    On the 4Runner, you CANNOT reach the back (lower) bolts for the air injection valves. We were able to remove the side bolts that connect those valves to the exhaust tubes with a 1/4" socket, wobble joint and a combination of extensions. We zip-tied the wire harness up to the windshield wiper and taped the bolt to the socket and taped the wobble joint. It was not easy, but we were able to do it. The 2 air injection valves were removed WITH the rear coolant bypass and installed WITH the rear coolant bypass. Hardest part of the job, hands down.

    The pitting is caused by electrolysis. This can be greatly reduced by replacing your coolant at proper intervals.

    I really appreciate this video you made. Probably have to do this to my 04 Tundra...
    I did a timing belt replacement and I think the o-ring at the water pump connected to the crossover pipe isn't working. I'm hoping it's the bypass gaskets and it's unrelated to the work I did 😢

    • @michaelmagaruh7767

      Same! I have an 07 4Runner. Did the timing belt/water pump. I cleaned everything up, that part seems to be good but then I found out about this new leak. Have coolant running from the back of the engine near the bell-housing (transmission) & engine. Hoping that this bypass/crossover rear pipe will solve the problem!

      My leak actually ended up being from a different place. I'm Glad I didn't go tearing things apart again, check the lines towards the rear of the engine at the top of the firewall. I had a loose clamp And a damaged hose so I had to cut it and reclamp it.

    You dont happen to have a complete list of parts with part numbers from this job? If not I can go through the video and get them from what you showed. I have a GX470 which is leaking coolant similar to this so would like to do the same job and change the started while I'm at it. Should be all the same since its the same engine right?

    Hi, great video. A bit late asking this question. Do you think a gasket sealant could be applied to the pitted area? Did you consider it? And, if yes, what was the reason deciding against it? Thank you 👍

    Can the switching valves be installed on the crossover pipes before it's reinstalled? In other words, install the crossover pipe with the valves installed?

      That's a bit of a logistical challenge. My main goal with most these videos is to do the job properly. I try to catch what I can, but there's about 10 hours of undocumented stuff in these big jobs. I'm only one dude with a cell phone so I'm definitely going to miss some steps in the filming.

    Any FIPG used in coolant by pass gaskets?

    • @user-df1gh8le6l
      @user-df1gh8le6l  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely not where the orings go. I think there's a spot in the front timing cover area (unsure if I touched that in this job) where some fipg is used, but not on the orings. That's a big no-no.

    • @user-df1gh8le6l
      @user-df1gh8le6l  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Lexus manual (commonly called the "FSM") for repair procedures. For parts, I use ToyoDIY. Register for an account and you get the full parts diagrams. Once you learn to speak the "Toyota parts language" it's immensely powerful and will save you a ton of time on the phone with the parts folks. If that doesn't answer your question, let me know.
