Hi, very well laid out and explained video.
I done something similar up front of my home, but used those "standstone look besser block"
Actually they look like sandstone in colour and texture but are a form of compress dust but they lok spectacular and expansive.
So i have the front of the home, then about a meter or so like what you have ( i am in Australian and a meter is almost 39 inches ) the rocks are the same white marble in 20-35mm ( i think 3/4 to 1.5 inch ) round rock - no defects
Then i have the pavers in front of the blocks, this is to make lawn mowing easier and it looks nicer
On the side of the house that does not have a driveway, i used a much cheaper option, i cleared the weeds and poisoned the grass and let it sit 2 weeks, i then covered it all in landscaping fabric, then i used about 3 tons of 15 to 20mm coloured washed river rocks , these are mixed off white, grey, light brown and yellowish, they are not perfectly smooth, most are chipped and to be honest in photos at the garden supply they look like loose teeth !!
I chose then because of colour variation and also they are about 20-25% the price of that large white
I also ended up buying a garden gate some outdoor pretreated termite resistant posts and a wall mounted retractable hose reel.
This had made the front of the house look much nicer and "upmarket" - Price for everything was about $800 Australian
The only trap is take measurements, and donot buy those pre made bags, i find the price per bag to be about x5 time the bulk delivery, so if you get 10 x 20kg bags, it works out the same as 1,000 kg delivered by tipper truck
I helped a neighbour do the same, but he chose the 10mm fine crush red rocks ( or crushed lava )
So, my front is great and the real reason is that there was a existing paver edging that i used , i have approx 45 foot frontage now done , all but about 5 or 6 of them are still standing perfectly - the few that sag i just twice a year raise the blocks and add paving sand to level up and put the block back, next time i will try your paving base
The negative, none, i did do a section at the rear of the house against the fence, but in 3 years they are all crooked, i will use your method and purchase a ground tamperer and get if flat and hard then redo it

Looks great! I had mine like this in Missouri and it really helped keep things looking clean, especially with all the rain we had around there. You could add solar lights and even potted plants that you could move indoors during winter. Nice job.

Thank you for the feedback! It does rain a lot here too so it definitely makes it a lot more pleasant to see and less gloomy. I might add some solar lights for that night effect! Thank you for the advice! 🙏🏽😊

NIce job! If you ask me I should have put the weed blocker just below the Marble Rock. My reason was because it's outdoor and due to the weather especially rain overtime the stone will be protected the barrier not covered by the sand.

Oh my goodness. Well, I wouldn't think about doing that much work by myself but I can't afford to hire somebody to do it for me either. This may be an easy DIY for an able-bodied young man who has time on his hands, but not for a lot of us. Your children are adorable!

how did you ensure the slight slope away from the house? just when filling with the paver sand or when digging the trench? how many hours did it take you? looks great!

Clean work. But help me understand why you didn't put the weed barrier under the rocks with some preen as a pre-emergent. I'm thinking you're going to have a major issue with weeds in that bed for the foreseeable future...?

For anyone who has done this project, do weeds still find a way to grow on the rocks?

    • @Grief111
      @Grief111 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

Eventually they will since the natural process of leaves and other organic matter breaking down on top of the rocks will give a place for weeds to grow.
In my experience, every couple years you will need to remove the rocks and clean everything out.
