    I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

      Maybe look at some pictures of something that makes you happy whenever you start an assignment. I am particularly fond of pictures of otters and the little girl I nanny is cheered up by pictures of weasels, but you can branch out from the mustelidae. Like sloths or baby turtles or hairless cats.
      You could also eat one piece/bite of your favorite candy per assignment. I have a friend who did that until college, then it became too bad for his health because of how much more work there was lol

      I honestly wish that all rails had that because when I see Braille on a wall across from stairs I feel like it’s not going to be easily found, if you can’t see it you have to put your hands all over the wall and most buildings here that have braille don’t put it in the same place as the building next door.

      I get I'm replying to super old comments but I just noticed the other day that the lift in my building has braille on the buttons, and the 0 button (G on some lifts) sticks right out, I'm guessing so it can be easily felt for a blind person just wanting to get down to the main exit so they don't have to feel all the braille on each individual button ^_^
      Never known a blind person to live here but plenty of disabled people, I'm currently trying to get moved to a ground floor flat somewhere cuz when the lift breaks I struggle to climb the 3 floors to my flat 0_o
      Especially with my dogs, my SD (technically AD here cuz I'm in the uk) is a 9lb chihuahua, so technically he's easy to pick up, but some days I have to carry him up the stairs if I hear someone else in the stair cuz there's more than one dog in the block that wants to kill him 0_o and I can't even walk up as it is let alone carry an extra 9lbs 0_o
      Plus now I've got a heavy lab pup as well to be a future SD, she's too young to walk 3 flights of stairs 3 times a day, and I defo couldn't carry her if the lift breaks again :/
      And I'm waaaay off topic now lmao
      But yeh I think it's super cool that they actually put braille in the lift here :)

    Memorizing the cruise ship reminded me of this...when I was a teenager I went to a church that had a blind organist. He spent most of his time riding the city busses around town, so he could give directions to pretty much anywhere because he memorized the bumps in the road. We had a visiting missionary one week who went along to their nursing home visit after the church service. The group all took separate cars and the pastor told the missionary that Gene (the organist) would go along and give him directions. The missionary was skeptical but amazed by how well he gave the directions.

      The cruise ship IS wheelchair accessible. It was so easy to get on and off. There is a form you fill out when booking reservations to let them know what assistance you may need. Not all ports are wheelchair accessible, but the itinerary will list which ones are if you want to explore. Highly recommended. I’ve been on 2 cruises within the last 3 years and a planning another one soon.

      @FiddlebirdBlue 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I can't speak from personal experience, but as an anthropology major and based on the other comments in this thread, I would postulate that many cruise ships might be more wheelchair accessible than we might initially imagine because cruises are popular with the elderly and many elderly people are also wheelchair users. Does anyone know?

    • @katherinemorelle7115
      @katherinemorelle7115 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got a lot of wheelchair user friends who say that cruises are definitely the way to go for an accessible vacation.
      But I’m like.... eh, I’m worried about getting sick. Because I know cruise ships can be Petri dishes - as I’m sure we’ve all learned in the last three or four months.
      But my best mate still wants me to go on a cruise with her- she went on one with her hubby last year and loved it, and she said she could see how accessible it was, whereas hotels usually aren’t that great. I mean, I know people in very fancy and big motorised chairs, and they don’t have issues, where they usually do in hotels (or even houses that don’t have wide enough doors or hallways).

    If they can't find a way for the normal rooms to be accessible They should have a room that is made for people that are deaf/blind, so everything is in braille or has a voice. And so it is wheelchair accessible.

    • @FiddlebirdBlue
      @FiddlebirdBlue 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      From what I understand, it would probably just be easier/better to make all the rooms accessible, especially since she only talked about the touchscreens and those can easily be worked around if they fix up the app. If they specialized some rooms, they would at some point feasibly lose money not booking it for a passenger without disabilities, or have more people who need those rooms than they have specialized rooms. It might also be more expensive to design and implement multiple room types than to just make all accessible. That's why all ATMs have Braille keys - even the ones in the drive-through.

    • @ngrosskurth
      @ngrosskurth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unrealistic to have every room be wheelchair accessible. The size difference between the two rooms is surprisingly different. The amount of guests you could have on a ship would be cut dramatically and by extension the amount of money the cruise line makes.

    • @FiddlebirdBlue
      @FiddlebirdBlue 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think it's because she is very happy. I've noticed that some people, like my childhood pastor and most of my college professors, are so genuinely happy - in large part because they do what they love - that they almost give off a calming energy, even if they're a very animated person, and they are also very warm, lovely people I can literally listen to for hours. (I'm not a big 'energy' person but I'm not so married to science that I'll lie to myself about what I observe.)
      Obviously I also know lots of people who are unhappy or depressed or only middling happy or stuck in a crap job and have these fine qualities, but there does seem to be a correlation of some kind between "significant personal fulfillment" and the specific vibe I'm describing, as of Captain Kate.

It’s so neat to see where gallop pees because it was a question I had while on the ship! I was also there in the club the night Gallop was dancing! He is amazing ❤️❤️ I had no clue about the braille under the railings. That’s so neat. The app actually had controls for your tv and lights but it was a tiny button to get to the control page... so it wouldn’t have been easy to find especially with how the accessibility features were terrible. Well they had the guest if they wanted to they could wear blind folds during the dinner. I had two tables of six wear there bind folds all night and we had to tell them exactly where there food was on there plates and put all the plates the exact same way on the tables. This event was so much fun and I’m so glad I did it cause before that I didn’t know how to properly interact with blind people when they are in a restaurant.

      I wish we could do this in everyday life but at least I know my favorite places know I'm vegan & will ask me which of the usual orders I'd like & tell me when they get new stuff I might like. But to have like a Starbucks card you can scan where it comes up with allergies, needs and diet stuff would be great. Maybe even having favorites and stuff in there could work you could scan it first & then be like "I'll have the last order" & it's on the card. Would also make those who can't communicate easily have it easier as it could have a whole "hi I'm x, I can't speak but my usual orders are xyz and I'll hold up 1, 2 or 3 fingers to indicate which of these I'd like" kinda thing. Would mean even if the staff don't know asl etc they can still easily communicate and such. Especially when it comes to food or clothing stores this would help.

    Molly goes on a cruise ship, of course it’s the one with the female Instagram captain 😂😂😂. Also LOVE her!

    This was the most awesome interview, I’ve been on 10 cruises and never met the Captain. You were so lucky!!!

    I have been on like 8 cruises, and have seen service dogs. I have ALWAYS wondered where they go potty- so thank you for this!! Glad you guys had a great time and the ship was accessible for you!
