Played this for an exhibition with the community band that’s near me that played for a high school all county band I was apart of. I played the euphonium solo for this piece. The community band is mostly elderly who want to play again. There was only one other euphonium there and he let me have the honor of playing this piece. I thought because he was there longer he would surely play it because of seniority but, I wound up playing it after only joining the band for a week. I was confused why they let me a younger person who hasn’t been playing for that long in the band play the very important solo . I never found out why but I’m grateful that I got too❤. They’re so very nice to me in this band. After the concert I had to go back to my euphonium section in the all county band. They all wondered who played the euphonium solo in this piece so well. I told them that I played it and their reactions were the best! Those were great times.🥰
I played the Baritone solo in the very beginning and middle of this song for my high school band/choir concert and was told to pick the speed and tempo and play. I also had two other solos that night in two other songs we played before my final solo in the choir part of the concert! This has been, and always will be, my favorite high school memory and I cherish it and this song because of that night! Thank you Mr. Robert Smith for making such an amazing song And thank you Grand Performer for uploading this wonderful piece of music for me to listen to again! Sincerely, thank you!
My band director was in close connection with Robert w smith. He came in one day and gave us this piece. I played the solo for euphonium in the beginning. RIP Robert W Smith, I will never forget the time I got to meet you and shake your hand.
RIP Robert W. Smith. The world has lost an amazing composer for band. I conducted this piece my very first year of being a band director

Similar story for me, his wife visited our school so we could play this song for her.
I play tuba and me and my friend are fighting bc we both want the solo and it’s made it so we’re becoming less of friends if that makes sense so ya
as a tuba player, understandable
Playing this as a clarinet is really hard.
