Please take me back to my time as an 8th grader. January 2015-July 2015, Greatest months I will ever have in my life. I played this mesmerising piece in band. I went to Washington D.C. with my class (and on my birthday too!), and naturally, many more unforgettable memories. This piece makes me feel happier every time I listen to it. Any other trumpet players?
My history of the arts teacher played this for us today. He told us that he played it with his band, and one of the girls he played with died later in the year due to a car accident, so this song is very special to him. Music is powerful in many different ways.
This song is sooooooo beautiful, I like listening to it on a sunrise in a forest garden, or pretend I woke up in the clouds with all different ecosystems from down below and see the sunny sky. Great song!
ayo 7th grade playing this where my clarinets at?🎼 Update: 8th grade now- 1st chair😜 Update 2 (2020): Rising senior now! 2nd chair and trying out for section leader today :)
if you like this, then you should check out Cajun Folk Songs by Frank Ticheli. Its comprised of 2 movements. the first is a slow, with the second picking up the tempo. I hope u enjoy it.
my band played this song last year for contest. THEY DID AMAZING!!!!!! they sounded exactly like this recording! My band teacher is awesome and inspiring. (Trombones are awesome)
Hard to believe it's been 13 years since I've performed this piece! It was one of the first to entrance me with music, I played tympani on this one, and I'm glad I stuck with it!
I first heard this 6 years ago when I was 14 - To this day, I remember it perfectly. This is still the best song I've ever heard within the school's musical library. Robert W. Smith is incredible. This song beautifully showcases all of the instruments in the band. This is a gorgeous and emotionally moving tune.
the way the clarinets came in at the beginning set the stage for the entire song. the only thing I think they could have done better was have the French horns play only at the end chorus. aside from that I think that this song is beautiful and I hope that other people can continue to make songs just like this for the future.
I'm listening to this...played a clarinet, 1st chair, in my band. Brings back a huge amount of memories from the band... I get teary eyed when listening to this.
This song is very, very easy for my level, but at least that insures that I will get the flute solo in my high school's concert band!! This is definitely one of the most beautiful songs we have ever pulled out to sight read! I don't know what it is about playing that flute solo, but it's just so dang pretty and full of passion! Ah!
played this song in 7th grade. took it to a competition in Atlanta, Georgia. we won first place. this song is BEAUTIFUL. an epic beginning and end. beautiful slow section and it emphasises all instruments in the band, especially brass. being a percussionust, I sometimes get a little bit tired of playing songs that are not challenging, I played first snare on this song and it was very fun to play. LOVED playing it and I miss it so much. I loved to see how the band improved on it. BEAUTIFUL
A ponee Aye. I have to agree on that because: 1: I play clarinet 2: This song contains a large amount of clarinet melody. So excited for next year, we're the first band in our school's history to get a UIL Sweepstakes!
LunchIsAwesome well i understand that but us trumpets who played first part, played very high notes. when i first got this i got to play the highest notes i have ever played in a song! plus i had that beautiful solo before the coda! :D
I PLAYED THIS IN 7TH GRADE (last year) AND I SAW IT AND I SCREAMED THE MEMORIES ARE BACK. Sorry. Had to fangirl for a moment. I played this song in 7th grade and now my band is playing Into The Storm and it's just hell but it's awesome
This piece is amazing. All I did was play tambourine and suspended cymbal for it, but I got the privilege of being able to sit back and just listen. He's definitely my favorite composer. And gosh, the woodwinds just absolutely dominate in the middle, don't they?
I play bassoon and this is the very first piece I have ever played where I actually get to play the melody for a few measures and I can't wait to play this it sounds awesome!
One of my favorite pieces I've ever played in band. I actually played this twice: The first time was in middle school, and my high school band director picked it out a few years later and I played it again. I wasn't complaining!
+Eva Granroth I'm a clarinet too! This one of the three songs i have to play for my spring concert (the others being Blue Ridge Saga and Highlights from Harry Potter) :)
I think I played something like crash cymbals and triangle (or tambourine) and I remember counting through all the rests was a nightmare for my 7th grade self... Great song though, one of the few that I remember after so long.
i am so glad my band gets to play this song, and i have the clarinet part in it, it sends chills down my spin every time i listen to it, such an amazing piece!!
right herw brother! this song gives ne so much nostalgia as a freshman first trombone. after that i forgot the name of the piece and composer and i was lost, searching for the piece. i asked my director and he wouldn't tell mw and he finally told me before graduation due to a bet he lost. this song is amazing!!!!
wow, I haven't played this song since I was in the 7th grade 6 years ago, but I love it so much xD thanks for posting! I've played lots of Smith's pieces and this is definitely one of my favorites.
Just played this, Deep River, and Lexington March at the Great East festival. I got the honor of playing the solos in Deep River and Encanto. So proud of our band...we got a 97 out of 100 score.
Wow. Robert W Smith is truly amazing. Today I played string bass in a tri-county band thing in Culpepper, VA and Robert W Smith was our conductor!! i just had to look up his works... he's a chill dude.
I love the solos and the accompaniments of the solos! Its so...so...so...beautiful and majestic! And...Omg,I can use this song for quite a few things....maybe as inspiration for a story...
Ok here's the top three instruments 1. Trombone (everyone knows that :P. Bring the noise! Also its arguably the loudest instrument in the instrument game. Yes, louder than trumpets and tubas) 2. Flute (it was a close one between the two. I only have trombone as #1 cus its what I play, otherwise the flute and trombone are kind of tied) 3. Tuba (powerful and deep, as they always say. Also you can probably kill someone with it, which is why its in 3rd (not a good thing). And its just really big) All the other instruments aren't important enough :P
Screw clarinets (although my mom was one). Trombones all the way baby! Flutes come after cus of my best friend (who happens to be a redhead) plays it. She was first flute along with another flute, while I was first trombone along with one other. All other flutes and trombones had second part :P (sorry Josh Jones :P)
my grade 9 band played this and i had the baritone solo. it was so hight. i also was a treble clef baritone too then i moved to the tuba and have to play for the festival. the baritone solo and the tuba part but i love the song. it is so much fun!!!!!!!
I remember playing this in the District Honors Band of Southern Maine of the Year 2011 or 2012. I was a seventh grade third trumpet. I should have practiced harder. I wanted the solo so bad, but not bad enough, apparently. Not so long ago, but yet, too long to remember the year. It should have meant more, I didn't deserve to be in that group if I can't even remember what year I played only a mere 2 or 3 years later. Sorry... I kinda just offloaded. It felt good though.
I hadn't been in band in years. Out high school band played at a contest and I heard this. This was the song that made me wish I had gone into band, and then I decided no matter what, I was going to be in band. One year later I am now in band and don't regret it one bit.
+Jared Davis oh yea the high F, I played trumpet 5th and 6th, than my 7th grade year I learned French horn and now I'm 8th grade still playing the horn and we have to play this piece
Yea, I know, I used to play flute 2 earlier this year. Just play as loud as the music will allow, that's all I can say. But my band teacher says that the second and third parts are even more important then part one because they're more unique and they're different
we're just now learning this music i think we're playing it for GMEA spring festival...i really like it it's pretty sweet!! i play the 1st clarinet part because i just moved up to 1st chair in band!!!it's a really cool music and it's stuck in my head now!!!!GO MCA BAND i hope we get superior this year!(:
im in 8th grade at Lakeside Middle School in Norwalk, CA, and we are currently learing the rythyms to thiss song! Hope it comess out great for our Disneyland & Knotts concerts!

I'm a trumpet and we played this my eighth grade year. I'm a sophomore now and this song reminds me of the Seniors from that year.
My history of the arts teacher played this for us today. He told us that he played it with his band, and one of the girls he played with died later in the year due to a car accident, so this song is very special to him. Music is powerful in many different ways.
