I bought one of these about eight years ago. I have used it extensively for both acoustic as well as electric gigs. It has paid for itself over and over.
I've tried many multi effects units and I just love how natural sounding all the sounds are with the Nova system. This is a great demo and very informative. Thanks for doing this!
Nice one Dan. You are really showing us that gear we truly thought was outdated still does their job - and the way you show it s just excellent. Always a thrill when a new Dan Baker video is out! Folks: Note that Dan do have a Patreon account, and chipping in will help Dan producing these videos!
Hi dan first love your playing thank you for the video very easy to understand I just got one yesterday i ordered it and is on the way love the way you through each pre-set awesome video
Just bought one of these instead of just a reverb/trem pedal. More functionality and less money. The quality seems to be top notch. I only want reverb and tremolo for my amps with no reverb, The delay, chorus and other effects are a bonus for me and I am looking forward to receiving it
I don’t like the Helix. The sounds are great, but buttons next to a screen is old hat and fiddly. The Headrush Gigboard is much better as it’s all touch screen...
Hey Dan: Caught the whole vid. You know that product very well. The problem with that multi-effects pedal system is, you do need to have it on a table so you can "shift it into gear"!! Or.. have a roadie set it for each song you maybneed it for. This is not designed to be used with the foot! I have watched Phil Keaggy use his looper doing 'Salvation Army Band'. He uses his fingers also. But his pedals are on the floor. Thank you so much. You still have me thinking about it though. It's not going on Ebay yet. I also have a ' Vox TonelabLE' multi-effects pedal system as well. Its a little more manageable than the TC Electonics Nova System. And it comes with a Pedal.
They are good but I know what you mean about the programming. The thing I like about it is the sounds. It doesn’t try to be anything but mega useful and subtle.
Nice demo Dan. I've just bought a used unit. How do I delete ALL the previous presets so that I can start again with my own. I intend to just use a few effects by stomping on the pedals until I get fiddling with storing presets etc. Sorry but I didn't get a user manual with it.
Love the analog vibe on this. How does it compare to "contemporary" devices like the Boss GT series and the Line 6 Pod Go. Esp when it comes to sounds. It's available here in India on a website brand new - are they still being made. Thanks for the video!
For me it’s the tactile nature that makes it good. Sounds wise, I would expect that more modern units give a more sympathetic analog emulation, but as it’s guitar effects, it’s all subjective!
Hello dan!! I loved the demo. Could you make another video showing the three-band equalizer, noise gaite and compressor? I subscribed to your channel. Cheers ;)
Great vid dan, thanks. Never had any effects peddles so far, just a looper but just picked up one of these units on your favourite auction site so looking forward to playing with it and learning what effects are all about. After your review I feel I already know my way around the basics. Not quite sure why the vid volume ended suddenly at the end mind. I believe also there are different ways you can run the unit, ways you can save presets? Etc which you didn’t go into which would have been useful. Thanks.
Wow! Dan: This is the vid I've been searching for!!! I bought a used / refurbished Nova for about $250.00 in 2014. Was very intimidated by it. I watched several vids but couldn't grasp it. Most instructionals would have the unit on the table and they would swich modes with their fingers. That doesn't work in the real world at gigs. Gonna watch this over the weekend and dig in. What's your time frame to learn this rig? Thanks for the post.✌♥️ ( the best idea I saw was Peter Thorn's idea of putting a pedal on it and making a travel case for it)
There are some ways around this - for instance you can set up the pitch block for a detune, which sounds a lot like chorus and then you can leave the MOD block free. Most of my patches are setup like this so I can use tremolo and detune together.
@@DanBakerMusic and i have read the tap tempo reacts when you lift your foot not when you put the Button down, is that right? I think then there might be some Problems when IT comes to sync the delay to a certain beat.
Fantastic video. Hell, this is better than the ones that TC Electronic made for it!! I have owned one of these for a few years and love it. I use it through the FX loop but it sounds great either way.
@@CarlitoM77 When going through the loop the drive/distortion is turned off. There is a setting that you have to change depending on whether it's through the loop or in the front of the amp. The comp still works and sounds great.
@@ampinguard88 thx for the reply! I was hoping I can somehow use the drive through the front and the modulation effects through the effects loop but I guess I'll settle for the comp and modulation effects through loop.
@@CarlitoM77 I was hoping to use it the same way but, unfortunately, TC didn't give us the option. I have quite a bit of OD pedals already so, at the end of the day, it wasn't too big of a deal for me to not use that feature but I can totally see how some players would like to use it both ways at the same time. Having said that, I've seen/heard quite a few players that use it through the front of their amp with heavy effects and it sounded great.
@@AFullNelson I did like 3 and it literally cut out during a couple of gigs and I was like heck with this, it sounds good but it wasn’t reliable and I also read that some other people had the same problem, maybe they fixed it I don’t know...
The BEST overview of a piece of equipment in the history of the internet. Take a box Dan Baker!! Thank you.

Cool Video Dan. I've wanted one of these for years. The 'deep physics' remark cracked me up. Cheers~!
I just got one of these older, great units. Thanks for a great understandable demo and explanations.
Best no nonsense video and tutorial. Thank you for that.
Thanks very much!

Very enjoyable and informative. I still gig happily with my Nova System 👍
All TC nova pedals sound fantastic.I have a few but this one is really nice.
Well done in depth demo . A proper demo from someone who actually KNOWS the unit perfectly and can play decent guitar !
Thanks very much for watching and your positive comments!
Another usefull demo from Dan without any fluff & nonsense! Cheers mate!
Cheers Sharon!

Great video - Ive just bought one online and now won't need to be going anywhere near the manual !
Cool! Thanks for sharing your equipment.
Thanks for this. Just got one of these things for free last night and excited to mess with it this weekend.
That’s amazing. A great bit of kit but even more amazing that it’s free!
Great, thorough video, buddy! Thanks for taking the time to make it! :)
Great video! There's something about this old trust worthy machine that keeps us prefering it form the new complicated Hellix etc.

great video. straight to the point while funny too. thanks!

That I’m not sure. There should be a factory reset, but I’m sure there’s a PDF manual online for it...
@@DanBakerMusic Thanks for your super quick response.
Ive just GOOGLED how to do it and one suggestion came up.
Will try it tomorrow. Cheers.

I was hoping to see some Distortion and Delay Lead
Nice job, man! Do you know if this pedal has a drop tune?
I've just bought one recently. ☺️
Is there a power on switch for this unit or is just plug in to the power and its all go?
There is a switch on the unit for power...

I borrowed it from a mate and then did the video about an hour later. It’s that intuitive that it just programmed itself!
Hi there, is it possible to use various MODs (ex. chorus & vibrato or tremolo & flanger) at the same time?
