And for the nutsacks out there posting "WELL ACTUALLY MY KICKSTARTER VERSION HAS A SOLO MODE AND A SCORE TRACK< STOP LYING ABOUT THE GAME".
This is the retail version, i review what they put in front of me. Not whatever extra crap you have and can brag about. I'm not lying about those things not existing, they are just ARE NOT IN THE GAME I REVIEWED. You utter and total planks.

Mosaic is so close to being perfect, but just a few things as mentioned in the video. That one game i played the trader and the person to my right also decided they wanted in on being a trader really sucked. As he always got the manufactory towns and techs just before me, and I had to pivot mid game to a suboptimal strategy. The tyranny of the player playing just before you in an action selection game like this can unravel the fun.

Honestly feel like a deal breaker for me. I know someone who owns it anyway.

Would that problem be fixed if the last player to start a golden age becomes the starting player? Seems like an easy and thematic solution.

@@Nozdormu1982 it has more to do with your position in the que, so instead I would say a golden age rotates the turn order ;)

Othre complains that I have heard are that the tax action is overpowered and that there is some luck in the order that the technologies appear. Did you experience that? I like the presentation of the game but I think I will stick with civ new dawn for now.

Hi there! Thank you for this review, which convinced me going after a used copy on Vinted. Got the standard version (the seller printed the official solo mode and included in the box) for 30 euros circa. Can't wait to play it. Some Italian reviewers defined Mosaic 'terrible' but they even bashed Tapestry. Actually, from your description I found out this is the perfect Civ game for me :) Thank you once again! :)

  • @brownrhythms

I find it mildly interesting how much love this is getting partly based on how quick it plays for a civ game meanwhile for the same weight, arguably quicker, and roughly same BGG rating(7.3/7.7) The Golden Ages felt like it got so little love in retrospect. I bet any lifting of a finger in terms of better production on it, and it would have gotten a lot more love.

So thankful I have the KS edition because having that score track is nice and so far I have only played the game solo. I really, really hope they decide to release a small expansion that includes both in the future for those with the retail edition. The solo game is really enjoyable!

I put the trade tokens in a bag and randomly place them out face up so I do not have to go back and flip them over later. Cuts out a nice chunk of setup time.

    • @3MBG

Yeah, we started doing that too. Still a bit of a chore. Our main way now is have all 4-5 players do it

Great review and lovely to have you back: I hope you're well! Loved the review, just one thing: your comment at the end 'actually better without the minis' I think you say, goes unexplained. If you have a moment, could you elaborate?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  ปีที่แล้ว

The game doesn't need them, and the deluxe version just looks super cluttered and messy on the table. I check out a friends deluxe and I would legit not use the models. And im a model painting guy. They game just doesn't suit it. Oh, and you would need WAY more storage space for all the bits on the table side as well.
I'd like the wonder models, that's about it

Great review. I like Mosaic a lot and it has been a hit with my group. It is an evolution of Forbidden's Raccoon Tycoon / Lizard Wizard in terms of its structure. I like the timing of it and have played around half a dozen games. That makes it more of a classic euro rather than a typical 4x game.
That will be a turn off for some. I think it hits the sweet spot and I like it more than Civ:A New Dawn because it doesn't need the xpac to make it great. That said, all three of the games mentioned are great, for different reasons.

  • @AdamJorgensen

I really regret getting the big box version of this game. The minis desperately need a wash in order for the details to pop and make them usable (Although this is super easy to do with speedpaints. Just spray white and slap on those speedpaints, no need to bother with zenithal or anything).
On the plus side (although a further vote against the deluxe edition), the cardboard quality in this game is excellent so you really won't feel bad playing with the cardboard tokens.
The game itself is pretty fun but I feel like it's probably a bit overhyped. That said, I haven't played it a ton.

We enjoyed our recent first play of MOSAIC, but the set up and final scoring were dampeners on an otherwise fine game.
I do wonder if the set collection will just turn most games into Technology races to make sure you don't miss out on those victory tiles.

My big dislike is the troops, they’re quite terrible when cities also act as Strength in attacks and can’t be removed. Also, I’ve played a game where no empire scoring cards were revealed before game end and thus also make troops doubly terrible.
