0:00 The calm before the battle. The russians are ready for a battle and the german army is approaching. 0:58 The huge german army has arrived and is preparing for a war 1:47 The german army is ready to charge and the russian army is ready to defend 2:19 The german army advances and immediately begin to fight the russians 3:04 The german army pushes past the first line of russian defenders 3:25 The Luftwaffe begins bombing the russian army 3:42 The red army goes on the counteroffensive and catches the germans by surprise The piece ends with the soviets successfully defending their captial and holding back the germans. Love this piece and it got me first chair clarinet with a perfect score
+Josh Morales Well, the song was written about the battle of Moscow in 1941, where the Nazi forces invaded Soviet Russia, so it really was Stalin v. Hitler.
Percussion - bass drum for this song. Part of the audience of 8th graders that were at the band festival jumped when I swung at full force - it was amazing. BOOM. The sound resonated so much the air vibrated. (This is a concert bass drum - HUGE).
The guy who played on the bass drum in my school was amazing for this piece. It was meant to represent bombs going off, and he scared everyone in the auditorium when he hit it!
HyruArtz lol yeah Even tho im not Junior High Syphonic Band but I do play a French Horn and got 5th chair. Region Band Solos- 2nd chair junior concert band😢😢😢😭😭I suck
Ayyy gonna be playing bass drum percussionists y'all here?? bass is so fun during this song I always slam it so hard and my teacher really gets into it haha performance is tomorrow!!!
I had to audition and out of 60 other people only 8 were chosen and I was one! placing 1st chair! I'm so happy haha I really don't want to brag a lot it's just my family thinks band is boring and my mom likes it but idk... I just don't want to feel like my hours of practicing was for nothing
Kall_me_ KOUHAI that's really impressive congrats on the placement!! We have a really small band but the people are really competitive. So I can tell you irked really hard!
Lex Bauer Omg thank you! >< yes it was hard I practiced during lunch, after school, before school and whenever I had a free class but it was worth it. I'm sure you're a good player too!
I play Timpani for the song. We just recently had a preformance for this too actually! I even get to hit the Timpani really hard. Just like the bass drum.
Dizzy Cat #McHanzo Ah yeah i played the bass right next to the timpani. that part is so cool. Our timpani player struggles a bit so do you think the part was hard?
i loved doing this piece for my 7th grade band class and got to perform it for a bunch of judges it has an amazing dark but light contrast and its amazing
I like how there's all these people in the comment here that are just like "AYYYYEE WHERE MA TRUMPETS AND SAX BOOOOI???!!!!" and I'm just here like " *;-;* where's ma *clarinets* in da haus....?"
In 9th grade now, still come back to this played trumpet, flute, and French horn.sadly I dont play anymore but easily the best years were in middle school.
My band goes through three guys on chimes. One kid plays the beginning and the other slow part after the first real part. At 85 this other kid plays the siren on the chimes THAT WERE LEFT OUT ON THIS RECORDING and I play 95 to the end. AGAIN LEFT OUT. I play that, bells, and a mini marimba riff at 64. The sirens guy plays bells, and the guy who plays the beginning does nothing else. Havoc, but its so satisfying to have all that going. Concert tomorrow BOYZ
Lol, I played 1st clarinet too, and me and my stand buddy used to joke that when we failed at that part, we were "falling down the stairs" because of how the notes look like stairs.
i play 1st clarinet too and i always get so lost at measure 95 😂😂 sometimes i wish i could play 2nd clarinet, but then i remember i’m first chair 1st clarinet sooo 😂
Euphonium's represent. I loved playing this song in Eighth Grade. It was so fun and sounded so cool. My only complaint was my proximity to the Bass Drum when stuff really picks up, it was shocking to say the least.
I'm playing this this year in 8th grade band. I'm 1st Alto Sax, there are only two, and this is my moment to shine since the other Alto is Second Part: 3:17
Played this in high school... trombone player for 8 years... this song gave me nightmares for many weeks after concert contest. So much fun but man, myself and my other trombonists blew out our lips in the last minute EVERY TIME!
My school did this song for its concert, but the drummers got somewhere either to far ahead, or too far behind, and the loudest tenors in the section got off as well. One started following the other's lead, little did they know that the other guy was following his lead, and they just kept playing things at the wrong time. For once, I knew what I was doing, but I was still too nervous to try to play the correct notes louder than them. The alto section was in front of us, and this one jerk in the section kept blaming all of us. I really have to hand it to those two, for messing up as loudly and proudly as they could, even though we all would be much better off if they just stopped playing when they got confused.
I’m such a looser, but we played this for concert once and I literally listen to this when I’m bored, I played flute and oh my gosh I loved my part it was so much fun
Guys- I am first chair in my band (clarinet speaking) and I CANNOT stand when the other ones mess up- *hem hem* the trumpets in our band SUCK they sound like dying ducks *hem hem*
Janissa Acosta I'm in percussion and one of the best musicians in the band and if one person messes up our teacher spends like 20 minutes teaching the whole section and it gets annoying
I love this artist Brian Balmages all his music really brings power to a certain section for example this song was really bringing out that trumpet lowbrass. and if you ever heard electricity that one is really powerful in the woodwinds low woodwinds and great lowbrass
I remember when I played this 2 years ago, I’m a trumpet and this is the first I went back to hear this song since our state assessment (got 1st place cause of this song btw) and u couldn’t stop getting chills cause honestly this will probably be the best peace I will ever play
I am more than happy that Brian Balmages released this beautiful masterpiece, playing this song was truly fun and I enjoyed and so did the rest of my band mates I wish all of you that are playing this wonderful song good luck and I hope you enjoy it as much I did. Shout-out to my og trombone players
Played this in 6th grade. The 7th and 8th grade band had 2 flutes in all, and I was the only other flute lmao so I got to play with them! I'm glad I did cause this song is great
We played this song in my concert band recently and it was such an amazing piece to play. So much emotion! I got goosebumps occasionally when playing. I'm a flutist btw.
Bass clarinet player as well. Atleast I used to. I'm really thinking about getting a bass clarinet because I miss songs like these back in school. The hard part is finding one that is relatively cheap. Most I see are in the thousands range
One of my favorites in band. The second half always gives me a rush. The basoons always made it sound like German plans flying over Starlingrad which really gave it a WW2 feel.
This has to be my favorite band arrangement ever, just the flows and tempo changes are just amazing, we played this my 6th grade year and it was phenomenal, i mean from a trombone's perspective
Played this in 8th grade, easily my fav song we've played in band, mostly because the Timpani part was SUPER fun to play
Robyn Doney Percussion... We totally don't get enough props but this song would not be what it is without us...
The song wouldn't work without brass wood winds and of course you percussion.
Robyn Doney I know right?! Timpani was sooo fun to play and percussion is great
Percussion for the win snare drum for life
I got to play the timpani on this and it was SOO MUCH FUN
0:00 The calm before the battle. The russians are ready for a battle and the german army is approaching.
0:58 The huge german army has arrived and is preparing for a war
1:47 The german army is ready to charge and the russian army is ready to defend
2:19 The german army advances and immediately begin to fight the russians
3:04 The german army pushes past the first line of russian defenders
3:25 The Luftwaffe begins bombing the russian army
3:42 The red army goes on the counteroffensive and catches the germans by surprise
The piece ends with the soviets successfully defending their captial and holding back the germans.
Love this piece and it got me first chair clarinet with a perfect score
love that. used it to help me write a fricking narrative
Thank you
Dude freaking love history and music, thank you for combining it for me :)
Max Lu *Red Army
What Luftwaffe?
sounds a lot more violent when my band plays it. its probably because we're just awful
honestly same... we can't hit those *HIGH* clarinet notes so we just ruin people's ears. and our poor trumpets are.. let's say not the best..
XD
Our band is awesome. We had William Owens come in and he said we were doing so well he is coming to our UIL. Just to listen to us.
Omg same my old band was so much better than my new one

I imagine this like Stalin vs Hitler. Pretty damn epic if you ask me.

+Josh Morales Well, the song was written about the battle of Moscow in 1941, where the Nazi forces invaded Soviet Russia, so it really was Stalin v. Hitler.
Instantly starts thinking about Animal Farm
YaMaster FPV same bro
Mathew Kozlowski 2 socialists fighting each other lol...
The victory part at 3:42 was always so fun to play. The whole piece was fun, but that part in particular always made me feel excited when I played it
Percussion - bass drum for this song.

I like how there's all these people in the comment here that are just like "AYYYYEE WHERE MA TRUMPETS AND SAX BOOOOI???!!!!" and I'm just here like " *;-;* where's ma *clarinets* in da haus....?"

Ahhh. I remember playing this back in middle school. This song still gets to me. I love it so much!!
Trombones... The most underestimated instrument in a concert setting rip
i know Right
so true
Terraria fans that play trombone ... I've found my brother
Be_rice 23 nah,f horn is most underestimated
We spent 35 out of 45 minutes on one of my band classes just on helping the trombones with four measures.
I'd say you're rated just fine
My band goes through three guys on chimes. One kid plays the beginning and the other slow part after the first real part. At 85 this other kid plays the siren on the chimes THAT WERE LEFT OUT ON THIS RECORDING and I play 95 to the end. AGAIN LEFT OUT. I play that, bells, and a mini marimba riff at 64. The sirens guy plays bells, and the guy who plays the beginning does nothing else. Havoc, but its so satisfying to have all that going. Concert tomorrow BOYZ
3:41 - 4:08 I play 1st clarinet and I was dying to breathe at this part 😂 played it in my concert last night
Lol, I played 1st clarinet too, and me and my stand buddy used to joke that when we failed at that part, we were "falling down the stairs" because of how the notes look like stairs.
i play 1st clarinet too and i always get so lost at measure 95 😂😂 sometimes i wish i could play 2nd clarinet, but then i remember i’m first chair 1st clarinet sooo 😂
i get that i’m literally dying at this part!
LMFAOO
Euphonium's represent. I loved playing this song in Eighth Grade. It was so fun and sounded so cool. My only complaint was my proximity to the Bass Drum when stuff really picks up, it was shocking to say the least.
The bass drum is the death of baritones, trombones(me) and tubas in this song... So loud! I was right in front of it...
as a fellow euphonium player, i understand your pain, the bass drum was really painful
Finally clarinets get a good role. Been waiting a long time for a song like this
clarinets sound great!! I love the percussion at the beginning.
I play bassoon! I'm really excited for the concert!
OH MY GOSH!!! IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL! I can't wait to play this for a concert this year! Go Horns!!!!
YEAH!!! LET'S GO!
I'm playing this this year in 8th grade band. I'm 1st Alto Sax, there are only two, and this is my moment to shine since the other Alto is Second Part: 3:17

I'm not a band Geek im a History nerd and I'm here to tell you all that this a Version of a Soviet song called Polyushko-Polye that was wrote in 1933
Still remember that opening part by clarinet! In 2008
Trumpet 1, and some parts do get quite intense with the trombones backing along side us. All I can say is the end stretch.
Truee Im a trombone and me and my friend we flare soo loud I think we honestly hurt the trumpets ears and i played trombone 1
I played this for LGPE very recently! I enjoyed the nostalgia. Thanks for posting this!
It's fun to listen out for your part of this song. I played 1st trombone.
7th grade percussionist anyone else? Playing this song
We're playing this for my middle schools band, hope it goes well
Did you guys know that this song was inspired by a Russian folk song called “Polyushka Polye.” If you like this song you’d love that one.
Matthew Timm thx
I'm doing this song for band. I play percussion. 😊😊😊 Playing tambourine, claves and some other "undecided instruments."
Megstar360 Gasp percussion! I'm playing the chimes, bells, and probably something else (I'd need to check my music)
I was really disappointed though. We all changed instruments and I ended up on snare. Not the easiest piece to play on that.
Megstar360 I played the same set of percussion instruments too. Claves was so fun to play
Played this in high school... trombone player for 8 years... this song gave me nightmares for many weeks after concert contest. So much fun but man, myself and my other trombonists blew out our lips in the last minute EVERY TIME!
You can feel the heart of every soviet comrade lost that day!
Jake Smith all I see is reznov 😂
BOYS THE BOMB AT 0:59 IS AMAZING, IN BAND IT GAVE ME CHILLS EVERYTIME
