I do this type of work professionally. Why did you set a string line? You didn't use it to create a straight bed line and you didn't appear to use it to establish final height.

I would have set a grade stake establishing final and course heights.
Buried the first course at least 2/3 below final grade in front of wall to keep the wall from sliding out from the bottom.
Then using levels would have laid the base course and stacked on top. If the wall was straight I would definitely have used a string line. But with the curves its been my experience the the string line just gets in the way. Trust your skills and your tools to do a good job.

Looks good! But whats the string line for? It didn't look like you followed the straight line. Was it to keep a consistent hight for the base layer measuring from the line down to the blocks?

I see this was posted over a year ago. How is it holding up today? Any issues or anything you would have done differently? Looking to do something similar soon
Overall, it’s held up well. The only thing i would have done differently isn’t in the video. This connects to the corner of my patio. If I could I would change how it blends into the patio.

Some are asking to show the leveler when placing the string up
The level line is set at the height that corresponds to your height based on the pavers you’re using and how many rows you’re doing.
In my case 1.5 brinks are above grade so that’s 6 inches above ground.

If you want to learn how not to correctly perform this project, watch this video. We do this a lot for a company I work for and we will never do it this way. Just like in the other comments, this look won’t last. We regularly get called back to fix what DYI’ers and other so-called professional companies do. It’s truly frustrating to see hard-working people want to improve their properties, hire someone like this, only to have to spend so much more to undo the errors. Guess anybody can just start a TH-cam channel nowadays.😂

Congrats, you've created a pond to trap water next to your foundation and create a mold problem.
No I didnt. Water can still flow through the vertical spacing in between the pavers. I only glued the horizontal sides where the 2 rows of pavers meet.

I think you’re over thinking this. Below is the long form version where I go into more detail. The total height is 6” above ground and it’s a really flat area of my property but graded away from the house. Rocks will be behind it on top of the weed block. Water will get absorbed into the ground/plants and any extra will move away from the house through the brick. I watched this work as expected with out an issue from all the snow I got this year melting away.

However, I'm a geologist who has seen thousands of moldy foundations and sills, cracked footings, and damages caused by expansive soils in my decades of work. Geotechnical recommendations, and often local building codes, specify continuous drainage away from footings to protect them, the walls on top of them, and the slab inside of them, from damage caused by water. Will the damage show up in the first year or two? Probably not. Will the damage show up eventually, and was that damage entirely preventable? Yes to both. In addition, if you get enough snow that you need to clear it off your roof then your line of blocks becomes a potential tripping hazard for anyone looking up while they clear the roof instead of down at their feet. I'm getting close to 80 years old, and I don't want to trip while backing away from a roof avalanche that I just caused.
I appreciate your concern, but it's not an issue. Water flows away from the house. I have a steep roof, awning, and gutters. No one is going to be on that side of the house in winter scrapping snow off the roof. Even with the record level of snow this year the snow bank barely covered the furthest point on the curve of the edging. you could easily account for the 4-6 feet of covered edging in the middle of this 45' run by looking at it. The down spout sits on top of the edging, the water flows over the edging and on the grass, then down the grade of my yard.
If anything it's better now because the previous plastic edging was solid so water couldn't move through it and I have a lot of clay in my soil so it's difficult for water to go down into the ground. Now with the paver base that is a sand gravel mixture and the space in the pavers it's easier for water to move.
