  • Did you know that the Jeep Liberty came from the factory in the US with a diesel engine? Sure was! They were supplied in 2005-2006 with a VM Motori Common Rail Diesel (known as the CRD) motor. These are awesome little motors. We had a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD come in with a bad motor. Luckily it also came with another motor pulled from the junkyard. So the plan is to rebuild the one from the junkyard, then swap it in the Jeep. Check it out as we disassemble the junkyard motor and get it ready for some much needed maintenance and upgrades!

    My son has one and beat the hell out of it and it just keeps trucking along. One additional thing I would replace (whether it needs it or now) is the oil cooler on the RH side. they are known to crack and dump oil into the coolant passages. They are a bugger to replace when the turbo is installed. Cheap part and cheap insurance and totally accessible with the turbo & surrounding junk off.

    I have an 06 crd. Needs a new high-pressure fuel injection pump and radiator. I may as well do all the parts replacement like lifters, rocker arms, water pump, timing belt, pulleys, turbo, and clean the EGR system. Are you interested in doing the work?

    I have one with piston #4 problems with noises. Hope the engine isnt blown... probably is. Such a pain. It drove for a while in limp mode, for a while anyway in low gear 4wd low. Seriously though, what does one do with such a car? It has high miles.

      Walter tengo una 2006 con el power steering pump bracket roto, el resto en perfecta condiciones ya fui a buscarlo DIVEMOTOR no lo tienen sabes si alguien en Lima esta desmantelando alguna CRD. Soy Juan Woll vivo en la Molina.

    Gotta question your head bolt removal. There is a sequence of front to back and left to right to keep from warping the head. Just asking

    THANK YOU for this video , i recently bought crd with a bad engine and also got a junk yard motor that will go in the jeep. new parts include water pump, lifters , thermostat, and an ebay turbo(dont know about this one, looks good on the outside) ) any suggestions ? thanks

      Only suggestion would be to get an install manual! It helps a lot with the pulling of the motor out of the jeep as well. Best of luck!

      Hi Cristian Sorescu, I’m Juan Woll from Peru, I have two months looking for the BRACKET which hold the power steering pump and the serpentine belt tensioner, and the bracket join to the engine block through three bolts on Jeep Liberty KJ 2.8L CRD. Already I know that you have two engines, Please would you sell me one BRACKET by ebay and through video comments notice me before the BRACKET sell on ebay to avoid someone buy it first. Maybe you have other way to sell me the BRACKET let me know. For the power steering pump and the serpentine belt we'll coordinate later. Many Many Thanks for your help.

    I’m getting ready to tear into an 06. Do you have to lock the injection pump in place so that it doesn’t get out of time?

      You will have to realign it before you install the new timing belt. Not hard at all

    Will this engine replace a 3.7 L gas engine in a 2012 Liberty?

      No. The CRD uses a different transmission, as I recall. Also, the CRD was available on Gen-1 vehicles. 2012 is a Gen-2.
