Greetings from NZ. How did you get on with that? Is this engine the R428? I'm looking for a tear down of the model RA428 that was in the JK 2007 2008 and i think up until 2011. It only has the one cam shaft pulley at the top. There seems to be some crossover point there? Any info would be really appreciated. Cheers

Hi, thanks for reaching out. I’m not sure about that difference in these engines. This one is a DOHC. If it is the same architecture on the bottom end, then I’m sure a lot of similarities would cross over to the top.

It's a VM Motori 2.8l. I'm pretty sure it's the same engine that's used in the older British cabs. It's not a Merc, for sure. A modern version of this engine is also used in the Chevy Colorado here in the States. Also used in many of the same vintage export models of the Jeep Wrangler. I remember seeing the "CRD" badge in France.

I live in the west, so I personally can't do that for you, sorry. A good place to find these engines is www.car-part.com. Search under 2005-2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel engines. That's where I bought my replacement. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I still have it on a pallet. I'll get back to rebuilding it someday. For now, the refurbished wrecker engine is running perfectly. Especially after installing ARP studs on the heads.

The temp sensor is on the thermostat. -- It's the only sensor on the thermostat.
