  • I have been getting a lot of questions about how I trained Dallas "Anti-Theft" and why it is important as well as some things that can go wrong. So in this video I wanted to cover all of those questions and teach y'all how you can train your dog "Anti-Theft"
    What is "Anti-Theft"?
This is a skill that you can train your dog so you can tell them to "Stay" in one place while you leave or walk away. The dog will not get up until you release them. This means that if a stranger walks up and tries to steal your dog, the dog will not go with them because you did not release them.

If I may add-when you reach the release cue, don’t ALWAYS release from a distance! This can teach your dog not to relax during a down stay because they know they’ll have to get up and come to you. But releasing from a distance is also an important thing for them to be able to do! And this is one of the best tutorials I’ve seen on the internet. You two are awesome!

That is a good idea, definitely switch it up on them so they don’t get to comfortable with one thing.
      Thank u so much!

Thank you for the detailed explanation and demonstration - it makes a lot more sense now. Will definitely make sure my dog is trained for this - whether the program does it or I end up doing it myself, it will happen.

This seems like a super useful skill. Thanks for the demonstration and explanations. I think I might teach it a bit differently because One of the things I’m working out with my dog if if I reach her leash I want her to stand up and come with me so I don’t wanna get in the habit of not coming when I tug on it I think I might use a friend or family member for that part. Will Dallas come if anyone else uses the word release or only you?

If a friend or family member says her release command she will go to them but will then try to find me. I don’t believe she would go with a stranger even if they used her release command.
If you put your dog in a stay and u want them to get up when u grab the leash u can always work on saying release bad u grab the leash. It might take time for the dog to understand that they can get up once u say release the first time. They might wait a bit to see if u are testing them. But they will learn your body language over time

If going unconscious while your dog is in a down stay is a concern, while doing the training practice that scenario as well. Like I will do training sessions where I pretend to pass out and let her do the correct behavior and then reward her for doing so. The next step would be to put them in a down stay, practice trying to pull the leash and such like Bri demonstrated but then pass out, if they come and respond to ur pass out with the trained behaviors reward and practice often :)

Yes this is a great thing to practice as well! I believe it’s called obedient disobedience (they do this with guide dogs a lot). Dogs are so smart they know when it’s okay to disobey a direct command in order to protect their handler.
