I use my Midnight Manager every single day. It fits into the little coin pocket of my jeans, and the flashlight makes up for the lack of tweezers or toothpick. I love the pen as well, along with all the other tool in this little giant. Amazing little device.
Happy Wednesday Justin, the Rubi ( translucent red ) 58mm Midnite Manager is my default key chain EDC. I have been carrying it everyday in my pocket for the last 3 years. Prior to that I carried carried various 58mm model classics on my key chain including a red zodiac sign one that I carried for about 30 years till the scissor spring broke - I'd lost the toothpick decades ago but the blade was still sharp - it now restored but retired from use. I carried it along with a mini-flashlight & a pen in my shirt pocket, so going over to the Midnite Manager has freed up space in my pocket & reduced my carry load somewhat. I always pair my 58mm keychain knife with either a Gentleman's knife or a Multi-tool SAK, whilst my Midnite Manager is the fixed element I rotate the other knives daily depending on what I am doing, where I am going & what I consider my needs will be that day. My Gentleman's knife rotation includes the 111mm Garant, various different colored 93mm Pioneers & Pioneer X's & 84mm Cadets and of late I have included in this group the 91mm Climber ( I have 5 , 1 in its original form & 4 in different colors fitted with Plus scales & SwissQlips ) & the 84mm Sportsman which is based on the 84mm Bantam but with additional tools that IMO make it more suitable as a Gentleman's pocket knife than the 84mm Cadet . For multi-tools I carry the 91mm Huntsman ( I have 4 fitted with different colored Plus scales & SwissQlips ) or its smaller equivalent the 85mm Evolution EvoGrip S17 or S18 - both have lock blades, the S18 has a Philips on the back but the more useful S17 has a corkscrew enabling it to carry a tinder spiral for the Firefly ferro rod & a mini-screwdriver , which is the same way I have my modified Huntsman set up. BTW I do not carry my 111mm, 93mm, 91mm or 84mm knives such as the Garant, Pioneer , Climber, Cadet, Sportsman in joint use pocket sheaths as that requires taking out the sheath just to get at the knife, instead I carry them in an individual pocket slip that fits in the pocket & allows fast extrication of the knife by tugging on the small SAK nylon lanyard I put on my knives or if I am wearing Jeans all my knives ( except the 111mm Garant & those with SwissQlips ) just about fit into the ticket/coin pocket & are easily extracted.
lightening up the load with the Midnight Manager is no joke getting to have a pen and light for basically free in terms of size and weight. You've mentioned that sportsman before and it is a very nice package but I am a sucker for the alox! Actually really enjoy busting out my GEC easy pocket congress too for fancy occasions to really flex on some folks. Saved the day with it in a recent wedding I was in. Shirts didn't have holes for cuff links so I modified them. Left mine stock because I wasn't feeling cutting my new shirt. Only person that had a knife and the only person who could tie a tie. Bunch of rookies I tell ya! When I carry the cadet in the slip I use a lanyard so I can pull it out easily. Slips right back in too since I stretched out the pocket with pioneer x.
@@EngineersPerspective701 In my EDC rotation I have 3 Cadets, one red, one black & the 3rd one is the light blue 2020 Limited Edition model ( I bought 2 when they were on sale this April and one I keep in pristine condition in its box in my Alox Limited & Special Edition collection ) . My red & black Cadets are pre-2018 models with the older style nail file which I prefer to the post-2018 style nail file that I have on my 2020 Cadet & my 84mm Sportsman

I have the regular Manager as my only real EDC, and I carry it in my 5th pocket. I went with it because my phone has a light. And in exchange for giving up the light on the Midnight, the Manager is a little bit thinner, and you get the tweezers and toothpick back (both of which I use often). But regardless, the "Rambler Line" of SAK's are just so well done, and the bottle opener/Phillips screwdriver combo tool is probably the most underrated tool in Victorinox's arsenal. Can't go wrong with any of them.
You don't have to pop up the scale to change the pen. You just pull it out with two fingers and change it with new one. The end of the pen is a ball shaped , which locks in and out (as you need) in the plastic slider. Keep up the great work!
My home knife/ lounge carry is midnite manager with my home/shop keys on the keyring. I have children and combo tool and scissors comes in handy in a small lightweight package
Hi, these small Victorinox are great. Especially if you carry a plier based multi-tool, it's the perfect addition. I have on my keys Classics SD for over 15 years, never let me down. Another benefit for me here in the UK, it's legal and none threatening. Cheers 👍
The classic got me hooked on Victorinox but the rambler is the king of keychain tools to me. Having the key run reversed and the philips driver makes it perfect for me. I went back to it from the midnight manager because I missed the scale tools
@Engineer’s Perspective Yes, I can relate, I've got Pioneer and went back to my Compact. Rambler is great, if you go minimalist, but if you have other multi-tool classic works as well. I used to have the Compact on my keys, but again I always have either Spirit X or lately Leatherman Bond with me. In this case I mostly need the tooth pick, my most used item on a SAK😂 Cheers 👍
The rambler is my favorite also. I wish they made a midnight rambler. I use the toothpick more than the pen. Plus I got the firefly kit where you can trade out the toothpick for a small ferro rod
Nice review and thanks for sharing😊 Tip regarding your comparison with the contents of your pouch where the Midnight Manager came up short an awl: you can use the fixed part of the scissors on the 58mm Victorinox as a light duty awl 😊 Or simply pinch the narrow knife blade btw two fingers and use it as an awl.
Thanks! I honestly haven't tried using those as an awl so I'd be curious about the blades usefulness as one. Gotta preserve the perfect edge on the scissors for the more finicky cutting tasks!
Great video, thanks. You should cut 2 small slits in your pocket sheath to hold a toothpick and tweezers. I replaced my toothpick with the FireFly farro rod in my Handyman SAK. Then I found out I could put a toothpick under the wood saw & metal saw. The toothpick would not fall out of the knife if I opened either one separately but only when opening both together. You could try storing a toothpick under your scissors on the pioneer x. I love SAK'S. I EDC the Midnite Mini Champ, and it is very convenient to grab quickly out from my watch pocket. Also, EDC the Swiss Champ XLT on my belt & the Handyman SAK hanging into my pocket from a lanyard attached to my belt. My Mini Champ pen gets more use than the bigger pen on the Swiss Champ XLT plus scales as it is easily accessible as it is not in a sheath.
Mine has the light as well, which I don't dislike. However, you have to be extremely careful when washing the knife, since it isn't waterproof. If you run it underwater, you may say goodbye to the light.
They’re both great options! I will say that the light is usually just barely enough. So maybe the regular manager is a better choice if you want the pen and don’t need the light

Thanks for another lovely review. Totally love the mini SAKs, very practical tool.
