    ►About the Game -
    The game Locked Up is a psychological thriller in the first person.
    Average time to complete the game: 120 minutes
    WARNING: Epileptic seizures associated with increased sensitivity to light are Possible. Some people may experience seizures when exposed to flashes of light and flashing images that appear in a video game. People who have not previously experienced such attacks may not be aware of their illness. A reasonable restriction of the game audience is recommended.
    IMPORTANT NOTE: The main focus of the game is on exploring the environment in a closed space, which will change after interacting with it. Rely on your intuition and carefully study the details of the game. Over time, the tension will increase, creating an effect of insanity. The plot is not revealed linearly, almost without notes in the game world.
    This game is not suitable for those who are looking for a dynamic horror with action elements and a fast-paced plot.
    Environment.
    The game takes place in a house where terrible events occurred earlier. You will have to repeatedly wander along the same corridor in order to uncover the causes of insanity and understand who you are. Be patient, and the house will open previously locked doors and show you frightening memories of the past. The narrative of the story is transmitted through the environment in a measured rhythm. Each item tells a story, relying on your imagination.

  • @Riccardo_Mori
    @Riccardo_Mori 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    I've watched the whole video because I enjoy your way of playing and commenting, Chris; but honestly, if I had bought this game, I would have given up after 30 minutes or less. The atmosphere is nice, as are some of the dynamics, but it really feels as if the simple, core idea of the game was bloated and extended as to make it a much longer experience. The back-forth-trigger mechanic (at least for me) gets old soon. Normally, in these circumstances, the story and lore would perhaps keep me interested and engaged, but here, whatever story there is, it's communicated in such a fragmented, cryptic way, that it makes me lose interest quickly. (The "What's going to happen next?" soon becomes a question unrelated to the story, and more like a question about the next trick or jumpscare.) And even if the approach were, "Just immerse yourself in the experience and go with it", well, again, it's not such a compelling experience as to make me want to spend more than an hour with it. I apologise if this doesn't sound like constructive criticism. I really recognise and appreciate the effort behind the game. But it's the kind of experience that ultimately doesn't click with me. Cheers! -Rick

    • @ripper82
      @ripper82 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You just summarized my thoughts on this game perfectly. The tedious gameplay loop was almost entirely unrelated to the story, and the story was too weak to compensate for the tedious gameplay. I mean, let's be honest - Chris was being charitable by only calling out a few tropes, like the rotating crucifix. Despite having probably a hundred "scares", there were maybe 5 or 10 that were *actually* creepy or startling. Plus the story didn't even start coming together until very late in the game, but like you said, there wasn't anything compelling enough to make me want to find out how the story would unfold. Frankly I didn't even expect there to be a story, since everything that happened seemed to be a bunch of random horror game tropes strung together. By the time the bits and pieces of "depression or possession? or possession as allegory for depression?" were finally revealed, I didn't care at all - I just wanted the game to end.

      Agreed. I honestly felt like this was just a mindset away from being a terrible indie horror game. I was reminded of that one where he was in an apartment going through the same kind of gameplay loop (wander around until the thing triggers the next transition), and by the time he even saw things that were supposed to be scary, he was just walking up to them because he knew there was no actual threat. He marked that one as terrible and I feel like this was fundamentally the same. None of this was scary, and the "scares" (being generous) just consisted of walking up to generic models and they'd make loud noises and vanish. The load screens were laughably timed. This one was actually *worse* than some he's marked as terrible to me. I'm surprised he enjoyed it at all let alone as much as he did!

    • @AlexOlinkiewicz
      @AlexOlinkiewicz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MujinClone First this game is $10... As an indie developer myself, I can tell you developers can do a lots of things that can make pre-bought assests look different for your game. Example my first game Frostbite: Deadly Climate game, I used Mixamo characters (the character models that many indie games use) and I used things like Photoshop and set up materail effects in engine to create the icicle effect on them. And currently the game I'm developing I am using assets, but I do edit them if I can to give some difference to them.
      There is nothing wrong with using asset, I used them all the time, but that doesn't mean developers shouldn't try and do things to help make there game stand out from the rest and a lot of these assets come with ways to customine them yet most devs I see just stick to the defualt layouts. Again still nothing wrong at all in using assets, but if devs don't try to make some possible difference with the assets they are given then they are basically make there game blend in within the crowed and that can effects the game from being memerable and can effect sales as well. Example the woods eviroment is an assets that many devs use one being that terrible indie horror Centralia game, and if I share a screenshot from one of the games you bet people couldn't tell which game the screenshot came from, and heck if someone just watch Centralia and just the came accross this game, they could easily mistake this was made by the same devs of Centralia or even think this is the same game and not give it a chance.

    Have to admit parts of it were boring (the wandering back and forth around the halls). PT is good, but it can be taken too far, and gets boring after a bit.
    The sounds were great, visuals not too bad. I'm getting tired of the VHS filter, but in this case it actually seemed kind of necessary, and it wasn't constant, so it didn't break the game.
    Some of the scares were great and the transitions, especially in the beginning, were actually amazing. Definitely not as good as Summer of '58, but still pretty solid, if kind of depressing (no escape).
    I wasn't aware of the Steam Refund policy (even though I've bought games there), so I feel really sorry for the devs, because people are just going to take advantage of that to play a game for free. It sucks, because, well, people suck. Steam should really revisit that policy.

      Poeple suck. Steam should not offer that kind of policy. I have a game or two I could do that with, but they didn't cost very much ($5-$10), so I'm not going to do that. Just doesn't feel right, especially when you have devs like this who are quitting making games because of it.

      @@lokicooper4690 I heard one guy did, and that's a shame. I wish I could refund Xanadu Next because it's broken to where you can't progress, yet that is kept for sale. These people would be better off pirating the game, as all they are doing is giving and taking after you got what you wanted. Probably while leaving a bad review, so more harm than good in comparison. The policy should be case by case basis if the admins weren't busy arguing and banning people over things not related to their job.

    The title should have said "Locked Up | She Won't Let Me Out" . That was a missed early-mid 2000's music reference opportunity that I suspect many of the other adults would have gotten a thorough kick out of also. Akon expected so much more from you, Chris. Ok, maybe he didn't, but i would assume as much if I had been so caught up in uploading videos for people to enjoy that I simply overlooked such an iconic reference in the making. How dare you remain dedicated to creating and uploading play throughs with charming banter in lieu of witty (or not at all witty in this case) Akon references? Its almost as if you forgot the main purpose of your channel. Have you forgotten entirely what you named it and why? Did that process have anything to do with games at all? Dont answer that yet. Or did you name this channel something about the hottest music of the mid to late 2000's? Now answer.....what do you mean you named it CJUgames? How could you say you did so because the main point is uploading game videos as such? I never thought you'd lie to me like this. See? Ill scroll up right now to the name. What does it say? *reads CJUgames as if for the first time*
    YOU JUST CHANGED THAT! You cant fool me! I know the truth, Mr. CJUmakesReferencesToTheHottestMusicOfTheMidToLate2000'sBecauseThatIsWhatReallyMatters.
    I'm on to you!
    Like the video if this bad attempt at humor amused you, or dislike it if you have no soul and don't appreciate Chris regularly uploading, beautiful sunrises, delicious food or your own mother! Take your pick. Do you hate your mother? Maybe its time to like the video then, you filthy animal! Also, call your mom and tell her you love her. Dont be so shameful and skip this. (P.S. anyone who had a horrible mother who didn't treat them right is excused from these equally bad attempts at humor, and you matter. I'm sorry if this brought up bad memories. You deserve so much better than a mother who didn't treat you with love and respect. Didn't want to ignore the reality that some moms arent the best and thus invalidate your pain. I love you just for being you. Take care.)
    The rest of you, tell mom i said hi. Shes a classy lady.
