I am 20 years old, and I have suffered with diagnosed anxiety since I was 15. I have to take fluoxetine, a medication, for it. It has messed with my ability to follow directions to the fullest, especially at work. I can still do it, but I feel like no matter how hard I tried, I always felt like I fell short. It’s still ongoing, and I will probably deal with it for the rest of my life. I normally don’t have panic attacks, but there are times I have almost threw up, and I had that hurling feeling. For me as well, social anxiety was my main issue, but not anymore. I inherited it from my dad, so I am kind of mad at him for it, but neither of us can help it. I feel you though

I also have the same plan of living at home and saving money then moving abroad. I also have the anxiety lol. My anxiety is very much in social situations and it makes it super difficult to even speak to people sometimes.
When you moved abroad, did you notice any increase in your anxiety since everything was so different and the language was different? I would love to move abroad but I can’t help but think if I’m anxious now, I can’t imagine moving to a new country where I don’t know anybody would make it better 😅

Not really. You more so go on high alert and have a sense of excitement.
The anonymity also removes social anxiety somewhat. It’s like starting completely fresh and people make things easy for you because they expect you to not know anything, in Taiwan it was like that at least. People were really helpful.
Conversations also tend to be more basic and repetitive so communication is easier. People take the pressure off you cos they are more concerned with how their English is and likely anxious themselves to a degree.
I think everyone has varying degrees of social anxiety. I’d suggest getting good at dating which should be easier to do if you’re moving out of the west.
There’s really no other way over it than through it. Don’t let it cripple travel plans, you’ll definitely regret that in later life which will be a much worse feeling.

I think meditation could only be beneficial. I remember doing 3 months of meditation with some program I did (only a few years ago). I noticed it helped me notice feelings before they fully came to the surface and was able to control emotions a lot more, so im sure it helps. 1-Giant Mind is a good app for that. Also look up Gary Brecka for other breath work a lot of people swear by.
