Hey Eric! Something that i have noticed is that u constantly upgrade your quality. When released the pinnochio vs vid i thought it was the best. But now, this video is the best. U give something new all the time. And for just that you deserve a standing ovation 🫡👏
Or they wanted to take advantage of the shared cinematic universes that are popping up and were planning on linking the Princesses like Once Upon A Time
There weren't even slurs or swear words in the original. And the insults were said by the villain anyway, which is clearly put in the wrong. Kids are not THAT naive.
You kinda forgot to mention or atleast recheck That Ariel when she is picking out the water flower of loves me or not She wants to get to know Eric rather then being full lover immediately Its only because of her fathers actions and ursula time limit that makes her needs to rush
I grew up with the 1989 animated classic, 2002 kid here. I want to say, the 1989 animated version won in terms of color palette, there's always enough color contrast to let you see what you're supposed to see. And the animated classic won in terms of portraying the characters. Eric, while being more subtle in terms of his character, did have good qualities that many people missed and the similarities, differences of his character that are different from Ariel which are important to the love story. We're first introduced to Prince Eric on a ship of all places, the entrance isn't what people would expect from a prince, this first entrance established Eric's interest in the ocean, his adventurous personality, and the down to earth quality seen by how he's helping around the ship with the sailors and being interested in the sailors' tales about the nautical myths of merfolk. Later, we see Eric perform music for his own pleasure and self expression on the ship, the use of music for Eric is the way that Ariel preferred to go about her singing and musical abilities. Eric, being the prince of the land and the future king in 3 years, is a romantic who longs for emotional connection and true love, talking about how he'll just know it when he finds his true love, rejecting princesses that he didn't feel the emotional connection to. When the storm hits and being saved by Ariel, Eric is left with one idea of his true love: a voice. With the voice and its melody being the clue to identifying his true love, Eric searched around the kingdom, often coming back to the beach, repeating the cycle for weeks until he finally met Ariel. Without the single piece of information to know if Ariel was the one who saved him, Eric still took Ariel in and took care of her, this act showed that Eric is a kind and compassionate person. When Grimsby pushes Eric to spend time with Ariel, the response from Eric is "If she's interested." and then he proceeds to ask Ariel to join him on a tour around the kingdom, meaning that he cares about Ariel's autonomy and respects Ariel as a person. When Eric actually fell for Ariel, he threw away the flute that he's been playing the song in his head for days and turned towards Ariel, symbolizing that he's ready to give up the mere idea of his dream girl and have the real girl that had made him laugh and made him happy, a girl that he actually knows and actually likes, without even knowing that the girl he likes at this point is the same as his dream girl. Eric going back to the ship just to save his dog showed that he cared more about the wellbeing of his loved ones than his own, the selfless character is also one of the reasons why he's so lovable. The experiences of Eric are what drawn Ariel to him, although Eric is being tied down by certain expectations, he has much more freedom in terms of expressing himself and enjoying what he loves, unlike Ariel, who has to sneak around just so she can do what she loves. On Ariel's part, the accusations really didn't add up either. Part of Your World was supposed to be Part of That World, in the song, Ariel expressed her desire to run, dance, walk, take a stroll. She added that she wanted to know what fire is, what burning is, she wanted to be around humans, ask humans questions to learn more. After Ariel met Eric, Eric became part of the dream that she had, now she wanted to do those things with Eric as her partner. I don't know what part of this "I want" song is so hard to understand that they think Ariel become human just for Eric. Before Ariel went to see Ursula, she's aware that Ursula was bad news and she shouldn't trust Ursula, when Ursula proposed the deal to Ariel, Ariel expressed concerns about her family, showing that as much as she wanted to be human, she still cared about her family. When Ursula went on to say that she wanted Ariel's voice, Ariel questioned about how she will be able to communicate to Eric without her voice, only to be cut off by Ursula before she finished that thought. Ariel isn't the typical damsel in distress, she's the heroine of the story while Eric is the hero of the story, after Ariel saved Eric from drowning, Eric saved Ariel by distracting Ursula to free her, and then Ariel saved Eric again by making Ursula missing the mark with the trident, Eric saved Ariel by actually facing Ursula in the sea monster form and killed Ursula, saving Ariel and the entire underwater kingdom. In the animated version, Ariel made all of those decisions herself, no one told her to love the human world but she loved it anyway, she made the decision to go to Ursula, she's chasing after Eric to try to get Eric to fall in love with her. Eric is also active in terms of going after Ariel. Eric and Ariel is the example of a balanced couple who are willing to fight for each other, but the remake version took that away.
Keep on preaching, dude! (I also loved the part where you talked about Ariel since she's my favorite character for being "not the typical damsel in distress.")
@@jonnyboy4289 Ariel is my favorite Disney princess. It's so frustrating that people don't get her character and we still have to provide long explanations on how her character was written.
@@clairelin0216 thanks for your goods argumentation that explain why the original it’s 1000% much better than the remake If someone of the "small" peoples who try to destroy your argumentation, I’m here to defend you ;)
@@TheNbmonstre951 Thank you! I'm always happy to defend my favorite Disney couple here, the animated version have well written characters, they destroyed that in the remake so I feel like we need a reminder on how great they are in the animated version.
The reason Scuttle can breathe underwater in the movie is because in the live action they made Scuttle a bird called “Gannet” where they can fly and go a certain amount of feet underwater for a certain amount of time, that’s why when we first see Scuttle in the remake she says: “Okay, gotta get back for air”
Halle Bailey (as Ariel) was definitely the best actress in the film followed by Melissa McCarthy (as Ursula) followed by Jessica Alexandra (as Vanessa) (my personal opinion)
@ItsCalledCapitalism ariel race isn't even intergal to her story they casted halle since she was best choice she had the ethereal voice and excuded all of ariel personality traits
Was there a shadow of a doubt that the original animated film would outclass the live action remake in virtually every category? I sure as hell saw it coming a mile away.
Out of the Disney live actions I thought that the Cinderella live action was done the best because they took the lesson the original was trying to teach and expanded on it. I grew up believing Cinderella as the kindest of the princess and the live action at least it stayed true to the story. I don’t see a review that you did on it. What are your thoughts?
@wolfman-hw8yt oh! Tbh, I thought the way they had Ursla die in the remake that she got stabbed, but they didn't let it go all the way to the "point" it was sticking out of her!
@@jacindaellison3363 That's what I mean they didn't show it. That well. It was too dark where you could barely see it. Or can't see it at all. And where she gets struck by lightning turns to a skeleton is not in the scene either.
@@wolfman-hw8yt wow, just wow. Thankfully, I'm just skipping this one. The only Disney Live Action Remake movies I've seen are Christopher Robin and both 101 Dalmatios and Alice in Wonderland and their sequels.
That's the live action Remakes in a nut shell. They basically exist to have you appreciate the beauty and passion that was given by the original. Which you can rarely - or NEVER feel said passion with these Remakes. The one kind thing I can say to Disney now is... I HOPE WISH does well. You're going to need it.
Frankly I feel lowering the bar is the last thing to do. Disney has been doing this for years and are finally feeling the sting, so lowering the bar now is akin to telling them what they are doing is okay.
There were ZERO merits to this "live action remake". Even NOT taking skuttlebutt and lyrics changes into account, the songs were still bad. Vocally, they sounded better, but the wrung out the emotions or give it a different interpretation that the mood, the feeling, the emotions the songs convey changed... for the worse. My biggest gripe was in part of your world. Near the end where the line goes "wish I could be". In the original it was so melancholic you feel Ariel's emotions and mind set. In the remake, she sorta belted it and... wtf!? I hated it the first time i heard it in the teaser trailer, and i still hate it. let's not get into her singing along in under the sea....
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 I see what you mean, but let's be honest, we knew the live-action remake was gonna get a lower score than the original animated one. Lowering the bar and having them still lose is an extra step of humiliation for them.
Lowering the bar to allow the live-action to win with one point made it so easy to predict that the live-action will never get a point. Just letting the live-action win with just one point while the animated has the most points just wouldn't be right. If the live-action did get a point, Eric would not have used that handicap for this video would he? The handicap was only foreshadowing the animated classic's perfect win.
To me I feel like Disney should stop making the live action remakes like they don’t do anything new and change things that never need to Changed and the only reason why there made is just to make money and I find it really sad that Disney went from a amazing studio that made amazing stories and characters to a company who only makes things just for quick buck and to get attention
The cover says everything you need to know about the movie. You can see how in the 2023 version, Ariel is the sole focus. Her father and Ursula are in the back and Eric is even further behind showing just how little importance he had in the movie. The old version shows both Eric and Ariel at the front, with her father and Ursula in the back.
Awesome video as always Eric. 🧜♀️📼 As a 90s kid, The Little Mermaid was one of those films from my childhood that I enjoyed watching on VHS. It is one of my Mom's favorite movies back in the day. She was 25 years old when this film was released in 1989. My older brother & I would watch this with my Mom countless of times. I often refer to The Little Mermaid as "The Movie That Saved Disney" because it began the now iconic Renaissance Era from 1989 to 1999. As far as the Remake is concerned, I am not surprised to find out that it sucks just like the rest of the Disney Remakes. Even if they had an actual redhead who can sing, it still wouldn't have saved this film because it was a bad idea from the start. Speaking of the so called "RACE CONTROVERSY" let's be honest with ourselves. The only people who believe that nonsense are Left Wing Conspiracy Theorists. They are just upset because they cannot take any kind of criticism about Disney. These folks don't want to admit that Disney isn't the same as it once was. Based on the box office numbers of recent Disney movies, we are witnessing the new Dark Age of Disney. Unless Disney changes direction in how they approach their films in the future, they will continue to go downhill year after year & they will have no one to blame but themselves.
@@lancethefilmguy9392 Maybe they GENUINELY like it. You know some of us out there just want to be entertained. The Haunted Mansion, Cheaper By The Dozen and Parent Trap in 2000's were remakes and nobody cried. Why you mad now? I was actually mad to find out Dr. Doolittle wasn't originally black because I thought it clever for Eddie Murphy to come up with an original property
@@suzygirl1843 First, I am a fan of those movies you mentioned and what separates them from these Disney Remakes are that they were actually good films that put in effort to become entertaining. Also, the fact that you are accusing a stranger who you don't even know of being prejudice tells me you are willing to make up wild accusations just to defend a bad product.
Daveed Diggs was the lead in a 2018 movie called “Blindspotting”, which my mom’s cousin also starred in (he was Sid). Anyways, Diggs was really good in that. So just like with most of these live-action remakes, I blame the director more than the actors.
Would it be be embarrassing if I say that Triton looked more like Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson with a beard? I'm not making this up. That was actually my reaction when I first saw him in the trailer. 🤣
I really agree with all you said. Especially regarding prince Eric. By trying to give his character more depth they actually ruined his character (and I'm sorry but I also think the actor wasn't a good fit for him). The only thing I liked about him is that he would collect stuff from all places and also from what he found in the sea, making a nice parallel with Ariel. But they didn't need to make his mother forbid him to travel. Overall I found this plot-point of him being adopted very, very unnecessary. And I'll never forgive disney for taking his moment in defeating Ursula. The way they concluded it doesn't make any sense at all. Plus it sends the wrong message by making Ariel do everything herself and not asking for help. Another detail which is barely noticed but I found very memorable (and not in a good sense) is that in the live action movie it's not Flounder who brings in the statue of Eric (which he didn't even like - another detail that gets lost here) but Ariel herself? if they didn't want it to make it seem like Ariel is obsessed with a human with did they make her act like some crazy fan? Of course there was the question of how Flounder brought it into her hide-out but it could have easily been resolved by adding some dolphine friends helped him. It bothered me so much they made Ariel do it. Yes, she collects all the stuff but... I don't know (and I know in the original she is simping over the statue but it was still Flounder who brought it in). Maybe I'm beeing too nit-picky here. It's really like you said... This live action remake also made me appreciate the animated version even more.
No contest, the original is better literally in every possible way. The fixing the plot hole about Ariel writing her name was the one and only thing they did that was "better", but only because it fixed a plot hole.
Well there would´t be a movie if she spelled it out. But consider we escaped the language barrier we did not escape the letter barrier, now for all case and purpose le´ts say Ariel had an Atleantian language, it only said Ariel for the viewers convinience. I mean when Animation cost so much you don´t prioretize to make sure every little detail is spelled out for us. Some suggested that during the time period TLM takes place it was only common to know how to write your own name. Or considering Triton spelled his with his trident when clossing his eyes I assume it is magic, when you agree to write on it, it helps writing down your name no matter if you are capable of doing it or not.
A plot hole indeed they've fixed (only to make those "Cinima Sin" nitpicking morons happy LOL). All I'm gonna say is that, every movie has plot holes (even Star Wars) and the narrative in the original was more fairytale like and traditional meaning logic takes a backseat while focus is on the simplicity and the emotion (like Snow White). But, they were also moving into the future due to making Ariel an active character and making her feel more like a modern real teenager which backfires because we know a realistic person in the real world would never do something this illogical and unrealistic like "reading the contract before you sign" and "writing notes to someone to explain your situation". So, we are looking at The Little Mermaid through a modern lense despite its narrative being more simple and emotional but less logical. It's kinda critizing Snow White for its illogical fairytale moments (like falling in love instantly, taking apples from strangers, going into someone's house without thinking, or kissing without consent, or a random prince coming out of nowhere when you wished to be with a prince). Yes. This stuff makes no sense. But, the focus is on the simplicity and emotion. While a modern narrative is more focused on logic (like Frozen). So, Ariel is an active character and feels like a real teenager, but she does a bunch nonsensical stupid things like what you expect in a traditional fairytale because the crew took elements from the past Disney films (like Snow White) while evolving into the modern age (like what we have with Frozen and Beauty and the Beast).
You giving the animated The Little Mermaid a 10/10 really warmed my heart! The shitty remake is NO WHERE close to being good! The original Disney animated films will ALWAYS win!!!!
One thing I will say, they changed the type of bird scuttle is simply because the new one can go underwater. If he/she was a seagull then he/she couldn’t go and breath underwater like the remake.
But why did scuttle need to go underwater in the first place? At least in the original animated film, Ariel was actually going to the surface and breaking the rule about not going to the surface. I don't get what changing that added to the story
Yeah, sure they wanted to make a big scene of Ariel going to the surface for the first time but that could still be segnificent becuse we know where she is going. Atleast they made it a big scene.
Finally someone sets the score straight!! You keep repeating yourself Eric! Disney should watch this channel and see how much they are hurting their audience. This generation’s parents watched these movies as children! The animated movie was my mother’s favorite! If she were to watch this, it would break her heart completely! Same for other people from then to now! And now they treat them like they should be in a world of feminists! Disney, Sony and Universal are failing these days, as well as WB! When can we expect The Flash Review Video?
I'm giving here two thoughts: "Maleficent" broke my heart as Sleeping Beauty was my favorite Disney movie, and even the live action Cinderella version was breaking my heart because I do not only care for the main characters, and I feel so bad what they did with the Grand Duke and also the jolly old king. I started to see them as entirely new fairy tale movie adaptions, only using snippet ideas from the animated classics. My second remark is: The Little Mermaid has a huge potential of feminism. "Bright young women....ready to stand...",and also the original tale (Andersen!) includes the detail that the mermaid wears male clothes and is horseback riding with the prince, and in some movie adaptions, we see this, there*'s even one movie in which the mermaid is sword fighting with the prince....so....please consider this ...
Finally somebody who can see how overrated Halle Bailey is overrated as Ariel. Shame some forgot how perfect Jodi was when the remake released and were signing Halle's praises? Jodi will always be my Ariel!
I can't even stand get voice. It sounds so shaky. Don't know how people consider her voice beautiful. It's not. It's not bad but no where near as good or as memorable Jodi Benson.
@@ladyofnoxus6733I don't like her voice because it's too aggressive when she sings Part of your World. There are some points where it sounds like she's yelling and I'm like "just shut up".
You know, the critisim people have been giving the 1989 Little Mermaid over the years (with the main reason that Ariel is a badly written, passive, unlikable, and 1 dimentional damsel in distress who just wants a man and waits for that man to rescue her with no character arc) has driven me crazy over the years and it made me question myself if I've been loving Ariel for the wrong reasons all because I thought she was far from your typical damsel in distress who's weak and helpless (through playing Kingdom Hearts where Ariel was a badass party member during a time when I looked down at the Disney Princesses as girly damsels and sissies who just wait to be rescued). She faced off with a shark, destroyed Ursula's eels in the climax, and saved Eric 2 times (from drowning and from Ursula in the climax). But, people claim it's not good enough because Ariel had to be saved in the end from Ursula because it's her story and Ariel is the protagonist. And when I heard about the live action Little Mermaid remake being made, as well as when the writers revealed that Ariel is going to have more female empowerment than the animated version, I was concerned about the original film's fate due to the hatred over the years. The cast and crew were boasting how the remake is superior while the original is problematic and how Ariel is a badly written character who just left the ocean for a boy, which gave me a sense that the original film (and Ariel) would be toast and fade away into obscurity like Song of the South and get replaced by the 2023 version. But, based on how it was executed when the remake came out, boy was I wrong. And I went into this frenzy that The Little Mermaid 1989 film is a bad movie and how I was questioning myself as an Ariel fan and how the remake is going to replace the original all because of how the critisim the original film (and Ariel) has been having over the years has been driving me insane and that Ariel is a badly written, passive, and unlikable character and I've been loving her for the wrong reasons all because of a video game called Kingdom Hearts and how I was exposed to it during a time when I looked down at princess characters as weak, sissy, girly, and helpless damsels who just wait to be rescued. I knew that Ariel was going to defeat Ursula in the remake and I thought that this was going to be the remake's secret weapon because of how it's a response to the critisim of Ariel being a typical damsel in distress who puts everyone in danger and relies on others to fix the problems she created without learning anything in the end. I thought that "secret weapon" was going to make people love the remake more than the original while the original film fades away into obscurity (like Song of the South). But, nope. I was wrong. What we got, in terms of making Ariel "a strong and independent girl boss" in the remake, was something that's forced, unnecicary, nonsensical, and gives Prince Eric (despite him being more fleshed out) and other supporting characters little to do in the story making them useless. Me being infuriated with the critisim is not just because The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney films and that Ariel is one of my all time favorite characters. It's because it started the Disney Renesance (1989-1999) and yet because of how "Ariel is a badly written, passive, and unlikable protagonist", people like to trash the original and dismiss it as a bad movie which has been making my blood boil for years until I reached my breaking point where I ended up believing that the "mixed and divisive" opinions on Ariel leaned toward the negative side than on the positive side (like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker or The Amazing Spider-Man 2) making me beleive that Ariel is "a badly written, passive, and unlikable character" and that the 1989 Little Mermaid is "outdated, problematic, poorly aged, worthless and useless."
You are not alone, my friend. I always thought that people gave this movie a hard time. Take it from someone whose mother is a fan of the film. So much so that my brother and I promise her that whichever of us has a daughter, we would name her Ariel. I have seen The Little Mermaid, so many times that I know it like the back of my hand. The biggest lie about TLM is that Ariel left the ocean for a man. That is 1000% incorrect. Part Of Your World is a song about her wanting to know about the land above. She didn't even meet Eric until after the song. All he did was give her another reason to go to the human world above. She is one of the better Disney princesses, in my opinion. It is just the cool thing to do to hate her because the Internet says so. My advice is this: Do not let what others say get to you. It is OK for us to love this film. 😊🧜🏻♀️
@@lancethefilmguy9392 Thanks, Lance. Despite the remake being a critical and box office disappointment, it's still not easy to get passed that hatred people give this movie because I was forced to go through more than 10 years of people giving this movie critisim and hatred. But, I try to remind myself "remember how the the remake tried to fix the original's problems" and "you can't please everybody" and "f@%$ them all." However, I still have a few questions. Is Ariel another typical damsel in distress because she had to be saved in the end despite her saving Flounder from a shark, killing Flotsem and Jetsem, and Eric (twice)? So, am I loving her for the wrong reasons? Is "Ariel not learning anything" worth getting angry over and dismissing her as "badly written"? I've realized that the reason why people (for the most part) didn't bring up that critisim is when the remake was released, people brought up that Ariel didn't need to change or learn a valuable lesson because she wants to go to the surface. But, her need is to stay underwater because according to Triton and Sabastion "Humans are evil." Yet, in the end, Ariel was proven right and Triton was mistaken. The surface is where she belongs and not all humans are bad. But.......Ariel still struck a selfish deal with Ursula and put everyone in danger. We all make mistakes. It happens to everyone. But, it's essential that you learn and grow from your mistakes. This is a critisim that has been around since the 2000s. But, for the most part, when the remake was released, people didn't bring it up despite the critisim being brought up in the past. So, is it worth getting angry over? Who have I been listening to the whole time? Was it from liberals and feminists? Or was it from a bunch of heartless a#+holes?
@@EricCarter12 I mean she is there, she is the one who bath and cloth Ariel but she did´t have nearly as big of a role like the original. Not that it is that big. This is the review I've been waiting for ❤ ... Great Video as always,I don't have to say anything about how I feel about the remake ... You said it all for me .The Hans Christian Andersen story is subjectively superior to the '89 film , but the only good thing the remake did is making me appreciate the animated version ... The '89 film has its short comings, but as a whole it's a very good film .The remake sucks through and through ... Also,I found Heilly's singing very odd ... Part of your World is supposed to be introspective, quiet ( and as Howard Ashman said to Judy during the recording process ) a bit breathy ... Heilly belted the sh*t out of everything, and overall her performance wasn't great ... They had the absolute audacity to remove Vanessa's song ( replaced it with :🎵LadaaaaDiDaDadadaaDiDuDiDadyudoDaDaDaUuudU....!?!?! 🎶 ) , every single character had way less personality ... They made Ursula pathetic and pitiful ,the scene of Vanessa appearing for the first time was waaaaaaay creepier in the original film, the costumes and sets were bland ... You also forgot to mention that at the ending the Queen mother tells Eric " Forget about her,our two worlds weren't ment to be together ... " , IN THE VERY NEXT SCENE , Ariel pops out of nowhere and the mother is like : ☺️ ( like WTF was that ) ... It took the original less than a minute for scuttle to tell Ariel that Eric gets married,it took the remake 2 GODAMN MINUTES to establish the exact same point !? ... This movie doesn't offend me as much as Cinderella ( which, while one of the least bad , It's filled to the brim with narrative and character issues ) since I never really cared about the '89 Film ( The book Is way better 😁😂 ) ,but I do feel sorry for the fans of the original animated film 🎥 ... Snow White though, which comes out next year will be THE BIGGEST INSULT TO WALT DISNEY'S LEGACY ... SMH 😒 🙄 Can Didney DIE already ... ?
I loved the 1989 litte mermaid and i also enjoy the remake especially in the scene of the engagement party at the balcony where prince eric trying to block ursula and ursula shove him away with one tentacle and say shut up….
Hey Eric, I saw you included the Cinderella remake in the grouping of shitty live-action remakes. I actually think it’s awesome, one of my favorite fairytale movies, and basically the only Disney remake that improved on the original. Honestly, if you were going to do a Disney Versus video that isn’t one-sided, that would be the one to do it with.
Rob Marshall made the best Disney Live Action Remake but that’s not saying much. The 1989 version is superior in every way. Ariel in the 1989 version is much better than she’s given credited for. Ariel in the 1989 version didn’t give up her voice for a man she sang the iconic song “Part Of Your World” before she met Eric. Eric saved Ariel by killing Ursula with the bow of his ship which proves Triton wrong about all humans. The original is colorful. Don’t get me wrong I loved Halle Bailey as Ariel she gave the best performance in the film. Her rendition of Part Of Your World gave me chills and the song “For The First Time” is my favorite song in the film along with “Wild Uncharted Waters”. I still think the original is way better
Yeah. The Little Mermaid remake is more like a slap in the wrist while the Pinocchio and Lion King remakes are like a kick in the balls. So, like you said, it's not saying much. (In addition, the original 89 Little Mermaid is like getting a big hug and kiss on the cheek from 89 Ariel).
Hey Eric! Excited for every new video you come out with! I wish you could post more often. 😢But I know videos don’t make themselves and require time. You’re just the best!

I definitely prefer the 1989 Original. However, I will say two things I loved about the 2023 remake. 1. Halle Bailey’s singing is spectacular 2. I actually liked the remakes version of Kiss the Girl more
It really is a shame. Halle would have been better in a less facial expressive heavy story. Because they hired a singer in a film where half of the time she's a MUTE.
The only two things I’m willing to give the remake credit for is 1) Halle Bailey being an excellent singer, however subpar her acting was 2) The existence of wild uncharted waters, Eric’s new song. Not because Jonah Hauer-King is good at singing (god they really did make the strongest effort to make Eric look as a bad as possible in this remake didn’t they) it’s because the song is well made, and as a guy who enjoys singing, having more baritone songs from Disney is great since we don’t have that many of those from Disney.
The original 1989 movie will always be superior. I checked out the 2023 one, out of curiosity, made me sick to my stomach, had to turn it off after 7 minutes. I understand the need to add a few things, here and there, for the purposes of live action, but it's the reasons behind those changes that bother me the most: Ariel driving the ship to defeat Ursula, is just another example of the obsession with female empowerment, that's why they gave her that role, because she's a woman, that's all the qualification she requires; plus, not having Eric save the day, doesn't give King Triton his opportunity to see that his views on humans, was incorrect. Cutting lyrics to a couple of the songs, because they felt the original songs were too offensive for the modern generation, it's all the more reason to keep the songs intact. Cutting Chef Louie (one of my favorite characters in the movie) was a bad move, because he would have boosted the much needed humor the remake was missing.
Max was the only character In the remake that wasn’t altered at all. He was best boi in the original and still best boi in the remake even if one of his scenes got cut. Oh and also I love dogs as pets so I’m probably biased!
Hey Eric. Even if Kraven the Hunter isn’t a good movie, at least Sony now has the balls to make their comic book films rated R! 🤞Morbius flopping 2 times in row has taught them some lessons. For all we know, Kraven might be good if not great. Sony’s unpredictable in terms of quality. They could surprise us. I’m optimistic, but not getting my hopes up either.
Scuttle too man! They made him pointless... He was the one who was supposed to break the necklace from human Ursulas neck so that she got her voice back... not Ariel in some kind of cat fight lol why did they do all that. I think at least a COUPLE of other ppl in this movie could of had a achievement or two
9:11 THATS WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING!!! I like triton, but the LAR couldn’t show any emotion. Anger, concern, rage, sadness, love, surprised, guilt, and happiness.
What?? Does nobody understand the point of these Disney Renaissance films. Why does everyone feel like they are all love stories??? The Core of the Little Mermaid is the War between Ursula and Trident. Ariel is a pawn in Ursula's game and she uses her new found attraction to Erik as leverage in that war. She is not in love with Erik when she gets to shore she is infatuated and the whole point is she has to fall in love and get him to do the same. But I still agree the remake has so many problems, who cares about the actual story anyway.
And the absolute worse part about this live action remake is that it's probably not gonna be the worst. There is this upcoming live action remake of Snow White that's gonna be released in 2024. While there hasn't been a trailer for the movie yet, no doubt that it's gonna suck. I mean, not only did they NOT have the iconic Seven Dwarfs in a leaked photo, but they replaced them with seven people of different ethnicities and genders, with only ONE of them being at the right height to be a dwarf. Plus they're having a Latino actress play the titular Snow White, which makes about as much of a miscast as one could ask. For those who don't know, Snow White is described as a young woman, usually in her teens, with lips as red as the rose, hair black as ebony and (this is the most important description,) skin WHITE AS SNOW!!! Snow White's skin is depicted as being as pale as snow, hence why she was given the name SNOW WHITE!!! So having a Latino actress playing a character who is supposed to have pale skin makes virtually no sense. And not only that, but there's apparently some of the plot was leaked as well. Prince Charming isn't even gonna be in the film, and the film is gonna be about a young woman seeking to rise up to be a strong, independent leader... Kinda like how nearly every live action remake focusing on a Disney Princess seems to be focusing on nowadays.
They should have just made a new movie/story. If they would have understood the original story they would have understood that romance was not the entire reason she wanted to be human. She became human for two reasons, for love, and in order to gain a human sole she must have the prince fall in love with her and marry her.
Her blue dress is just horrible in the live action. I hate it. And I hate it even more that they brought it again when she got her legs by King Triton. Oh god. What happened to that beautiful blue shinny dress 👗 that glittered like sun in water
He has lots of videos in the pipeline. I don’t think he has time right now. But yes, good suggestion! The 2016 re imagining is the one decent one remake because it was different and had passion behind it. Plus, it wasn’t preaching to the consumers.
I noticed that the vs logo has a different color. Any reason why? I obviously don’t have a problem with it. I just thought it was interesting as all of the other vs logos in the previous thumbnails are the same color. I’m just curious what made you decide to change it up.
You noticed right. For a while now I have been considering changing the versus thumbnails and giving them a different look. I have ultimately decided to stick with the original look for now, but I thought I'd make a couple of changes. So I put an outline around the posters (which I did with my first ever versus thumbnail) and the versus logo just to give it a slightly refined look.
One of the questionable things about the little mermaid remake is, why does king triton have diverse, different race, daughters either king triton adopted all of them or he had a relationship with multiple mermaids because there’s no way they all came from the same mother or Disney’s not being realistic and people say the original was problematic
It was pretty obvious that the original was going to win. I'm sick of these remakes and the worst part this remake has the single worst song in all of Disney. Other bad songs that were from Disney which weren't many I could tolerate. But Skuttles song in this remake was so annoying that I literally wanted to rip my ears off so I won't have to hear that song, and no Disney movie has ever made me feel that way.
I feel like one of the reasons the new songs don’t work is because LMM’s style is completely different from Ashman’s. They should’ve just had Alan Menken handle everything and send Lin off to work on Wish (because we all know that movie needed him more)
Your criticism is valid and I agree, but the main problem is that whatever they would have wanted to add or substract from the original, you can't keep everyone happy. If they had not added the musical numbers or the little extra development, people would have complained about lack of creativity. If they had done a full reversion, people would have criticized how it doesn't relate to the original. If they had copied piece by piece the original movie, people would have just complained about the live action existing. The problem to me is to choose to make a live action. It's a tough task, hard to get it right. You can tell they feared success and didn't polish the movie just enough to make it honor the animated film. But you just know before you watch them, you have to have no standard and enjoy it as a regular film
I think enjoy both remakes and animated But I might the best is the little mermaid and beauty and the beast and Aladdin and the lion king and Mary Poppins and Dumbo. And Pinocchio. And Lady in the tramp and cinderella and Alice in wonderland and Pete s Dragon and Christopher Robin and Carella the worst Peter Pan and Wendy and Mulan and The Jungle book I still want to see more before they keep the same animated cartoon to live action keep him que s from animated parts that will be good please stop doing reboot s I am With people against them ok
afer you make me a promise. Bring back my Annie 1999 and song of the south and all Disney sing along songs and all Disney voalt could fixed marvel and Pixar and Star Wars.
I think Peter Pan and Wendy was what finally broke me, to stop caring about these freaking remakes. That movie was so bad, with the way it ruined the story of Peter Pan, that I fully removed any Disney remake from my watchlist. I skipped this one in theaters, and I'm skipping it when it arrives on Disney+, because it's clear Disney wants to force their agendas on us, rather than make quality content.
How is that a bad thing if anything it’s a great thing since if it happens enough Disney will either have to actually try to make a good remake or quit and give up Edit: so uhhhh funny story it was like midnight when I said this and I thought elevating meant doing bad because I was tired as hell so yeah oops sorry about that 😅

It was ok among the a sea of crappy remakes. I thought jungle book was the only one I actually liked.

Man, you gave the live-action remake a much easier rule to win and it STILL lost. That's saying something.

1989 is the only real Little Mermaid the world remembers. The other one is a cheap copy with a burnt fish.
As a 90s kid, The Little Mermaid was one of those films from my childhood that I enjoyed watching on VHS.

I don't think it was a plot hole at all, Ariel couldn't tell Eric the truth because he would've thought she's crazy.
You giving the animated The Little Mermaid a 10/10 really warmed my heart! The shitty remake is NO WHERE close to being good! The original Disney animated films will ALWAYS win!!!!

This generation’s parents watched these movies as children! The animated movie was my mother’s favorite! If she were to watch this, it would break her heart completely! Same for other people from then to now! And now they treat them like they should be in a world of feminists! Disney, Sony and Universal are failing these days, as well as WB!

But, I try to remind myself "remember how the the remake tried to fix the original's problems" and "you can't please everybody" and "f@%$ them all."
However, I still have a few questions.
From the minute the remake came out ive been waiting for Erics reaction!
Same
I love it when people tear these terrible remakes down
@@cheshirerose2001 agreed 👍
I don’t know why some people say that Halle Bailey sang “Part of Your World” better than Jodi Benson!!
I know we all know it would be bad,but Eric is great at saying why it’s bad that it feels like a surprise
Exactly why I didn’t see the remake
What was also disappointing was that they didn’t have Eric’s maid, which was also a great side character.
Very true! With everything else the movie got wrong, I completely forgot about her! Yeah she was a great and memorable character.
Well spotted buddy!
@@EricCarter12 I mean she is there, she is the one who bath and cloth Ariel but she did´t have nearly as big of a role like the original. Not that it is that big.
And again with some scenes and dialoge happening despice scenes they cut. Like Sebastian talks about how humiliated he has been. What do they mean climbing? Not the almost cooked by a savage chef who would strenghten Tritons argument?
The original is way better. The skuttlebut still haunts me in my nightmares
OMG please do this with more disney vs live actions

1. Halle Bailey’s singing is spectacular
2. I actually liked the remakes version of Kiss the Girl more
I can agree that Halle's singing is pretty good, but not the second part lol.
I agree with your points, though I wouldn't say I like the live action films version more. I would say I like both of them
It really is a shame.
The only reason the remake was made was for people to rush to Disney plus and rewatch the original as a remedy
The original was far much better.
Yes 👍
By a landslide.
MLP's Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich as Ariel and Eric Part of Your Worlds
awkwafina is just the worst, you described her perfectly
I pick 1989 one
Nah I much rather listen to Eric ranting about all these remakes than watching them... Great video as always
Lol thanks Rafael. There's plenty more to come.
This versus video was Perfect! 👏Thank you Eric!
If Disney can't stop with the remakes, the least they can do is try to take more risks with them. Try changing things up. Put a new spin on them.
I guess you could say that this movie SUNKED
🙄🤪👏👏👏👏🤣💩Yes, indeed.
Disney Sunk their OWN SHIP
They deserve to fail
I actualy forgot Flaunders was even in this remake when i was walking out of the theater since he literly didn't do anything during the movie
The original 1989 movie will always be superior.
I checked out the 2023 one, out of curiosity, made me sick to my stomach, had to turn it off after 7 minutes.
I understand the need to add a few things, here and there, for the purposes of live action, but it's the reasons behind those changes that bother me the most:
Ariel driving the ship to defeat Ursula, is just another example of the obsession with female empowerment, that's why they gave her that role, because she's a woman, that's all the qualification she requires; plus, not having Eric save the day, doesn't give King Triton his opportunity to see that his views on humans, was incorrect.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish review next? I’m looking forward to it! Eric Carter’s videos are great!
It's not next, but it's on my list.
@@EricCarter12 Cool
Let’s just hope that The Live Action How To Train Your Dragon will not flop, be better than the Disney Live Action.
I already hate it
I don’t want to see how ugly live action Toothless will be
Arent't they planning to make Astrid biracial?
Apparently, that's a thing that was in the Viking future back then LOL
the Animated Classic of The Little Mermaid is always better
One thing that everyone forgot to miss is
Why does she keep blinking alot
I'm not sure if you take wishes for your VS, but if so, I would be interestend in what you think about Carrie (1976) vs Carrie (2013) 🤔
Scuttle too man! They made him pointless... He was the one who was supposed to break the necklace from human Ursulas neck so that she got her voice back... not Ariel in some kind of cat fight lol why did they do all that. I think at least a COUPLE of other ppl in this movie could of had a achievement or two
Disney doesn’t allow other characters besides Mary Sues to do heroic things. 🙄
Modern Disney be like “ If You Don’t like my Political Corectness , then you’re racist or bigots and don’t watch my show “
19:30 tell that to Peter Griffin
1989 ALL THE WAY!!!!! 🎉❤🎉
The big one at last! Thanks Eric!

Stranger Things 3 (2019) Versus Stranger Things 4 (2022) Video would be masterpiece from Eric Carter! 😍

Her blue dress is just horrible in the live action. I hate it. And I hate it even more that they brought it again when she got her legs by King Triton. Oh god. What happened to that beautiful blue shinny dress 👗 that glittered like sun in water
Do the jungle book next please
He has lots of videos in the pipeline. I don’t think he has time right now. But yes, good suggestion! The 2016 re imagining is the one decent one remake because it was different and had passion behind it. Plus, it wasn’t preaching to the consumers.
Eric No offense but your Quality has gone down a lot.
I miss the 1989 you.
They really thought that the movie that saved them once would save them again.
*bruh*
I can see that
Ngl. This is an entertaining irony.
I like it 👍

Maybe the Little Mermaid remake might have not failed to make money if it didn’t come out in theaters 3 weeks after Guardians 3! What do you think?
It’s also because I think most people are tired of bland live action remakes
And a week before Spider-Man across the spider verse.

@@gcehoaanimations2081Fair enough but I was referring to Disney’s own work.
It's a no brainer THE ORIGINAL IS SUPERIOR BY A LANDSLIDE!
One of the questionable things about the little mermaid remake is, why does king triton have diverse, different race, daughters either king triton adopted all of them or he had a relationship with multiple mermaids because there’s no way they all came from the same mother or Disney’s not being realistic and people say the original was problematic
Or Triton really got around. That was incredibly odd too me and it kind of lead down a very dark line of thought.
@@EricCarter12🤮🤮🤮🤮😵💫
It was pretty obvious that the original was going to win. I'm sick of these remakes and the worst part this remake has the single worst song in all of Disney. Other bad songs that were from Disney which weren't many I could tolerate. But Skuttles song in this remake was so annoying that I literally wanted to rip my ears off so I won't have to hear that song, and no Disney movie has ever made me feel that way.
We all know the answers and this video isnt nessessary. But we still love these so YES MORE XD.
I know I’m probably in the minority, but the animated version will always be superior. This is just lazy garbage.
Everyone prefers the animated version.
lovely video, I agree on most points
The Little Mermaid 1989 (and to my surprise Ariel 1989) wins!
Just like David and Goliath (or Rocky vs Ivan Drago in Rocky IV).
I hope they continue to lose money! Screw them!
2023 version hasn't even been out a month and it's already aged like sushi left out in the sun. No contest.
Question: why are grown white men in their feelings about a mermaid movie they probably didn't watch because they were into mecha robots?
Bad news: The Little Mermaid remake is elevating in numbers, so damn it
How is that a bad thing?
How is that a bad thing if anything it’s a great thing since if it happens enough Disney will either have to actually try to make a good remake or quit and give up
Edit: so uhhhh funny story it was like midnight when I said this and I thought elevating meant doing bad because I was tired as hell so yeah oops sorry about that 😅
You really want Disney to make more shitty remakes, because they see the numbers rising for TLM?
Oh boy...
