Midnight Oil is the story of the group’s journey through the pandemic, in both a production standpoint and our musical identity. Each track on this album captures the group at a different stage of the long road back to an in-person world, as we grew together and found the sound we were looking for -- south asian fusion music made with only our voices. Oh my God. This kid who sings "jashn-e-bahara" has the most beautiful voice i have ever heard. his voice is much better than the actual song. This is probably my favorite indian band. especially the got kid with the afro!
I performed this with the music society (that I founded myself) at my college in my first year. It's been over 7 years now and every time I hear this it takes me back to those times. This song is probably the closest to my heart and makes me teary-eyed every time I listen to it.

@Aazeen Kidwai yeah it's an Indian song but using a lot of Urdu vocab. Also the title is pure Persian.
Thore Andreasson, Hindi is an Indian language, and Urdu is a Pakistani one. they share a lot of their vocabularies, but their scripts are entirely different.
regardless, Penn Masala was formed at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, by the Indian students of the School of Engineering, in 1996.
the group is open to all Penn students, and there have been members from other countries; all ten of them are (current) students of the U of Penn.
every year, the graduating students are replaced by audition.
PM's music emphasizes a cappella harmony, and often, a seamless fusion between Western and Indian popular music, with elements of classical ragas thrown in.
I am here for the harmony sans instruments.
