My noisemaker is gone. I feel like I'm driving an adult car now. Genuine engine sounds and a little bump in response. Love the extra room in the bay as well. Thanks!
Hey Bimmerdude, just got my R56 and loved this mod. Did it to mine straight away and I can tell there's a slight difference for the better of course. Keep the vids coming.
Have a similar noise pipe on my mk5 GTI and also removal. One option was removing the noise pipe section and using an expansion plug to seal off the throttle body pipe. Worked perfect.. should be able to do the same here
Would it be possible to to remove the big black pipe, cut the small hose inlet off for the "noise maker" and plug that hole with a piece of plastic and plastic weld? that way you dont have to cut the pipe, but you delete the thing you want to? Just an idea from watching this. Or, you can add a piece of rubber hose around the big black pipe, and clamp it down around the inlet hole you would cut off. That would seal the hole that is there and no more noise maker.
What is the benefit of this? Obviously, quieter inside the cabin, but does it do anything to the sound outside the cabin? Does it add any type of performance?
Why didn't you just pop off the hose that goes to the interior at the pipe you are working on and just cap the T off, plug maker hose cost about $4 and leave the noise maker hose, in case you go to sell it .
Because the T piece is bad for airflow... Gas response is way better without that. And every gram that you remove from the Car is performance! Weight reduction brooo!!!
Bimmer Dude, I just got onto your videos. I recently got a 2009 Cooper S and am trying some budget tweaks. Loving your videos so far. I wish we could have had a before and after sound comparison of your MINI starting up and revving though so we could hear the difference. I am catching up on all your vids, but what year is your MINI?
I just bought a 09 S as well. Putting in a new OEM clutch, and thinking about changing the timing belt before it gives any problems like they say it would. Mine has 68K on it.
I don’t like the noise maker too, but I connect his ssqv to the noise maker connection instead of replace the pipe. Another way of making some good noise when I shift gear.
Instead of going through of cutting and grinding why not leave as is just disconnect the hose that goes to the cabin and just CAP-OFF where the tee is? Is that make sense? Is the Tee-pipe has any baffle? If it straight throuh just the tee just cap it off, home depot sell the rubber cap i think its about 1 1/4".
How much boost you make? I did the diy between the turbo and intercooler and made it have a little bump so it stays on. Looks like this would work and I’ll add my little bumps to keep my hoses from coming off at 23 psi 😂
You could of cutoff the side pipe from the plastic part and added a straight pipe on the inside after the quick connect where the is and then make the connection.
Bimmer Dude have you noticed any negative results with capping off the idle side pcv hose? I assume you're running a catch can on the other side. Is there any benefits to capping off the idle side instead of leaving it as is or running a catch can on that side as well?
Why didn't you put the clamp behind the bit you cut off instead? If you wish to revert back to stock then you could have. Also, did you actually take anything out of the car a part from the pipe intersection? What happens with the pipe that was attatched to the intersection, the bit that goes to the noise maker. Cheers
I recommend putting a couple of small sheet metal screws thru the hose where you cut the factory coupling off. The elbow is really short and the hose clamp isn’t quite enough to hold it on the pipe under boost.
This. The pipe with no rib and such short overlap with the hose will be a huge risk of blowing off under boost. Doing dodgy mods like this will only give you and the next owners something you have to fix correctly down the track. Would have been better blocking the smaller hose and keeping the plastic factory section, or get the right aluminium intercooler piping with beads on both ends.
Man, what exactly is this piece you removed for? why does she enter into the panel? taking it out can damage something? I saw that you took another part from under the intercooler too! help this friend in Brazil please!

So I thought the purpose of the factory resonator was to reduce sound and by removing it the intake sound would increase, so then it actually the opposite?

Hey mate, so I just did the same mod using a 2'' intercooler pipe that I cut. After a few "spirited" driving sessions the hose blew off from one end of the pipe. The other end was bulged to keep the hose secure, but the end that I cut was smooth so the hose is only held by the clamp. did you have any issues with hose blowing off?
Oh man thats not good. I personally dont have any issues with hoses blowing off. If youll look back @ 9:25 youll see i scuffed up the pipping where the metal would meet the rubber. Also you could #1 create a bead of JB weld on the edge to give the rubber hose something to hang onto #2 old fashion trick is use hair spray on the edges of the pip to help it stick. have you tried replacing the cabin filter? if your getting a burning/oil smell check your valve cover gasket, oil filler cap & make sure the turbo oil feed line isn't leaking oil as it could easily be oil dripping onto the exhaust 'burning' hence the smell.. in short check for oil leaks.. Hey Dude, First of all, thank you for your videos. I did not remove the plastic section that you replaced by cutting a pipe, instead I inserted a smaller diameter pipe and plug the hole with a hole plug that I found from the auto parts store. (Same place where you buy those metal pipe). It seems ok, there was no error code using a universal scanner. Do you really need a bmw/mini scanner to adjust something once you delete and why? Thanks.
Hey friend, seems to me like you made it work just fine :) You don't NEED a mini scanner to reset the adaptions. But it highly recommended to have one just incase you have problem down the road. its nearly impossibly to pinpoint the actual issue with a universal one. Thanks for leaving a comment and thanks for watching!
@@BimmerDude You are lucky because there is almost no play between engine and chassis at that point. I'm just about to make this mod on my wife's car, but I am tempted to print a plug for the "plastic piece" and epoxy it in. Can anyone see a problem doing that?
wouldnt this have been easier to disconnect the hose and slap a cap on the diverter that leads to the cab ..or am i thinking about this in the wrong way 0_0
Nope never. I actually think that would be seriously fun though I have driven front wheel drive cars on roads like that though the MINI would be a blast I'm sure!
You could always use an 8mm or 10mm socket wrench to remove those hose clamps, anyway good video. I did the mod and needless to say OMG throttle response plus it sounds better.
I know it's convenient to hit up auto zone or what ever auto store is nearby, but these guys here www.siliconeintakes.com/ have an unlimited amount of usable stuff for all air intake and turbo needs that you can make work. The down side is you're waiting for shipping, up side it'll appear more professional.
That just defeats the purpose of removing the noise maker in the first place. Just capping that outlet will still leave a pocket that air will push into and cause turbulence (you don't want that) what you do want is a smooth path for the air to move through. Because of the turbulence created by "capping" your not making anything better and might as well leave it as is.
We wanted to see how the sound changed! Before/after change.

I'm just about to make this mod on my wife's car, but I am tempted to print a plug for the "plastic piece" and epoxy it in. Can anyone see a problem doing that?
That's a really good ide actually 👌
wouldnt this have been easier to disconnect the hose and slap a cap on the diverter that leads to the cab ..or am i thinking about this in the wrong way 0_0

does it trigger any code?
Ever take that thing on dirt roads they handle so well and pull out of a slide like nothing
Nope never. I actually think that would be seriously fun though I have driven front wheel drive cars on roads like that though the MINI would be a blast I'm sure!
the hose with a bump in it is a defect in the material it should be replaced
The real test for this is going to be when you turn up the boost 😈
well i used an old trick.. the pipe is slightly oversized and I stole some of my wives hair spray >;)
Bimmer Dude 🤣😂 oh yes ive been there before with the hairspray.
You could always use an 8mm or 10mm socket wrench to remove those hose clamps, anyway good video. I did the mod and needless to say OMG throttle response plus it sounds better.
you mean 1/4 inch or 7mm
hi, what diameter is the tube? ø mm
Should had painted the pipe before installing :)
This is awesome, now can you come over to my house and do the same on my R57. :)
omg get a sawzall for cutting crap like that buddy (:
Or at least a 1mm cutting disk
Anybody going to tell him they make a beautiful silicone house that does this? 😏
Noise maker,!!! My 03 cooper S doesn't need that, it's naturally sporty..
Equaliser funny story, this car has turbo muffler on one side, a noise maker on the other lol da fuq tbh
Your telling that the cool blow off sound is just BS? Geez. Really, Mini just installed a noise maker?
I know it's convenient to hit up auto zone or what ever auto store is nearby, but these guys here www.siliconeintakes.com/ have an unlimited amount of usable stuff for all air intake and turbo needs that you can make work. The down side is you're waiting for shipping, up side it'll appear more professional.
I wanna hear these mods 😤
Put a Cap on the 'Noisemaker Pipe' + 'Fire Hole' and you are done!
