  • This is not a world class video but I'm attempting to show you how to gain access to the actuator blend door mechanism to replace the two broken plastic levers that typically fail preventing you from changing HVAC modes between defrost floor vents etc. Lever GM part number 13263335

    Just an FYI for anyone reading this. I just completed this repair today by only taking out the gauge cluster. No other panels needed to be removed. Took about 20 minutes. Hardest part is getting the gears aligned correctly. Take note of the position of the gear when on defrost (the tab that sticks out should be up) and at that point the small gear (that controls the defrost) should be rotated all the way forward.
    Thanks for the video, this was a huge help!

    Thanks for this video! It works! however I want to mention that for my 2011 Chevy Cruze, I finally needed a "calibration" of the door actuator. My friend came with a garage scanner, took 1 minute to complete the calibration. Reason: after replacing the parts (13263335 _ 11$ each), I cycled the different positions, but the gear motor was trying to go farter to complete his cycle, however was not possible. It looks like the small plastic gear were sliding/skipping teeth. The scanner allowed to "recalibrate" the door actuator motor. Thanks again! Cheers. Danny, Quebec, Canada

    Thank you for your help, I just got done doing this,, what a pain in the balls, (but I do love my little cruze I've had for almost ten years) both were shot on my cruze I got the parts and put them both in, and it only was coming out the de frost,(which I was going to settle on) before stuck on just forward vents which is why i had to do this living in the mid west, and was ready to settle with just de frost. so i loosend the big white gear again and got under neath the dash and made sure the bottom small 'white' gear was moving, in conjuction with the new lever, I actually grabbed the lever and moved it up and down several times,,, which it was not, because pieces of the old parts where impeding the lever and the small white gears on the bottom. got all that old stuff all out and it works,, Hope that helps,,

    Just had this exact problem with my 2012 Cruze. Defroster wouldn't work it was stuck on the front air vents. Dealership said 1600$ are you kidding me? I told them no obviously and saw this video. I followed some of the instructions in this video but I just used a long stick to jam the small gear back until the defroster worked again. Took about a half hour. Now the defroster works but it won't switch to the front air vents. Better than spending $1600 bucks.

    Appreciate the video. You showing the different cam settings for the different modes helped a lot. Also FYI, taking the dash all the way out isn’t really all that bad, and you don’t really have to take it all the way out. I just loosened the two bolts on the passenger side and removed the two bolts on the drivers side and pulled the dash away from the firewall enough to get in there. Only added maybe 5 minutes to take apart the center console and get it out of the way.

    Yeah...my issue is the other day it was working great, coming out of the front vents only strong. Had switched it to vent and floor, it was hot out so switched it back...well it didn't move to full vent. 11 year old car with 214k miles I ordered OEM actuators, figured I'd replace them since I was in there...also replaced the yellow levers with the updated GM ones, even though they weren't broken(surprisingly)...got all back together, used my scan tool to relearn the actuators...still refuses to come out of the vent only. Pulled the cluster again and watched it...the white tab on the main gear will not go all the way to that black stopper unless I move it manually. It'll get about 3/4 of the way there. I don't know what I did wrong. I've already started to pull things back apart since it's not that hard to do...I turned the car off with it on full vent, so that should be lined up on the main gear...but I'm guessing the actuator isn't because I had to manually move it to full vent. Any ideas? I've worked on cars for 15 plus years but this is driving me nuts. How did you get everything aligned right? Those levers that ride on the gears, I've read that they both have to be in the same channel on the white gear? Even though there's two channels. Where did you have the mode set when you took it apart?

  • @RaptorZX3
    @RaptorZX3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A mechanic i contacted not long ago said it's way too much trouble to do when it's electronically-controlled with those actuators. Fortunately, my Chevy Sonic have a manual blend door, controlled by a wire around a button on the middle of the dash, so he said he could fix that. If the button is broken or something behind, i'll just ask him to move the vent to point at defrost and the pedals and i'll keep it like this from now on.

    Great bit of information. Mine is gone as well and the dealership I went to tried to tell me they might be able to run a scan tool first fix (ha ha) for $135 and this is obviously another bit of extra cash for them! What crooks. Last GM I ever buy. This is a real piece of junk as the engine thermostat is also a plastic piece of crap that you fix regularly.

    @corvetteii This is the best video on the subject I've seen so far, though you didn't mention loosening the actuator so the white gear can slide off far enough to slip in the gear levers. Were you able to at least loosen the upper bolt?
    I'm on attempt #3 to get it right - the top/defrost one is easy but I can't seem to get the bottom one on right. I'm so thankful that you recorded the position of the white gear at different settings so I can use that as a guide.
    Side note - I was a helicopter mechanic in a former life and dealt with some pretty challenging repairs like changing/adjusting the inboard fuel control on a twin engine aircraft. This task rivals anything I've ever encountered 😬

And I agree with you, lining up that lever toward the back was the worst. Just lots of trial and error.

    Hello, great video. I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze that is throwing me this code. B0223 CHEVROLET - Recirculate Position Command 1 Circuit, also B0408 06 Main Temperature Control Circuit Short to Ground or Open. I believe one of them refers to a bad actuator. • @seannykraynak
      @seannykraynak 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same problem. Nothing was wrong with the actuator. The lever was broken at defroster in a way that prevented the actuator from finishing its rotation, that caused the short. The actuator itself is not a junk part. The levers are.

    About how long does this take you? I've seen a few estimates say about 8 hours and that's what the dealership quoted me but I believe they took the entire dash apart to make the job as "easy" as possible. This looks like a decent middle ground, PITA to get in the tight space but saves taking the entire dash apart.

    • @ModernMetal7
      @ModernMetal7  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it took me 2-3 hours but the worst part is trying to get the gears to line up with the cam behind the large white gear. Looking back, I think I could have barely put the white gear on and run the vent through its different cycles in the hopes that the cams would line up on their own. I'm not going to lie, it's really tight up there but the point of the video is to show you that it's very possible to do it yourself from underneath instead of paying hefty dealership fees.

    How did you get the two little plastic pieces to be aligned? I got mine put on and I’m having an issue of the vent not blowing any air. It’s like the little black gear is getting stuck. Doesn’t have enough juice to make the white gear go all the way around for the front vent to work

      That was honestly the hardest part. It was patience and trial & error

    This is what’s wrong with mine. I’m dreading to see how much the dealer will charge. I have large hands and don’t believe mine would leave me any room to see or to do the work in that little space.

      It is pretty difficult to get your hands up there for sure. Such a dumb design with cheap plastic parts.

    I would like someone to help me, and I am willing to pay for the help.
    I have a chevrolet orlando turbo diesel 2.0 2013
    The AC is cold on driver's side and warm on the passenger side. I understood from videos that the blend door actuator is what might be broken.
    Help please!

      I waited until now in the spring to fix and bought this little portable heater that plugs into the cigarette lighter. To keep going in the winters. To see the people watching me peer through the 4” diameter defrosted hole...LOL

    I’m looking at one that gets vent heat/cooling. But when I switch to the windshield defrost it seems like it tried then goes back to the vents.
    Was that your problem?
