Sammy Davis Jr. was an American singer, dancer, actor, comedian, film producer & television director. He was also part of the famous "Rat Pack", led by his friend Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop & Peter Lawford. He appeared in many movies, television & performed in Las Vegas. Slick Back Mr Cool was a Black Jew with one glass eye (seriously). He would play in Las Vegas at clubs that he was not allowed to stay in. He was always loved by people of every flavor, but the laws were the laws. I saw him many times on television and in movies and thought he was a good singer. When I saw him live in Vegas, it changed everything for me. He took the whole audience on an emotional journey for an hour that was unforgettable. Sammy Davis Jr. was one of the many performers in the 60s & 70s that you had to see live before you discovered their amazing talent to connect with every single person in an audience on a personal level.
I`m so happy to see Mr Davis making his way into the mix of people being reacted to. He was truly one of the greats and deserves to be remembered as much as any of the others from that Rat Pack. He had a guest appearance on a Shirley MacLaine movie from the late 60`s, Sweet Charity, he played a preacher and I`m not sure that he even had any lines but he had an amazing performance of a song called The Rhythm Of Life, there may be a few versions of him performing the song live on TH-cam but try to find the clip from the movie which is both an amazing performance and is funny because of the crazy colors of the clothes they are wearing

He almost died in a horrific car accident in which he lost an eye among other serious injuries, but survived because Frank Sinatra used his connections to threaten the hospital staff who were refusing to treat Sammy. He also made a guest appearance on All In The Family where he planted a kiss on Archie Bunker for one of the shows best comedy moments.

Dionne Warwick or Andy Williams. Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra. They were all a part of my childhood that made me appreciate people with talent. No matter what the color. Christmas wasn't Christmas without Bing Crosby and the Great Nat King Cole.

Thank you very much for keeping the spirit of Sammy alive. He is the GOAT entertainer. I truly believe he was the first one named act there was. Before Elvis, Cher, Madonna, etc. there was Sammy. A lot of people don't realize the original Rat Pack was linked to Humphrey Bogart and his friends of the time but, eventually Frank took it over. Frank probably brought Sammy in to keep his own career going. Just kidding on that. Frank met Sammy when he was younger with the Will Mastin Trio featuring Sammy. People want to say that Frank was responsible for Sammy's success but, the Will Mastin Trio was pulling in about 5K per week in Vegas in the 50's before Sammy became part of the Rat Pack. Albeit once Sammy did Oceans 11 his career did really take off on his own without the trio. However, Sammy's loyalty to his father and uncle lasted to the end of their days. I am fortunate enough to be a Golden Key holder to Sammy's gravesite because of my family relationship.
