Note at 0:14 engine exhaust manifold routed directly adjacent to EPAS aluminum housing. Thermal saturation is primary failure disposition for all Ford EPAS assemblies. Contrary to what is normally assumed to be automotive temperature-grade components; Ford EPAS units are manufactured using non-automotive grade electronics. Ford attempted to bypass this basic design standard by shielding electronics inside aluminum housing. Unfortunately for EPAS owners; Ford engineers greatly underestimated thermal loading, compounded by incredibly poor placement and routing of thermal sources. Result; millions of EPAS units failing across all Ford automotive lines since 2008.

Is this issue more on the rack end with the electric motor, or does the module send a poor constant flow?

Okay I managed to get my steering to work correctly. My problem was very similar to the problem in this video. If you look at my previous comment you will see that my problem was the same. The steering was not completely locked up. The steering rack was already replaced do to a previous all-out failure. Basically the steering was hesitating to turn as you would drive the car. It was kind of like you had to give it a little extra pressure at times to make the steering steer. It gradually became worse and worse to where it started to feel unsafe. One of the tires was damaged due to road debris and was replaced. For both time and money reasons I had to drive for a while with only one new tire on the front. The other tire started getting pretty worn down. I started to look on the internet for the cure for the streering issue but the closest thing I could find was this video. I thought for a minute that perhaps this tire being worn on one side and new on the other side could possibly be causing the problem that I'm having. Because the front end is electronic it does create an unusual feel as described in this video. I'm 54 I've worked on my own cars my whole life. I've never experienced the symptom I was getting. I decided to change the tire. Now with two fairly new tires on the front the problem actually went away. The steering system is making a scraping sound that I need to look into. But currently the steering is working well with the two new tires despite the scraping sound. I get extremely frustrated when I can't find an answer to the problem. So I hope this post that I'm doing to this video can help some other people that might be in the same situation.

My wheel liner came off in a crazy freak road incident, when the liner came off it unplugged what I believe to be the advancetrak censor. Now I have the abs light the slippery signal on. I have the wire plug in hanging by the tire. Can someone tell me where I can find to plug this back in. The wheel liners are off which I plan to fix as soon as I get the plug back in. Any help appreciated.

I bought a 2012 Ford Fusion Se identical to this one. Last night, my display said "power steering assist fault" when I started it. The steering wheel was locked up. I shut it off & restarted it & it was back to normal. Three Ford dealerships & Ford Manufacturing told me they have to diagnose it but it has to say the same thing on my display as it did last night. Sad thing is, I'm close to 150,000 miles, the mileage when the extended warranty runs out.
Edit: My steering went out a few days after posting this. Ford did cover it due to the recall. My car was in the shop 3 days & back on the road. However, yesterday, July 11, 2018, it went out AGAIN & is back at the same dealership who fixed it last time. I'm still waiting for the info on that.

@@bethblakely2931 - The steering ended up going completely out on me after my post & I took it to a Ford dealership. It was there for 4 days. Ford covered the repairs. Exactly 2 months after the they supposedly fixed it, it happened again. Both times I was driving. I had to have it towed to the same dealership. Ford covered the repairs again but this time, they kept the car for nearly 2 months. This has caused me to get behind on everything & I am still trying to play catch up on all my bills.

Got a power steering fault. My mechanic was in touch with Ford. Ford was aware of this problem and gave those Ford owners warranty coverage up to 150,000 miles.

I have had the problem with the steering rack completely and I paid about $1,600 to have it replaced. It wasn't with my Ford dealer it was with my local mechanic that I trust. Unfortunately just recently like about 5 months after the steering system was replaced I'm having a similar problem. Although it is not completely failing this time it is failing in the same manner that you are showing in this video. I would like to know what part 2 of this video is called so I can see what you did to fix it. although it is not failing completely the best way I could describe it is the steering is sort of choppy. It's like the power assist is constantly going off and on very intermittently

I would also like to add that that worn tire was very worn. The we're on the one tire was visibly noticeable it probably would have not passed the penny test at all.

I took it to the dealership and they had it for a week it stopped doing it for a while I took it to the dealership and they had it for a week it stopped doing it for a while but then it started doing it again

fuel pump wires melted away and destroyed connector during winter. left me stuck and freezing.
no heator a/c. wiring melted and destroyed connector. i connected the power wires only and bypassed the difuser. so it blows at its highest setting. it was winter with baby in car.
now power steering failure. while in the drive thru of a mcdonalds.
this fucking ford is driving me nuts......
oh and driver side door lock popped off and and now i been sticking a piece of metal in there .
i have to use my left hand to hold lever out. then use right hand to push and pry the lock button to open door.
all problems started 70,000km to current 110km
so annoyed i forgot how fustrating the gas price is.
