Everyone knows that Barry Gibbs like opinions when putting together the best takes. His brothers always said “he is a perfectionist. If it isn’t perfect, he doesn't want to do it.”.
The finished article of this gig was brilliant, I don't ever recall it being released as a single. I am so surprised to see Roy was smoking and actually was a smoker, such a superb singer and a smoker to boot omg. He left us all too soon.
In an age of anti-smoking, seems kind of odd to see someone smoking in a studio, especially someone like Roy Orbison whilst working with other professionals
Roy Orbison was a heavy smoker smoked 80 a day until 1977 at age 41 (triple bypass surgery) he then went down to 20 a day what a fool he was and as if that werent enough he was yoyo dieting when not on tour he would eat unhealthy food and then starve himself when going on tour only 52 years old R.I.P. 1936-1988
I'm not even sure if the Everly brothers both sang at the same time durning a recording. I've been in studio enough to know how one singer does their track then the second one studies their timing and then their sound level is set to be compatable with the first voice on a different track. This saves studio time which is money. Nice for us to watch but don't fall for this show as being real.
@@edithpiwowarski4704 Not legally blind, but very shortsighted. He left his clear glasses on the plane and wore his dark glasses and they became his trademark.
Hard to believe Roys voice was that good with the smoking. He should've at least respected the other singers enough to wait. They may not have minded but 2nd hand smoke is harmful too. Surprised they weren't choking.

@@hvafaenskaljeghete1800 true :/ but sadly most celebs have unhealthy habits or adictions (like other people have as well) I mean... most folks took pills back then to sleep or to work better , smoke, do drugs. Look at Elvis - took so many pills and overworked till his body couldn't take it anymore.

Hey Roy fans. Even the big O had to rehearse. A cough, a puff, a sip of colo. Roy "Im ready to record now". Only Roy. Bless his soul.
I've adored Roy since I was 13. I'm now 72 and still think he's the best !!!
Me from the age of 11 and I am 73 and l agree with you he’s the best.
@@marymanning5150he was second to none. Simply the best. He was so gentle and sweet too.

Roy was THE BEST. He had such a God given talent. I adore his songs.
I was waiting for Roy to hit that NOTE! Out of all of the singers, Larry is the only one who comes close to Roy's voice!
They sound alike on the lower register.
I didn’t realize how close Larry sounded like him till now
And Barry Gibb probably wrote this with his brothers I bet so.
@@Doug.-ce5uyBarry wrote it with Larry!
And Roy smokin’ as he’s smokin’ he’s too much amazin’

Should we call this a time machine? it was nearly 40 years ago!
Two West Texas legends. Midland and Wink.
I caught Larry making an Aggie comment.

as good as Larry is-you cant touch Roy!

I can't speak for the Gatlins but Barry Gibb was a longtime smoker, not sure if he still does but definitely did at this point.
@@rolsson5464 no Barry stoped in the early 90s

Roy with his smoke and coke
Most artist do smoke, take QUEEN, they all smoked, doesn’t seem to bother them, maybe later in life..

I thought Roy was blind but he was reading the Lyrics
Legally blind, not total, font know how much they see,,

He was not blind, just had poor eyesight.
BUT smoking? He was a beautiful talent, a singer and he's puffing on cigs? WOW, that's what probably cost him his life.
That was not an easy song to sing..

If only he paid attention to his body screaming at him to take better care of himself. Sigh.
It was 1988.Would you ask Roy to put out his cigarette? You’d be asked to leave.
