From what I can gather of the story, the monster was indeed Lewis. When he asked the nurse out, she rejected him, which he took badly. Some years later, Emily enters the tunnels and runs into Lewis. Either she resembled the nurse, WAS the nurse and didn't recognise him, or Lewis simply latched onto her for being the first human he'd seen in a long time.
It's unclear what happened to Emily in the end. However, when our protagonist arrives, Lewis once again hopes he found someone to keep him company. Unfortunately, this human was no more willing to stick around than Emily. It seems pretty clear Lewis was trying to guard his memories, and once you found the shrine to the person he lost (could be his mother, but far more likely was the nurse), he drags you to the exit because you made him remember and therefore wouldn't be a good companion. But I don't think he really meant harm throughout.
One interesting other thing is that the hospital seemed to admit patients with similar symptoms. It's very likely the hospital was observing patients suspected of having psychic powers. Tumors pressing on the brain can cause interesting side effects, but that patient died before any real observations could be made. The circumstances suggest it wasn't suicide. Lewis's angry outbursts likewise seemed to be important and subduing him (which was the proper response in that situation) resulted in the offending doctor being fired.
And then there's the patient who could see Lewis's rabbit move and who had a habit of hiding things. Somehow, he managed to hide a puzzle piece in a living man's brain, which suggests some form of teleportation ability. This could also explain how and why he stole the X-ray of the very patient he'd hidden the piece inside. He knew about the portal into Lewis's mind (which might have allowed entry into other living minds at that time) and used the X-ray to reveal the safe code in a way that meant he wouldn't be easily caught.
Finally, both the hospital and the nearby treatment plant were quickly abandoned. My bet is it happened on the day they planned that transfer. It resulted in a bit of an uprising and they boarded the patients in the office behind the nurse's station before fleeing the facility. Lewis got out and found his way underground, scaring away the water treatment personnel. After that, he made the tunnels his home, building shrines for his lost love. As for the heart, that might've been a manifestation created by one of the patients that Lewis used to keep people away from the hospital and its portal.
And note the three major areas each correspond to the three keys. The tunnels contained shrines where Lewis could remember the nurse. The water treatment facility quite literally had a giant heart in it blocking the elevator access. And the hospital gave you an actual doorway into Lewis's very soul, showing you what led up to his being admitted into the hospital and likely abandonment by his parents.
it's actually really interesting to see this monster who doesn't want to kill you from the beginning but wants to keep you forever. i'm not sure what's worse, the creature that kills you immediately, in a painful manner (as with most monsters in video games), or a creature that wants you to spend the rest of your life in some dingy tunnel, alive but not really.
i watched the whole video and to be honest, if i block out the psychiatry setting (which i think is a bit overdone and clichéd) this is probably one of my favorite games in a long time.
Reminds me of the movie, Mama, as a kid it was my fave bc of how the older sister pleaded with the ghost explaining they need people and real food to survive.
@@melliethemortician i loved mama! i watched it in the theater when i was a kid. it does remind me of it!
it gives me a little of the mother in barbarian as well. this horrifying but ultimately clearly sad creature.
Thanks for checking out the game!
This was well crafted, and was that the silent hill 3 rabbit? Looked like the sh text as well. Good game❤
@brycestrife5605 thank you! As for the rabbit, it initially did start put as an Easter egg for Robbie the Rabbit. Eventually I made the decision to change his colors to avoid potential legal issues and use the doll more to lean into the Alice in Wonderland themes I was using in that section of the game, which is why you see him by the exit door also.
@@SirOnionKnight Also a nod to "Harvey" perhaps? I thought the mentally ill usually saw pookas, not actual rabbits...
@@SirOnionKnight I've been in love with games since I was 2 in 1990. The way your game moves areas and player interest was great. Keep making games! And that's right, good old robbie.
Living in the tunnels with a monster who wants to keep me forever, and gives me flowers .... hmm,.. yeah, ok then. I could learn to love the mask. :) I really enjoyed this game. Giving a monster a motivation other than mindless killing, is refreshing to see in a game. I love the use of pathos, and the sad mask was a simple but effective way of portraying this. I'm sure the Devs were aiming to illicit some kind of sympathy for Lewis. Its very well done. A monster born of unrequited love, is a sad and rather romantic premise for a game. I really liked this one. Well done Devs, and thanks Chris for a great playthrough and great commentary, as usual.
I think collecting those hearts, got you the exit ending cutscenes. Maybe not collecting them gets you deeper into the pits of hell
Are we sure that post credit scene was the monster letting us go? Between the buzzing of the flies & the fact we were being dragged, makes me think it might not be the good ending it seems to be.
He said "there u are, my love"
CJU: "we can run, we can jump, we can crouch, and we can read!"
Me: "We can dance if we want to!"
It's a big "nope" on the tunnels for me. Likewise, no abandoned hospitals/mental institutions, basements, attics, haunted mansions, or cabins in the woods. I hope to live to a ripe old age without having my face eaten off, my heart/brain/intestines ripped out, or my body used as a puppet by a demonic /alien entity. _Or_ having to "marry" Lewis. 😂

@@robbyjay8119 👍😊
And creepy sewers?
I think my true fear would be living at 90.
@@dumpsterProductions Absolutely!! 😅
3:45 I love that he turned around the corner reeeaaal slow and then had to run off like crazy on his tip toes to disappear like that
I think you must have found all the missing hearts and that’s why you got the extra ending with him showing you the exit
I have to say, despite the tasks being weird, they seemed to flow in a positively concise manner! I've been binging on some of the older videos, and its really easy to just dump tasks onto the player without feeling like there's a logical progress to them, but this had a nice balance of tasks and context info (even if the stuff was surreal).
The scene with the mask falling and you realizing you haven't been looking up was great! Even if it unfortunately didn't lead to actual scares, it was a memorable 'oh fuuuuu--' situation and will keep the player on their toes for a good while.
Perhaps he loved someone, who eventually left him because he was obsessed with her? And now he's been trying to replace her?
"These pipes seem to be pumping blood into it to keep it alive." - bro found an inverted heart obviously 😆
Hold on, there was a hole near the heart that had a LOT of boards over it to get across. They didn't look nailed down. So, why didn't the character think to just grab two of those boards and go back the way he came?
Idk if you saw but you're picture is in "The Renovator: origin" !! It was so cool to see it
Non expected approach to the genre. This is actually one of the most interestings plots. Of course some of the locations seemed a bit tedious but overall it was fun to watch.
0:32 I think the “play” button is terrified… it’s shaking nonstop 😂
This was a surprising and fun experience!
Chris you should do a series on Pathologic, please!!
Each one of those candle clusters made from human fat....
That's why there's so many!!
[38:41] This puzzle is old. It came from the firts Silent Hill. In Alchemilla Hospital, yes. The numbers of limbs is the same in the corresponding numpad. Cool, I wasn't expect revitalizing this kind puzzle.
Of all the things in this game, the heart monitor with a heartbeat was the most disturbing!
I loved it aside from the abrupt ending.
You're lucky the monster can't seem to see your lantern's light from inside the lockers...
This was really good! An indie horror game gem.
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, CJU!
When I saw the game showed up while your video was going on I was getting (spirited Away) vibes for some particular reason.
Interesting, though kinda confusing. I liked that you found a real notebook because everytime I see notes all over the place in horror game, I wonder where they found a notebook and pen, and why do they put them in random places 😂 I know it's to provide some background explanation for the plot or give you hints, but it's always funny to me. Like the protagonist supposedly planning to go somewhere at night but not having a flashlight. Ending was very abrupt, so many things were left unexplained. Maybe there will be a sequel?
‘Four candles’… if you know… you’re old 😂
love this kind of game. Keep it CJU
Really enjoyed this one, thanks Chris 💗👍🏼
An interesting premise with potentially good lore. A good watch overall. Thanks for the interesting vid, Chris.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention the developers who made "Reveil" are making a new game called "Shift87"
Hope you play it CJU!!! 💯💪
It'll be coming out in a few days
This was a good one!!! Thanks for playing cj!!!
12:04 writing on the right wall... what did it say?!?!
Good eye! Didn't even notice because Chris looked away
I saw that too. Was hoping he would go back.
Let's go CJU!!! 😤💯💪
Reminding me of the slide in the woods game. Especially at the room with the heart.
Now I wonder if collecting all those hearts had influenced the ending or if it was just something extra.
didn't open a few lockers, could have been a heart in them.
42:54 Yeah...sauce less spaghetti would be upsetting. at least it is better than white rice.
did the hearts serve a purpose? do they effect the ending? or maybe just for an achievement
That was great - really enjoyed it!☺️❤😍
This is actually a decent game. That dummy gave me a jump scare 😂 awesome video btw !
love that CRT effect
There's low-res with ordered dithering but a typical CRT effect is not to be seen.
No tunnel exploration for me, Chris. That was a fun playthrough.
Loving the videos 😊
Thanks for sharing! ❤
Not bad, very strange. So apparently unrequited love turns you into a paranormal monster that can jump into different realms?
A big strong monster in need of love? I might not need much convincing to stay in those tunnels forever ... :P
Jokes aside, that got crazy tense, crazy fast, really cool game owo
So we started with Lost in Vivo and ended up in a cassette from In Sound Mind?
May I just say that the chemical you were pronouncing is pronounced "Mih-Daz-O-Lam". It's a Benzodiazepine used for anxiety, sleeping disorders & sedation in general.
That was a strange game I still enjoyed it
7:36 me whenever I am away from home 😅
14:28 had my toes crinkled till they hurt 👀
your channel is underrated
No child should ever have to endure sauceless spaghetti.
The "monster" is just a shy guy
Omg a Dorian pfp?! 😮
I really like your shirt!!
Also like scruffy Chris!
"No wonder, You were probably very unhappy with this saucaless spaghetti you were force to eat" - CJU Games LOL
cju exploring tunnels🙂
Ancient Greeks viewed the soul "psuche" as a butterfly.
But Chris I don't want to explore any tunnels!!!! 😢😢
Birthday happy from the Pacific Northwest, CJU!
I figured you would’ve checked out the restrooms first 😊
46:36 Maybe this is what happens when you collect all the hearts?
Lesson one normally the most dangerous people are just lonely and don’t know how to cope with others so they hurt them I think he loved the nurse she rejected him and then she died fell in love with Emily but he lashed out and hurt her then fell in love with the protagonist
Great video. ✌️
Hey CJU, you gotta check out The Renovator Origins. Amazing video as always.
Probably his next long play through. He played the demo awhile back and liked it
@@35PHaaton I sure hope so. I saw his picture in it.
Rabbit? Robbie Rabbit!? I was picking up a hint of Silent Hill
Never been this early
Pretty good game ! Surprising, quite unique, intriguing... Just a bit of a shame about that abrupt ending.
LOL, CJU never dropped the lantern ever since he entered the hospital section. NVM he didn't need it thence.
Surreal, interesting experience.
The other dimension reminded me a little of Zen in the original Half Life.
Hug the left wall...... OwOwOw hot hot hot ! Thanks for playing.
For a moment, I thought we were exiting this game into Minecraft through that portal!
Happy Birthday 🎉 I enjoy watching your videos
Typical and it figures, 29:48 (insurance lapsed due to loss of employment). 😀
Very good cause most of the story line wasn't expected. B
Thank you Chris ❤
This one was really different in a good way.
That lantern quite bright and distracting
Let’s goo!!!
Love indie game!!😊
I really liked this one. The ending was a little disappointing to me, though. I have so many questions, lol. 🙂👍
Hi Chris 👋👋❤❤❤
Midazolam lol
Good game, just that I'm a very very very specific type of person, and will elaborate on the why later.
Yay
38:36 they stole that puzzle from silent hill 1
i really like the style of the game
I liked this one but the ending was pretty meh.
*Those french fries look delicious*
❤❤❤
10 out of 11... i mean 10 ;)
Why does this seem like another backrooms game? Also that limbs puzzle was from silent hill 1.
at 42:00. Fallout 4 vibes.
man that monster 😳😳 sorry, but ill stay with them hahhaha
Chrisssss!!!

27:50 PADU
