You know, this news report is actually pretty well done, and props to the video editor. Decently explained and researched. ...Wow, I can't believe I said that about Fox news.
Strangly it being on the news did not end its coolness... AYBABTU is still around though admittedly it must now share the spotlight with "The cake is a lie!"
1:55 “Its coolness might be over soon” It’s such a novel concept to them to not take a popular thing, beat it to death, keep beating it, wear it as a hat, find countless other ways to use it until they get bored and move on the something else.
Some extra nostalgia for me ... I remember seeing all three of the people at the news anchor's desk on Fox News Chicago. I can't remember any of their names, but I remember when the guy on the far left of the desk started out. He used to switch his words and fumble pronunciations like crazy. It irritated the hell out of me, he just kept on giving it his best. Over time I grew to prefer when he was on the screen.
uhm, hi, june 2024 here. you're watching a video uploaded in 2006 about a news report aired in march 2001, regarding a phrase that went viral around then from a game made in 1989, 35 years ago at this time.
Oh, they are so wrong!!! "All your stuff are belong to us" comes from the days of Soviet era communism. It was a Russian accented way of telling the bourgeoisie that all their stuff are belong to the proletariat now. I know this because I was born when Eisenhower was President, and I've studied the history of events prior to that even.
"In a rush to get that game released in this country, the Japanese was translated into English, bad grammar and all." The bad grammar was not translated into English. The rushed translation caused the bad grammar. I assume that's what he meant, but it's not what he said. Also, "and all" suggests that something was done to the point of completion and then some. (e.g. "I ate the apple, core and all.") Bad grammar is not the result of a full translation, it's the sign of a failed translation.
When i bought this game i would've never thought that the news would notice this hilarious mistake that i noticed as a kid. This is so perfect for me, it's like the ultimate inside joke coming to light.
Correction in this Report (Yes, I know this report is old). Zero Wing was never released in North America. The broken English translation was in the European version for the Sega Mega Drive since the game was only released in Japan and Europe. The only North American version was for the arcades in 1989, but that one didn't have the broken English.
LMFAO, that just got on my WTF?! list! Leave it to FOX to find the best video game quote of all time and make a story of it for the 6 o'clock news. good find!
I remember loving this as a kid but I had no idea it was ever such a big thing outside of the internet community. Was this possibly the first widespread meme to exist?!
I love how they say, "Don't ask where the saying came from" and then they go on to explain where it came from.
+SirJamesDTech It would a pretty shitty report if they didn't even report the first thing that would come up if you googled it.
+randumo24 Yeah, a great showcase of journalistic effort and investigation to say "Don't ask, where it's from, don't ask, what it means, just accept it is everywhere."
Yea if it was CNN they would say they didn't recall, that the email was deleted, and the hard drive doesn't seem to work anymore or was destroyed.
+Streifi true
Well, if they explain, there is no need to ask anymore?
"It's coolness might be over soon" Maybe in 2101.
That is when war will beginning, after all.
I'd guess it'll be 2111 when all bases of CATS will be destroyed.
i mean he is right, and you never hear anyone on the news say this meme is dead because of it going mainstream
It is still kinda cool now but not really so i guess Fox News predicted the future
NEVER!
The Year 2020: The year all your base may actually belong to us.
LoL. This is gold 😂
Year 2023, Russia to Ukraine: All us belong to your base.
COVID-19:your on your way to destruction
Humans:what you say!?
COVID-19:you have no chance to survive make your time.ha ha ha ha
I use grammar similar to this sometimes to parody this meme even though I don't know the origin of it.
