PCs preload textures and shaders into system and VRAM. What I believe you're thinking of is "Direct Storage" technology. Commonly found on current Gen consoles. This technology hasn't been implemented in any meaningful way on PCs because it requires an additional chipset on motherboards that allow the GPU to bypass the CPU. Furthermore, even though DirextX 12 supposedly supports Direct Storage, no PC games would make use of it because it will limit their customer base to only those with hardware to support it. Alienating the majority of PC gamers. The only real disadvantage to slower Storage media, is loading times, as well as file transfers/downloads. This mmakes for lackluster performance, but isn't an "issue".
I have not seen that myself. I wonder if it just isnt seated well? Does it happen over and over? If so, you might want to try another MicroSD or consider replacing your device.
There are multiple reports of MicroSD card issues, but nothing official. It could be a potential issue, or it could be a slow MicroSD card. Do you know the rating on yours?
Hey! Mines all up and running but the installation speed for games is abysmal! 0-2mb/s!? I dno if I have a dodgy SD or it’s a systemic issue and more people are suffering from that same issue?
I tried Diablo IV on my MicroSD and it was slow, but Overwatch 2 and Cuphead run great. Are you running high end games on it? Also, do you know its speed? Or brand/model so I can check on it?
@@RypperGaming hey!! Playing the games is fine on it - it’s the actual installing of the games which is awful. Ie - I don’t think they are actually installing? It’s the Samsung 512gb evo plus microSD.
@@stevencastle2400 That is not the fastest card, but it still goes up to 100M so it should be decent for smaller games. Are you installing large games on it perhaps? Installing can push the IO on the drive. What game are you trying to install and which launcher?
I'll have to look at this more. I tested moving some games and got around 20-30M when moving. I don't have access to a lot of cards for extensive testing, but if I can find anything to report I will make a video.
There is a concern the MicroSD card readers are failing. Mine hasnt but others have reported it. That is one of the errors being seen. Might be worth returning for another.
Several Allys have had their card readers go bad. It could be that, or it could just be that you need to remove and reinsert the card. Sometimes it seems like it is in, but you have to make sure it clicks in.
@@RypperGaming see the thing that’s throwing me off is my Sandisk 1Tb won’t read at all but when I put in a whatever 32gb micro as it works like a charm so now I’m confused whether my thing works or not because my 1Tb from sandisk still works when I used my adapter on my ally.

I saw a post on that card today, maybe it was you. Can you get it working in any other device? I would love to report on this, but I want to make sure before I do a video on it.
@@RypperGaming yeah no I've tried it on my switch to check whether it's the card or the ally that's the problem and it wouldn't accept it in my switch and when I tried another sd card in the ally that one worked straight away so it definitely killed that sd card.

This is a dumb nuisance of windows. They're trying to make 1000s of things easier and simpler to do but such a common thing is left out. But to be fair most microsd cards come preformatted so this really is an uncommon thing.

I have a video on how to install games on your MicroSD card. It's harder than it should be, but that should help you.
My SD card doesn't show
i plugged mine in and it immediately popped up in this pc and showing it. am i good to go?
Yes you are. Some cards may come already formatted and will work immediately. Other may need to be added to the system and formatted like in my video. If your is showing up with a drive letter and you can put games on it you are good to go!
Disk management didn't see the micro card. Then what will be the problem?
Try to remove it and reinsert it first. If that doesn't work it could be your Micro SD Card reader as some units have issues.
😂need to buy another sd card A2 to test out before log case to Asus support.
@limwaichun2508 what happen ? is it worked because I have the same problem 😕
@@FDzxo not yet purchase any A2 sd card. Price a bit high. Wait for 12.12 sale XD.
After doing this process
Is it ok to remove it?
I puy my card in and it automatically came up and everything.
Then you are good to go!
@@RypperGaming You think an update came out? I just put the card in today
You keep saying performance, Exactly what performance issues will someone experience with an A1/U1 card?
Are you having issues with the mirco sd card I'm when I play for a good amount of time the sd card pops out by it self
I have not seen that myself. I wonder if it just isnt seated well? Does it happen over and over? If so, you might want to try another MicroSD or consider replacing your device.
I get disk write error after following steps while downloading a game. Any suggestions? Or anything i mightve missed?
I can’t find it here
Any solution for the extreme slow write speeds when downloading to SD card with Steam?
I'll have to look at this more. I tested moving some games and got around 20-30M when moving. I don't have access to a lot of cards for extensive testing, but if I can find anything to report I will make a video.
@@RypperGaming nice, thanks... hopefully Asus is aware and can fix this in upcoming updates.
It doesn't let me delete it
When i try to delete volume i get virtual disk manager error the request failed due to fatal device hardware error, any ideas what to do about this?
There is a concern the MicroSD card readers are failing. Mine hasnt but others have reported it. That is one of the errors being seen. Might be worth returning for another.
What if it doesn’t come up on disk management then what do we do?
Several Allys have had their card readers go bad. It could be that, or it could just be that you need to remove and reinsert the card. Sometimes it seems like it is in, but you have to make sure it clicks in.
@@RypperGaming see the thing that’s throwing me off is my Sandisk 1Tb won’t read at all but when I put in a whatever 32gb micro as it works like a charm so now I’m confused whether my thing works or not because my 1Tb from sandisk still works when I used my adapter on my ally.
Mine does not even show up in drive manager
You could unfortunately have a bad MicroSD Card reader. It has been a common occurrence. You can also try removing and adding it back if you haven't already.
I formatted it and i cnt see it on steam app the memory card so i can transfer my large files to my micro sd 😢 anyone know why?
I have another video about installing games on the MicroSD. You have to create a library. Check it out for more info.
My unit just killed my brand new 500 gb sd card now if i put the sd card in it doesnt even acknowledge it and tried it in my switch and doesnt read it....any ideas or have i just thrown 40 pounds away 😫
I have seen several people posting on reddit about their Sandisk cards stop working. They say they work on other PCs though. Is yours a Sandisk perhaps?
@@RypperGaming no its a Samsung evo plus, brand new as well.and its like its just completely killed it
I saw a post on that card today, maybe it was you.
Same problem, my samsung evo got fried too. I changed the sd on other devices but it won't even be recognised.... this is crazy, I pay like 60 euro for my 512 evo
🎉🎉
✌🏼💨👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
i gonna cancel my asus rog plenty battery issues compare the steam deck
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love you
Thanks, but don't tell my wife.
This is a dumb nuisance of windows. They're trying to make 1000s of things easier and simpler to do but such a common thing is left out.
But to be fair most microsd cards come preformatted so this really is an uncommon thing.
I thought it was too, but a lot of people have asked for a video on it. I think some people moved their Micro SD cards from their Steam Decks also.
Fgs my sd wont format to ntfs
If it won't, you should still be able to use it as FAT32 or ExFAT.
@@RypperGamingye exfat but everyone saying to use ntfs as it’s better
