Just plugged this unit in tonight, it is complicated to learn but no more than any other multi effects unit on the market for anything else. Incredible is my verdict after 6 hours of playing around, absolutely love it. Thanks
Thanks! We know it can be a daunting learning curve and it's something we strive in each product generation to get better at helping users get through.
I'm here just to say thank you.I set up the gear of my band and now we can just choose a preset song press a button and voice, 2 fractals and a marc bass multiamp are controlled by the automations of a vl3x. Amazing.
I'm just getting started doing solo guitar/vocal performances with backing tracks, and I just think it needs to be said- what you guys have created here is absolutely incredible. The flexibility seems almost unlimited, and the features and options are exactly what a performer needs (and then some). The only very minor thing I would like to have (at the moment anyway) is a 15-20 band graphic eq for both the tracks and the vocals, to really fine tune the sound in a user-friendly way (some of the backing tracks are too bass-heavy, or the drums are too tinny, etc etc). But in all honesty, that is a very minor gripe. This thing is absolutely fantastic- you can even use a separate output for the track clicking, which allows you to send the clicking through a specific mixer channel and only through the monitor and not the main speakers. This is the first music product I've ever bothered to give feedback on, and I dont even know a quarter of what it can do yet- but I'm blown away by its sheer adaptability. Its not just that there's a solution to all your needs (eg stopping the track clicking from going to the audience)- there's usually two or three ways to solve your issue. You guys should be really proud of yourselves for what you have created here, this is an incredible bit of kit for a gigging musician.
Hey Tony! Thank you so much for your feedback! It's great to hear appreciations and suggestions from our valued customers! Keep having fun with your gear and we can't wait to hear more from you :)
Could you help me with this question, please? As you can use a separate output for clicking on the track (which I have previously prepared by clicking to the right and the song to the left, to send the click only through the headphones and not the speakers. I'm going crazy and I can't find the form!
@@solucioncreativax882 I am really sorry to say that I cannot help with this. I stopped gigging a year ago and I just can't remember the full details about how I had the unit set up. But it seems like your challenge here involves the tracks themselves and the mixing desk, not the voice live unit. I do remember that on my backing tracks, they were set up as stereo, the click was always on the left side and the music was on the right. You can set this up with the tracks in the karaoke-tracks website. The left part of the stereo track, with only the click, is then fed through the VL3 separately from the right channel, which has only the music. They come out of the VL3 still separate, and can be fed into separate channels on the mixing desk. The challenge then is how you stop the click channel going to the main speakers, and keep it in the headphones mix. And that probably depends on what mixer you are using?
Could you please instruct me how to separate my backing track output from the vocal output? You explained that I could do it by using the guitar outputs, but I can't seem to find this option.
I have to say, after watching this, I wish I had known about your product before I bought my current looper(rc202). I’ve been bumping up against the limitations of the machine. Your unit does everything I want a looper to do. Brilliant. I will be getting one soon. I wish your company had a bigger presence in the US.
I just bought one last week and it is amazing Can i ask to consider putting any document with very simple step by step doing an example of all functions? As well as a list of all the effects and patches available with its numbers and a little description One more thing is allowing the looper to work with the backing track .. that will be super
Unfortunately with so many presets we can't do descriptions of everything. If you want more in depth looks at the vocal/guitar and looping sections, check out the VL3 videos, which totally apply to the VL3X. Thank You Crag and Tom the info You put on TH-cam makes it easy for Me to understand My new Voice Live EXTREEM before it arrives how to use .Great videos You Both and Yours be more blessed.
Hi guys, this unit looks great. Can you also have a metronome track along with your backing track to send out separately to in ear monitors for other band members? Can you automate the metronome for tempo changes? Thanks.
Unfortunately we don't do beat detection/metronome within VL3X for backing tracks. There's a met for loops and such, but that's in a different mode. Lots of folks load in backing tracks that have mono music on one side and mono metronome on the other, then send the backing tracks out the guitar outputs, one side to FOH for the tracks and the other side to monitors for the click.
Great, that is very helpful. I've got a VL3X arriving Friday I'm going to be setting up that way. Can I have one output backing track, one output click, one out processed vocals and one out processed guitar, for a total of four separate outs? Thank you.
Hi, I updated my unit to firmware 2.2.01 build 355 and successfully imported a backing track as described in this video. I then assigned output>Guitarjacksmode to "backing track". My backing track is stereo, mixed from my DAW with click on left and track on right. At first, both tracks were coming out of one output, until BOTH L&R jacks were plugged in. Now my click and backing track are separate. Thanks guys, this works very well and I'm excited to use this unit for our next gig :)
I appreciate the effort made here to explain the functions of using the backing tracks. What would have been more valuable from a learning perspective is the show the feature in actual use/performance instead of just explaining what the knobs do. The backing track feature is a valuable feature. Unfortunately I feel the 'user friendly' implementation of it is not where I would like to see it. Definitely a nice unit.
I totally get what you're saying but I don't think there is a simple way to do that. I mean they could walk through some basics, but every musician has unique/different needs. From multitracks and 16 channel builds to users using it for reggae, rock, jazz, funk and even electronic dance music, the possibilities are almost endless with this thing. I did see some killer live demos from NAMM. I think ultimately, you just have to sit down and play with it. As they mentioned in the end, you eventually train yourself so well that it becomes second nature. I'm sure some live demos exist out there on TH-cam land. If I can master it(and I will), buying mine this weekend>.Then I'll post some videos and report back.
@@LuigiCasarettoCA Thanks Luigi for your reply. I hear ya on the different needs of each musician. If I am going to spend the money for a unit like this ( I already have a guitar multi effects unit) I guess I need to know more about how it is used live. My setup currently can use backing tracks, but they have to be triggered from a separate unit, so it would be nice to have an all in one solution. Look forward to you posting some videos
Hi Folks, just bought the Device and I´m still not completely in it. I miss the possibility to adjust Low, Mids and Highs per EQ for the vocals. Just found the possibility to do that in the effects for the vocals. The next question is if there is a method to change the guitar amps during the recordings. For example using a Clean-Amp and for the Solo change to a Distorded Amp. Just didn´t found the description in the manual and the videos. So please excuse my bad english and my blindness for not finding those descriptions. Great tool, still amazed and hopefully a little smarter after the answers. Greatings from germany. Juergen
+go2kl You can approach the multi-guitar sound situation in a couple of ways. If you create multiple presets (or steps within a preset) you can change from a clean to distorted amp style by switching between the presets (steps). Another way to do it is to use the Drive block to add pre-gain to an otherwise clean amp and use it as more of an overdrive pedal. Just be sure to reduce the post-gain when you increase the pre-gain so it doesn't get a lot louder than your clean sound.
can some one confirm what the file import format should be please? I don't have VL3X at the moment but the manual says 16bit 48k and here on the video at 2:30 they say 24bit 48K
This is great for a duo but things missing for a band. Most bands use amps or high end modellers, so they won't need the amp sims. What is missing for bands is set list mode where you load up all your songs for the night and they play in order for that night. The other thing is have custom harmonies where you can choose each 12 notes of the scale and what their harmonies will be. The next thing is have better delays with more parameters. Ping pong for example that you can add modulation, high and low cut, and other types of delays. More than one delay would be good also. Several types of delays too. You get the idea. Bands are different than single acts or duo. Put one of these out and I am there. I do have a Voice Live 2, so I know the unit.
Hmm. The only way I've been able to sneak a CC out of the product is to use a "dummy" effect. Each effect has its own CC associated with it. If you choose an effect that you don't normally use, maybe rhythmic or something, you can turn the effect level to 0 or off, but still let it technically turn on/off that effect block. Then, set your metronome to respond to the incoming CC from he VL3 for start stop. It gives you like a "faux" MIDI cc on a switch. With that particular setup (most folks use if for something like page turn) would be trying to keep sync with your metronome and the backing track. Even a slight change in tempo over the song will be terribly off by the end. Some people use backing tracks that are dual-mono with a mono mix of the track on one side and the metronome/click on the other side of the stereo file they import into VL3X. You could pretty quickly make something like that up in a DAW, even having your met come on/off as you please during the song. Hopefully something along those lines could help. :)
Hello guys ... I need help ... in my performance recordings the volume of the voice and guitar are very low, almost inaudible, while the volume of the backing track is as high as it should be. The outputs volume for the PA is correct and the sound is balanced. Only when recording via USB am I having this problem. How do I balance the volumes to get a good recording? Thanks.
Hello. We sound engineers need to be able to use Treble and bass controls for voice/guitar/and the end result PLEASE give use these in the next update. Thank you.
Finally I just heard here that the import file should be the best way 24 bit 48 kHz! In the Manual it is stated: 16 bit 48 kHz which is quite unusual! So, Bravo - you're a winner and this great news won me as a purchaser of this great gear! Now the problem is that the TC Helicon Bulgarian distributor doesn't have this model but the VL3 only! Any suggestions how to get it as quick as possible in Sofia, BG?
So exciting to not have to do the tap dance, ( I thought ) but if I'm understanding this correctly you still have to tap dance to change presets on the step control, Right?
great stuff guys, i`ve been waiting on this video as i wanted to have a heads up on this unit when it hits the shops...only 11 days to go till i can get mine.. i`m gonna kick ass with this unit... i`m like a little boy on christmas morning :0) oooooooh i cant wait
Does TC Helicon have any sort of method for users to make suggestions for future updates or products? I have been using the VL3 Extreme for a little over a year.
I'm a Propellerhead Reason guy. Can I just dump a complete audio wav file in, trigger it and play along? It seems that simple. But now I wanna try all these cool features out. Oh and what's the cap on storage? How many song files can I save?
thx for the tutorial i got vl2 vl3 and vl3 xtreme whats next im dying to find out lol Graig i was wrong about u being a bad singer all the best and thanks for the tutorial a big hello to u too Tom a great musician ...
Hey guys, great tutorial, very helpful :-). I apologize if there is an obvious answer for this but you guys know best so I'll ask you. I use a lot of backing tracks and therefore generally use my backing track list as a go to rep list on what to play next. I understand if you select a preset it will auto load the backing track, but what would be the best way to load a backing track from the playlist and have it choose the corresponding preset? When I load the backing track, it stays on whatever preset I was on previously.
Hi Tod, There isn't a way to reverse correlate the BT to the preset. Either the preset loads the BT or you can choose a BT from a list in the BT player, but that doesn't change the current preset. It's an interesting feature idea though!

Thx for this pedal. Please in the future software developpement, add an octave effect so that I can create a bass guitar from my acoustic instrument for looping purposes. Thx.
There's an octaver in the guitar effects section. It's monophonic so you can do one string at a time, but it will work on your acoustic. It's not a bass simulator per-se, but can definitely work for looping.
Aloha and thanks for the great videos. Can you set the harmony presets associated with a backing track, to respond harmonically appropriately to the music on the backing track?
Sure can. The backing track can feed NP. We added that feature in a firmware update. On the preset associated with the backing track, go into the Harmony edit screen and change NatPlay SRC to Track/USB. You can do that on each preset that has a track that you want to guide Harmony. If you want to do that globally and always only have the BT guide harmony, you can set that in the Setup menu on the System tab under Gloabl NatPlay Source.
Mahalo, (thank you)! I love this thing. Made several super realistic sounding Gregorian Chant presets, using a vocal track on my DAW as the source file for VL3X, while I tweaked effects. Aloha!
Hi guys I perform in a duo with a live drummer and my VL3X, both using In-Ears and I was wondering the best way for us to both have a monitor feed from the Voicelive where we can both hear the metronome Would a headphone splitter from the headphone output be the way? Drummer also has a Roland SPDX so maybe we could midi sync and we both have the same click? Thanks for any help. Phil
Hi Guys. Thank you so much for your in depth tutorials. I wondered if someone may be able to guide me how I to alter the recording level to a USB stick. I have tried recording my performance directly to a plug in stick by pressing simultaneously the Genre and setup buttons together with no problems. But the sound in many places is clipping and distorting. I'm hoping that someone may be able to help and guide me to the correct setting that will alter the recording level. Many thanks.
did you get bro? i have a similar problem... in my case the backing track volume is high and the voice & guitar volume is very low... let me know if you fix the problem!
Thanks. Can I treat a backing track as a "step" for a preset? For example, for a "Song1" preset, I have a verse track (stored in Verse preset) for Step 1/2, and a chorus track (stored in a Chorus preset) as Step 2/2. Then I can just press the Step button to switch between the 2 steps? It's different from sequencing since now I can play as many verses or choruses as i want, in any order, live.
Hi,Tom, I'm a singer from Brasil, and i`m really impressed by VoiceLive 3 Extreme (VL3X). Please,i would like to know, where and when i can buy it? any site?cause here at brasil nobody seems to import tc- helicon, nobody even has the VoiceLive 3 . I would like to buy VoiceLive 3 Extreme (VL3X),how can buy?direct with?or any site? cause i would like to use it already in the recording of my cd,and shows, i`ll be waiting for and answer, Thanks for the attencion.
Here's another odd question about something I encountered while using a preset that has several steps, within it. When using the step down (far left lower) button, (while step one is selected in the steps screen), resulted in the unit leaving the original preset and going to the next preset down, in the list of presets. I was hoping that doing that would, "round robin", to the highest (last) step in the song. It round robins the steps going forward, but not going backward? This could be a problem during performance.
Ah yep, we have felt that same pain. It's a bit of an odd one, because you'd need some sort of other button to exit the "steps mode" cycling if you couldn't just back out of that particular preset from Step 1. It's one of those things we'd like to do better and will look at for future.
@@tchelicon When I try to go to your site for support, there's a lock & it won't load! I'm STILL trying to learn how to MIDI connect so the VL3X can reference my chords from my Korg Chronos to know what key I'm in WITHOUT altering the sound of the keyboard. The address you provide in the manual won't load...it shows a lock. Help? Please?
would be nice to get the dry vocal with the recording and have the interface show up on my pc so i can flick through dry samples with my saved presets like a ez mix plugin
It's something we're looking at for future flagship products for sure. It's not possible on VL3 to send a full mix and dry. That said, if you have the unit set to mono output, I think (might be mistaken so don't quote me) that the USB audio follows suit and gives you full mix mono on one side and dry on the other.
Are there and can you use any External 'Switches'? It 'really' Looks and 'Feels' like you 'need', more, and/or 'rethink' the Pedal Design? With both of these Guys INPUT, especially and 'End User' like Tom.
Thanks for the Reply. Good to 'know'. I want one 'so bad'. I'm really into TONIC - YOU WANTED MORE and several others, and I could do 'very Good Harmony' with Emerson Hart, but his 'Pitch' is Naturally 'Higher' than 'mine', I'm more in a Baritone 'range' ala Jim Morrison, though I've surprised myself sometimes 'singing' the really High Parts with Don Henley on some Eagles song. Having 'Pitch Correction', especially 'at first', for doing 'solo' Acoustic Gigs, I 'feel' will 'Greatly' Help 'me', Reach, Stay-ON, Pitch, while I get more 'comfortable' singing in 'Public', less 'nervous', build Confidence, etc., which all those can 'factor' Against you when 'singing'. Here's me singing along with Tonic on 'You Wanted More', Capturing via Quicktime in my MacBook Pro, while having 'their Live Video' on Screen as well. I'm playing into and thru my Studio One DAW, but you're only hearing the 'Plucking' of my Strings, thru the 'little' Mic on the Mac. I couldn't get iMovie to work right for me and 'add' an Audio Track of Guitar 'in'. So, its best I could do with 'limited' Tech. It's a fun Experiment, anyway. th-cam.com/video/kFocg8dN5Vg/w-d-xo.html
After you have imported your backing track, added your effects and stored the result and now want to play your backing track live and add your live vocal and guitar, what output or outputs are used to play your backing track through, say a PA system? What I'm getting at is, is the stereo of your original backing track preserved?
Yep, if you have the output of VL3X set to stereo, your BT is simply played back as it was when you imported it. If you set the unit to mono, it will be mono summed along with any other stereo stuff like vocal and guitar reverbs.
Hi guys! thanks for your tutorials! they really help rather than me just reading the pdf files of my vl3x. I'm just wondering, using the harmony of the vl3x, is it possible for the unit to follow the key from the backing track that is imported or from the USB? It would really be neat to have that so that I won't have to plug an mp3 player into the "Aux" port for the harmony to follow the chord/key.
Yep, you can use the backing track as a NaturalPlay source. Alternatively, you can pre-set the key/scale in any preset. If the key doesn't modulate in the backing track, it can be more straightforward to just associate the track with the preset, then set the key/scale. Each time you load the preset, it'll be in the right key.
Thanks! I just did exactly that and it came handy in gigs. I just have to assign a preset for every song. I am still adjusting and experimenting with the effects. There is so much you can do with this monster! I use it on my saxophone with a wireless mic, and sing thru it when singing backup.. there is a lot of difference using it with voice and thats the challenge. By the way, how many presets can I save on my VL3X? How can I make my own preset and not overwriting over the presets made by tc helicon?
Forgot one thing... Can you play sequences directly from USB stick or the device must have it "in the box" to be played ? When I say sequence I mean "backing track" plus recorded automation... Thank you.
Can I make a whole backing track on this unit without a computer? How much control do I have over splitting the what goes on the monitor and the guitar/vocal outs? I would like to make this to do backing tracks for bass, vocals, and a click track for the drummer and myself. Some songs we do won’t sync up well with a click track. Is there a way to put our own discrete cues on in ear monitors?
Is there a workaround to use backing tracks and looper ? For live performance it would be great to use some pre recorded aspects in the BT and then loop and build as you go?
Unfortunately we aren't able to run the looper and backing track player simultaneously for both CPU/DSP type constraints and also because we have no way to effectively sync the loops to the backing track. It's an awesome idea though and certainly something we'll try to work towards for future products.
so what do you suggest to playback backing tracks at the same time your vl3 controls loops and normal items; leaving full live control up/dn buttons free ? Yes you stated not enough buttons. ok so will vlx v 4. add more buttons and allot more foot buttons ! . Then need volume control for loops, backing tracks and live ( x3).
Is it possible to use VL3X once you've recorded the backing track to have it "listen" to a live performance of the same song as the one previously recorded in backing tracks and let it adjust to the real live performance in order to step in with the verse or chorus arrangements made in the backing track version???Hopefully, this question was understood.
Can the VL3X be daisy chained, in other words, can I use one as master and a 2nd VL3X as slave? I want to put backing tracks in the master and have it trigger vocal effects for both master and slave at proper moments in a song.
Hello, can I connect a volume pedal to my voicelive extrême ? And can I control the volume of the all backing tracks with an expression pedal? Thank you so much.
I'm trying to avoid singing the same part, over and over again, while I work on vocal presets and effects to use, (automated), in a backing track of guitar.
At the moment, I can only think of running a USB audio track into the vocal effects, which you can do by choosing USB as your mic type, but syncing the two will be a bit of an issue. You'd probably need to start at the beginning each time, which could make it a bit tedious. Definitely an interesting use case and something I've run into while programming as well! Not sure we can do much about it in VL3X, but it's something to think about for future products with track capability.
Mahalo! I'm running my DAW, into VL3X and programming presets that way, so I only have to sing a part once, then work on the effects I'm looking for, for hours. Love this machine!
Is it possible to simply plug in a USB preloaded with backing tracks @ the same time auto-dial in the vocal/guitar effect changes/effects desired etc? Not being very Tech Savvy - this is probably a really dumb-ass question so apologies in advance 😊. Secondly - Can you recommend a robust stand for use in a live forum for the unit? Regards
Good morning. My question is this; Is it possible to be able to play a headphones while playing a backing track? I know that in the loop option it can be done but I would like to know if this metronome option is also while using the backing track mode. Thank you.
So, on the note below, and sorry if this is covered before, but I have tried to import a 24 bit track and the unit just locked up, it worked importing the 16 bit but I would rather use 24 if possible. My harmony function also doesn't seem to be working properly it seems random it won't show majors and minors at the same time... Anyhow I contacted support and their response was just to send it in. I was wondering if there was any advice or fix you may suggest? Or maybe something I'm missing? Helpful video though, thank you!
+Andy Y Hmm, not sure there. You can't have both major and minor scales simultaneously if that's what you were trying to do. Can you post a link to your 24bit track? We'll try and import it into our unit and if it doesn't work we can check the file out.
Can I use the automation for stereo piano and voice separately.?. while the backing track is quiet? (we don't need backing tracks in our band, but drummer has a click)... But I need effects for voice and piano... (the piano is not necessary, but would be nice to make some effects too.) Thank you very much!!!
Yes, you can automate to a "silent" backing track, but it still needs to be a recording of "nothing" for us to play back and record the automation to. We don't have a separate automation function that works without a backing track. In that type of case, I'd be looking at sending MIDI to the unit instead.
Hey guys! I'm still tying to "master" the VL3; this product is intriguing yet overwhelms my tiny brain. Any advice on how to record backing tracks and where to begin with that? I have a song list of over 250 songs; the prospect of making tracks seems out of reach, especially because I have no clue HOW but I LOVE the idea of programming all the hits. Thanks for the video and always raising the bar!
Jocelyn Oldham Heya Jocelyn, we often use a site called "Karaoke-Version" that has a "custom backing track" option where you can select which instruments are part of the track. Once you've paid for the track (seemingly about $3 each on average) you can go back and tweak the levels/mix/parts as many times as you want. The quality of the files/tracks varies because it's submitted from lots of different composers. It's like the "as made famous by" versions of songs you'd find in Guitar Hero etc. I'm sure there are more sites than just the one I mentioned, but it's got a lot of tracks, which is a good starting point. www.karaoke-version.com/custombackingtrack/
TC-Helicon so cool! Just checked out the site. I never knew this existed though somehow already had a login to the site... go figure. ha. Do you know if once you choose your customization can you go back and change it after and add an extra instrument or change the levels? Can't find any info about that. I have to play My Sweet Lord for a wedding Sat and having issues singing the semi-overlaping backup vocals AND key change so can't loop them!! This might be my answer and just in the knick of time! And might just take my performance to the next level and get that extreme! THANKS!
Jocelyn Oldham Yep, after you've paid the 3 bucks you can go back to any song you've purchased and remix it or take out/add instruments as many times as you want and re-download it. We do that for different variations based on what we need at the time.
+Jocelyn Oldham Another site is songgalaxy.com... they offer multiple options for songs. The tracks are a bit more expensive, but they are studio recorded. Also, if you go with the multi-track option they offer a free downloadable desktop mixer so you can remix and even transpose the tracks. In USD the price I have paid so far for the multitrack versions is $13.
Is there a way to adjust the backing track playback output volume on the unit itself so as to be balanced in volume with your performance? You know, just in case your backing track was recorded at too low a volume?
hi great video. I just purchased VL3X and I like to use the automation for the live show but the problem is I don't want any back track play during the show, cuz we are the full rock band! I just came with the idea to record the metronome of the songs and use them as back tracks and record the automations on them. also I should put the VL3X beside the drummer, so he can play each of the back tracks (metronomes) and others should sync theirselves with the drummer and FX automations will turn on exactly where we wanted. Now the problem is here which I want to seperate the outputs of the metronome sound (as I imported instead of back tracks) and the vocals FX sound! I mean I want the drummer only hear the metronome sound and the audiance only hear the vocals and Automations FX! is there any way to do that?!
+Hadi Kiani With that type of setup, I'd keep the VL3X near you (just for management quickly if anything goes wrong) and send the drummer the backing track via either the headphone output (turned down in the main outs) or via the guitar output (set to backing tracks). That way, you can avoid the audience hearing the click.
Hey I have a question that i really am struggling with, is it possible on the VL3X to use more than one doubler on a given preset. I wanna remap Umod to a second doubler or second reverb with totally different settings in addition to ones already in the preset. Can i do it or do i have the limitation in DSP of only ONE doubler/delay/reverb/harmony effect per preset? Thanks :)
This product looks AMAZING :-D I love my VoiceLive Play GTX but this looks, pardon my expression, THE NUTS!!!! Can I ask a question? Can you add loops onto a backing track? SO say you have a drum backing track, could you play a four bar piano loop and have that play with the backing? Does that make sense? Thanx :-) x
+Mike Vaughan You can't run a backing track and loop simultaneously, but in the case you described, you could certainly bring a drum loop into the looper and loop alongside that. As long as the drum loop is an even number of beats and loops well audio wise, you can create all sorts of stuff on the other tracks. Here's the tutorial for loop import: th-cam.com/video/ralMeYpiOe4/w-d-xo.html And a vid Craig did some song building from a loop he found on a free loop website: th-cam.com/video/bYOuQS6Rn8s/w-d-xo.html Hopefully those will give you some ideas :)
Sure, you could connect the outputs of the Trio into the Aux input of the VL3X. Or perhaps run the guitar output from VL3X into the Trio. You'd need to mess around a bit with the "what goes first" setup to make sure you give the Trio the inputs it needs and then mix those to the VL3 in the way you want. Sorry I don't have a clearer answer. We don't have a Trio here to give a direct setup instruction.
Hi, is it possible to copy all the automation made to backing tracks (ie: automated guitar changes from vs to ch ect ) from one VL3X to another VL3X ? Thanks in advance
I just ran an experiment - created a 24bit track and imported to my VLC3X. Then, exported it and... drum roll please... it's 32bit float! Which tells me that's the native file format. I'm happy with that. Just wish you'd tell us.
hi guys, apart from preset options if I want to browse through my backing tracks quickly on stage...how do i do that? is there a way where i cam see them as a list and browse and play any one of them through footswitch? also will the backing track play with all my vocal effects presaved in it?
Yep sure can. On any preset that has a backing track associated, you can go into what would normally be the "loop layer". There, you can go into a menu that allows you to scroll up/dn through all the BT's. The high level concept for relationship between presets and tracks is that the preset is the master. So, the vocal/guitar effects and backing track or loops can be associated with the preset. It loads things up when the preset loads. If you want to do automation, that's saved with the preset. That way, you can have different presets using the same backing track but with different automations.
Hello, does it possible , during a song with a backing track, to send midi CC and PC to an external device either than automate the presets of the VL3 ?
Many thank....how can y calibrate the microphone output louther as the backing track .....i know now how i can calibrate the volume of backing track but i need to know How i calibrate the output of my presets/microphone louther...
I've recorded all of my input performances and backed them up to a USB thumb drive. In the event that my VL3X dies or gets stolen and I need to retrieve everything, how do you retrieve the input performance packages from the USB drive?
I just started the video but ... I am thinking this is like other TC stuff where I run Guitar and Vox through it? Can my soundman get my guitar and vox and the jam track on separate out puts? or does it all come out blended ???
+Bflatest VL3X got updated with several routing modes. I think one of them will likely cover your setup. Here's a link: www.tc-helicon.com/en/products/voicelive-3-extreme/support/ The diagrams start on roughly page 190'ish
When an effect is turned on or off via automation during a backing track, does it also send a MIDI CC message as it would if the button was pressed manually?
Hi, i'm wondering why can't i assign loop screen enter and out button to any button but just step? In this case it would be easier to get in loops and also use steps.
Hi the voicelive can play tracks by itself, I would like to know how to configure that when you press play on the voicelive it shows the lyrics via midi. I tried to do it with midi learn but when I pressed the play button on the voicelive it did not recognize any command to assign it on external midi app. I only managed to make a 3-switch pedal connected as a footswitch to the voicelive assign play stop, and next song successfully, and it controls perfect to play the song track in the external midi app, but if I only want to use the tracks that are in my voicelive and that via midi shows the lyrics of the assigned song, I can't find a solution to this?
I don't use backing tracks but what I do is I record loops for many of my Presets which are saved on my VL3X. As i play my songs, I then activate these loops. Also , I have several songs where I have many steps saved to the Preset ...for different harmonies etc. It would be great if this could be something that I could automate instead of having to hit several buttons on my Switch 6 that I hit throughout a song. Is this something that might be added on the next firmware update. Just wondering. Thank you .
+zeo bas Steps are created the same way any other preset editing is done. The only difference is that the step is contained within a preset. The work is the same, it's more about whether you store as a step or as a separate preset.
I tried all that you said as in how to load a backing track but it didn't work no tracks found on stick according to the helicon Someone said the the helicon comes without a sd card and you need to fit one to load tracks on ?
Hi :) great demo Is it possible to use drum loops ? and is it possible to change / tap tempo on these imported loops ? If i import drum loops, is it possible to name the loops ? I got the BT part, but for some songs i just want to have a simpel drumloop :-)
Heya! Yes you can use drum loops, though I'd use the looper rather than the backing track player for that. You can't rename loops in the product, so I'd set their names on the files before import. You can't re-time the loops inside the product. The tempo is set by calculating the file length for 4/4 time. You can set the looper to "Free" mode and disable sync if you want to though.
Yep there's a mixer page that has controls for guitar, looper, aux, monitor, USB, metronome etc. The only control we don't have is a vocal level, since the system treats the vocal as the reference level and you adjust everything relative to it. Typically, you'd get the level correct for the vocal output to the PA and then mix in guitar/aux/loop levels with that. Hope that helps a bit!
forth time asking. i have just taken my vl3x back t0 the shop because there was no jack options for me to map the backing tracks to the guitar out puts. i want to EQ backing tracks seperate. According to the manual on page 160, they should be in the guitar out put tab but the option is not there. The shop gave me a new vl3x. Guess What ITS NOT THERE. please tell me
Just wanted to say these tutorials are exactly what we need!!! keep making them PLEASE!!!
Do the backing tracks come through the vocal output? Like, if I was using this at a show, would my vocals and tracks be on the same channel?
Could you please instruct me how to separate my backing track output from the vocal output? You explained that I could do it by using the guitar outputs, but I can't seem to find this option.
I have to say, after watching this, I wish I had known about your product before I bought my current looper(rc202). I’ve been bumping up against the limitations of the machine. Your unit does everything I want a looper to do. Brilliant. I will be getting one soon. I wish your company had a bigger presence in the US.
I just bought one last week and it is amazing
Can i ask to consider putting any document with very simple step by step doing an example of all functions?
As well as a list of all the effects and patches available with its numbers and a little description
One more thing is allowing the looper to work with the backing track .. that will be super
Unfortunately with so many presets we can't do descriptions of everything. If you want more in depth looks at the vocal/guitar and looping sections, check out the VL3 videos, which totally apply to the VL3X.

What a goofy couple of intelligent helpful guys! What a nifty Product! From 2015... when is the next evolution due out?!
Great video. Tom & Craig - more please on the VL3x.
modalities More on the way when we release our next firmware update.
Thank you for making this tutorial. Can I make steps BEFORE importing the backing track and then record the steps in Record Mode?
Thank you.
Yes, you'd use the guitar outs for the split backing track, then can use the XLR's for mono vocal and mono guitar respectively.
Please add a metronome to a future model. I'd like to hear my backingtrack in stereo in my in-ears, while having a metronome.
Hi Folks,
just bought the Device and I´m still not completely in it.
Thanks, guys. Definitely keep the tutorial videos coming.
Wow, nice, can I do automation with the Midi out to start my metronome with the backtrack?
Can you use any 16 gb usb flash/thumb drive for the Voicelive 3 Extreme, and if so do it needs to be a 2.0 or a 3.0?
Great question. They didn’t say much.
Thanks.
This is for sure best pedal on the market, but why after 9 years there is nothing new from tc helicon?
Hmm, any dealer that can get TC-H devices should be able to get a VL3X. It may be that they are simply backordered on our end at the moment.
Hi Tod,
There isn't a way to reverse correlate the BT to the preset.
It's not a bass simulator per-se, but can definitely work for looping.
oh, good.
Voicelive 3 and 3extreme do that already...
Aloha and thanks for the great videos. Can you set the harmony presets associated with a backing track, to respond harmonically appropriately to the music on the backing track?
NaturalPlay using internal backing track as the source.
Aloha!
Hi guys
I perform in a duo with a live drummer and my VL3X, both using In-Ears and I was wondering the best way for us to both have a monitor feed from the Voicelive where we can both hear the metronome Would a headphone splitter from the headphone output be the way?
Can I use an electric guitar and a bass guitar with this device? Does harmony work with an electric guitar?
Anyone knows about the internal memory of the VL3X for baching tracks? How many GB can I import to the VL3X? Thanks!!
Alberto Pastor. hiya, they reckon around 100 backing tracks... so what ever that amounts to... hope this helps 👍
I wanna know this also cause if I'm loading large 48 khz quality files, it's going to pile on pretty fast. Would love to know what my limitations are.
Can I start a backingtrack automatically when I open a preset? Or, can I select the auto-playback of a backingtrack via a midi-command?
Hi,Tom,
I'm a singer from Brasil,and i`m really impressed by VoiceLive 3 Extreme (VL3X).
Please,i would like to know, where and when i can buy it?
any site?cause here at brasil nobody seems to import tc- helicon, nobody even has the VoiceLive 3 .
I would like to buy VoiceLive 3 Extreme (VL3X),how can buy?direct with?or any site?
cause i would like to use it already in the recording of my cd,and shows,
i`ll be waiting for and answer,
Thanks for the attencion.
Guimas Cezar Try these guys. They should be able to order TC-H gear. www.tcelectronic.com/where-to-buy/dealers/brazil/
Hello. Only for voice live 3X? or is there any update for VL3 to show the functions?
Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback Sterling! Our engineers are busy designing the next model of this pedal and I'll pass this along to them :- )
Thanks for the Reply.
MY MIND IS A BLOWN!!!!!
Is there a way you can adjust the volume of your imported track?
Is it possible to send the backing track out separately to the vocal?
Now...I really need a cup of coffee!! LOL
Hi guys! thanks for your tutorials! they really help rather than me just reading the pdf files of my vl3x.
Can be sequenced automatically without having to import tracks ? I mean does it have some kind of a memory automation ? Thank you in progress
Forgot one thing... Can you play sequences directly from USB stick or the device must have it "in the box" to be played ?
When I say sequence I mean "backing track" plus recorded automation...
Thank you.
Which low profile (small) USB thumb drives do you recommend? Tom, you forgot to say which brand it is. Lol.
I think we had some Sandisk Cruzer Micro, but that's just off the top of my head.
TC-Helicon Thank you Tom.
Thank you so much.
it is awesome product, i should study to learn
I'd like to use a usb vocal track, to set up automations, which would be used in a song/preset.
Using automations in a preset, not the usb vocal track. Just using the usb vocal track like a guide track.
So glad you're enjoying it!
We'll try and import it into our unit and if it doesn't work we can check the file out.
hello alright, i would like to know if you can use the expression or volume pedal to control the backing track, thanks
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!
Can I use the automation for stereo piano and voice separately.?. while the backing track is quiet? (we don't need backing tracks in our band, but drummer has a click)... But I need effects for voice and piano... (the piano is not necessary, but would be nice to make some effects too.)
Thank you very much!!!
Yes, you can automate to a "silent" backing track, but it still needs to be a recording of "nothing" for us to play back and record the automation to. We don't have a separate automation function that works without a backing track. In that type of case, I'd be looking at sending MIDI to the unit instead.
Can you place the CC/PC midi automation data on the tracks before import?
If you save a backing track per patch. Is there a way to control the volume of the backing track within Voicelive?
Is there a way to adjust the backing track playback output volume on the unit itself so as to be balanced in volume with your performance? You know, just in case your backing track was recorded at too low a volume?
YES!!!! press the Looper soft button then you gonna see Backing Track and Track gain. Hope could help you.
i can't believe it doesn't tell you in the manual which output the backing tracks go to. guitar or voice?
hi great video.
+TC-Helicon great advise about keeping the VL3X close to myself 😉 thank you very much ✌❤
Hey I have a question that i really am struggling with, is it possible on the VL3X to use more than one doubler on a given preset. I wanna remap Umod to a second doubler or second reverb with totally different settings in addition to ones already in the preset. Can i do it or do i have the limitation in DSP of only ONE doubler/delay/reverb/harmony effect per preset? Thanks :)
Hi, is it possible to change the order of the backing tracks in a preset ? Thank you.
Here's the tutorial for loop import: th-cam.com/video/ralMeYpiOe4/w-d-xo.html
And a vid Craig did some song building from a loop he found on a free loop website: th-cam.com/video/bYOuQS6Rn8s/w-d-xo.html
Hopefully those will give you some ideas :)
Can you combine the Digitech TRIO Band Creator and Looper with the VL3X??
Hmm... manual says 16bit, videos say 24bit... I'm going with the higher option. Great pedal, I love it! ❤️
I have a Voicelive 3 Extreme and Need a place to have it repaired. Can you help me?
Hello, does it possible , during a song with a backing track, to send midi CC and PC to an external device either than automate the presets of the VL3 ?
Where on the net do you suggest we get the tracks I have found a few but it seems like there are two many instruments intnetrack
Many thank....how can y calibrate the microphone output louther as the backing track .....i know now how i can calibrate the volume of backing track but i need to know
How i calibrate the output of my presets/microphone louther...
turn down the tracks ya dozy bollix
I've recorded all of my input performances and backed them up to a USB thumb drive.
In the event that my VL3X dies or gets stolen and I need to retrieve everything, how do you retrieve the input performance packages from the USB drive?
I just started the video but ... I am thinking this is like other TC stuff where I run Guitar and Vox through it? Can my soundman get my guitar and vox and the jam track on separate out puts? or does it all come out blended ???
+Bflatest VL3X got updated with several routing modes. I think one of them will likely cover your setup. Here's a link: www.tc-helicon.com/en/products/voicelive-3-extreme/support/
The diagrams start on roughly page 190'ish
When an effect is turned on or off via automation during a backing track, does it also send a MIDI CC message as it would if the button was pressed manually?
Good question! I "think so", but we'll have to test to be sure.
Hi, i'm wondering why can't i assign loop screen enter and out button to any button but just step? In this case it would be easier to get in loops and also use steps.
Q1. What's the maximum storage for loading Backing Tracks? If all I have is MP3 approximately how many Backing I am able to load them on the system?
About 100 if you take an average of 4 mins per track.
The VL3X is backordered everywhere-help!!! There's a few new ones, but it's like the Graphics card shortage they are charging 3x the price!
Does this work for the regular VL3?
Thank you .
So where do we get these backing tracks with just bass and drums ?
hi there i just wanted to know is the step procedures you did to change to another patch also memorised or do u have to do it manually
+zeo bas Steps are created the same way any other preset editing is done. The only difference is that the step is contained within a preset. The work is the same, it's more about whether you store as a step or as a separate preset.
I tried all that you said as in how to load a backing track but it didn't work no tracks found on stick according to the helicon
Someone said the the helicon comes without a sd card and you need to fit one to load tracks on ?
Hi :) great demo
Is it possible to use drum loops ? and is it possible to change / tap tempo on these imported loops ?
If i import drum loops, is it possible to name the loops ?
I got the BT part, but for some songs i just want to have a simpel drumloop :-)
Heya!
Yes you can use drum loops, though I'd use the looper rather than the backing track player for that.
You can't rename loops in the product, so I'd set their names on the files before import.
You can't re-time the loops inside the product. The tempo is set by calculating the file length for 4/4 time. You can set the looper to "Free" mode and disable sync if you want to though.
Is it possible with importing them through MIDI port in a new looper file.
Hey can you set the volume for each instrument and your voice, seems what Ive been listening too the voice is very low.
