The verse (Deuteronomy 33:22l is speaking about the tribe of Dan and is comparing the tribe to a young lion, which are known for their strength and boldness. Most likely, Bashan was a well-known haunt for lions in Old Testament times and so that is why it connects the place with lions. So probably what this verse is talking about is that the tribe of Dan would boldly leap upon its prey much like a young lion in Bashan would do. Some also think it could be prophetically alluding to the later judge Samson, who was from the tribe of Dan and killed a lion and was also brave, strong and bold.
Mt Tabor is one of the suggested sites, but considering where Jesus and the Disciples were at that time and in the days leading up to it (Caesarea Philippi), it's far more likely that it occurred at the summit of Mt Hermon
Love this video. Do you know whether Mt Hermon is considered as part of Bashan? It would be nicely cohesive with Psalm 22, in which we see Jesus surrounded by bulls of Bashan. It's already cohesive because Bashan was a kingdom of giants, but if Mt Hermon, where Pan's Grotto is and which was considered like a portal to the netherworld, the rock upon which Christ would build His church, is solidly considered part of Bashan... Well that would be mind-blowing. 🎉
I am glad you that you like the video. 🙂 No. From what i know, Mt Hermon appears to have not been considered a part of the land of Bashan but rather acted as one of its northern borders.
You could be right, though many online sources, like Collins online dictionary, for instance, pronounce the start of it as 'bay' not 'ba' in English, which goes against us both. Others, though, pronounce it differently. Its really quite subjective and depends more on who you ask and where in the world they are from.
Wow, just found this whilst reading Zechariah. It provides brilliant context.

@@GospelandSpade thank you for the response!
Correct pronounciation is Ba-shan. Ba as in butter, shan as in shawn.
