    Couple things. STAR stands for Standard Terminal Arrival Route. And with regards to the DH or MDA... The MDA is a barometric altitude. DH is a radar altitude. If you set MDA you're essentially setting the DH plus airport elevation. You usually use MDA. You use DH when doing a CATII or greater approach typically. The MDA is smoother as it is looking strictly at barometric altitude and not following the terrrain below. That altitude you were setting your DH from the FMS was the FAF altitude. Far too high for a missed approach altitude. If you want to use a standard missed approach altitude for all ILS's, 200' AGL is typical for a CAT I ILS. So, set your DH to 200'. Or, set your MDA to 200' plus airpot elevator and round up to the nearest 10'.

      Jason Hurt When I say using an DA is ‘smoother’ I’m talking with regards to the countdown to the DA. With a DH, using the radar altimeter, the terrain can cause an erratic journey to the DH. When I flew in the airlines I remember CVG landing south, I think, there is a big change in terrain just prior to the runway. If you used DH for those runways you would go from 300’ above minimums to 800’ above minimums then BOOM minimums. You just don’t use DH unless you’re shooting a CAT II or greater approach. Also, the providers you’re talking about the non-precision approaches are called CANPA procedures. We did that in the airlines as well. They used something called a DDA. Since you’re such a pro I’m sure you know what all that means. With the advent of LPV approaches there isn’t a need for CANPA procedures anymore.

    • @Banshee365
      @Banshee365 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Jason Hurt I flew for a Delta Connection Cartier in the US for 7 years. I now fly a Citation XLS under part 91. Every single training program out there teaches to use the baro DA for minimums, not DH. The DH is a height above the ground number, obtained through the radar altimeter. The only approaches that use DH are CAT II and beyond. Every single airline carrier and training center teaches baro DA for a CAT I ILS.

    Brilliant Tutorial. I have recently made my first full flight in the A320 from EGGD Bristol to LEGE Girona, Spain, and the take off, climb, and the rest of the flight went really well, but I did not set up the approach properly, and had no ILS guidance, so I had to manually land the aircraft. On the approach, I was way too high, so had to make a go around, but I did eventually land successfully, but it will be nice to try this, and actually have the full ILS guidance. Thank you so much for doing this.

    The thing that is giving me the real hard time is the fact that as a DCS veteran I am used to having plenty of tutorials and the own plane manuals to go to and get my propper theory _BEFOREHAND_ . This sim pretends you to know how to pilot a damn 320 NEO based on what, youtube videos and trial and error? As an engineer I really dislike doing things I have no idea about. Your videos help me a lot at least to be familiar with the systems.

    • @A5tr0101

      DCS only have tutorials for the one plane tho in the base edition?

    • @fns58
      @fns58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@A5tr0101 Negative. Each plane has its own tutorials. Maybe some of them don't depending on the developer behind. But the main thing is that when I bought aircrafts there, they not only came with instructional flights, they also came with the complete aircraft manual, and there were also a ton of people behind doing very in depth tutorials of each system.

    • @fluffyfirehydrant
      @fluffyfirehydrant 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@fns58 The thing I love about DCS aircraft is that for all intents and purposes they are study level. When we buy a new plane we can just download the actual handbook for it and follow that. From what I can tell after watching a few tutorials on the a320, it's quite hit and miss with which features actually function correctly in-game.

    • @seanother8854
      @seanother8854 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fns58 well yes, but this is a default aircraft, so it's COMPLETELY UNFAIR to compare them to DCS aircraft, which cost ~~$60, a $60 plane for this game will be highly functional and more than likely come with manuals and paperwork. As we've seen with every add-on plane that's come for sims before this for fsx, P3D, xp11 etc

    • @seanother8854
      @seanother8854 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fluffyfirehydrant and yeah it's a default 'free' aircraft, which you are comparing to $60 DCS aircraft.I'm kinda disappointed with the 320 myself but hey, people are already working on functionality mods, and of course add-ons will come

    Two suggestions:
    1. Please slow down between each button push, change, etc. Many of us put your videos on one monitor, the sim on another and attempt to follow along. With a 5-10sec pause it would actually save time vs having to restart parts of the video.
    2. Please slow down and put on your "announcer" voice vs. your everyday speech. Many of us are not native English speakers, and even if we are, you have a cool accent but it can make it *very* hard to understand what you are saying.
    Otherwise, you ROCK! Please keep these up

    Something helpful especially on approach is that you can have the Navigation map display the target altitude under each Waypoint. Just push the "CSTR" button (constraints) which @ 5:22 is just to the right of the barometric pressure he's changing from "std" to "1011".

    Another video where a student pilot was showing an ILS landing in a cockpit simulator, there was no need to wait for diamond in the glide slope indicator to touch the yellow line before turning on the approach button. As long as you are on correct approach and ILS captured, turn on the approach and the plane autopilot will automatically adjust no matter where the diamond is on the glide slope. You can also do a managed speed landing and the speed will be automatically adjusted by the autopilot, just need to adjust flaps and lower the gear during the approach.

    Great clear instructions thanks! I've finally got the courage together to move onto the A320; Citation Longitude and CJ4 were my extremes, As you say, trial and error are great for learning. One thing about the Autopilot compared to CJ4/Others is that the buttons can be pressed or pulled/ managed-selected mode. Something I had no idea about until recently. Thanks again!

    Drawyah, love your videos. You’ve essentially taught me everything I know about flying IFR in this game. Any chance you could slip in go-around procedures in one of your videos? Experienced my first go-around at KJFK and literally had no idea what to do besides to set the TO/GA thrust, thanks!

    Thank you for a great tutorial I was having problems trying to setup my landings. All other aspects of the flight were fine but this has really helped me.
    I've been waiting on ATC telling me to descend but kept finding I was too high when close to the airport. Think that is what I was doing wrong.

    Thank you Drawyah, the Flight Factor A320 tutorials are too long and I just was looking for the ILS button sequence which you demonstrated very clearly.

    Love the A320 tutorials. Would you be able to create a video on taxiing once landed? I never know which way to go to get to my gate, thanks

    I was so used to the zibo 737 having hundreds of hours on it, so it was very confusing for me to move to the A320 especially as it still doesn’t have some feature ( for example vnav). Your videos really helped me a lot.

    I've been following your tutorials. I was able to start the plane, set up a plan from Atl to JFK.
    Everything went off without a hitch and I got to the last 40 miles to the runway.
    Somehow is was like 300 miles high, and I was too far to the right of the run way.
    Landing is probably the hardest.

      Setting up the approach and landing takes time and practice, but after a few goes I'm sure you'll manage to get it going! ✈️
